Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid – Champions League Preview – After securing their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League, Chelsea will be hoping to seal top spot against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

Antonio Conte’s men hold a two-point lead at the top of Group C and know a win would secure them first place. Chelsea beat Atletico back on matchday two, with a late Michy Batshuayi goal sealing them the win.

Chelsea have won five of their last six games, and haven’t lost since their defeat to Roma in October. In the league, Chelsea secured their sixth win in seven games when they beat Newcastle 3-1 at the weekend. In keeping with his recent form, Eden Hazard ran the show, grabbing himself another brace. The Belgian now has 11 goals this season, despite missing the beginning of the campaign through injury. If Chelsea are to challenge for the title, then their hopes are pinned on the form of this man.

Since losing to Roma 3-0, Conte has dropped Brazilian defender David Luiz. The Brazilian had been a mainstay since re-joining the club last year, but after an alleged row with Conte, he has started just two games since October. In his place, Andreas Christensen has impressed. The Danish defender is finally getting a run in the team at the heart of Chelsea’s back three and has looked accomplished. He has started Chelsea’s last five games with the side only conceding two goals and collecting three clean sheets. If the Danish youngster continues in this rich vein of form, it might spell the end for Luiz’s second stint at the club.

Atletico go into this match knowing they have to win. Anything less than three points would see the Spanish club dumped out at the group stages after reaching the semi-final or better in three of the last four years. If Atletico do win, they have to hope Roma fail to beat Qarabag, a result that would see Diego Simeone’s men through by virtue of their head to head record.

The last time these two sides met at Stamford Bridge was the semi-final of this competition in 2014. Atletico won 3-1 at Stamford Bridge to take them through to the final, where they would be later defeated 4-1 by Real. Having met only six times in Europe, Chelsea have won twice.

In the league this season, Chelsea have kept seven clean sheets from their 15 games. That percentage ranks them joint second in the division, with only Manchester United above them. Similarly, Atletico have been one of the tightest defences in La Liga, conceding just seven goals. Keeper Jan Oblak has managed eight clean sheets from 14 games as a result.

With that in mind, I think this will be a tight game with a lot riding on it. I think Chelsea may just scrape through with a victory, given their impressive form of late.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-0 Atletico Madrid

Horse Racing Preview - Hereford - 29th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Hereford & Wetherby with a selection from each meeting.

14.40 Hereford – Abf The Soldiers Charity Mares Handicap Hurdle (16.2f)

Miss Night Owl (129)
Apache Song (120)

Olly Murphy’s Undefined Beauty is attempting the hattrick this afternoon, she has won twice this season off a mark 0f 107 and will have to deal with a 10lb rise at the weights, but she is a very progressive sort and gets the inform Dicky Johnson on board.

James Eustace’s Apache Song came on from what looked a short flat career to take a Novice hurdle by just under two lengths at Market Rasen eight weeks ago off a mark of 119. The runner up and the third have both recorded wins recently off marks of 108 & 109 respectably, however this would make Apache Song’s win very flattering.

The selection comes in the way of Tom George’s Miss Night Owl who is looking for her second season win, She started where she left off last season when winning at Stratford when beating the likes of 130 Graceful Legend by six lengths. She ran too poor to be true when tackling the OLBG.com Mares Hurdle at Wetherby early this month finishing second last.

If any consolation, Graceful Legend went on from that race to frank the form at Ascot last weekend when winning the Trisoft Mares Handicap with considerable ease off 127. The outrun winner was La Bague Au Roi who is turning into a smart hurdler when landing the Listed OLBG.com Mares Hurdle yesterday at Kempton off 140.

MISS NIGHT OWL : 3pt Win @ 7/4 (BOG)

15.05 Wetherby – British Stallion Studs EBF Mares Standard Open NH Flat Race (16f)

Fergal O’Brien’s bumper horses have been in solid form and their entry here Jennifer Juniper is the daughter of Kalanisi and will make her awaited debut this afternoon. She was a £30,000 purchase as was a useful p2p and on paper, the one to beat.

