Never the same day twice in this industry, two seconds at the back end of the day left me picking up the pieces on a loss on the day. Today’s selections come from Ayr and Windsor, I did have six picked out this afternoon, but have whittled it down to three, but I will give the remainder three out at the end of this preview.

16:00 Ayr – Totepool Like Us on Facebook (7f 50y)

Trap-py affair this one, but I would like to think with Ruth Carr stepping Vallarta back up in trip today brings us all a return. The 6f trip was all wrong last time here at Ayr when staying on into fourth behind Black Isle Boy who runs in the 19.40 Pontefract this evening and will probably go off favourite.

Not sure If it’s their  having difficulties getting Vallarta into well handicapped races, which is resulting in running him at the wrong trip, horses do have to pay their way, so this step back up to 7.2f looks finally a big opportunity for him to go close off only a 2lb higher winning mark.

Two months he was denied over course and distance back in May, since then he went on to win at Hamilton in a 0-80, this is a drop in class so has to be respected.

Vallarta : 1pt each way @ 15/2 (BOG)

16:30 Ayr – Totepool Betting on all UK Racing Handicap (5f)

Michael Dods doesn’t make many trips to Ayr these days and has the paper favourite here with My Name Is Rio who was recently beaten in a 0-85 handicap at Doncaster.

Now I can see the novelty why he is favourite purely as he’s dropped in class, but for me is very vulnerable with a course record of 1-6, 7lb lower mark on that single win here, so off  72 there is something to play with.

I am going to take a cautious stab here with Ruth Carr’s Suwaan, with this not being the tidiest of contests the ex Kevin Prendergast in-mate joined Ruth’s yard and got off to a flyer on the all weather at Newcastle winning a 0F-65 handicap.

They stepped him up significantly into a 10lb higher category and was only just denied by a head at Nottingham. For whatever reason he was given a unjustified run at Redcar last time with his mid division finish in a weak race.

Again he steps up into a 0-80, with a probable life time effort to land the race this afternoon, he is still only three so plenty of time to work with him.

Suwaan : 1pt each way @ 10/1 (BOG)

18:00 Windsor – EBF Stallions Novice Stakes (Plus 10) (6f 12y)

Well the lad has one in Buridan, this was a recently very expensive juvenile purchase at the breeze ups costing in the region of over £350,000 and bought by Al Shaqab Racing.

Not all high purchased juveniles do well on debut, but the fact they have booked the talents of Frankie Dettori who comes here only to significantly ride Buridan is a tip in itself.

Angel of the North would just be a coincidence beat living not too far from Newcastle, ran well when runner up here over course and distance last month.

A mention for Clive Cox’s Prince Ahwahnee who also ran well on debut behind June Dog at Leicester and should once more be on the premises. I must emphasise though I’m not one to back odds on shots, but this should not get beat in an ideal world.

Buridan : 4pt win @ 10/11 (BOG)

Today’s other selections

14.00 Ayr: Sufrani (ew 5/1)

19.00 Windsor : Hermann (5/2), keep an eye on Levey turning up here this evening.

20.30 Windsor : Again Levey & Hannon with Malcolm the Plug (ew @ 8/1)

World Cup Qualifiers, Group D, Rajko Mitic stadium, Serbia 7.45pm

Serbia vs Wales – Match Preview – Wales’ depleted side travel to Serbia desperately looking for a win to give themselves a fighting chance of qualification for the 2018 World Cup.

Four successive draws against Austria, Georgia, Serbia and The Republic of Ireland have left Wales languishing on 7 points in 3rd in Group D, a far cry from the euphoric highs of Euro 2016 where The Dragons defied multiple odds to surprisingly reach the semi-finals. Also 4 points behind today’s opponents and The R.O.I in 1st and 2nd respectively with 5 games of the campaign to go; a first ever victory over Serbia (or formerly Serbia and Montenegro or Yugoslavia) is essential to keep qualification hopes alive for Chris Coleman’s men.
Another rousing aspect will be to seek revenge for the humiliation garnered after a 6-1 demolishing in this fixture in 2012 in what was seen as the flagship result of Coleman’s early reign and the turning point in recent Welsh football.

Serbia are in a strong position at the summit of the table. Slavoljub Bobek’s team are undefeated after 5 matches and have already secured victory over Georgia, Austria and Moldova. An impressive late draw (courtesy of an 88th minute Aleksandar Mitrovic equaliser) at The Principality Stadium in the reverse fixture of this match further highlighted the threat possessed by The Eagles as they seek to consolidate a place in Russia.

