Horse Racing Preview – Southwell – 16th April 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Southwell with two selections from the card. With a few jump meetings taking place on home and Irish soil I have elected to stay with the all-weather meeting at Southwell. There looks some possible each way shouts on the card in what looks an average event.

14.15 Southwell – Robins Milestone Celebration Handicap (8f)

A couple of nice priced entries have caught my eye in this race in Bill Turners Crucial Moment and an up and coming trainer in George Scott who saddles Seeking Attention.

The latter I can relate to when I was a kid, however Seeking Attention  has been competing around maidens and will make her handicap debut. She has been double figures on all her three runs to date and did compete over a mile when finishing eighth in a competitive contest.

She should be more suited back up to the mile this afternoon and can give a good account of herself with a good pilot on board in Oisin Murphy. The second one is Bill Turners Crucial Moment, son of Pivotal who has a mixed bag of turf and all weather runs to his name did not run badly when over the Mile around Kempton in a 0-55 handicap.

He was not beaten that far and should come on for the run like all Bill Turners runners do and I am looking to dutch the pair. But as I have to put the one up against the field I will put up my first inkling which was CRUCIAL MOMENT as an each way bet, but I would not put you off having a small dabble on Seeking Attention if money comes for her.

CRUCIAL MOMENT :1pt each way @ 9/1 (BOG)

15.20 Southwell – David’s Dash Handicap (5f)

Roger Fells Zylan should have exploited his current mark four days ago when he was fancied strongly to do so finishing third under today’s pilot. He returns back on to the all-weather this afternoon and was a winner at Southwell last time in the sand when just holding on, the conditions that day were completely different with the course riding on the slow side.

His last win came over a mile when he was trained by Johnny Murtagh and his record here when the course has ridden on the fast side of standard has not been that convincing.  I am willing to take him on this time around. Daniel Loughnanes Big Amigo also won on a slower surface on the all-weather two runs back at Southwell. Even though he has won on standard in his career these have come over 6f and could be vulnerable over 5f.

This brings me in to the selection in INDIAN TINKER for Robert Cowell. To be fair he is not that exposed on the all-weather running just the four times in better company which included runner up in a class 0-85 contest at Southwell. He’s not the easiest to win with by all means and would have to go back two and a half years since his last success. He drops two grades this afternoon and bringing his form on sand back he is a live contender.

INDIAN TINKER : 1pt each way @ 6/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview

Here is our horse racing preview for Saturday 15th April 2017 across UK and Ireland Horse Racing today, unit stakes advised upon each selection.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 15th April 2017 – Carlisle 1.45pm -toteplacepot Novices’ Hurdle

Skipthescales – 11/4 – 1pt stake (EW)

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 15th April 2017 – Cork -2.10pm – Most Stylish Easter Sunday Handicap

Make It Hurrah – 10/3 – 2pt stake (EW)

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 15th April – Newton Abbot 2.30pm – Racing Partnership Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle

Little Miss Poet – 5/4 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 15th April 2017 – Musselburgh 3pm – totepoolliveinfo.com Royal Mile Handicap

Society Red – 10/1 – 1pt stake (EW)

Notes

Little Miss Poet has been placed twice since winning at Market Rasen. The daughter of Yeats looks the best of the field that lacks real depth with Richard Johnson on board for Phillip Hobbs.

Make It Hurrah is having its 6th start, winning his last in a handicap on heavy ground comfortably. A stamina test would suit and the he is lightly raced and progressing so should be the one to beat.

Horse Racing Preview – Haydock – 15th April 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from one meeting, Haydock. Some near misses yesterday, and once more it’s the seconditis settling in along with each way money going astray by just under a length. This game is very frustrating with the national hunt winding down and the flat just starting to pick up gradually. So, what is on offer from eight race meetings this afternoon.

If I have to be honest, the entire cards are not that enticing and I have looked over the races and found one race worth getting involved with.

