Everton vs Watford – Match Preview

FA Premier League, Goodison Park, Liverpool 7.45pm

Everton head into tonight’s fixture against Watford knowing that they have secured a place in next season’s Europa League with their 7th place standing in the Premier League, with West Brom in 8th, 13 points away from The Toffees.

Watford currently sit in 15th position, 6 points away from the relegation zone and need to ensure a victory to keep their dreams of staying in the Premier League alive. 5 points are needed to equal last years points tally in the league.

Team News

Central midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin looks set to return to the Everton squad for the last home game of the season after suffering a thigh injury which kept the Frenchman out for the last 2 games. But Dutch goalkeeper Martin Stekelenburg will miss out due to a groin injury.

The Hornets will be without Tom Cleverley who is ineligible due to the terms of his loan move from Everton while both centre backs, Craig Cathcart and Miguel Britos are still injured. Ben Watson and Jose Holebas could feature after recovering from respective groin and foot injuries.

Players to Watch

Romelu Lukaku has scored 24 goals in 36 league appearances and the Belgian forward will be looking to secure the Golden Boot in the Premiership with 3 more goals than closest rival, Tottenham’s Harry Kane. The forward will enjoy the physicality against the West Brom defence and will surely cause problems, but he must receive better support from his midfield, especially Ross Barkley who has not shown enough again this season to provide goals and assists due to his inconsistency.

Watford will look to captain Troy Deeney to provide calmness and composure to the squad. The 28 year old striker has 10 goals for the Hornets and can provide goals as well as score them and his workrate is second to none.

Troy Deeney will hope to secure a win to ensure safety in the Premier League next season Photo Credit: skysports.com

Everton should be securing a home win as Watford have not scored in 5 consecutive away games losing all of them and have only managed 1 goal in 8 hours of football.

But, Everton do have their own problems in attack, not scoring in 3 of their last games and against Watford, have not beaten the Hornets in their last 3 meetings.

West Bromwich Albion vs Chelsea – Match Preview

FA Premier League, The Hawthorns, West Bromwich, 7.45pm

Chelsea are seeking to seal the Premier League title with victory over a stagnating West Brom at The Hawthorns.
Considering Spurs’ 1-0 defeat against rivals West Ham last Friday; Chelsea knew a victory over Middlesbrough on Sunday would take them a potential 90 minutes from glory and they did so by comfortably dispatching the North-East side 3-0. 7 points separate Chelsea from nearest rivals Spurs with just 3 matches remaining.

West Brom have also had an exemplary season by their own standards and currently find themselves in a lofty 8th position in the Premier League.Exactly how good their season has been can be described using recent form; The Baggies have only gained 5 points from the last possible 27, with just one victory and 6 losses in that period. Even more worryingly; Tony Pulis’ men have only scored in 2 of those 9 matches – highlighting a real issue in attack moving forward.

Johnny Evans Looks set to miss the game due to injury Photo Credit: skysports.com

Team News

Key West Brom defender Johnny Evans was taken off in The Baggies’ 2-2 draw with Burnley last week with an ankle injury and looks as if he will be unavailable for the game.
Matt Phillips and Hal Robson-Kanu both have hamstring problems with the former ruled out and the Welsh international a doubt but likely to make the squad.

Chelsea have a fully fit squad to pick from as PFA and Football Writers’ Player of the Year N’Golo Kante is set to return to the side for Chelsea after missing the victory against Middlesbrough. This will provide a headache for Conte as Kante’s replacement, Cesc Fabregas, produced a man-of-the-match display in that game.

Eden Hazard has been pivotal in Chelsea’s charge for the title Photo Credit: skysports.com

Player to watch
After a dismal campaign last time around; Eden Hazard has been back to his usual dazzling displays and has 15 goals and a further 5 assists in the Premier League to his name this season. The Belgian winger has become revitalised under Conte and with his outrageous dribbling ability and ingenious creation, he has looked the division’s deadliest forward for large parts of the season – a performance of similar impact will see Chelsea surely win and be crowned Champions.

Summary
Chelsea are the overwhelming favourites and have scarcely slipped up all year – only 5 losses all season with 4 of them coming from rivals in the top 6 – and many expect it to be business as usual for The Blues with a full squad at peak momentum.
However; West Brom have won 3 of their last 5 against Chelsea at The Hawthorns and will want to provide a stern test to round off the season.
Additionally; Chelsea have not completed back-to-back victories against The Baggies in 10 attempts – a 1-0 victory in December providing an opportunity to stop that record continuing.

