Horse Racing Preview

Here is our horse racing preview for Saturday 5th April 2017 across UK and Ireland Horse Racing today, unit stakes advised upon each selection.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 5th April 2017 -Carlisle 3pm – Pauline Phizacklea Memorial Novices’ Hurdle

Mr Big Shot – 2/5 – 5/10pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 5th April 2017 – Leopardstown 3.30pm  Leopardstown ‘club 30’ Membership

Venice Beach – 9/4 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 5th April 2017 – Wolverhampton 4.15pm – Sunbets.co.uk Handicap

Red Tea – 11/4 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 5th April 2017 – Wincanton 4.25pm – Bet 10 Get 20 At 188Bet Open Hunters’ Chase

Mon Parrain – 11/8 – 3pt stake

Notes

Red Tea ran a good third at Lingfield last time out in a handicap and is relatively unexposed on the all weather. The filly has been off for 145 days and should be fresh, with Kirby booked for the ride.

Mon Parrain came 2nd to Poole Master at Warwick earlier in March when just beaten in the last 100 yards. The 11 year old Nicholl’s trained gelding had previously won at Fontwell with an emphatic 26 length victory, though only a 3 runner race. The gelding should be back on song here over 3m1f.

Horse Racing Preview – Southwell – 4th April 2017

14.40 Southwell

Here is our horse racing preview which comes from Southwell today. Not the best looking cards for a Tuesday, with the loss of Ludlow we are subject to a jump card at Kempton and an all weather experience at Southwell. Both selections will come from the all weather this afternoon with the fist being Chris Dwyer’s Arzaak. The son of Casamento is becoming extremely exposed and is 0-10 in his career resume. This will be his first visit to Southwell, but not taking anything away from him despite being beaten three times into the runners up spot he actually has not been beaten by wide margins.

He was just touched off in a 0-75 handicap at Newcastle two runs back and was not over disappointing when fifth at Wolverhampton last time going behind by one and a half lengths in what was a blanket finish between the top five finishers. He will be dropped back to the optimum trip this afternoon and once more gets the in form De Sousa in the plate.

Of any dangers in the race, both Hart Stopper and Sheepscar Lad should be on the premises, I am not convinced enough that Hart Stopper will be effective enough over today’s trip. His last race came at Wolverhampton over 7.2f when finishing third behind Expresso Freddo who has been beaten twice since, in fact the whole race has not really shown enough to emulate his run which has flattered him slightly. Nigel Tinkler’s Sheepscar Lad ran a good second to Melonade at Gosforth Park eleven days ago. He should come on for the run and is probably the main danger.

The race is what is is, a poor maiden, Sheepscar Lad will definitely be on the premises once more with no doubt Jamie Spencer wanting to get to the front on Hart Stopper, but the tentative vote goes to Arzaak, despite his 0-10 he should shed the experience against these now dropping back to 5f and with the blinkers being applied for the first time.

ARZAAK : 3pt Win @ 6/4 (BOG)
16.20 Southwell
This looks a match up on paper between Call Out Loud and Custard The Dragon. They both met each other ten days ago when the former got the better of Custard The Dragon to one length. This time around Custard The Dragon gets the 3lb turnaround at the weights, but with Rawlinson’s 3lb claiming weight I would like to predict the form will not be reversed. Mark Johnston’s Thomas Cranmer will probably try to burn them both off under Joe Fanning.

He was seen having a terrible fall at Chester on his last start of last season when un-shipping Franny Norton on the bend. His only win came in a maiden at Chester when beating Devil’s Bridge who commands a rating of 88, but has been subsequently thrashed on his first run of the new campaign at Doncaster last weekend.

Ed Walker has his team in good order on the all weather bringing a current stat of 6-14 (42%) to the table and saddles Bold Prediction. The son of Kodiac is just one of two in the race taking on the younger generation. He has not run that badly on all three appearances in 2017 competing at higher level than this afternoon’s contenders. With progressed runs his odds being the outsider of the field does not reflect that he is very capable of producing an upset now dropping into a 0-90 class event. Quixote will have his first run for new trainer David Loughnane after a good dead heated fourth at Kempton Park when trained by Tony Carroll.

This is as tricky as it comes, Custard The Dragon and Call Out Loud meet again with the latter probably having enough up his sleeve to fend off the John Mackie’s charge, Mark Johnston has to be feared in any all weather race, with Joe Fanning 7-20 (35%) and getting the three year old weight allowance he has to be taken seriously. I am really hoping a winner is there for Ed Walker with Bold Prediction here. He won a 0-95 at Lingfield Park in February last year and he has been consistent enough to really get into the winning enclosure this afternoon.  Cheekpieces have been applied for the first time and at 8/1 he has a realistic chance.

BOLD PREDICTION : 1pt Each Way @ 8/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 4th April 2017 – Southwell 5.25pm – Betway Stayers Handicap

Ominotago – 15/8 – 5pt stake

Notes

Quixote has been beaten in higher graded races than this and came a good 4th at Kempton when beaten a length. Slipping down the handicap, David Loughnane’s 7 year old can make a winning debut on the fibresand.

