BATE Borisov vs Arsenal – Match Preview

BATE Borisov vs Arsenal
Thursday 4th October 2018, Borisov Arena
UEFA Europa League – Round of 32

BT Sport 2 – 17:55 GMT.

BATE Borisov vs Arsenal: Arsenal will be hoping to boost their chances of Champions League football with a strong first-leg performance against BATE Borisov in the Europa League round of 32.

The Gunners moved above Chelsea on goal difference at the weekend, after a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town. Alex Iwobi and Alexandre Lacazette grabbed the goals to ensure a third win in six games. It was Arsenal’s first away win in the Premier League since November, which underlines their recent struggles on the road. Saturday’s win did leave Unai Emery’s side without a clean sheet in four matches – they haven’t kept one away from home in the league all season. Although Arsenal are only one point behind Manchester United, it appears that the Europa League could be the best route into the Champions League for them and Chelsea. It worked for Manchester United two years ago and could be a good avenue for Emery to explore.

BATE fell to defeat against Arsenal twice in last season’s Europa League group stages. The Gunners came out 6-0 and 4-2 winners last time around. Former midfielder Aleksandr Hleb will be hoping to face his former club, whilst Bojan Dubajic, Nemanja Milic and Dmitri Bessmertny could be in line for competitive debuts after joining in January.

BATE have not played a competitive match since their last Europa League game against PAOK which saw them finish behind Chelsea in Group L. They have never reached beyond this stage of the competition, and a lack of domestic football between December and April will not boost their hopes of progressing through this tie.

Srdjan Jovanovic is the referee for this game. The Serbian official has an average booking points total of 45.1 based on his last 32 games. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 60+ total points for this game.

Arsenal are clearly strong favourites to win this tie. They appear to be the kings of ‘both teams to score’, and that would be my bet here. I’d definitely go with the Gunners, though – how many is the biggest question.

BATE Borisov vs Arsenal will be televised on BT Sport 2 and kicks off at the slightly earlier time of 17:55.

Prediction: BATE Borisov 1-3 Arsenal

– The visitors are far too strong a side. Home advantage shouldn’t play a factor.

Manchester United vs Paris Saint Germain – Match Preview

Manchester United vs Paris Saint-Germain
Wednesday 12th December 2018, Old Trafford
UEFA Champions League – Round of 16

BT Sport 2 – 20:00 GMT

Man Utd vs PSG: Manchester United host PSG in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout match in what is being billed as the ‘tie of the round’.

Manchester United head into this match in high spirits after another morale-boosting win at the weekend. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men came away with a confident 3-0 win against Fulham. Solskjaer made several changes for that match, resting Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard for this crucial fixture. Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial were the standout performers at Craven Cottage and were both on the scoresheet. Martial, in particular, was a livewire throughout and will be vying for starting spot on Tuesday night. That was their 10th win from their last 11 matches, which will give United the belief they can overturn the French champions.

PSG are without several key men for this match. Two of their attacking trio are missing, with Neymar and Edison Cavani out through injury. Kylian Mbappe will likely lead the line, with former United man Angel Di Maria in support. With Marco Verratti also a major doubt, PSG will be hoping to avoid a poor result, that would leave them out of the tie. Similarly to United, PSG have won nine of their last 11 games in all competitions. Their cup defeat to Guingamp and Lyon are their only blips, as they sit ten points clear in Ligue 1, with two games in hand.

Danielle Orsato is the referee for this game. The Italian official has averaged six cards per game in Serie A, across 12 league games. That is the third highest in that division. As a result, I would advise a maximum of 60+ total booking points for this fixture.

This game will be Solskjaer’s toughest time in charge of United. They will be confident going into it, but it will be tough to keep a clean sheet. I think they’ll edge this game and take a lead to the Parc des Princes.

West Bromwich Albion vs Nottingham Forest will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 2 with kick off at 20:00 GMT.

West Bromwich Albion vs Nottingham Forest – Match Preview

West Bromwich Albion vs Nottingham Forest
Tuesday 11th February 2019
The Championship, The Hawthorns

Sky Sports Main Event – Kick-Off: 20:00pm

WBA vs Forest: West Brom will be hoping to build on their win at the weekend and close the gap to the automatic promotion places when they host Forest at the Hawthorns.

The Albion came away with a 1-0 win over Stoke at the weekend. Dwight Gayle scored the winner, his 16th goal of the season as the Baggies registered a third clean sheet in five games. The result left them fourth in the table, five points off the automatic promotion places, with a game in hand. Darren Moore’s side have only won three of their last eight games in all competitions, which is a run they desperately need to improve. Despite that run, they still have a major shot at automatic promotion. They are without a win in their last three home games, which needs to be addressed if they are to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Forest’s promotion push was given a timely boost at the weekend with a 2-1 win over Brentford. The result was Martin O’Neill’s second win in four games. It leaves them ninth in the table, five points behind sixth-placed Bristol City, having played a game extra. Lewis Grabban was recalled to the against the Bees and netted his 16th of the campaign. The 31-year-old needs to play a crucial role between now and the end of the season if they’re to break into the play-offs. On the road, Forest have lost their four and haven’t tasted victory in seven matches.

Lee Mason is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 2 second-tier matches this season, having spent most of his season in the Premier League. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 10. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 30+ total points for this fixture.

West Brom side will be buoyed a win and a clean sheet at the weekend but need to address their home form. Forest are sick travellers and therefore I think that will see the hosts through.

West Bromwich Albion vs Nottingham Forest will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event with kick off at 20:00 GMT.
