Dortmund vs Tottenham - Champions League Preview

Dortmund vs Tottenham – Champions League Preview – Tottenham can all but confirm top spot in Group H with a win in Germany against Borussia Dortmund.

After taking four points from Real Madrid in their last two games, Spurs have put themselves in pole position. Their 3-1 victory over the reigning European Champions last time out sealed their place in the last 16 of the competition and now they’ll be hoping to finish the job.

Kane could be on the bench after coming off in the loss to Arsenal on the weekend Photo Credit: skysports.com

At the weekend Tottenham suffered only their third defeat of the season as they crashed to a 2-0 loss in the North London derby. With Spurs now licking their wounds it will be interesting to see how they react against Dortmund. Despite being announced fit against Arsenal, Harry Kane looked like a man carrying an injury. Kane missed both of England’s two friendly games the week before and I fear he may have been rushed back too soon. With that in mind, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was to start on the bench in Germany, to aid his recovery.

Dortmund still have a slim chance of qualifying for the knock out rounds. If Real Madrid lose to Apoel on Tuesday and they beat Tottenham, it would leave Dortmund with the chance to go through by beating Madrid in their last group game. This is obviously highly unlikely, but it gives something for Dortmund to play for.

Peter Bosz’s side are in poor form and lost again at the weekend to Stuttgart. That result means they haven’t won in the league since September. They’ve also only recorded one win in that time in all competitions, and that was in the DFB Cup against lower opposition. As a result of their poor form, Dortmund are already nine points behind league leaders Bayern Munich and look set for a sixth straight year without a league title.

Aubameyang could return after being left out on the weekend loss to Stuttgart Photo Credit: skysports.com

Despite their poor form, this is still a team more than capable of scoring goals. It is yet to be seen as to whether star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be reinstated to the squad after being suspended last time out. The Gabon international grabbed himself 42 goals last season and already has another 15 this term.

The last time these two met, Tottenham recorded their first ever win against Dortmund with a 3-1 victory at Wembley. Their only two previous meetings came in the Europa League in 2016, where Dortmund won both games. With that in mind, I think BTTS and over 2.5 goals is a safe bet, with both sides carrying a significant attacking threat.

Prediction: Dortmund 1-2 Spurs

SKYBET: CORRECT SCORE 2-1 SPURS- 10/1

SKYBET: BTTS AND OVER 2.5 GOALS- 5/6

SKYBET: ALLI TO SCORE FIRST AND DRAW 2-2- 70/1

SKYBET: AUBAMEYANG AND KANE TO BOTH SCORE- 11/4

SKYBET: BTTS AND DORTMUND TO WIN- 2/1

SKYBET: BTTS IN BOTH HALVES- 10/1

Managerial Casualties - Who is next to go?

Managerial Casualties – The 2017-2018 FA Premier League season has already seen plenty of manager’s sacked due to bad performances or issues with the board. As of today, West Bromwich Albion have parted ways with Tony Pulis, who had been in charge of the Baggies since January 2015. After an unconvincing start and laboured football, the Welshman has been sacked.

The first casualty in the Premier League was Frank de Boer, who took charge of Crystal Palace for only 77 days. The Dutchman was not able to capture his Ajax form and transfer it to the London club. With no points or goals in the first 4 games, de Boer was sacked. Former England manager, Roy Hodgson has taken charge since.

Craig Shakespeare, who took over the sacked Claudio Ranieri at Leicester back in February 2017, was the next to go after 236 days in charge. Shakespeare led the Foxes to a Champions League Quarter Final last season but was sacked after just 8 games into the new season. Former Southampton boss, Claude Puel now manages Leicester.

Another Dutchman to part ways with their club was Ronald Koeman from Everton. Koeman left Southampton to take over Everton and was given a huge transfer budget in which he spent over £150 million, including signing Swansea midfielder, Gylfi Sigurdsson, for £45 million. Koeman was in charge of the merseyside club for 496 days. David Unsworth is currently in charge of Everton whilst they decide on their new manager.

Slaven Bilic was at West Ham for 881 days and had a tough time at West Ham. Leaving Upton Park to move to the Olympic Stadium caused the team issues due to the size of the pitch and though Bilic was able to strengthen the team with signings such as Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, the team were unable to gel together and look to be plummeting even after the Croat’s departure. Former Sunderland manager, David Moyes, is now in charge at West Ham.

Here is our selection of managers that we believe could be next in line to face the chop:

Paul Clement – Swansea City

Paul Clement Photo Credit: skysports.com

Swansea have struggled to make an impact under Paul Clement. The Swans have only won 2 league games and have conceded double the amount of goals they have scored. A loss last weekend to Burnley has mounted more pressure on Clement as the Swans sit second from bottom with 8 points.