Ominotago returns to fibresand and is a course winner here at Southwell. Mick Appleby’s mare had won a maiden here by 8 lengths on a previous ocassion over 1m3f and looks to be on better terms than Eurato, who beat Ominotago at Wolverhampton in January.

Ball D’arc 6/4 – 5pt stake

 Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 2nd April 2017 – Ascot 3.05pm – Geotech Soil Stabilisation Novices’ Chase

Venezuela 4/6 – 5pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 2nd April – Doncaster 3.55pm  Adwick Kingpin Conditions Stakes

Muntahaa 7/4 – 3pt stake

Notes

Ball D’arc is on a three timer and looks to be the one to beat. Gordon Elliott’s gelding has done very well over fences, winning 2 Grade 3 events. Flemenstar could be the possible danger but has to overcome a over a year away from the track.

Aidan O’Brien’s Venezuela came 2nd in a maiden at Leopardstown last year and the form can be franked as the 3rd in that race has been placed in a Listed race. The 3 year old colt should be on the improvement and Aidan O’Brien will have Venezuela nicely readied.

Horse Racing Preview – Doncaster – 2nd April 2017

Good day all, our horse racing preview today is from Doncaster. Firstly I like to address that obviously the winners have not been flowing, not based on not trying, just not getting the run of the green and someone called Ryan Moore doesn’t help bagging the first three races!

14.15 – Doncaster

Rome was not built in a day, so onwards and upwards and once more we head off to Doncaster for what looks a less competitive card. As the season opens we tend to have many maidens floating around on the card, the second and third races at Doncaster see’s exactly that.

The first selection comes in the 2.15pm division 1, with the draw being favourable from middle to high I would tend to feel if going by the weather forecast we could see that bias change over the 7f index.

It has been a good indication to follow the money in these maidens, but I’m looking for value in the first selection. Richard Fahey entries have been for me not forward enough, but their entry Natajack ran a close second on debut for Tom Dascombe last season and changed yards over the winter to the northern based trainer who will no doubt have a couple of handicaps lined up for him.

One at a price is David Barron’s Bob Maxwell who makes his debut this afternoon. The son of Big Bad Bob should relish the ground and has a respectable draw to help the cause. The already gelded three year old should be getting further than this over the season being a half brother to Cloudracer.

Godolphin (Benbatl) and John Godsen’s (Jewel House) have to come into the equation with the latter running well when finishing runner up in a Windsor maiden, Benbatl will want further than this and has a derby entry.

Bob Maxwell : 1pt each way @ 16/1 (BOG)

14.45 – Doncaster

Division 2 comes in the 2.45pm and we are subject to seeing our second season sire Frankel have a colt on show here in Dream Castle who has some very strong engagements throughout the season. No doubt he will be ready to go and should be landing this prize. So the question is who is good enough to go toe to toe with the Frankel colt?

Charlie Hills yard are usually quick out of the blocks at the start of the season and their entry here Never You Mind is by a useful handicapper, Bated Breath and half brother to Rocket Ship. Again he is another that will get further in time, but at the odds he looks a solid well pedigreed individual.

John Gosden (Loujain) & Roger Varian’s (To Dibba), both are sired by Dubawi and have had the benefit of a run with Loujain showing the best attitude when finishing third on debut at Newmarket. The form has worked out well with both the third and fourth running well again.

Never You Mind : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview – Doncaster – 1st April 2017

13.50 Doncaster – Betway Cammidge Trophy Stakes

Today’s Horse Racing Preview is from Doncaster. The flat season has finally arrived as we enter another season on the level. The first race to take centre stage is The Cammidge Trophy at 1.50pm with Richard Fahey’s Birchwood put in as the tissue favourite.

Last season’s Chester plate winner lost his way towards the end of the 2016 campaign at pattern level, he returns to listed company this afternoon and the dead 6f index for the first time since landing a conditional’s race at Newbury.

Kevin Ryan supplies the hood for the first time with Ride Like The Wind. Trained by Freddie Head last season, he will make his second appearance for the new yard and if performing up to his French win last season he has claims of hitting the frame.

Tupi had some smart form on his resume evict including landing the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes last season. Since then he has struggled to make an impact, but if repeating his Abernant Stakes run on this ground and distance he is a live threat.

The ground is the key for Mick Channon’s Mobsta who is returning to land this race for the second time. His Greenland Stakes win at The Curragh last year would definitely be hard to beat but he looks ground dependable.

This looks a solid chance for Richard Fahey to get his campaign up and running on the turf, Birchwood looks to have the ability to terrorise his opposition and show his class above these. Mobsta’s connections would probably want a heavy night of rain to see him to full effect. Ride like the Wind and Tupi should also be on the premises with the former an interesting contender.

Birchwood : 2pts Win @ 7/2 (BOG)

14.25 Doncaster – Betway Spring Mile

This race can tend to help for the draw bias when the Lincoln comes to run. One that really stands out for me in this is John Gosden’s Sacred Act. The son of Oasis Dream has what I would say been carefully coached throughout his scarce career.