16.20 Haydock Park  – Challenger Stayers Series Final Handicap Hurdle

Probably the most competitive race on the card or even the entire day. There are four that stand out in the race in Fortunate George. Sam Red, Cooking Fat and Behind Time.

Fortunate George representing Emma Lavelle got off the mark at the fourth time of asking for 2017 when winning in good style in a 0-135 handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter last month. His consistency was well deserved to record his second career win.

With his 6lb rise and quicker ground I do feel he will find one or two too good for him here. Sam Red is still looking for his first success since moving from Alan Fleming’s yard, with reasonable efforts over further index’s which has seen two runners up spots this year at Wetherby & Bangor. This is a new trip this afternoon and again he looks vulnerable off his current mark despite dropping back slightly in trip.

Behind Time bounced back to take a good handicap contest at Cheltenham back in November over 21f, then trainer Harry Fry stepped him up to 24f & 23f respectively which he showed no joy. He drops back slightly in trip to 22.8f this afternoon and even though his last two runs have been a subject of a no show he is still unexposed against some of these that have been out of form.

This brings me in to today’s only selection in Diane Sayer’s Cooking Fat who really caught my eye when winning at Catterick in a 0-125 hurdle. The step up to 25.3f really showed his staying ability last time, slight concern is will this be on the sharp side for him, he has the capability to really get involved in this sizeable pot on offer. Will Kennedy takes over from Brian Hughes this afternoon, he looks solid value in the race.

COOKING FAT : 2pts each way @ 9/1 (BOG)

Newcastle Utd vs Leeds Utd – Match Preview – Friday 14th April 2017
SkyBet Championship, St James’s Park, Newcastle

The Championship season is nearing to a close and it’s all still to play for. Promotion is not yet decided and 2nd plays 5th as two sides chasing just that in Newcastle United and Leeds United do battle at St James’ Park on Good Friday.

Rafa Benitez’s men have been leading the pack (along with Brighton) all campaign and are nearing the finishing line for automatic promotion back to the Premier League immediately after their relegation last year.

Leeds are aiming for the play-offs and their fantastic season sees them 5 points ahead of 7th placed Fulham with 5 games to go and the best goal difference in the play-off positions. They should see the job through but The Championship’s unpredictably means nothing is ever guaranteed. A win at St James’ would almost solidify Leeds’ lay-off spot.

Team News –

Jack Colback and Isaac Hayden are both injury doubts for Newcastle. Photo Credit: Chronicle Live

Dwight Gayle’s omission is the biggest talking point – the Championship’s second highest scorer this season with 22 goals is set to miss out after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

Jack Colback (virus) and Isaac Hayden (ankle) are both also doubts.

Goalkeeper Marco Silvestri’s knee surgery could potentially see him out for the rest of the season, seeing young Peacock-Farrell take his place on the bench. Tyler Denton (knee) is still ruled out and Liam Cooper will be serving the third of his 6-game ban.

The better news for Leeds fans is that they could see Liam Bridcutt and Hadi Sacko returning back to the side.

Players to Watch –

Danger Men: Chris Wood (Leeds) & Jonjo Shelvey (photographed from his Swansea days now at Newcastle).         Photo Credit: Mirror Newspaper

Jonjo Shelvey has been key to most of Newcastle’s success this campaign, orchestrating moves and running the centre of midfield in most games. He has chipped in with 5 goals and 8 assists and is unquestionably capable of moments of pure magic; as shown by his wonderful free-kick against Brighton and his 25-yard strike against QPR both curled into the top corner, to name a couple.

There is no doubting who Leeds’ dangerman is. Chris Wood has been in stunning form this season for The Whites – no Championship player has scored more than the New Zealand vice-captain with a wonderful 24 goals so far. Alongside his 3 assists the 25-year old has directly contributed to a massive 49% of Leeds’ goals in the league this year. Wood was recently named in the Football League Team of the Season – highlighting his importance and value.

