Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur
Wednesday 27th February 2019
FA Premier League,  Stamford Bridge

Live on BT Sport 1 – Kick-Off: 20:00 GMT

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur: Chelsea will be hoping to bounce back from their Carabao Cup final defeat when they host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, hoping to move back into the top four.

Maurizio Sarri’s side put on a much-improved display in the capital after taking Manchester City to penalties. Sarri, who is under massive pressure, showed a willingness to adapt, which is the first time we’ve seen that under the Italian. The match was overshadowed by Kepa Arrizabalaga’s antics, after refusing to be substituted. The incident looks bad, not only for the Spanish ‘keeper, but for Sarri as well. It highlighted the problem with Chelsea, the manager has no respect from his players, due to their sacking culture. It’ll be interesting to see if Kepa start tonight – I think he will – or if Sarri sticks to his guns. A win for Chelsea could see them move up to fourth. They’re currently three points behind Arsenal, but do hold a game in hand. Whether they secure Champions League football or not could be the defining factor in Sarri’s long-term future.

Tottenham suffered their first defeat four league outings after Burnley beat them 2-1. Harry Kane made his injury comeback at Turf Moore but couldn’t steer his side to three points, despite getting on the scoresheet. This is the first game in a big week for Spurs, they face Chelsea, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in the space of six season-defining days. They hold a strong lead over the German league-leaders but games against the Blues and the Gunners could have a big impact on their season. Although outsiders, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are only six points behind Liverpool at the top of the table. There is still a small chance they could challenge for the title, especially with Kane back to full fitness.

Andre Marriner is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 32 top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 33. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.

Chelsea will be hopeful of building on their performance at the weekend and will look to send out a signal against Spurs. Similarly, Tottenham won’t want to suffer back-to-back defeats, especially to a rival. Therefore, I’m going for a draw.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 1 with kick off at 19:45.

Newcastle United vs Burnley – Match Preview

Newcastle United vs Burnley
Tuesday 26th February 2019
FA Premier League,  St James’ Park

Live on BT Sport 1 – Kick-Off: 20:00 GMT

Newcastle United vs Burnley: Newcastle and Burnley go toe-to-toe in a crucial game at the bottom of the Premier League, with both sides buoyed by a recent upturn in form.

The Toon Army were treated to a comfortable 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town at the weekend. Record signing Miguel Almiron was a key figure on his home debut. Playing in the ‘number ten’ role, the Paraguayan gave a promising glimpse to the home faithful about what he is all about. Newcastle have missed a silky, creative presence for a number of years but they seem to have found their answer. The win over the Terriers took the Toon Army to 15thin the table on 28 points, four points above the drop zone. Whilst they are far from guaranteed safety, ten points from their last five games has gone a long way to securing another season of Premier League football. Rafa Benitez’s side have won their last three home games and with Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton to follow, they’ll be confident about ending the season strongly.

Burnley recorded the shock result of the weekend with a 2-1 win over Tottenham. Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes’ second-half strikes did the damage. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last seven league outings, collecting 18 points in the process. All of those results have come after Sean Dyche reinstated club captain Tom Heaton between the sticks. The Englishman has been in superb form, with suggestions of an England recall growing. In attack, Barnes and Wood have proven to be a nuisance. The duo have scored 11 of Burnley’s last 14 goals in the league, which is some record. On the road, Dyche’s side are unbeaten in their last four.

Craig Pawson is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 31 top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 43.1. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 60+ total points for this fixture.

Both of these sides are in fine fettle, despite being near the bottom of the league. It’s a big game for both teams and I don’t see much separating them. I’m going for a draw, which would extend the impressive unbeaten runs of both sides.

Newcastle United vs Burnley will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 1 with kick off at 20:00 GMT.

Chelsea vs Manchester City – Match Preview

Chelsea vs Manchester City
Sunday 24th February 2019
The Carabao Cup (League Cup) Final,  Wembley Stadium

Live on Sky Sports Main Event – Kick-Off: 16:30 GMT

Chelsea vs Manchester City: Premier league Champions Manchester City face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, bidding to secure the first piece of silverware of the domestic season, two weeks after beating the Blues 6-0.

Pep Guardiola’s side were on the right side of that 6-0 mauling just a fortnight ago, which will still be fresh in the memory. The Citizens will be looking retain their title – if they were to do so, it would be the first time Manchester City have defended a trophy in the club’s history. Defending a trophy would be a huge statement for City, more so than actually winning the cup itself. Each time they have won the Premier League, they have faltered that following campaign. That’s a trait Guardiola is looking to eradicate, to make them a real powerhouse in English football. In midweek, City came from behind, with ten men, to beat Schalke in the Champions League. Raheem Sterling scored the winner in the 90th minute, the fifth time he’s scored past the 80th minute this season.

Chelsea were also successful in Europe this week, after beating Malmo FC 3-0. Callum Hudson-Odoi was on the scoresheet after starting the game. The big story of the week has been FIFA charging the club with 29 breaches of regulations in signing young players. That charge means Chelsea won’t be able to sign anyone for two transfer window. That ban looks set to be suspended until after this summer, due to their appeal, however, it has cast doubt on a number of key players’ future. Eden Hazard, CHO, David Luiz, amongst others, deals all expire in the next 12 months. That puts the club under serious pressure, with an under-fire manager at the helm. Maurizio Sarri has a huge task to keep his job but a much-improved performance against the champions would certainly help.

Craig Pawson is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 14 top-flight matches this campaign. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 48.8 As a result, I would recommend a maximum of 60+ total points, for this fixture.

Manchester City are overwhelming favourites for this match and rightly so. I don’t think it will be quite the white-wash of a fortnight ago, however I still fancy City to win.

Chelsea vs Manchester City will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event with kick off at 16:30 GMT.