3/1 – Skybet

Mark Hughes – Stoke City

Mark Hughes Photo Credit: skysports.com

Stoke City have been consistent in the Premier League but have not given the fans anything to shout about. Though always tough to play against, the Potter’s have only managed 3 wins so far this season, with goals being a huge problem to come by. 12 points from 13 league games sees Stoke in 15th place and if Hughes is not able to get better performances then he could be departing the Bet365 Stadium.

12/1 – Skybet

Mauricio Pellegrino – Southampton

Mauricio Pellegrino Photo Credit: skysports.com

Pellegrino came in as Southampton manager with pretty much the same team that Claude Puel had and the reason behind Puel’s sacking was down to the not scoring enough goals, entertaining the fans and rumours of dispute with players. Pellegrino could potentially be facing the same song as his side have only managed 9 goals in 12 league games and another side conceding more than scoring, even with the likes of Virgil van Djik and Cedric Soares in the defence. Hopefully he will get more time but must get the Saints to start performing with the talent in the team.

12/1 – Skybet

Antonio Conte – Chelsea

Antonio Conte Photo Credit: skysports.com

A strange one for many but since the Italian led the Blues to Premier League victory last season, Conte has not looked happy and this could be down to personnel and  problems with the owner, Roman Abramovich. Conte wouldn’t be the first Chelsea manager to have clashed with the Russian Billionaire, as Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti found out during their time in London. Issues with striker Diego Costa and the sale of Nemanja Matic to title rivals Manchester United clearly took a toll on the Italian and his side have not begun as they did last season. Furthermore, centre back, David Luiz had been dropped signalling more problems.

Not the worst start by any means, as Chelsea sit in 3rd, though a huge 9 points off leaders, Manchester City, but, a trophy less season could see the Italian move on, or even see him resign. The likelihood of Conte leaving would make more sense in the summer, rather than any time soon.

Brighton vs Stoke City - Match Preview

Brighton vs Stoke City – Match Preview – Brighton are looking to continue their excellent start to life in the Premier League when they host a struggling Stoke side at the Amex Stadium.

After finishing as runners-up in the Championship last season, Chris Hughton has led his Brighton team superbly in their maiden Premier League campaign. The Seagulls are in 9th with four wins and three draws from their opening 11 matches, with Glenn Murray to thank for half, with the veteran forward scoring in his last three games.

It is no surprise Hughton has made Brighton so defensively sound, and it is truly the foundation of which they are set up on. Only both Manchester clubs, Tottenham Hotspur and the similarly impressive Burnley have conceded less goals than Brighton’s 11 this term.

Murray and Brighton have had a good season so far, currently 9th in the league Photo Credit: skysports.com

Competing and competing effectively with the stature and money of other clubs in this division is an almighty task and Albion deserve every admiration for doing so. Although it is still early to call, the struggles of other clubs such as Crystal Palace and Swansea City should see Brighton over the line in obtaining their goal of Premier League safety.

Testament to this, is the fact Brighton could match their best ever top-flight unbeaten record of five games by avoiding defeat here.

Despite there being only three points between the teams at the start of play, the mood is very different at Stoke City. Fans are becoming frustrated with the sides’ inconsistency – a trait not normally associated with The Potters. Mark Hughes has been under some pressure as questions upon the team’s long-term future are increasingly pondered.

Crouch could start and play an important role for the Potters Photo Credit: skysports.com

Whilst there seems to be a large amount of talent in the squad (Xherdan Shaqiri, Kurt Zouma, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting) and the ability to beat anyone on their day (beating Arsenal 1-0 in September for instance), Stoke have never been able to string a run of decent results together and consequently find themselves forever looking down the table instead of onwards and upwards. Goalkeeper Jack Butland has been ruled out for the game due to a broken finger whilst with England but forward Peter Crouch has supplied some goals for Stoke and could be in the running to start.

Hughes will always argue that the finer margins can and do affect Stoke regularly and had certain decisions been made or chances been taken then the outlook would be completely different. The Potters are very unlikely to be dragged into a relegation battle, but the feeling is that more should be achieved.

After beating Watford at Vicarage Road last time out, Stoke could claim their first consecutive away victories in the league for the first time since October 2015.

Stoke have won their last eight games in a row against The Seagulls, keeping five clean sheets in the process. Another win at Brighton here would take Stoke into the top half and would go a long way to dismissing those questions asked – at least for the time being.

Horse Racing Preview - Leicester - 20th November 2017

Today’s horse racing selection comes from Leicester, with one selection from the meeting.