Should Chelsea go on to win this fixture; they would emerge as Premier League Champions for the 5th time, only Manchester United will have won more with 13 – solidifying The Blues as an English powerhouse.
By winning, Chelsea will have amassed 42 points away from home (the highest in the division) which has not been matched since Manchester United in 2011/12 (a year in which they did not win the title).

By winning the title; Conte would become both the fourth Italian manager to do so (after Carlo Ancelotti in 2009/10, Roberto Mancini in 2011/12 and Claudio Ranieri in 2015/16) and the fourth manager to win the league in his first season (after Mourinho in 2004/05, Ancelotti in 2009/10 and Manuel Pellegrini in 2013/14).

Horse Racing Preview – Chester & Ripon – 12th May 2017

Plenty of cards this afternoon to keep you all occupied, today’s horse racing preview come from Chester and Ripon.

15.35 Chester – Boodles Diamond Ormande Stakes (Group 3)

This race could shed some light on this year’s St Leger chances, at the top end of the market is Ballydoyle’s US Army Ranger. Last year’s Derby runner up returns to put his stamp on things over middle distances and beyond this season.

We all know he handles Chester when winning last year’s Chester Vase on his way to Epsom, but he probably felt the excursions from his Derby run when failing to make any impact. His first run back this season saw him beaten in the Alleged Stakes when behind Air Pilot.

For me the son of Galileo has some big listed engagements this year, the further he goes the better in my opinion and would like to see him land this in good style and head for Doncaster at the back end of the season.

Midterm was also beaten in reappearance beaten to just over two lengths in the John Porter at Newbury. This is a new trip this afternoon, and it looks like Sire Galileo will take this race either way.

John Gosden’s Western Hymn has not shown his three-year-old form, last year’s Gordon Richards and Brigidair Gerard Stakes winner has not really for me shown his true character and potential. Runner up in last year’s Huxley Stakes, the now six year old has had four failed attempts at 12f last year, but finally got a win on his return to the all-weather when winning at Kempton to make it 2-2 and three years in duration between the two runs on the all-weather when winning the Listed  Floodlit Stakes.

It’s hard to catch him right these days, if this race was run at Kempton he would probably be close to challenging for favouritism, personally even though I have tipped the horse on many occasions last year he has disappointed me every time, today I have over looked him which might be a backing tip in its self and put egg on my face.

Lively outsider is Ralph Beckett’s Diamonds Pour Moi, she ran creditable in last year’s Cheshire Oaks when one length off Somehow who has won both starts this year emphatically which included the Dahlia Stakes last weekend. Something went a miss when coming back sore when pulling up in the Epsom Oaks, she finished off her campaign winning at Saint-Cloud.

Any support in the market for Beckett’s filly here should be noted, she doesn’t have many miles on the clock and could have more improvement to come.

US Army Ranger : 3pt Win @ 9/4 (BOG)

18.00 Ripon – SIS Trading Services Novice Auction Stakes (5f)

There are a couple of well thought of individuals in this which include Mark Johnston’s well-bred filly Starlight Mystery and David O’Meara’s Highland Bobby who both have entries in this year’s big juvenile encounters.

The former got off the mark at the second attempt at Brighton ten days ago in what could be a useful looking Novice Stakes race. She never looked in trouble when cruising in hand by two lengths, she should make her presence felt here.

Highland Bobby finished fifth in a similar contest at Beverley eleven days ago, a race that is surely going to turn out winners as the season comes on, but one I have opted for here is Ben Haslam’s speedy bred Funkadelic who did not run badly on debut when finishing sixth of twelve when behind Koditime, the runner up Dahik was the eye catcher in the race as was Central City.

Ben is a hard trainer to catch winners with, but it’s a I yard I do like to follow at the northern based tracks and he could be a fair price if the tissue of around 7/1 is available on the day. One other that most definitely deserves a mention is Tim Easterby’s Aristodemus who showed potential when third at Ripon behind Black Orange who was just denied by a nose in the Lily Agnes Condition Stakes at Chester on Wednesday.

It’s a hard one to call as I like two against the field and it’s that time to put the right one forward, the Black Orange form is solid due to the winners form this week at Chester, the top two yards have also very nice improved entries, but I’m going to hold my original thoughts on Aristodemus who outran his 66/1 price tag on debut, looks interesting and is owned by an excellent syndicate, Ontoawinner, who are well worth getting involved in.