Summary –

Both teams have identical form over the last 5 (2W, 1D, 2L) and 10 matches (5W, 3D, 2L).
Leeds have only won once in their last 9 league meetings with Newcastle, losing 7 and drawing the other so will be fiercely looking to improve that statistic.

Two of England’s sleeping giants, a win for either could be a catalyst for promotion back to the Premier League in what both clubs hope will be the beginning of a much desired resurrection back to former glories.

Suggested Tips:

Muffri’ha – 11/8 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 14th April 2017 -Lingfield 3.40pm – Sunbets All-weather Mile Championships Conditions Stakes

Ennaadd – 6/4 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 14th April – Lingfield 4.40pm – Betway Easter Classic All-weather Middle Distance Championships Conditions Stakes

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 13th April 2017 – Newcastle 4.55pm -Betway Maiden Stakes (Plus 10)

Poets Reward – Evens – 3pt stake

Notes

Ennaadd is on a winning streak of 4 in a row and the Roger Varian’s colt has a great chance to add to the tally. Coming from stall 2 could provide traffic problems but I believe that wont be an issue coming into the straight and though the colt looks to want further, this competitive conditional’s stake race should be coming to Roger Varian and Ennaadd.

Horse Racing Preview – Bath – 14th April 2017

Our horse racing preview comes from Bath today with 3 selections across the card. Well its Easter bank holiday and a feast of racing taking place over the next few days, but first things first we have a poor level of racing this afternoon with two all-weather meetings taking place, at least we back on the turf with a meeting at Bath.

14.30 Bath – Betway Maiden Stakes (5.7f)

Do not get discouraged with all these maiden’s taking place which is part and parcel of everyday racing. My first selection comes from a trainer that won the 2014 renewal of this race with Ashkari and is represented here with Glacier Point who had three efforts as a juvenile with her best run coming against her own sex when finishing third at Haydock park.

The runner up form that race went on to win the Listed Doncaster Stakes when beating Tomily who has won a Conditions Stakes this year along with a good third in a hot Conditions last month. Her fourth on her return to Haydock Park saw her finish behind the likes of Classical Times who went on to finish fifth in the Listed Bosra Sham Stakes.

The main threat looks to come from Owen Burrows unexposed gelding Kowaiyess who ran a good second on his re-appearance when two lengths behind Midnightly with Three C’s back in fourth well beaten, the latter mentioned runs earlier on the card. He has the benefit of running here at Bath last season and Jockey booking Fran Berry is eye catching. He was seen finishing a short head to Willie Haggas’s Tschierschen who did not really explode on to the scene thereafter only putting up a rating of 74. The third and fourth have both won this year, so really sets the standard on paper

GLACIER POINT : 1.5pt win @ 9/4 (BOG)

15.30 Bath – Bathwick Tyres Handicap (0-100) (11.7f)

A very good class 2 handicap to get involved in, we start from top to bottom and do a full preview of all the runners to hand. Mark Johnston is treble handed here with Permian, Sofia’s Rock and Mister Manduro. The former will have to give a stone plus away to all competitors, the son of Teofilo won three of his six runs as a juvenile, but on paper his Windsor win did not mount up to much, beating low graded individuals and then contended a three runner event at Ripon when just holding on as an odds on shot.

His last run came in the Listed Zetland Stakes where he finished a close third behind Cunco who went on to finish seventh in the Group 1 Saint-Cloud, the winner that day Coronet is likely to be worth following this year and gets entries in the Group 1 Epsom Oaks and Irish equivalent.

Johnston has 2 other runners in Sofia’s Rock & Mister Manduro. The latter got off the mark at the third attempt on the all-weather at Chelmsford when beating an average bunch. His only turf run came at Sandown on debut when finishing third to The Grape Escape who went on to finish mid field in the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes. Sofia’s Rock looks the yards first string on jockey bookings this afternoon. He got off the mark at the fourth attempt when stepping up to 9f at Redcar, the form is starting to unfold with the only runner from that race coming out on the all-weather to win eight days ago. Sofia’a Rock steps up in trip once more, being by Rock of Gibraltar out of Princess Sofia through Pennekamp, this would probably stretch his stamina to the maximum this afternoon.