15.20 Leicester – Castle Conditional Jockey’s Handicap Chase (15.5f)

Fair Frank : (106)
Rakaia Rosa : (104)
Mr Jim (101)

David Bridgwater’s Fair Frank still looks one step ahead of his current mark when winning on his chase debut at Southwell three weeks ago, despite getting 6lb from the winner when making all under Alan Crawley, this time around Mitchell Bastyan rides him for the first time, however the young conditional jockey is already making a name for himself with being linked to top stables.

Mr Jim is probably his nearest adversary here, 1-5 around the chase circuit he ran well to finish runner up to 102 rated Bertie Lugg at Towcester over 21.5f, he has failed to shine over this shorter trip and despite the 7lb he receive from the selection, it looks a tough ask.

FAIR FRANK : 2pt Win @ 2/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Cheltenham - 19th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from the Cheltenham & Fontwell racecourses with one selection from each meeting.

14.25 Cheltenham – Shloer Chase (Grade 2) (Registered as the Cheltenham Chase) (15.9f)

Cloudy Dream (168)
Special Tiara (165)

Special Tiara & Fox Norton go head to head once more at Prestbury Park, the last time these two met came in last seasons Queen Mothers Champion Chase where Special Tiara just held on in a thrilling finish by a head. De Bromhead’s ten year old went on to finish runner up to Altior at Sandown when beaten by eight lengths.

Fox Norton went on to better things when landing the Grade 1 Melling Chase & Champion Chase, winner of this race last year when beating Simply Ned by nine lengths and will have to contend with a 8lb rise but still looks open to improvement. However, the selection comes in Cloudy Dream, this seven year old Grey finished just six lengths behind Altior in last seasons RP Arkle and went on to land the Future Champions Chase at Ayr.

Jefferson’s entry made up dozens of lengths when just denied in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree last month and only comes into this with a 4lb penalty, he is a serious improver and one to follow this season, this is a tough second seasons assignment, however cannot see why he will not be up for a big run against some good improving types.

CLOUDY DREAM : 2pt Win @ 9/2 (BOG)

14.40 Fontwell – Toteexacta Salmon Spray Handicap Hurdle (17.5f)

Its’afreebee (140)
Ardamir (128)
Clayton (126)

This is one open handicap indeed, but Dan Skelton’s Its’afreebee has a big chance on his old hurdling form. He was way out of his depth when attempting three miles last time out at Chepstow, however if we go back to when he ran third to Yorkhill in the Neptune which included the likes of Yanworth, has beaten the likes of Cole Harden this year around the chase sphere so at the odds he looks a serious player off these terms.

Gary Moore has a fairly good record around Fontwell, and saddles the interesting Clayton. If we disregard his last run and take on board when second to Pete The Mayo Man at Newbury around this time last year, he comes here 7lb better off for that run and should be in the frame at least. Ardamar gets the big odds, however he has not been seen hurdling since finishing fifth at Donny, he was beaten out of sight, but did run way above his current mark here of 123.

ITS’AFREEBEE : 1pt each way @ 11/1 (BOG)

Fulham vs Derby County - Match Preview

Fulham vs Derby County – Match Preview – The international break gave time for both teams to reflect on their defeats just before it, Fulham losing 2-0 to Wolves and Derby County surprisingly getting beat 4-2 at home to Reading. However, before that, there was a very different trend in form for the two teams, one undefeated in seven and one winless in five.

After finishing in the play-offs last time around, The Cottagers were tipped to have another strong showing this term, but Slavisa Jokanvoic’s Fulham have not picked up a victory since September 29th.

Three defeats in that period have seen the London club fall to 17th in The Championship, but such as the nature of the division, they are nearly as close to Aston Villa in the play-offs as they are to Birmingham City in the relegation zone. In fact, there are just eight points between Middlesbrough in 5th and Hull City in 20th, so a run of form could easily see Fulham back in contention.

Vydra has been in good form for Derby so far this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

Derby County, as previously mentioned, were on a tremendous hot streak that had seen four consecutive victories and no defeats in seven – form that rocketed Gary Rowett’s team into the play-off places.

Jaap Stam’s Reading spoiled the party before the international break however, as The Royals came and turned The Rams over at Pride Park. That defeat allowed Aston Villa to creep ahead of Derby into 6th, but with a game in hand on all the teams above them, The Rams will still be feeling positive and confident of beating Fulham to continue their upward momentum.

Derby’s last two visits to Craven Cottage have resulted in both teams sharing the points and as Fulham have drawn five of their eight home games so far this season, it might well just happen again.

Ryan Sessegnon is attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League Photo Credit: skysports.com

Player to Watch

Despite playing in England’s second-tier, Ryan Sessegnon is already a name known throughout the higher reaches of the game due to his constant links with some major clubs, such as Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. The left-back (who can also play in left-midfield), is already surprisingly making a name for himself as a goal-scorer.