Aristomedus : 1.5pt Win @ SP (BOG)

Betway – Darts Premier League – Week 15 – 11th May 2017

It couldn’t be more tense as the Betway Darts Premier League regular season comes to an end. Aberdeen will play host to the final four fixtures that will see the bottom four in the league wave goodbye to the top four, who will be packing their bags for the O2 Arena. The current holder of the trophy, Michael van Gerwen, could seal top spot with a win, however, he faces tough opposition in Gary Anderson. In fourth place, Phil Taylor must beat Adrian Lewis to fend off the in-form Dave Chisnall; who would have the slightest chance of top four qualification if ‘The Power’ was to slip up.

Fixture List

Dave Chisnall vs James Wade

Dave Chisnall is the man in-form in the Premier League right now. He has seen a huge improvement on the doubles which when paired with his 180 hitting is making him a force to be reckoned with. James Wade is now unable to qualify for the top four positions meaning this will be his last match in this seasons Premier League, disappointing by his standards. With a glimmer of hope in his eye for that fourth spot, Chisnall should bring too much firepower for Wade.

Skybet Match Winner – Dave Chisnall – 4/5

Phil Taylor can book his spot at the finals in London with at least a draw PhotoCredit: skysports.com

Phil Taylor vs Adrian Lewis

All eyes will be on Phil Taylor in this match up as he faces the out-of-sorts Adrian Lewis. Taylor can book his spot at the finals in London with at least a draw, but Lewis will be playing for pride; after a shocking performance, last week. Taylor has improved his treble hitting lately, a factor that helped him beat Michael van Gerwen last week, 7-3. Current form should see Taylor over the line and qualify but even with all his experience, will the pressure be too much for ‘The Power’?

Skybet Match Winner – Phil Taylor – 8/11

Peter Wright vs Raymond van Barneveld

Peter Wright is a man on a mission this year. Last week he beat Adrian Lewis 7-2 in the Premier League and in the European Tour Grand Prix final on Sunday, he whitewashed Michael van Gerwen 6-0…incredible stuff. Raymond van Barneveld put up a good fight last week against Dave Chisnall however he was unfortunate to lose with a 100.65 three dart average. Wright will overtake Michael van Gerwen at the head of the table if he was to win, leaving all the pressure on ‘Mighty Mike’ in the last game of the evening. Will ‘Snakebite’ slither to the top of the table?

Skybet Match Winner – Peter Wright – 4/6

Michael van Gerwen can seal top spot with a victory against Gary Anderson Photo Credit: skysports.com

Michael van Gerwen vs Gary Anderson

When these two meet, they like to flex their darting muscle. Michael van Gerwen has a good history against the Scotsman; winning four of their last five meetings. Anderson will be looking to consolidate third place in the table with at least a draw being enough to do so. The two drew last time they met on the first night of the Premier League season. Will it be honours even again or will van Gerwen seal top spot with a victory?

Skybet Total 180’s – Over 7.5 180’s – 8/11

Suggested Tips:

  • Skybet Premier League Price Boost – Chisnall, Taylor & Wright all to win their matches – 5/1
  • Skybet Specials – Chisnall over 4.5 180’s, Taylor win match & highest checkout, Wright most 180’s v Barney & MVG match treble – 50/1
  • Skybet Featured RequestAbet – Every player to hit 2 or more 180’s – 3/1
  • Skybet Match Trebles – Chisnall to win the match, hit the outright highest checkout and score more 180’s than Wade – 2/1
  • Skybet Featured RequestAbet (Taylor vs Lewis) – Taylor to Win, Lewis most 180s & 3 or More 80+ Checkouts in Match – 5/1
  • Skybet Player Performance (Wright vs van Barneveld) – Peter Wright to win the match, score over 3.5 180’s and checkout over 104.5 – 5/1
  • Skybet Featured RequestAbet (van Gerwen vs Anderson) – MVG to win, 10 or more 180’s in the match & either player to checkout 100 or higher – 6/1

Olympique Lyonnais vs Ajax – Match Preview – Match Preview

Europa League, Semi Final 2nd Leg, Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Lyon 8.05pm

Lyon are looking for an historic 2nd leg comeback against Ajax to obtain a place in the prestigious Europa League final in Stockholm.

Story of the first leg
Ajax are on the brink of a first European final in 21 years – in Amsterdam they established a commanding 4-1 lead to take to France with clinical attacking prowess.
On-loan Chelsea forward Bertrand Traore stole the show; heading in Hakim Ziyech’s free kick and tapping in another great cross from the Moroccan either side of half time with youngster Kasper Dolberg and forward Amin Younes also scoring between each of the Burkina Faso star’s strikes. Mathieu Valbuena netted a well-placed consolation to give the French side a slight glimmer of hope.

