Manchester United vs Manchester City – Match Preview

Manchester United vs Manchester City
Wednesday 24th April
The Premier League, Old Trafford
Sky Sports Premier League – 20:00 BST

Manchester United vs Manchester City: Manchester City can move back to the top of the Premier League table with three points against their arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The champions will finally play their game in hand against their nearest enemy. Three points are a must for Pep Guardiola’s side to ensure they return to the league’s summit with only three games to play. City weren’t at their best on Saturday against Tottenham but came out 1-0 winners. That was an important win for the men in blue after their disappointment in the Champions League. With their fate in their own hands, this Manchester derby has so much importance if they’re to retain their crown.

With Kevin De Bruyne likely to miss the remainder of the season, it will be interesting to see if Guardiola sticks with Phil Foden in midfield, or opts for a more senior player. The Englishman scored his first Premier League goal against Spurs and didn’t look out of places amongst City’s other superstars. Fernandinho and Leroy Sane will both also be eying a starting birth, which could see Bernardo Silva move inside to accommodate the German.

Manchester United will be licking their wounds after getting hammered at Goodison Park. It was an embarrassing day the Red Devils as Everton ran out 4-0 winners. Several members of the squad are playing for their futures at Old Trafford, with a much-needed overhaul set to take place in the summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will use games like this to determine who is worthy of a place in his squad and who is out of their depth. Given the nature of Sunday’s defeat, there is no doubt United will do everything to try and restore pride against their noisy neighbours. Any talk of them taking it easy to prevent Liverpool winning the league is nonsensical and something Solskjaer won’t stand for.

Andre Marriner is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 37 top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 30.9. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.

City have to win this game to keep the pressure up on Liverpool. Neither side are blinking in the most dramatic title race in seven years, making every fixture a must win. United will be embarrassed after Sunday’s showing and will want to make amends. I think City’s better quality sees them edge this game but it should be a relatively tight affair.

Manchester United vs Manchester City will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event with kick off at 20:00 BST.

Tottenham vs Brighton – Match Preview

Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton and Hove Albion
Tuesday 23rd April 2019
FA Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Sky Sports Premier League – 19:45 BST

Tottenham vs Brighton: Tottenham will be hoping to bounce back from their weekend defeat and establish their place in the Premier League top four when they take on relegation-threatened Brighton.

Spurs went down 1-0 away to Manchester City at the weekend, although they could have caused another upset against the champions. Three days on from their Champions League classic, Tottenham almost hit Pep Guardiola’s side on the break again but were this time thwarted by an in-form Ederson. The silver lining for Mauricio Pochettino’s team was that they were not the only side to drop points this weekend. Arsenal and Manchester United were both humbled, whilst Chelsea drew with Burnley at home, making it a good weekend for Spurs.

As it stands, they remain third in the table with their destiny in their own hands. They only have a one-point lead over Arsenal, however, having played the same numbers of games, so they can’t afford any more slip-ups in their remaining four games. Tottenham have won every game so far in their new stadium (3) and are yet to concede a goal.

Brighton stopped the rot at Wolves on Saturday with a 0-0 draw. That brought to a five-game losing run to an end, at just the right time. Chris Hughton’s side have slipped alarmingly down the table and are now only three points above Cardiff City, although they do have a far superior goal difference. Gals have been the issue for the Seagulls. They have become too reliant on Glenn Murray and the Englishman hasn’t scored in his last seven games. Only Huddersfield Town and Cardiff have scored fewer goals than Hughton’s side this season.

Chris Kavanagh is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 31 top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 34.8. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.

This game should be a fairly straight forward one. Although they lost at the weekend, Tottenham are in good form and have looked very strong in their new home. Brighton can’t score, or win, for toffee, especially on the road. Home win.

Tottenham vs Brighton will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Football with kick off at 19:45 BST.

Chelsea vs Burnley – Match Preview

Chelsea vs Burnley
Monday 22nd April
FA Premier League, Stamford Bridge
Sky Sports Premier League – 20:00 BST

Chelsea vs Burnley: Chelsea will be looking to reignite their push for a top-four finish after securing their place in the Europa League semi-final when they host Burnley on Monday night.

Maurizio Sarri’s side secured their spot in the last four with a 4-3 win over Slavia Prague. After racing into a 4-1 lead at the break, the Blues almost threw away their lead after conceding two quick-fire second-half goals. Pedro’s brace will have put him in contention for a starting spot against the Clarets, whilst Eden Hazard should start after being replaced with an hour gone. Chelsea head into this tie fifth in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Arsenal but they have played a game extra. That means their remaining four fixtures are must-win if they’re to have any hope of securing Champions League football through the league. With a crucial meeting against Manchester United on the horizon too, it’s a crucial run of games for the Blues.

Burnley have all-but secured their Premier League status for another year after beating Cardiff last weekend. Chris Woods’ brace lifted Sean Dyche’s side up to 14th in the table, eight points above the bottom three. The Clarets have won their last three games in all competitions, which is a good job with Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton and Arsenal to come in their final four matches. On the Road, they have lost three of their last six, winning two and drawing one. Dwight McNeil has really caught the eye this season, displacing Johann Gudmundsson from the side. The Clarets youngster has added a much-needed spark in wide areas, supplying great service for Woods and Ashley Barnes.

Kevin Friend is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 36 top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 40. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.

Chelsea are good at home and don’t often slip-up against the smaller sides. Burnley are in good form but that has mainly come at Turf Moor. As a result, I’m going to back the hosts in this one.

Chelsea vs Burnley will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Premier League with kick off at 20:00 BST.
