Watford vs Crystal Palace
Saturday 16th March 2019
The FA Cup, Quarter-Final, Vicarage Road
Live on BT Sport 1 – Kick-Off: 12:15 GMT
Watford vs Crystal Palace: Watford host Crystal Palace in all-Premier League affair as both sides look to secure a place in the last four of the FA Cup.
The Hornets come into this game in fantastic form, despite a 3-1 reverse at Manchester City last weekend. Raheem Sterling’s controversial opener was then followed up with another double to complete a hat-trick. Watford boss Javi Gracia made the controversial decision to make seven changes for that game, with this fixture in mind. So often we see managers making wholesale changes in the FA Cup, it was refreshing to see a mid-table manager do things the other way around. Watford have little more to play for in the league, so focusing on this competition makes perfect sense. With a day at Wembley up for grabs, this is a huge chance for them to some history for their fans. They’re unbeaten in four games at Vicarage Road and were victorious the last time these two met in January – a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.
Palace have been suffering from a lack of consistency in recent weeks. After beating Burnley impressively a fortnight ago, the Eagles were then outed 2-1 by their close rivals Brighton and Hove Albion. Palace have been a much stronger side on their travels recently, which bodes well for this clash. They are unbeaten in their last four away games, winning three of those. Michy Batshuayi is now coming into the fore after finding his feet at his new club. The Belgian frontman has two goals in his last four games. It’s five league games without a clean sheet for Palace, however, which may be a concern for Roy Hodgson. Similarly, Watford are four without a shut out, which should make for an open, exciting spectacle. Palace reached the FA Cup final in 2016 and their fans would love another opportunity to make it to Wembley.
Kevin Friend is the referee for this fixture. The Englishman has officiated 33 top-flight matches this season. In that time, he has accumulated an average booking points total of 38.9. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.
Both of these will sense this a real opportunity to reach Wembley, with most of the big guns out of the competition. Watford’s form, particularly at home, has been great recently. As a result, they are my tip to reach the last four.
Watford vs Crystal Palace will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 1 with kick-off at 12:15 GMT.

Bayern Munich vs Liverpool – Match Preview
Bayern Munich vs Liverpool
Wednesday 13th March 2019, Allianz Arena
UEFA Champions League – Round of 16
BT Sport 2 – 20:00 GMT
Bayern Munich vs Liverpool: Last year’s finalists Liverpool head to the Allianz Arena hoping to cause an upset against Bayern Munich in a finely-poised knockout tie.
The Reds have dipped in form recently, which has allowed Manchester City to steal the march on them in the race for the title. It’s been a tough run for Liverpool, who have dropped six points in their last six games. They held a seven-point cushion in December but the pressure seems to have told. They were back to winning ways on Sunday, though, battling back from behind to beat Burnley 4-2. It was a much-needed brace for the returning Roberto Firmino, making his first start in a fortnight after injury. Sadio Mane also continued his fine form with a double, taking his tally for the season to 17. If Jurgen Klopp’s side are to get any joy in Germany, they will need their front three to be on the ball. If they can roll back a year to the swift counter-attacking side we saw last season, they could cause Bayern some real issues on the break.
Bayern will be hoping to make the most of home advantage, with the score at 0-0. Since that draw, Niko Kovac’s side have won all three of their league games, scoring 12 times and conceding once. Those results have seen them recover their deficit in the Bundesliga title race, much as City have in England. Robert Lewandowski notched a brace in their 6-0 mauling of Wolfsburg on Saturday. The Pole has four goals in his last two games and 29 for the season. In this vein of form, he is one of the best number nine’s in Europe, so Liverpool will have to be on guard against him. The battle between Lewandowski and Virgil van Dijk could well decide this tie.
Daniele Orsato is the referee for this game. The Italian official plies his trade in Serie A. He has averaged 5.77 cards per game, across 14 league matches this season. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 60+ booking points, for this fixture.
This is such a tough game to call. My gut is telling me that Liverpool’s pace on the break could be a defining factor, as Bayern will try and dominate possession. This game could go either way, but I’m going to back the Reds on away goals.
Bayern Munich vs Liverpool will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 2 with kick off at 20:00 GMT.

Manchester City vs Schalke – Match Preview
Manchester City vs Schalke
Wednesday 12th March 2019, Etihad Stadium
UEFA Champions League – Round of 16
BT Sport 2 – 20:00 GMT
Manchester City vs Schalke: Manchester City will be hoping to make the most of home advantage as they welcome Schalke for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout tie.
The Citizens are huge favourites for this tie, especially after beating Schalke 3-2 in Germany three weeks ago, with ten men. Raheem Sterling’s last-minute winner has set Pep Guardiola’s men nicely for this tie. They know that the visitors have to score at least twice, without reply, to go through to the next round. City, themselves, are in fantastic form. They beat Watford 3-1 at the weekend, with the Englishman bagging a hat-trick. That treble has stoked talks for Sterling to win the ‘PFA player of the year’ award. With 20 goals in all competitions and countless assists, there are few matching his numbers this season. City have won their last nine home matches, in all competitions. They’ve only lost once at the Etihad in the Champions League too, which came on matchday one against Lyon.
Although they had a man advantage, Schalke showed last week that they can, on their day, match most sides in Europe. They have an uphill task as they bid to pull off a remarkable comeback, away at the champions of England. However, after scoring twice in Germany, they will feel confident they can cause City’s defence some problems. The main issue will be keeping the ball out, at the other end. The German outfit are without a win in eight games in all competitions, losing seven of those. Given their form and City’s, this would be one of the greatest feats in the competition’s history, if they were to win.
Clément Turpin is the referee for this game. The French official plies his trade in Ligue Un. He has averaged 3.21 cards per game, across 14 league matches this season. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ booking points, for this fixture.
Manchester City vs Schalke will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 2 with kick-off at 20:00 GMT.
The home team have been relentless in recent weeks. Combine that with Schalke’s abysmal form and City’s lead, there is only one winner.