Oscar World represents Martin Keighley who has had the benefit of two runs around this sphere, she finished fourth on debut under rules when behind Herecomestheboom from the same stable of Fergal O’Brien. Harrisons Promise ran a good second on debut at Kelso, is surely to be on the premises if building on that run.

You can never overlook a sired Shirocco entry here and Charmayne who represents Stuart Edmunds is this afternoon’s selection. She was disappointing on debut at Warwick out paced three out and never looked like troubling the principles. She should show more experience this time around and at 20/1 could be value in the race.

CHARMAYNE : 1pt each way @ 20/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Uttoxeter & Navan - 26th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Uttoxeter and Navan with a selection from each meeting.

14.15 Uttoxeter – Uttoxeter & Cheadle Voice Handicap Chase (18.1f)

Kerry Lee’s Krackatoa King will relish stepping back up in trip this afternoon, his last run three weeks ago saw him finish a wayward eighteen lengths behind eventual winner Daklondike of David Pipes, he took a long time to really get into the race and probably lost it a long way from home, this extra quarter of a mile should give him that opportunity to grind this out under Dicky Johnson this afternoon.

One that I do fear is Colin Tizzard’s Bears Rails. he has failed to finish on his past two outings and looks up against it on paper, however with the booking of Aidan Coleman you would probably give him a bigger chance than many in this race. The old boy in the race and bottom weight is Brian Llewellyn’s Hansupfordetroit who actually is still capable of running a solid race around this company this afternoon. He does have a bit to find at the weights with a few of these, however if he handles the longer trip he could out run those odds.

KRACKATOA KING : 3pt Win @ 11/10 (BOG)

15.35 Navan – Coolmore N.H Sires Irish EBF Mares Flat Race {Listed) (16f)

A few stand out stats here for me which revolves around the jockey bookings, there are a few coming into this that have had a shuffle around on bookings, let’s start with Crackerdancer, in all three rides she has been ridden by Timothy Brett who has two wins and a second on her, they change bookings, Katie Walsh has elected to not ride Jessica Harrington’s The Princetonian, however will be on Biddy The Boss for Gavin Cromwell, David Dunsden stays loyal to Willie Mullins Redhotfilypeppers.

So for me if Patrick has been given permission to stay loyal to Lady Ischia I personally think that is a tip in itself. There is no better judge of a horse around this sphere than Patrick Mullin’s, you have your Nina Carberry’s, your Katie Walsh’s etc etc, but not everyone has the ability to switch off a horse in a bumper than Patrick, Lady Ischia could not of been more impressive when winning under rules on debut at Naas two weeks ago when beating Best of Dubai by twelve lengths. Gordon Elliot’s horse that day was in receipt of 10lb and still he could not get close to the selection, this time around just conceding 4lb it should be a done deal in my opinion.

Gordon Elliott has been racking up four timers all over Ireland recently, and he has a few good chances on today’s card, his representation here is Best of Dubai and Moonlight Escape, now the latter looks the main danger here, second to Biddy the Boss at Fairyhouse, she gave the formline a boost when winning on her next run at Galway by six lengths. She was eased by J J Codd on that occasion, however she gets the strong handling of another jockey here in Nina Carberry, but I feel she will have to step up to be the selection despite getting a 3lb pull at the weights.

I feel that with Patrick Mullins staying loyal to Lady Ischia speaks volumes and I expect her to be hard to beat, Crackendancer will relish the conditions which saw her win twice at Limerick and over course and distance, but will have to give weight all round, Biddy The Boss and Moonlight Escape have to respected especially the latter is strong market support.

Lady Ischia : 2pt Win @ 7/4 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Ascot - 25th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Ascot & Haydock this afternoon.

13.30 Ascot – Trisoft Mares Handicap Hurdle (21.5f)

River Arrow (128)
Whatsthatallabout (127)
On Demand (126)

A very tight mares hurdle here, Neil Mulholland’s Whatsthatallabout racked up a spin of three wins at the back end of last season and starts this campaign 4lb lower than when rounding off last year when winning off a mark of 123 at Bangor, she has to be respected here. On Demand ran a creditable fifth two weeks ago when behind Lamanver Odyssey at Wincanton. I am not convinced though that she actually stays this trip.