Richard Hannon has an art of bringing horses on after a long layoff and saddles Hushood who came on from his Newbury debut to win over 8f at Chepstow, the runner up went on to win two races, one here at Bath over 8f and one on the all-weather.

His final run as a juvenile saw him finish fourth at Ayr in a Novice Stakes, it was not the hottest of races to really write home about, but respect must be given to the stable alone. Tony Carroll has the outsider of the field here In Poetic Force, being the most experienced in the field his career stands at 5-12 with all those wins coming on the all-weather.

His best turf run came at Ascot last July when finishing sixth, the runner up Good Omen was beaten by Hushood last year. 3/4 on the all-weather in 2017, that came to a sudden halt when beaten into third at Chelmsford in a 0-95 handicap, beaten under three lengths and coming into this off the same mark of 84, realistically he would have to step up again, but his close run last time when behind horses that were rated 10lb his superior, you would of thought he will be in there pitching this afternoon.

Andrew Balding’s Atkinson’s Grimshaw finished third over 10.2f around here as a juvenile, but that was his last run of the 2016 campaign. He got his transition off to a flyer when winning on season’s debut on the all-weather when winning over 9.5f when beating Blushing Red who franked that form at Newcastle last month. As for being the winner of this race he would have to step up in the region of 14lb.

Emenem is another that has had good success on the all-weather notching up 3-5 which included a win back in January when fending off 75&78 rated horses. Commanding a mark of 74 he is another that would have to step up in the region of around 9lb to really figure this afternoon. Charles Hills is having more success on the all-weather from his past twenty runners, with one turf winner the yard still look behind with their transition horses. He still is though well represented here with Doctor Bartolo who got off the mark at Newcastle on the all-weather at the fourth attempt.

The fourth Vantage Point franked the form last month and the top three from the race have run well again. Doctor Bartolo makes his handicap debut this afternoon off 81, which could be a bit harsh, but never less he is an interesting contender in this and I would like to think on paper he is the one to beat under Kieran O’Neill who surprisingly enough does not ride out here for Hannon which could be a tip in its self.

We do not get the chance to see Royston Ffrench in the saddle on European soil too often, who rides out on Mister Manduro, it is interesting to see who is on the ballet front runner in this for the Johnston team, looking at the odds and on board pilots, Sofia’s Rock would be the obvious choice but I am willing to stick with his stable-mate Mister Manduro, this trip looks right up his street, the sire was very versatile on good/good to firm ground and looks a back-able price around 5/1, even each way is a free bet.

MISTER MANDURO : 2pts each way @ 5/1 (BOG)

16.00 Bath – Bathwick Tyres Conditions Stake (5.7f)

Another good looking contest which should see William Muir’s Willytheconqueror go very close off his current mark of around 106. It’s been a long time since visiting Bath, in fact all the way back in 2015 when winning over course and distance around the Novice ranks. His last win though came around this time last year when winning off a mark of 90 in a 0-100 handicap, since that day he has found things a little tough when competing around pattern and Listed company and was only just denied at Beverley in the Listed Bullet Sprint Stakes, back in third that day to a nose was Muthmir who was giving two pound to him at the weights.

His run in the Listed Rous Stakes when finishing fourth at Ascot saw him in front of the likes of Cathedral City Handicap winner Kimberella, who has gone on to fulfil his promise when winning at Lingfield last month. At the weights Muthmir has a strong advantage of reversing the selections form. Last win came at Goodwood of 2015 when landing the Group 3 King George Stakes in a blanket finish which saw the top five showing plenty of speed.

WILLYTHECONQUEROR : 1pt each way @ 13/2 (BOG)

Notes

Son Of The Stars won a Maiden last year at Kempton when winning by 3 1/4 lengths on debut and  looks good enough to win this on Handicap debut for Richard Hannon and Ryan Moore who saddles the colt. The danger in the field looks to be Prosper for Roger Varian.

