Manchester United vs Barcelona – Match Preview

Manchester United vs Barcelona
Wednesday 10th April, Old Trafford
UEFA Champions League, Quarter-Finals

Live on BT Sport 2 – Kick-Off: 20:00 GMT

Manchester United vs Barcelona: Manchester United will be hoping to cause another huge upset when they host Spanish giants Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

The Red Devils will be looking to return to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the first time. United were undone by Wolves last time out, as they battled back to win ten men, as Ashley Young saw red. The skipper will still be available for this game, but Solskjaer couldn’t have wished for tough opponents. United are unbeaten in their last four games, with Paris Saint-Germain the only side to win at Old Trafford since the Norwegian took charge. They will also take comfort from their performance against PSG in Paris, which saw them edge through in the most dramatic of circumstances. Against Barcelona, they will have to be patient, as they were on that night, and focus on hitting Pique and co on the counter-attack.

Barcelona head into this contest as huge favourites and are unbeaten in their last 19 league games, which has seen them establish an 11-point lead at the top of La Liga. To make matters worse, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have been back to their brilliant best lately. The Argentine magician has 10 goals in his last seven matches, whilst Suarez has notched seven times in his last nine appearances. Throw into the mix Phillipe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele’s exquisite talents and it seems like a near-impossible task. However, United can take comfort from the fact the Catalan giants failed to beat Tottenham in their last meeting during this season’s group stages, although they were safely through by that stage.

Gianluca Rocchi is the referee for this fixture. The Italian has officiated 12 Serie A matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 5.67 cards per game. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 60+ total booking points for this fixture.

Although United are much improved under Solskjaer, this match may just prove a test too far for them. They are capable of frustrating Barcelona, but I think Messi’s clash may be too much for them to handle.

Manchester United vs Barcelona will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 2 with kick off at 20:00 GMT.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City – Match City

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City
Tuesday 9th April, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
UEFA Champions League, Quarter-Finals

Live on BT Sport 2 – Kick-Off: 20:00 GMT

Tottenham vs Manchester City: Manchester City travel to Tottenham in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final, looking to inflict Spurs’ first defeat at their new stadium.

The champions warmed up for this all-English affair with a 1-0 FA Cup semi-final victory over Brighton and Hove Albion. Gabriel Jesus’ fourth-minute strike proved the difference, in a game where City failed to reach their usual high standards. The Brazilian has stood in for Sergio Aguero, who has missed the last two matches through injury. Pep Guardiola confirmed the Argentine forward could play in Tuesday’s showdown after the weekend win, so all eyes will be on the team sheets, come 7pm. The Citizens have won 13 of their last 14 matches in all competitions, with their 0-0 draw in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea their only blip. That relentless form seems them head away to Tottenham as clear favourites, having also beaten Spurs 1-0 away earlier in the campaign. Raheem Sterling could be a smart bet for first goal scorer. The Englishman has eight goals in his last seven games for club and country.

Tottenham will be hoping to make a mark in the first leg of this game, boosted by their arrival into their new home. They beat Crystal Palace in their stadium last time out, and have a full six days to recover since that fixture. Prior to that fixture, it was no wins in five league games, which has put their top-four place in jeopardy. Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate for his side to head to the Etihad, in two weeks time, with a lead, however slender that may be. In the previous round against Borussia Dortmund, Spurs blew away their German counterparts in the first leg which saw them through. Back-to-back clean sheets saw them win in Dortmund as well, but this will be a much tougher test.

Bjorn Kuipers is the referee for this fixture. The Dutchman has officiated seven top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 2.57 cards per game. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 40+ total points for this fixture.

Tottenham will be desperate to make this tricky for City and the atmosphere could play a huge roll in that. It’s likely to be a tight, tense affair, as most first legs are. As a result, I can see this playing out as a draw, which would still benefit City more.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City will be televised on BT Sport 3 and kicks off at 20:00.

Watford vs Wolves – Match Preview

Wolves vs Watford
Sunday 7th April 2019
The FA Cup, Semi-Final, Wembley Stadium

Live on BT Sport 2 – Kick-Off: 16:00 GMT

Watford vs Wolves: Two of the Premier League’s ‘best of the rest’ go head to head in the FA Cup semi-final with both sides looking to reach their first cup final this century.

Watford come into this game just one place and point behind Wolves in the Premier League, sat in eighth position. They come into this fixture after condemning Fulham to relegation in midweek with a 4-1 win at Vicarage Road. Abdoulaye Doucoure grabbed the opener in that match, his second goal in as many games. The French powerhouse has been crucial for Watford this season, catching the eye of a number of potential top-four suitors, as well as abroad. Will Hughes and Gerard Deolufeu have also been in fine form lately, Hughes was also on the scoresheet on Tuesday night, thumping in a stunning volley to make the score 2-1. The pitch at Wembley will suit Watford’s style of football massively, as it will Wolves, which should make for a very entertaining cup tie.

Wolves come into this match after yet another famous scalp at Molineux. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have now taken 13 points from top-six opposition this season, following their 2-1 win over Manchester United. It means that wolves have faced the Red Devils three times this season and haven’t lost, winning twice, once in the last round of this competition. Raul Jiminez and Diogo Jota’s partnership in attack has proved fruitful since their change to a 3-5-2 formation. The ‘little and large’ combo has seen the pair score in five of Wolves’ last seven league fixtures and they should lead the line once again on Sunday.

Michael Oliver is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 39 top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 34.4. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.

This game will be a really close call, with both sides very similar in ability and style of play. Both teams will suit the big Wembley pitch and it could go right down to penalties to decide the winner. In full-time, I’m going to go for a draw, but I think Wolves could sneak it in extra-time, or from 12 yards.

Watford vs Wolves will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 2 with kick off at 16:00 GMT.