The selection comes from the Tim Symond’s yard in River Arrow, she finished off last season with two goods on the AW at Southwell around the novice ranks. She finished off the season when third to Snow Leopardess in a valuable Grade 2 contest at Newbury, she can make her presence felt in this weaker contest.

RIVER ARROW : 2pt Win @ 5/1 (BOG)

12.40 Haydock – Betfair Each Way Edge Handicap Chase (28.3f)

Emperors Choice (136)
Royale Knight (135)
Hainan (132)

Venetia William’s Emperor’s Choice has pulled up more times in the last year, however the last time he turned up here over course and distance he was successful when winning off a mark 135, he is coming into this 8lb lower than that win and an eye catching booking of Tom Scudamore.

Royale Knight will have to concede over a stone here to the selection. He made a pleasing re-appearance when finishing fourth over three miles when diverting back to hurdles. Being no stranger to these competitive distances he has to come into the equation, last but not least Hainan, Sue Smith’s six year old will step into unknown territory when tackling over three miles for the first time this afternoon.

With a win over three miles at the turn of the year when off a mark of 118, however he has failed to show close to that form now off a 14lb higher mark.

EMPERORS CHOICE : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

Celebrity 2017

Another year and another ‘I”m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here’ with celebrities entering the jungle for one reason or another. More bush tucker trials and kangaroo parts for the celebs to feast on!

We take a look at a few of the contenders and their odds of winning this year, along with our pick to win!

Amir Khan

Amir Khan has not had the best of years, with personal problems in his marriage and it being over a year since his last fight. But the 30 year old is looking to regain his status by becoming a sofa favourite during the next three weeks in the jungle. No one is really sure of why he has entered but one thing that can be assured is the public wanting to see Khan in as many uncomfortable scenarios as possible, something that could work in favour of the boxer. If there was a market for who will do the most trials, I can guarantee it will be this man.

Odds to Win – 12/1

Stanley Johnson

Stanley Johnson, the father to politician, Boris Johnson, will be the oldest member of the jungle this year. The 77 year old has written around 25 books and may be best known for his disagreement with his son, Boris, over Brexit, as Stanley wanted to remain. If Stanley is anything like his son, then we could be up for a few laughs, though I cannot see him winning, but coming in the top 4.

Odds to Win – 5/1

Georgia Toffolo

Georgia Toffolo is known for being on the E4 show, Made in Chelsea. The 23 year old, known as ‘Toff’, has completed a Law degree as she looks to get involved in commercial law. Toff lives the lavish life, as well as on the show, so a complete change of scenario could be interesting for viewer’s as we get to see how she adapts to the jungle. Toff has a great chance of winning, as reflected in the odds.

Odds to Win – 3/1

Dennis Wise

Dennis Wise, ex Chelsea and Wimbledon footballer, now 50, is best known for his ‘hard man’ mentality on the field and viewer’s will be able to see if he can live up to that name when involved in a trial. Wise is said to be a little claustrophobic, something that will entice the viewer’s to vote for the former midfielder in order to see him in an uncomfortable situation.

Odds to Win – 14/1

The other contenders in the jungle are: Rebekah Vardy, Vanessa White, Jack Maynard, Shappi Khorsandi, Jamie Lomas, Jennie McAlpine, Kezia Dugdale and Iain Lee.

Managerial Casualties - Who is next to go?

Managerial Casualties – The 2017-2018 FA Premier League season has already seen plenty of manager’s sacked due to bad performances or issues with the board. As of today, West Bromwich Albion have parted ways with Tony Pulis, who had been in charge of the Baggies since January 2015. After an unconvincing start and laboured football, the Welshman has been sacked.

The first casualty in the Premier League was Frank de Boer, who took charge of Crystal Palace for only 77 days. The Dutchman was not able to capture his Ajax form and transfer it to the London club. With no points or goals in the first 4 games, de Boer was sacked. Former England manager, Roy Hodgson has taken charge since.

Craig Shakespeare, who took over the sacked Claudio Ranieri at Leicester back in February 2017, was the next to go after 236 days in charge. Shakespeare led the Foxes to a Champions League Quarter Final last season but was sacked after just 8 games into the new season. Former Southampton boss, Claude Puel now manages Leicester.