Horse Racing Preview – Chelmsford and Wetherby – 13th April 2017

Our horse racing preview on the 13th April 2017 comes from 2 meetings, Chelmsford and Wetherby with selections from both meetings.

14.00 Wetherby – Watch Racing UK in Glorious HD Juvenile Maiden Hurdle (16f)

This should be an opportunity for Dan Skelton’s new recruit to get off the mark at the fourth attempt over hurdles. The ex-Prendergast in-mate is 0-18 in all codes, but his hurdle form is something worth noting considering he was fourth to Lord Justice at Ballinrobe two runs back. He was just four lengths off the winner who has gone on to finish behind the likes of Mega Fortune and Cliffs of dover in the Grade 2 Summit Juvenile Hurdle, that winner has an estimated hurdle rating of 154, so really Raven’s Hill should be going very close.

Dangers for me looks to come from Jamie Snowden’s Lord Topper who equipped himself smartly at Huntingdon on his hurdling bow finishing behind two improving types in Head High and Spiritual Lady. Others are Warren Greatrex’s Bobs Boy who finished twenty-two lengths behind Grade 2 Adonis Juvenile Hurdle winner Master Blueyes who went on to finish tenth in the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham last month. The runner up Long Call ran in this years Fred Winter when finishing tenth, a horse that was in front of him was Zig Zag who has a form line through Cliffs of Dover from their Grade 2 encounter at Doncaster, which gives Raven’s Hill a bigger boost.

RAVENS HILL : 2pt Win @ 3/1 (BOG)

14.30 Wetherby – racinguk.com/daypass Selling Hurdle (19.7f)

Not the greatest of sellers, but what stands out is Aidan Coleman going to ride out for Tim Vaughan om Ballyrock. The eleven-year-old had been on a serious decline since late last year when having a rating of 129 around the Chase sphere. He has looked a right problem to train, but regardless, his form is not that bad considering he won a 0-120 Handicap Chase back in October at Southwell when thrashing his opposition. That was his first recorded win for five years, ouch you might say but his fifth in a 0-130 chase before Christmas and his sixteen lengths behind Late Shipment in a 0-120 Chase at Huntingdon has shown that he could be well in here.

Mark Walford’s Mr Snoozy will have to concede weight all round here, he has had the benefit of three runs this year which saw him win at Sedgefield in a seller over 19.9f in good fashion, he was retained that day by the trainer, but they are keen to sell him after he finished runner up in a seller here over 21.3f when behind Newstart who joined Brian Ellison’s yard. The front pair were a long way clear that day and he could get solid compensation this afternoon.

Brian Ellison is double handed here which once more see’s Newstart in the field along with another with chances in Mister Springsprong. The former is already back in a seller after what looked a disappointing run at Market Rasen when finishing fifth, so on that evidence his main string looks Mister Springsprong who was outclassed in a 0-135 handicap recently at Gosforth park when behind the likes of Gold Opera who has won again. On paper has been competing in better quality fields, but at 5/4 in the market I want to take him on.

BALLYROCK : 2pt Win @ 3/1 (BOG)

15.00 Wetherby – Racing UK Day Pass Just £10 Handicap Chase (15.2f)

Michael Easterby’s Lightening Rod seems to find nothing when push comes to shove as he has shown on his last two starts. You would have to go back all the way to 2014 with his 0-125 hurdle success here at Wetherby over 16.5f. It has been a long time and 0-15 around both codes he is becoming very frustrating to win with. His run here last time over course and distance saw him find nothing when beaten five lengths to Plaisir D’Amour who went on to win again at Newbury, but then was beaten off a double penalty. The fourth, Chestnut Ben also franked that Wetherby form, but is another that has suffered at the hands of the handicapper.