The winner of this tie will face the victor of Manchester United v Celta Vigo in the other semi-final; the Premier League side seem favourites after a strong showing in a 1-0 defeat of Celta in Spain. Lyon are aiming to become the first French team to win the Europa League/UEFA Cup but as mentioned above, face an incredibly arduous task to do so. Ajax playing United seems likely at present and would prove an extremely strong showing of European pedigree; highlighting the Europa League’s ascending reputation.

Also the winner of this match will be the ‘home’ team in the final in Sweden on 24th May.

Players to Watch
After his dynamic showing in the first leg; Bertrand Traore is the name on most viewer’s lips for this tie. His strong output of 13 goals and 6 assists in 36 appearances will be giving parent club Chelsea’s boss Antonio Conte something to think about. 4 goals and 4 assists in 9 matches in the Europa League partnered with his direct ball carrying and electric pace see Traore as a constant threat for opposition defences and Ajax will have to execute a new plan to stop his influence this time around.

Maxime Gonalons is imperative to all things positive for Lyon; the defensive midfielder has been with the club since 2000 and has proved vital in the heart of midfield in destroying opposition attacks and intuitively putting his team back on the front foot with his effective distribution. Not primarily a creative influence; Gonalons still has an assist in the Europa League this season and boasts a strong pass success percentage of 86.9% in 5 appearances. Strong in the tackle and an excellent reader of the game, the anchor-man will be key to repelling Ajax’s offence.

Team News
Star striker Alexandre Lacazette lacked the fitness to make an impact in the first leg, and Lyon could be without their talisman again in the search for a remarkable comeback as he remains a doubt. Memphis Depay hasn’t featured and won’t this season for the French side due to his ineligibility after featuring for Manchester United. Lyon are also without defender Yapou Yanga-Mbwia, the influential midfielder Corentin Tolisso and youngster Mouctar Diakhaby.

Ajax on the other-hand are relatively injury free; defenders Nick Viergever and Joel Veltman were suspended in the first leg but are set to return – leaving Daley Sinkgraven as the only doubt for the huge clash.

The betting man would back Ajax here – a performance from the Dutchmen anywhere near to the gulf in class displayed in the first leg will see the famous side through.
However, Lyon have won all three of their home knockout games this season – scoring 13 goals in the process giving an average of 4.33 goals per game.
Ajax’s exciting young team playing an offensive Lyon side that needs to score at least 3 goals promises attacking intent and surely goals.

Suggested Tips:

  • Skybet Price Boost – Davy Klaassen to score and Ajax to win in 90 mins – 15/2
  • Skybet Price Boost – Bertrand Traore to score from outside the penalty area – 16/1
  • Skybet Scorecast Boost – Nabil Fekir to score first and Lyon to win 3-1 – 50/1
  • Skybet Scorecast Boost (Double Chance) – Kasper Dolberg to score first and either Ajax to win 1-0 or Ajax to win 2-0 – 55/1
  • Skybet RequestAbet Up to 10/1 – Lyon to score 2+ goals and 9+ Lyon corners – 11/4

Manchester United vs Celta Vigo – Match Preview

Europa League, Semi Final 2nd Leg, Old Trafford, Manchester 8.05pm

Manchester United host Spanish side, Celta Vigo, in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final tie. United have the upper hand, having won the first leg 1-0 with a superb Marcus Rashford freekick.

This season’s Premier League campaign has been a disappointing one for Manchester United and their fans, as the appointment of Jose Mourinho hasn’t had the desired effect so far. United fans have now turned to the Europa League as their answer to silverware for the season. Will Manchester United and Mourinho lift the Europa League trophy?

Skybet Outright Winner – Manchester United – 4/7

Celta Vigo are heading into this second leg in ghastly form. The ‘Célticos’ have lost their last five matches in all competitions, scoring just one goal from the penalty spot. The Spanish side will have to score at least once to take the match to extra time, if the home side fail to find the back of the net. The Spanish outfit looked unorganised and tactically dumfounded in the first leg; they were lucky the score line wasn’t more drastic. With their league campaign all but dead, can they keep their season alive and reach the final of the Europa League?

Skybet To Qualify – Celta Vigo – 11/2

Team News

Jose Mourinho’s injury woes continue to put a dent in his all-star squad. The home side will be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rojo, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Timothy Fosu-Mensah who will all be watching from the stands.

A boost for Mourinho is that £30 million defender Eric Bailly is on his way back to fitness after picking up a knock in the Premier League. Will United’s defensive reinforcements be enough to keep Celta Vigo at bay?

Skybet To Keep a Clean Sheet – Manchester United – Evens

Celta Vigo coach, Eduardo Berizzo, has a much smaller list of injured players to deal with. Striker, Giuseppe Rossi is still serving his long spell on the side-lines with cruciate ligament damage.

