Derby County vs Millwall – Match Preview

Derby County vs Millwall
Wednesday 20th February 2019
The Championship, Pride Park

Sky Sports Football – Kick-Off: 19:45pm

Derby County vs Millwall: Derby County will be looking to refocus their attention on the Championship and move back into the top six with a win over struggling Millwall.

The Rams were knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend as they went down 2-0 to Brighton and Hove Albion. That result allows Frank Lampard’s side to focus on their dwindling promotion campaign. Derby sit seventh in the table, two points behind sixth-placed Bristol City. If they were to win on Wednesday night it would take them level on points with Middlesbrough, with the same numbers of games played. In the league, they’ve won just three of their last ten games, although each of those wins came at Pride Park. It’s that home from that has been the bedrock of their promotion push – they’ve only lost twice on their own patch this season. Derby are fifth overall in the Championship home form table, which they’ll have to maintain to secure a place in the top six.

Millwall were also in FA Cup action and sealed a place in the last eight thanks to a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon. The Lions will take on Brighton for a place in the semi-final. In the league, Millwall are just two points above the relegation zone. Neil Harris’ side have, however, played two games less than Reading and Rotherham, who are directly below them. They have won just three of their last 16 games in the Championship, which is a major concern. On the road, they’re without a win since January 1st, which was their only away win this season, away at Ipswich. That puts them fourth bottom in the away table, having taken just seven points from 15 games.

James Linington is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 10 second-tier matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 32. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.

The respective records of these two sides should make this game relatively straight forwards. Derby are very good at home and Millwall are poor away. Therefore, I’m backing the rams to get all three points.

Derby Country vs Millwall will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Football with kick-off at 19:45 GMT.

Prediction: Derby County 2-0 Millwall

Liverpool vs Bayern Munich – Match Preview

Liverpool vs Bayern Munich
Tuesday 19th February 2019, Anfield
UEFA Champions League – Round of 16

BT Sport 2 – 20:00 GMT

Liverpool vs Bayern: Liverpool will be hoping to take make the most of home advantage when they host Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knock-out tie.

The Reds weren’t in action this weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round. That timely break has set Jurgen Klopp’s men up nicely for this meeting on Tuesday night. Last time out, the Reds comfortably dispatched of Bournemouth 3-0. Gini Wijnaldum was back in the side, and on the score sheet, after missing the previous two games. The Dutch midfielder has been Jurgen Klopp’s most consistent selection in the heart of midfield this season. Wijnaldum has established himself as a core member in this Reds side and his energy will be vital against the German champions. Sadio Mane opened the scoring against the Cherries, which is his fourth goal in as many games. The Malian international is hitting a hot streak of form at just the right time.

Bayern Munich recovered from twice going behind as they Augsburg 3-2 on Friday night. Niko Kovac’s side were far from convincing and needed the hot Kingsley Coman to rescue them as he bagged a brace. The French international limped off with an injury in that game but has been given the all-clear to travel to England. Bayern sit two points behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund but having played a game extra. After six straight league title, it would be a massive underachievement if they were to miss out on the Bundesliga this year. That has cranked up the pressure even further on Kovac, ahead of this tie.

Gianluca Rocchi is the referee for this game. The Italian official plies his trade in Serie A and has averaged 4.89 cards across nine matches this season. Therefore, I would recommend a maximum of 60+ total booking points for this fixture.

Liverpool’s speed and fluidity could cause Bayern major issues on the counter-attack. The Reds’ form makes them favourites for this game, in my eyes. As a result, I’m going for a home win.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Bayern Munich

Chelsea vs Manchester United – Match Preview

Chelsea vs Manchester United
Monday 18th February 2019
FA Cup – Fifth Round, Stamford Bridge

Live on BBC One – Kick-Off: 20:00 GMT

Chelsea vs Manchester United: Two of England’s giants go toe to toe for a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as Chelsea host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues bounced back from their 6-0 mauling at Manchester City with a 2-1 win over Malmo in midweek. That result may prove more important than first suggested. The Europa League could prove to be the Blues’ best route into the Champions League, as they languish sixth in the Premier League. Although Maurizio Sarri’s side are only a point behind Manchester United, who occupy fourth spot, they would be silly to dismiss the importance of the EL. It’s that same competition that led them into Europe in 2012. Similarly, a cup triumph for Sarri would not go amiss. They’re already in the final for the Carabao Cup, which takes place next weekend, so another run in this competition would be superb. Realistically, Chelsea have a chance to end the season with three trophies, which isn’t to be sniffed at.

United will be wanting to bounce back from their first defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after losing 2-0 to PSG in midweek. The Red Devils were outclassed by the French champions and have it all to do in Paris. Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard were forced off with injuries in that match and, as a result, I’d be surprised to see them feature on Monday night. Paul Pogba was also sent off on Tuesday, but he is eligible to play in this game. On the road, United have won every game under Solskjaer, so they will still come into this tie thinking they can get a positive result. United’s heritage in this competition means that OGS will take it seriously and name his strongest possible side.

Kevin Friend is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 12 top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 40.4. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 60+ total points for this fixture.

This is no doubt the game of the round and both sides will be out to prove a point. Chelsea will be desperate not to get rolled over after last weekend’s disappointment. Therefore,  I think they will ensure they don’t lose this tie within the 90 minutes at minimum.

Chelsea vs Manchester United will be televised live in the UK on BBC One with kick off at 20:00 GMT.