Team News
Champions League winner Gareth Bale heads a list of players unable to make the trip; the Real Madrid forward is unavailable due to receiving a suspension after a yellow card in Wales’ last qualifying match against Ireland. Neil Taylor is also suspended after his leg-breaking challenge with Everton full-back Seamus Coleman. Hal Robson-Kanu, James Collins, Andy King and Ben Woodburn are all additionally ruled out with injuries.

For the hosts; the only withdrawals are squad players Nemanja Radoja and Ljubomir Fejsa.

Serbia captain Ivanovic could have his last chance at reaching a World Cup this campaign Photo Credit: skysports.com

Players to Watch
Serbia Captain Branislav Ivanovic is a name well-known across British football having enjoyed an extremely successful 9 years with Chelsea, collecting 3 Premier Leagues, 3 FA Cups, the 2012 Champions League, the 2013 Europa League and the 2015 League Cup. His influence waned towards the end of that spell but is still one of the finest players Serbia have ever produced. If the destructive full-back can channel his past attacking qualities and score in this clash in what would be his 94th cap, he will become the joint second-highest goal-scorer in his country’s history on 13 goals (currently on 12).

Wales will look to Aaron Ramsey to provide a spark to their side this evening Photo Credit: skysports.com

Aaron Ramsey entertains his fair share of critics in a deeply scrutinised Arsenal side but there is no doubting that the central midfielder possesses vast amounts of ability. Recently having scored his second FA Cup Final winning goal with a fine header against Chelsea; Ramsey will be energised and motivated to continue that form onto the international stage. Taking to the pitch against Serbia will result in his 47th cap and the age of just 26 and his contribution to his country’s fortunes is always positive; proven with his inclusion in the Euro 2016 team of the tournament. The circumstances are now different, however, and Ramsey will have to be at his best to inspire a struggling Wales side to victory in what promises to be an incredibly difficult task.

Suggested Tips:

Day Two of the PDC European Tour in Hamburg was full of compelling matches and huge shocks. Day Three promises to possess the same drama and entertainment of the past two days.

Englishman, Peter Hudson, provided the most staggering result, defeating Belgian, Kim Huybrechts, 6-5, in a match he’s sure to remember for a long time. Hudson is ranked 95th in the PDC Order of Merit; 83 places below Huybrechts, a statistic that makes the result even more of a shock. Hudson now faces another tough test in Alan Norris who beat Finish darts player, Marko Kantele, in simple fashion. Norris will feel confident he can end Hudson’s impressive run and it’s tough to see the underdog grabbing another shock win.

ALAN NORRIS TO WIN AGAINST PETER HUDSON – 8/15
Young English prospect, Michael Smith, strolled into the next round with a 6-1 victory over Mike De Decker. Smith is improving ten-fold in 2017, following a disappointing Premier League campaign in 2016 that took a big knock at his confidence. Smith won the last PDC Tournament in Gibralatar and will feel confident he can do the same in Hamburg. Smith faces Andy Hamilton in the next round. Hamilton impressively beat Australian and ex-Premier League player, Simon Whitlock. Hamilton will struggle in this match, and should find Smith’s power scoring and impressive run on the doubles too much to handle.

MICHAEL SMITH  TO WIN AGAINST PETER HUDSON – 2/9

Mensur Suljovic completes our preview with his game against Dave Chisnall. Mensur will have the slight psychological advantage as he often prospers on the PDC Circuit against tricky opposition. Promises to be a close one.

ALAN NORRIS TO WIN AGAINST PETER HUDSON – 8/15

With plenty more matches scheduled for Sunday, we are sure are in for a good day of darts. The PDC Tour 2017 has already provided us with some big shocks and I can’t see any different occurring this time around. Michael Van Gerwen enters the tournament in this round and will be many people’s favourite to win this competition. Can the Dutch darting wizard add another trophy to his large cabinet?

MVG TO WIN EUROPEAN TOUR – 4/6

Suggested Bet:

Suljovic, Smith & Norris all to win their matches – 3.12/1

Today’s horse racing preview comes from three meetings with four selections from Nottingham, Goodwood and The Curragh. The blog returns three nice winners of 8/1, 3/1 and 15/2 from four selections; even though I was disappointed with the ride Ryan Moore gave Fantasy keeper, the market drift told the final story from 9/4 to 10/3.

13.50 Nottingham – Bettinggods.com Free Racing Tips EBF Maiden Stakes (5f)

There was significant money at Catterick nine days ago for Mark Johnston’s W G Grace, 16/1 into 9/1 when only managing fourth. That was in Novice company, diverts here into maiden company in which he should be taking full advantage of.