Nine Alters represents Ann Hamilton, and realistically I thought should be the outright fav in this over Lightening Rod. He has been running well in defeat and the eight year olds four runs this season has seen him finished runner up at Catterick and Kelso. This is a big drop in class from his second at Catterick in a 0-130 handicap chase, though he has to head the weights which could find him vulnerable once more.

This brings me on to the selection in Honourable Gent, Rose Dobbin’s chasers have been returning a profit over the past three weeks, this is the first time we have seen her entry here for over a year and a half when finishing runner up in a 0-110 handicap hurdle. He won a 0-125 Chase last May and this starting point in a 0-120 off a mark of 104, he certainly can get involved this afternoon under Craig Nichols.

HONOURABLE GENT : 1pt each way @ 6/1 (BOG)

14.10 Chelmsford – Bet toteplacepot at totesport,com Handicap (14f)

William Knight’s yard have hit the ground running and their entry here is The Juggler who is making his seasonal debut. His last run came back in November when second behind Mister Marchwood at Kempton over 12f. He has probably been crying out for a stiff test of stamina and will definitely get it here at the Essex track.

Regal Gait is the least exposed in the field and both of his runs this year have resulted in being beaten in to second place. His first run came over hurdles when a very good second to Most Celebrated of Neil Mulholland’s. The third Mister Globetrotter franked the form last month when winning a 0-60 handicap at Wolverhampton. His second and last run came again over hurdles when beaten at Stratford in a race he was fancied to win. With an all-weather win under his belt over just shy of today’s index here at the Essex track and only 5lb up on that winning mark, he looks the one to beat this afternoon.

REGAL GAIT : 2pt Win @ 13/8 (BOG)

15.10 Chelmsford -Bet toteplacepot at totesport.com Maiden Fillies Stakes (10f)

The two Mark Johnston pair will be of interest as to who gets the nod to dictate matters from the outset. Looking over the pedigrees, Curlew River looks the obvious one to do the donkey work if this is obviously the trainers instructions. She will be partnered by Silvestre de Sousa this afternoon and the step up in trip just might be on the tough side being by Casamento whom I always thought was better suited over 8f. Joe Fanning is also a jockey that if he feels he can steal a lead he will do so, looking at the market he comes into this as the favourite,

She probably holds that respect after her good second here seven days ago at Chelmsford when behind the smart Interweave of Sir Michael Stoute’s. On paper, she is looking for a step up in trip and the one to beat in this intriguing fillies contest. Best of the rest looks to come from Pure Shores of Charlie Appleby who had just the one juvenile run when finishing runner up here at Chelmsford over 7f.

If we take out the winner who was probably just having her 3 minutes of fame, the runner up is the one that I want to pin point the form around. Cercle D’Or franked the form instantly when winning at Lingfield. The winner could also be a smart three year old once she gets on the track this season. But even though this is a good maiden to take on board I feel that Joe Fanning has got it spot on here when he rides Fiendish.

FIENDISH : 3pt Win @ 11/8 (BOG)

Mori Yoshinari – 11/4 – 3pt stake

Notes

Mori Yoshinari won a maiden on his debut and the 2nd in that race has gone on to win by a wide margin. Richard Hannon is having a good run with his horses in recent weeks and with Ryan Moore on board, the colt should be able to win this.

Joey’s Destiny drops in class here having been running in Class 3 events on the all weather. The gelding has been on a long losing streak but should be able to outclass his rivals today if able to reproduce the 2nd to Intransigent in January. Fingals Cave could be the danger though concedes 3lb today.

Horse Racing Preview – Catterick, Nottingham and Fontwell – 12th April 2017

Our horse racing preview on the 12th April 2017 comes from 3 meetings, Catterick, Nottingham and Fontwell with 5 selections across the cards.

