World Cup Qualifier Group E, National Stadium, Warsaw 7.45pm
Poland vs Romania – Match Preview – Poland will host Romania on Saturday night in a World Cup 2018 qualifying match. Poland are currently spearheading the qualification group and will look to widen the gap on their opponents on Saturday under the floodlights in Warsaw.
The hosts enter the fixture in impressive form; having most recently beat Montenegro, 2-1, away from home. The Polish are unbeaten over 90 minutes in 12 matches dating back to a friendly against Holland on 1st June 2016. Currently six points clear of the competition in Group E, Poland will look to continue their fine form with a win on Saturday.
Poland will look to further their advantage through key talisman, Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern Munich striker has 42 goals in 85 international appearances; his latest came in the last match against Montenegro. The striker’s pure instinct to find the back of the net and his habit for being in the right place at the right time could cause too many problems for the Romanian defence. Can Robert strike again for Poland?
Romania will travel to Poland feeling optimistic after drawing their last World Cup 2018 qualifier against Denmark. However, the Romanians have failed to score in their last four matches. Centre-forward, Bogdan Stancu, will be looking to put an end to Romania’s goal drought this weekend. The 29-year-old plays his club football at Bursaspor in the Turkish league and has 12 goals for his country in 48 appearances. Can Stancu break the Romanian mould and finally score Romania’s first goal in 2017?
Poland manager, Adam Nawatka, is without pacey winger, Jakub Blaszczykowski. The 31-year-old has an adductor injury and is still unsure on a return date.
Poland will look to Arek Milik to partner Lewandowski up front and fill the gap that Blaszczykowski’s absence creates.
Can Milik help Poland to glory?
Romania have no fresh injury worries or suspensions to alter team selection.
Ex-Tottenham Hotspur centre-back, Vlad Chiriches, is at the heart of the Romanian defence and will be key for Romania on Saturday.
Can the now-Napoli defender help his side to a clean sheet?