Another Dutchman to part ways with their club was Ronald Koeman from Everton. Koeman left Southampton to take over Everton and was given a huge transfer budget in which he spent over £150 million, including signing Swansea midfielder, Gylfi Sigurdsson, for £45 million. Koeman was in charge of the merseyside club for 496 days. David Unsworth is currently in charge of Everton whilst they decide on their new manager.

Slaven Bilic was at West Ham for 881 days and had a tough time at West Ham. Leaving Upton Park to move to the Olympic Stadium caused the team issues due to the size of the pitch and though Bilic was able to strengthen the team with signings such as Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, the team were unable to gel together and look to be plummeting even after the Croat’s departure. Former Sunderland manager, David Moyes, is now in charge at West Ham.

Here is our selection of managers that we believe could be next in line to face the chop:

Paul Clement – Swansea City

Paul Clement Photo Credit: skysports.com

Swansea have struggled to make an impact under Paul Clement. The Swans have only won 2 league games and have conceded double the amount of goals they have scored. A loss last weekend to Burnley has mounted more pressure on Clement as the Swans sit second from bottom with 8 points.

3/1 – Skybet

Mark Hughes – Stoke City

Mark Hughes Photo Credit: skysports.com

Stoke City have been consistent in the Premier League but have not given the fans anything to shout about. Though always tough to play against, the Potter’s have only managed 3 wins so far this season, with goals being a huge problem to come by. 12 points from 13 league games sees Stoke in 15th place and if Hughes is not able to get better performances then he could be departing the Bet365 Stadium.

12/1 – Skybet

Mauricio Pellegrino – Southampton

Mauricio Pellegrino Photo Credit: skysports.com

Pellegrino came in as Southampton manager with pretty much the same team that Claude Puel had and the reason behind Puel’s sacking was down to the not scoring enough goals, entertaining the fans and rumours of dispute with players. Pellegrino could potentially be facing the same song as his side have only managed 9 goals in 12 league games and another side conceding more than scoring, even with the likes of Virgil van Djik and Cedric Soares in the defence. Hopefully he will get more time but must get the Saints to start performing with the talent in the team.

12/1 – Skybet

Antonio Conte – Chelsea

Antonio Conte Photo Credit: skysports.com

A strange one for many but since the Italian led the Blues to Premier League victory last season, Conte has not looked happy and this could be down to personnel and  problems with the owner, Roman Abramovich. Conte wouldn’t be the first Chelsea manager to have clashed with the Russian Billionaire, as Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti found out during their time in London. Issues with striker Diego Costa and the sale of Nemanja Matic to title rivals Manchester United clearly took a toll on the Italian and his side have not begun as they did last season. Furthermore, centre back, David Luiz had been dropped signalling more problems.

Not the worst start by any means, as Chelsea sit in 3rd, though a huge 9 points off leaders, Manchester City, but, a trophy less season could see the Italian move on, or even see him resign. The likelihood of Conte leaving would make more sense in the summer, rather than any time soon.

12/1 – Skybet

Horse Racing Preview - Aintree - 11th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Aintree & Doncaster.

13.40 Aintree – Pertemps Network (Supporting Btrc) Handicap Hurdle (24.8f)

Winningtry (155)
Beer Goggles (146)
Vyta Du Roc (133)

Top weight here Beer Goggles has been in a rich vein of form since coming back over hurdles, with three wins and two placed runs this year he has definitely thrived. He ran here over course and distance two runs back when finishing runner up to Knight of Noir when probably giving enough weight away to be defeated by the five length margin.

His rise in the weights of 10lb did not stop him when just hanging on from Dan Skelton’s Sir Mangan at Newton Abbott last month. Winningtry was back in sixth that day fifteen lengths off the winner, he was out of the handicap that day and getting over a stone at the weights, he does have it all to do to reverse the form, but Sean Bowen takes over this afternoon for the first time off a very low riding weight for the jockey.