14.00 Catterick – Flat Season Starts Today Handicap (5f)  (0-60)

I must be insane to get involved in this type of low graded handicaps at the beginning of the season, but one has stood out for me in the race in the Daniel Kubler trained filly Dixies Double in today’s horse racing preview.  She has been competing on the all-weather this year and she has shown no signs that a win will be imminent, but she did win her maiden on turf at Lingfield as a juvenile when beating Acertwo who went on to win three all-weather contests at the backend of last season and commands a rating currently of 79. The daughter of Multiplex looks very exposed, but as do many of these in the race and I would like to think now returning to turf with a drop of 10lb on last years mark, she for me has to come Into the equation, only negative is that she is badly drawn in stall 13.

Drawn beside her is the Frankel filly Wishing Time, trained by leading Northern trainer David O’Meara. She has to be feared alone from her pedigree status. With three runs on the all-weather this year she should be good enough to exploit her current mark of 58 now coming into handicap company for the first time. Her third at Wolverhampton twelve days ago has seen her progress nicely and she is not exposed as most in this race. Best of the rest looks to come in Karen Tutty’s Jorvik Prince who won on the all-weather last year at Chelmsford when fending off 69 rated Ninety Years Young who has not found any form since being stepped up in trip.

DIXIES DOUBLE : 1pt each way @ 11/1 (BOG)

14.30 Catterick – Nags Head Supports Catterick Champions Awards Handicap  (13.8f)  (0-75)

You would have thought I would of learnt my lesson putting one up in the first race, but these handicap races are not that great and typically there are good bets to find. I am drawn to Kevin Ryan’s four-year-old here in Kajaki. He has gone well fresh when coming off a break when starting his 2016 campaign when finishing third at Beverley in a 0-70 contest. He was beaten four and a half lengths that afternoon over the 9.9f trip. He was stepped up two furlongs to 11.9f when finishing runner up at Haydock park.

Looking at his Haydock run that day you could see he was screaming out for a test of stamina, duly enough he was stepped up to 14f where he ran well again finishing third in a 0-85 contest. He equipped himself well that afternoon finishing behind two entries that were rated 6lb higher. His consistency continued throughout the season and got his reward when winning a 0-80 contest on his return to Haydock Park.

The fourth place finisher that day was Tartan Bute who has come on a lot this year notching up a treble of wins on the all-weather and now has a rating of around 85. He finished the season off being placed off a mark of 71 at Ripon when going behind by just over a length. He starts the season off a reasonable mark of 71, which would put him around 5-7lb well in on his old form from last year and looks a good each way price.

Two others that have been consistent is Alan Swinbank’s Go George Go who should have won at Wolverhampton four days ago. He was beaten by a horse that was rated 14lb beneath him, his turf form is questionable from last year and has been more alight on the all-weather.

The other is Tim Easterby’s Surround Sound who had been running well prior to his win twelve days on the all-weather at Wolverhampton. He has been beaten on two attempts at this trip and looked more effective over 12f last season, unless he has found a new lease of life to get this index I think he is vulnerable on turf.

KAJAKI : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

14.50 Nottingham – totequadpot Insure Your Placepot Last Four Conditions Stakes (5.1f)

Smokey Lane and Major Jumbo look the best improvers in this race along with the selection Kyllang Rock. The latter has been in excellent form showing his speed when landing a 0-85 handicap at Wolverhampton back in February when beating a horse called Blitz who runs in the race prior. The form line through Wild Approach whom he beat by four and a half lengths that day at Wolverhampton could be interesting come this race if the sixth-place horse Dixies Double runs well at Catterick today.

The obvious danger does look to be Smokey Lane who won a conditions stakes last year at Salisbury when beating Eqtiraan who went on to finish fourth a few days ago in the Listed International trial stakes. His third in the Listed Julia Graves Roses Stakes was creditable when just over four lengths behind Big Time Baby of Tom Dascombe’s and back in fourth was Sutter County who has started his 2017 campaign with three place runs and a win on the all-weather.