The 17-year-old has six in his 41 appearances for Fulham to date but more remarkably, finished as the Golden Boot winner at the u19 European Championships with England in the summer – a tournament the Young Lions went on to win for the first time in history. Watch this space.

Suggested Tips

Manchester United vs Newcastle United – Match Preview – Premier League action returns after an action packed international break. Manchester United are the hosts for the late kick off on Saturday, with Newcastle United their visitors.

Both sides lost their most recent matches with Manchester United losing 1-0 to Chelsea thanks to an Alvaro Morata goal. Newcastle were narrowly defeated by an underperforming Bournemouth side in dramatic fashion, with a 92nd minute winner by Steve Cook.

Martial can cause the Newcastle defence problems with his dribbling Photo Credit: skysports.com

Manchester United are currently sitting 2nd in the Premier League, only behind their city rivals Manchester City. The gap has recently grown to eight points meaning Jose Mourinho and his side have a huge task on their hands if they’re going to catch up with this in-form City side. In a positive twist, the Red Devils have conceded the least amount of goals in the campaign thus far; letting in just five goals from 11 matches. Not only is their defence impressing the fans but so is their attack.

Summer signing Romelu Lukaku is having no trouble finding the back of the net with seven goals this season, spearheading the United attack. French winger Anthony Martial has also found his feet under Jose Mourinho’s guidance and has showcased his dazzling dribbling skills that are leaving full backs for dead. A squad full to the brim of quality, they should have too much firepower for this Newcastle side.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Man Utd to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 100/30

Rafa Benitez has done a very good job so far with his Newcastle side, despite plenty of off the field controversy surrounding the club with owner Mike Ashley. They are a very organised outfit that have proved tough to break down; even against the top sides. They are currently eleventh in the Premier League having accumulated 14 points from 11 matches. Not bad for a newly promoted side.

Shelvey will hope he can control the midfield for Newcastle Photo Credit: skysports.com

Captain Jamaal Lascelles has grown into a great leader for the side with his commitment only to be described as exemplary. Jonjo Shelvey has also been a standout performer for Newcastle, being the catalyst for Newcastle in both attack and defence. They have the quality and pace to be able to catch Manchester United out this Saturday. If they line up in a 4-4-2 like in recent weeks, there could be some pressure on Mourinho’s depleted back line.

Skybet Match Result – Newcastle to Win – 12/1

Suggested Tips

Watford vs West Ham United - Match Preview

Watford vs West Ham United – Match Preview – New West Ham boss David Moyes takes his side to Vicarage Road as they face an in-form Watford side.

This week has seen mounting speculation over the future of Watford boss Marco Silva. After impressing at Hull City last season, Silva has again shone following Watford’s impressive start to the new season. With Everton having a reported approach turned down already, all eyes are on whether they will go back in once more. Silva would certainly fit the mould at Goodison and has so far dealt with every task thrown at him, making him a logical candidate for the job. Even without Silva’s managerial input, Watford have been impressive this season in the league. The Hornets currently sit ninth, just four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool.

Richarlison is attracting other clubs with his performances for Watford Photo Credit: skysports.com

The attacking style of play that Silva has coached has breathed a new lease of life into a number of players, not least of all Tom Cleverly. After a hit and miss time at Everton, the former Manchester United midfielder joined Watford in the summer and has been an integral part of their season to date. Despite only joining in the summer, Cleverly has captained the team on numerous occasions this campaign, highlighting the confidence that Silva has in him. Another star performer has been summer signing Richarlison. Only three months since joining the club for £12million, it is reported that several of the Premier League big hitters are eyeing up the Brazilian.

West Ham on the other foot are a club in disarray. After dismissing Slaven Bilic last week, the club have turned to Moyes until the end of the season. This is the Scotsman’s first job since leaving Sunderland last year following their relegation to the Championship. With many fans uninspired by their new appointment, Moyes needs a good result as soon as possible. The club currently sit in the relegation zone but are only one point behind fourth-bottom Bournemouth. There is no doubting the quality within the Hammers’ squad and if Moyes can unlock that potential and find the right balance, there’s no reason why they can’t shoot up the table.

Can David Moyes turn West Ham’s fortunes around? Photo Credit: skysports.com

I can only see goals coming in this game. Only the top six clubs have scored more goals than Watford this season (17), whilst West Ham have the leakiest defence in the whole division, conceding 23 goals in just 11 games. If Moyes is to sort this side out, it’s the defence that needs work. With experienced professionals such as Winston Reid and Jose Fonte, the club should not be as poor defensively as they are. With the way the two clubs are at the moment, I can only see one winner on Sunday. This could very well turn out to be the shock result of the weekend, but personally, I can’t see it happening.

Prediction: Watford 2-0 West Ham