Looking over the run once more, PJ was not that hard on him, once beaten he was just ridden out hands and heels, big claims here this afternoon.

Main dangers, both Bodybuilder and Peter Leonard have run well enough, Richard Hannon trains the former here who finished fifth in Novice company at Salisbury, the winner Nine Below Zero has won again at Windsor recently so I can justify why he’s as short as 7/4. Fahey’s Peter Leonard will have to improve immensely after finishing last at York.

W G Grace : 1.5pts each way @ 5/1 (BOG)

14.00 Goodwood – NDPCC Speak Out Stay Safe Maiden Fillies Stakes (9.9f)

Amanda Perratt’s Lightening Dance had been put in as a strong favourite to go one better than when finishing second on debut at Salisbury, but it’s the horse that finished just two lengths off of him in Trilliant who is almost 7pts bigger in the market.

Both horses were positive in the market, but Ed Giles daughter of Dansili was trading quite low in the closing stages, now she will have to step up to reverse the form, but her odds should not be seven times in value as the tissue has summarised.

If they both fail to perform then the main danger would have to be Clive Cox’s Italian Heiress who’s third on reappearance at Windsor was encouraging enough to see her step up in trip.

Trilliant : 1pt each way @ 15/2 (BOG)

14.45 Curragh  – TRM Excellence In Equine Nutrition Irish European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap (7f)

The way Johnny Murtagh’s Tobacco Bay won at Tipperary was impressive, she left her rivals for dead in a matter of strides, she is stepping back half a furlong this afternoon, but if she’s up on the pace it should be a formality.

Oh Grace and Duchess of France look best of the remainder, the latter looks less exposed after her just defeat in a 0-75 handicap at Ayr six days ago.

Tobacco Bay : 2pt win @ 9/2 (BOG)

15.55 Curragh  – TRM Ballyogan Stakes (Group 3) (6f)

Only Mine will be a tough nut to crack if she brings her second to Gordon Lord Byron from the Group 2 Greenlands Stakes over course and distance last month, but it was not the best of renewals in my opinion and could be very vulnerable, good point is that Pour Moi as a sire is going well this year.

One I did like was Peticoatgovernment who looked to have been unlucky in a big handicap over course and distance last month. My reason for the last minute change is purely on the ground, it caught her out in the closing stages, so I decided to take her on with Ballydoyle’s Alphabet.

Now I know you should never change your mind, but Alphabet won a good handicap at Naas on this year’s opening run, despite not visiting the winning enclosure since she was totally out classed in the Group 2 Sandy Lanes which was a competitive renewal this year.

Then was not beaten that far in a 50k handicap over course and distance two runs back, the only concern is her draw in stall 4 might not be favourable, but she’s very capable handicapper and has a very able pilot in Seamus Heffernan.

Alphabet : 2pts each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

World Cup Qualifiers, Group F, Hampden Park, Glasgow

Scotland vs England Match Preview – The oldest match in football rears its head again as Gareth Southgate’s England travel to Gordon Strachan’s Scotland for the Battle of Britain in Group F.

England, having faced an acrimonious elimination from Euro 2016 by Iceland in the last 16, have been in upheaval since. Roy Hodgson immediately had his position terminated and Sam Allardyce was instated to steady the ship as he always does.

However, Allardyce lasted just one game in charge; he was dismissed after being caught on video explaining how to circumvent FA rules and acting ‘inappropriately’.

Since then, former U21 boss Gareth Southgate has been appointed and instilled stability into the side – England sit comfortably top of Group F on 13 points at the half-way point of 5 games and the much-fancied Three Lions look set to qualify bar an unlikely collapse.

Fortunes are different for the Scots, however, they have failed to qualify for the last 9 major tournaments and they currently find themselves 4th in the qualifying group on just 7 points following disappointing results such as a home 1-1 draw against Lithuania and a 3-0 hammering at Slovakia.

Manager Gordon Strachan has had scrutiny involving his position as a consequence and it seems doubtful that Scotland will turn it around to qualify for their first World Cup and tournament since 1998. A blockbusting victory over arch-rivals England could perhaps ignite that fire to achieve something special.

Team News
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has missed out training this week but finds himself back in contention as Strachan has a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy has pulled out of the England side with a ‘minor injury’ picked up whilst training and full-back Nathaniel Clyne has also withdrawn from the squad.