Something went a miss when competing in the Listed Rokingham Stakes at York last year when only managing eighth behind Sir Dancealot. The eye catching booking of Ryan Moore looks significant, the jockey was struggling to ride a turf winner recently, but notched up a good double at Windsor on Monday and is off the mark for the season. Dazacam finished behind Major Jumbo to four lengths at Wolverhampton back in February when giving 4lb at the weights, he will get 5lb this time around and has to make up significant ground on the likely inform favourite here, but Paul Hanagan is an interesting booking.

James Tate’s Kyllang Rock won his maiden at Windsor last year when beating a horse called Fabric of Richard Hannon’s. He lost his way slightly over the summer when finishing sixth in the Molecomb Stakes and six lengths behind Smokey Lane from their Listed York encounter. He bounced back when taking a Novices contest at Catterick and was just denied on his last start at Haydock park when behind 88 rated Merry Banter when giving 7lb to the winner for a neck defeat. Kyllang Rock gets 2lb back this afternoon and with the ground coming up quick and the fact that Martin Harley takes the ride once more stands volumes for me and is my selection in today’s 14.50 horse racing preview.

KYLLANG ROCK : 2pt Win @ 5/2 (BOG)

15.20 Nottingham – totepool Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes (Listed)  (14.1f)

Ralph Beckett’s string are in blistering form and I would expect his daughter of Dalakhani to proceed where she left off last season when landing the Listed Grand Cup at York. Her run of five wins started at Newmarket when she landed a 0-90 handicap, that form was subsequently franked when the runner up More Mischief went on to win a 0-85 handicap. She went on to Kempton and blew her opposition away by four and half lengths in a 0-105 handicap.

More was still to come from her when once more she thrashed her adversaries at Wolverhampton in a conditions contest over 16.5f commanding a rating of 104. She beat a good field when landing the All-Weather marathon championship contest when beating Charlie Appleby’s conditions winner Anglophile by half a length. Her final season run came at York when beating Quest For More who went on to finish runner up in the Doncaster Cup and Long Distance Cup, but had already won the Prix Du Cadran.

She looks a serious stayer for team Beckett this year who should be picking up a few nice purses over the marathon pattern races this season. Hugo Palmer’s Wall of Fire has form with Quest For More who he beat this year in Dubai by five lengths in the Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup.

His form last year saw him bag the Melrose Stakes, whom he beat Grade 2 Adonis hurdle winner Master Blueyes. He kept that run flowing when going to Doncaster to land the Mallard Stakes when fending off Rose Bowl runner up Seamour. Hugo Palmer has creditable form when having only one runner at this meeting, but having to give 2lb to the prolific mare of Ralph Beckett’s could be too much, but never the less, Wall of Fire is dropping back to 14f this afternoon which is going to be more beneficial over his rival who would prefer 16f.

It’s a hard one to call, Moonrise Landing is having her first run of the season, the trip though could be just on the sharp side for her on re-appearance with no doubt marathon trips on the connections minds, so this could go to Hugo Palmers Wall of Fire now dropping back to 14f this afternoon despite having to give 2lb away at the weights

WALL OF FIRE : 3pts win @ 13/8 (BOG)

15.40 Fontwell Park – Star Sports The Gentleman’s Bookmaker Chase (25.5f)

Johnny Farrelly’s Finish The Story has dropped back to a reasonable mark this afternoon to really get involved in this open contest. The eleven-year-old won on his first start of 2017 which came at Southwell over today’s trip. He won convincingly that day by eight lengths under today’s pilot Brendan Powell. His runs in February and March have also been consistent enough over longer trips. Even though he was thrashed in the Surrey National at Lingfield park that was over the marathon trip of 28f.

Again, he ran well when finishing fourth in a 0-100 handicap chase, he was a long way back that day over the 25.7f trip. Today’s trip is no different, but there are more exposed types in this race to suggest he can run well again. The likely danger looks to come from the recent Warwick scorer Bandon Bridge who was seen winning over 24f last time. Since being stepped up in trip he has become a versatile opposition for Katy Price. Gavin Sheehan has partnered the horse on both starts recently and will so again this afternoon.

FINISH THE STORY : 1pt each way @ 10/1 (BOG)