Best of the rest looks Nicky Henderson’s Vyla Du Roc who gets his retained jockey Daryl Jacob who would usually be riding the selection Winningtry. He was last seen at Aintree around the hurdle ranks when finishing third over two and a half miles, has only dropped 3lb here and could find this a little difficult at the weights.

WINNINGTRY : 2pt Win @ 11/2 (BOG)

14.40 Doncaster – Betfred TV EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Gillies Fillies Stakes (Listed) (10.2f)

Melesina (109)
Vintage Folly (101)
Indulged (98)

How many times this year I have watched Richard Fahey put a horse into a race that has no place of being there and it runs a massive race. He is represented here with Melesina who was last seen on the all weather at Lingfield when finishing midfield to Muffri’ha in the Listed Fleur De Lys Fillies Stakes. Now his only win in this country came over 7.5f at Beverley when winning off a mark of 84, however if he brings his continent Listed win to the table which saw him land the Le Carmago stakes at Saint-Cloud over just short of a mile on soft ground, he cannot be disregarded.

On paper the likely winner would probably come from Vintage Folly, Hugo Palmer’s three year old was not disgraced when running second to Beautiful Morning in the Listed John Musker’s Fillies Stakes at York, back in fourth was Indulged to three and a quarter lengths, the sixth, Titi Makfi gave the race a boost recently when landing the Listed 32Red Floodlit Fillies Stakes when beating 106 rated Red Verdon.

I am going to take a small chance here on Melesina, she is probably out of her depth, but like so many Fahey runners at the back end of the season they seem to be running up to their present marks and if posting his 109 run he would have to be considered as an each way bet at 20/1.

MELESINA : 1pt each way @ 20/1 (BOG)

15.25 Aintree – Free Spins At 188Bet Casino Handicap Chase (15.9f)

Ballyhiil (153)
Pain Au Chocolat (141)
Imjoeking (139)

Rebecca Menzies Pain Du Chocolat comes here off the back of a good win last month when taking the scalp of Duke of Navan by four lengths when in receipt of 5lb, they meet once more with Duke of Navan now getting a 3lb pull, it’s hard to split them once more however, I expect the form to be lot closer this time around with Rya Day’s 3lb claim.

But they all will have to be in the game to match the likes of Nigel Twiston-Davies Ballyhill here who has had two more productive runs against top opposition like Sceau Royal and last time when a close two and a half lengths behind North Hill Harvey. He would not have to pull out much here to land the spoils under amateur Zac Baker.

BALLYHILL : 3pt Win @ 15/8 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Newbury - 9th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Newbury racecourse.

13.40 Newbury – Dawnus Handicap Chase (19.8f)

This would look a good opportunity for Nigel Twiston-Davies’ Colins Brother to bounce back to winning ways here. If the ground holds up on the good side of soft he should be thereabouts considering he was seen close this time last year when finishing third over a furlong less than this afternoon. He looked in need of the run at Ludlow last time on ground that probably came up too soft for a seasons re-appearance.

Nigel Hawke teams up with Danny Cook for the first time with Greybougg, now this is the intriguing entry for me. We last saw him hacking up at Ludlow on his last seasonal run of 2016, He has been risen 8lb for that win however, he has equipped himself well enough around Newbury over shorter trips and looks in need of the two and a half miles and will enjoy the soft ground.

GREYBOUGG : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

14.10 Newbury – CSP Mares Novices Hurdle (16.3f)

This looks on paper a strong match up between Fergal O’Brien’s Cap Soleil and the selection who represents Richard Hobson stable in Dame Rose. The former comes here unbeaten from the NHF and will make her awaited hurdles debut. She looks a very smart mare after taking two Listed bumpers at Cheltenham and Sandown, she must be taken seriously.

However, I am taking her on with Dame Rose, she achieved a little better around the bumper sphere when landing the Grade 2 Goffs Nickel Coin Mares at Aintree when fending off Oscar Rose one of her adversaries here. She got off at the first time of asking at Hexham in a Novice hurdle winning it in fine style by twelve lengths, with that slight hurdling experience I will give her the nod to overturn Cap Soleil here.

DAME ROSE : 2pt Win @ 7/2 (BOG)