Youngster Tierney has been a rising star for both Scotland and Celtic Photo Credit: skysports.com

Players to Watch
Scotland’s Kieran Tierney has garnered plaudits and adulation for his stellar performances at left-back this season for Celtic – including a wonderful display in The Bhoys’ 3-3 draw with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in The Champions League at the beginning of the campaign. Likely to be deployed on the opposite right-hand side again for his country in what will be his fourth cap; 20-year-old Tierney is a marauding full-back with plenty of potential to disrupt opposition defences and undoubtedly has the ability to do so in this game.

Lallana will be key to opening up the Scotland defence Photo Credit: skysports.com

Adam Lallana is often a player that divides opinion; overrated for his lack of output or underrated for his selfless work-rate – the Liverpool midfielder never has it easy. Despite this; the ex-Southampton man had a wonderful season under Jurgen Klopp in a new central midfield role – contributing 8 goals and 7 assists in 31 appearances in the Premier League. For England, the 29-year-old had to wait until his 27th appearance to find the net, but it came with a pivotal injury-time winner against Slovakia in what proved to be Allardyce’s solitary match. Lallana’s technical ability has never been doubted and with a new-found eye for goal (he has also scored against Scotland and Spain since) could be a difference-maker on the night.

Summary
England are huge favourites to compile Scottish misery, but it will be a tight affair as Scotland will be desperate not to lose and all but eradicate any qualification hopes.
History and form does favour England though, Scotland not being victorious between the two sides since 1999 (3 losses since) and England are undefeated in their last 4 visits to Scotland.

Remarkably, England haven’t been on the losing side in a qualification match since October 2009 so it will take the imaginative and improbable to destroy that record. But in rival matches, anything is possible.

World Cup Qualifiers, Group C, Tofiq Bahramov Stadium, Azerbaijan 5pm

Azerbaijan vs Northern Ireland Match Preview – Northern Ireland will travel to Azerbaijan on Saturday to continue their World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign. Michael O’Neill’s men will feel confident heading into the fixture in Baku, as Azerbaijan have gained only one point from their last three matches.

Northern Ireland currently sit second in Group C; five points behind leaders and World Champions, Germany, and three points ahead of their opposition come Saturday evening. The ‘Green and White Army’ have ran a solid defensive operation so far in their qualifying campaign, having conceded only two goals in five matches both against Germany. They also haven’t been shy of goals either, averaging two goals per match so far. Can Northern Ireland continue their goal scoring form on Saturday?

Skybet Match Result – Northern Ireland to Win – 5/4

Azerbaijan will look to close the gap on Northern Ireland, with a win bringing them level on points in Group C. It’s been a few months since Azerbaijan last played a match; dating back to 26th March 2017 against Germany where they lost 4-1. Azerbaijan have succeeded in winning important matches against the less competitive nations in the Group, however have failed to capitalize in matches against tougher opposition. Having only scored three goals and conceded eight, they will need to improve at both ends of the pitch if they are to cause a shock on Saturday. Can Azerbaijan beat the odds and cause a big upset in Group C?

Team News

Northern Ireland manager, Michael O’Neill, has a frustrating list of unavailable players to alter his team selection.

O’Neill is without Craig Cathcart who has been ruled out with a knee injury. Also missing for Northern Ireland are Paddy McNair, Corry Evans, Chris Baird, Jamie Ward, Luke McCullough and Conor Washington.

West Brom player, Chris Brunt, will be a key figure for his nation on Saturday. Can Brunt find the back of the net in this crucial qualifier?

Dmitrij Nazarov will be a goal threat for Northern Ireland Photo Credit: www.11freunde.de

Azerbaijan have no fresh injury worries and suspensions to deal with.

Being able to name their strongest eleven, attacking player, Dimitrij Nazarov, will be Azerbaijan’s biggest threat to Northern Ireland.

Nazarov has proved he has no trouble scoring, having scored six international goals in his 23 appearances to date; his latest against Germany in their 4-1 loss.

Can Nazarov bag another goal for his country?

World Cup Qualifier Group E, National Stadium, Warsaw 7.45pm

Poland vs Romania – Match Preview – Poland will host Romania on Saturday night in a World Cup 2018 qualifying match. Poland are currently spearheading the qualification group and will look to widen the gap on their opponents on Saturday under the floodlights in Warsaw.

The hosts enter the fixture in impressive form; having most recently beat Montenegro, 2-1, away from home. The Polish are unbeaten over 90 minutes in 12 matches dating back to a friendly against Holland on 1st June 2016. Currently six points clear of the competition in Group E, Poland will look to continue their fine form with a win on Saturday.