He rounded off last season by taking the Information Services Handicap at Sandown Park over today’s trip. Lady Bamford has stressed he is a nice looking gelding and even at the age of six he certainly has the quality to land a decent prize

Richard Fahey has Nimr in this and the way he stretched to win the Lincoln trial at Wolverhampton was impressive and if bringing that kind of quickness and ability to the turf he is definitely a serious player.

I have this very close between Sacred Act and Nimr to land the race this year. Sacred Act is going to be a nice sort in handicaps this season, but the vote goes to Nimr, purely on the basis of her turn of foot and with Frankie Dettori booked, he should be landing this valuable handicap.

Nimr: 2pts Win @ 11/2 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview

Here is our horse racing preview for Saturday 1st April 2017 across UK and Ireland Horse Racing today, unit stakes advised upon each selection.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 1st April 2017 -Doncaster 1.50pm – Betway Cammidge Trophy Stakes (Listed)

Absolutely So 6/1 – 2pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 1st April 2017 – Doncaster 3pm  Betway Doncaster Mile Stakes (Listed)

Stormy Antarctic 3/1 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 1st April 2017 – Navan 3.25pm – Kilberry Restaurant Handicap Hurdle (80-109)

Hareth 9/2 – 2pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 1st April 2017 – Stratford 3.55pm – Bordeaux Undiscovered Mathilde Handicap Hurdle (Class 3)

Asum 8/1 – 2pt stake

Notes

Stormy Antarctic has been running in Group 1 company and  looks to have a great chance of crossing the line in first place. The 4 year old won the Group 3 Craven Stakes after a break and finished 2nd in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat in Chantilly last year. The Colt can run fresh and Ed Walker should have Stormy Antarctic in top shape after a 168 day break.

Asum didnt run its race on its handicap debut at Doncaster in January, running far too green. The drop back in trip along with the fitting of a hood should help the progressive Skelton trained gelding.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 31st March 2017 – Lingfield 2.30pm – 32red Casino Handicap

Right Action 11/4 – 2pt stake

Akula 9/2 – 2pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 31st March 2017 – Lingfield 4pm  Betway Stayers Handicap

Tartan Bute 2/1 – 5pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 31st March 2017 – Newcastle 7.45pm – Sun Bets On The App Store Apprentice Handicap

Swansway 3/1 – 3pt stake

Notes

Tartan Bute ran over shorter at Wolverhampton last time out and finished 2nd and now steps back up in trip, as when winning in early March over Course and Distance. Up 2lb, the Mark Johnston trained Gelding has a great chance. Marshall Aid could be the main danger.

Right Action ran a good 2nd at Chelmsford last time out. Though the race was void, the 3 year old looked progressive as it did at Wolverhampton, when winning a maiden after 5 months off, having been gelded. The Richard Fahey trained horse will have to come on again in this competitive handicap.

Horse Racing Preview – 30th March 2017

14.50 Warwick

Today’s Horse Racing Preview, we have 2 selections, the first comes from the 2.50pm at Warwick in Nigel Hawkes Deauville Crystal. The daughter of Ravens Pass looked to have plenty in hand at Newbury last weekend when given a very patient ride by Sean Bowen.

She travelled well throughout her race and picked them up from last to record a two and quarter length victory. She will have to step up once more to succeed, but she had been turned out quickly by the trainer which makes you think she’s still off a workable mark.

The danger in the race could probably be Magie Du Ma from the David Pipe yard. She finished in front of Evening Hush two weeks ago in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. She still looks progressive.

Deauville Crystal : 2pt Win @ 9/4 (BOG)

15.45 Wolverhampton

The all weather is always a tricky dilemma in finding well in horses, but Jamie Spencer rides David Simcock’s Ms Gillard who has a very live chance of getting her head in front this afternoon.

She is a consistent sort who ran well here last time when finishing runner up to Andrew Balding’s Alhajjaj, going behind by two lengths. She was very disappointing at Newcastle last time under 5lb claimer Sophie Killoran. She looks the type that could benefit from the hold-up tactics that Spencer had been portrayed for. A good pace and luck in running and she could get her head finally in front at the twelfth attempt.

Ms Gillard : 2pt win @ 3/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview

Here is our horse racing preview for Thursday 30th March 2017 across UK and Ireland Horse Racing today, unit stakes advised upon each selection.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 30th March 2017 – Limerick 2.45pm – Follow Limerick Racecourse On Facebook Handicap Hurdle

Landau 7/2 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 30th March 2017 – Taunton 3pm  Archer Mann Supports The RNLI Novices’ Handicap Chase

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 30th March 2017 – Wolverhampton 5.25pm – Betway Insider Handicap

Thorntoun Care 10/1 – 3pt stake (EW)

Notes

Landau returned from a 20 month break and finished 3rd at Naas over a month ago. The Gordon Elliott trained Gelding will certainly come on for that having had another 32 days off to be in top form in this handicap.

Thorntoun Care didn’t get the best of runs on his last C+D outing, finishing 7th. But the race didnt run to plan for the 6 year old and now 3lb lower than last time out, Iain Jardine’s Gelding has a great chance for his first win since 2014. Surround Sound could be the danger in the field.