Bayern Munich and Poland forward Robert Lewandowski Photo Credit: skysports.com

Poland will look to further their advantage through key talisman, Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern Munich striker has 42 goals in 85 international appearances; his latest came in the last match against Montenegro. The striker’s pure instinct to find the back of the net and his habit for being in the right place at the right time could cause too many problems for the Romanian defence. Can Robert strike again for Poland?

Bogdan Stancu will hope to keep Romania’s dreams alive of World Cup Qualification Photo Credit: skysports.com

Romania will travel to Poland feeling optimistic after drawing their last World Cup 2018 qualifier against Denmark. However, the Romanians have failed to score in their last four matches. Centre-forward, Bogdan Stancu, will be looking to put an end to Romania’s goal drought this weekend. The 29-year-old plays his club football at Bursaspor in the Turkish league and has 12 goals for his country in 48 appearances. Can Stancu break the Romanian mould and finally score Romania’s first goal in 2017?

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Bogdan Stancu to score Anytime in 90 mins – 7/2

Team News

Poland manager, Adam Nawatka, is without pacey winger, Jakub Blaszczykowski. The 31-year-old has an adductor injury and is still unsure on a return date.

Poland will look to Arek Milik to partner Lewandowski up front and fill the gap that Blaszczykowski’s absence creates.

Can Milik help Poland to glory?

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Arek Milik to score Anytime in 90 mins – 15/8

Romania have no fresh injury worries or suspensions to alter team selection.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur centre-back, Vlad Chiriches, is at the heart of the Romanian defence and will be key for Romania on Saturday.

Can the now-Napoli defender help his side to a clean sheet?

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Haydock with four selections from the meeting. Not the day I was hoping for on Friday, with the Nap just prevailing by a Whisker.

14.20 Haydock  – Betway Sprint Handicap (0-80) (6f)

Michael Appleby’s Fantasy Keeper should be the one to beat in this. The lightly raced son of Mayson showed a good turn of foot at Nottingham when beating Seaview by two lengths. The runner up ran well again when bumping into the smart Kaeso at Ripon on Thursday.

Main dangers and I cannot see that many, Tom Dascombe’s Full Intention, who was beaten over course and distance last time out in similar class, has to be feared in soft conditions.

Fantasy Keeper : 2pt win @ 5/2 (BOG)

14.55 Haydock  – Betway Dash Handicap (0-95) (6f)

The info has been relevantly good over the past couple of weeks, and I have had some here for this race for Handsome Dude. David Barron’s five year old ran a good second at Thirsk last month when behind a potentially improved horse in Naggers who was unlucky not to follow up at Epsom last weekend.

It’s a competitive Handicap and the others that come into the equation are Ecclestone and Reflektor. The former finished three lengths behind Snap Shots three days ago, was not given the best of rides and will certainly be on the premises.

Reflektor, sixth on season’s appearance at Chester, looks stronger when half a length behind recent Epsom dash winner Caspian Prince and Duke of Firenze fourth.

Handsome Dude : 2pts each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

15.30 Haydock  – Betway Pinnacle Stakes (Group 3) (11.8f)

Ajman Princess is a tall order in this for Roger Varian, won on season’s debut as you like when a 1/20 shot at Lingfield back in March, brought that run on when following up at Goodwood landing the Listed Warwick Stakes.

Dubka was well beaten that day when favourite, to say she can improve nine lengths against a fairly useful type is a stiff ask, but did win around this time last year in soft ground over slightly further.

I am going to take them both on with the French raider Bateel, runner up recently in this class at Chantilly, has good form over here around this time last year when winning the Listed Fred Archer Stakes on heavy ground, big player for me here.

Bateel : 2pt win @ 3/1 (BOG)

16.05 Haydock  – Betway John of Gaunt Stakes (Group 3) (7f)

One horse that never seems to win his fair share is Andrew Balding’s Absolutely So. His stats around Haydock read 352, which is reasonable enough for an each way bet. A good second here last month when running up behind Oh This Is Us in the Listed Spring Trophy Stakes.

The winner has since run creditable when third in the Group 3 Diomed Stakes when behind two smart individuals in Sovereign Debt and Gabrial. So Beloved was one length back in third from the Haydock race and meets off the same weights once more.

Breton Rock won the Listed Spring Trophy here three seasons ago and went on to win the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes the same year. But his stats around Haydock read 1-5 and has been beaten on his past three visits here.

His Group 1 Lockinge third to Ribchester was okay I suppose, this is a step in the right direction dropping in class, even though he’s pattern class performer, I would not of brought him here to crack his course voodoo.

Absolutely So : 1pt each way @ 15/2 (BOG)