Berizzo is likely to name a similar side to the one that lost the first leg in a 4-3-3 formation. Number nine, John Guidetti, should spearhead the Celta Vigo attack and will be key if they are to get anything from the visit to Old Trafford.

Horse Racing Preview – Chester & Catterick – 11th May 2017

With a day off yesterday we come back fresh and ready to go, with three selections for today’s horse racing preview coming from Chester and Catterick.

13.50 Chester  – Gately PLC Changing The Legal Landscape Handicap (0-105)

Despite this being over 10f I am still willing to give the advantage to low drawn entries. Sir Michael Stoute has a likeable type here in Khairaat who had a productive juvenile passage notching up wins at Pontefract and Doncaster.

Any horse Dr Marwan Koukash sends to Chester must be respected. Gabrial’s King has run twelve times around Chester recording just the one win two seasons ago when winning the Listed Chester Stakes. Even though now eight, this course brings the best out of him.

Paul Coles Berkshire makes his debut at Chester, the six-year-old missed all of his four year old campaign to injury, but in his early career as a juvenile he was a serious player winning the Royal Lodge and Chesham Stakes, even as a three year old he landed the Darley Stakes.

Sadly, he suffers injuries more times than West Ham’s striker Andy Carroll and though it took him time to find his feet again, he got his reward for consistency when scoring at Windsor last August landing the Listed August Stakes, but he lost his way again and finished off last season with two runs on the all-weather which he never handled.

On the top of his game, he is a useful adversary, whether he can mix it here with some unexposed entries is a question we have to be seen answered.

Khairaat : 2pt win @ 6/4 (BOG)

16.05 Chester  – English Fine Cottons EBF Maiden Stakes (5f)

A sharp 5f around here can catch many out and if you have been unlucky to get a car park draw then your fate is already cooked. Jim Crowley could be on for a good second day when he rides Roger Varian’s Dahik.

The son of Society Rock ran well on debut when just denied at Doncaster twelve days ago when just half a length behind Clive Cox’s Koditime, the fourth place Central City runs in the first race on the card on Wednesday. I expect him to Leave that run well behind him from the plum draw.

Another trainer that seems to thrive around Chester is Tom Dascombe who had Dragon Tail declared in this. A good third on debut at Leicester to Never Back Down, that looked a hot novice stakes and from a good draw can make his presence felt.

Dahik : 2pt win @ SP (BOG)

14.05 Catterick – Annual Badge Holders Guest Day Fillies Novice Auction Stakes (5f)

A very undulated track that takes some getting over the final furlong, this could benefit Sylvester Kirk’s Three Little Birds who put in a good shift when second on debut on the all-weather at Chelmsford.

Now diverting to the turf, she should be able to produce, being sired by prolific sprinting sire Dandy Man. Any dangers should come from James Given’s Mistress of Venice and Karl Burke’s Capla Dancer.

The latter got off the mark at the first time of asking when winning at Ripon, that form was boosted by the runner up Faithful Promise who won well at Musselburgh recently. She was a shock winner that day at 66/1 and I can’t see her at those odds this afternoon.

Mistress of Venice ran a good fifth on debut at Beverley, the runner up franked that form next time out and runs in the first race on this venue on the Wednesday. Royal Crown was also beaten by Emilia James who franked Mistress of Venice’s form line, she is sure to make her presence felt.

Southampton v Arsenal Match Preview

FA Premier League, St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton 7.45pm

An enticing clash awaits at St Mary’s Stadium as FA Cup Finalists Arsenal must win against EFL Cup runners-up Southampton to continue their pursuit of Champions League football.

The Gunners are buoyant after excellent victories against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final and overcoming Manchester United in the Premier League – ending a season record of 25 undefeated games for The Red Devils in the process.

Many fans have been calling for the head of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger due to perceived underperformances by the North-London club in recent times and the Frenchman’s side face an uphill struggle to sneak into a Champions League place this campaign.

The task ahead is clear – sitting 7 points behind Liverpool with two games in hand and 6 points behind City with one game in hand; failure to continue the momentum of late by defeating Southampton will all but quash Arsenal’s hopes of elite European football next term.

Southampton themselves have had a strong season and are once again consolidating a top half finish despite battling the loss of star players and a manager – Sadio Mane and captain Jose Fonte have departed to Liverpool and West Ham respectively alongside the now-Everton manager Ronald Koeman.

Claude Puel has done a stellar job in steadying the ship and lead the Saints to their first cup final since 2002/03 as they were narrowly defeated by Manchester United 3-2 at Wembley whilst additionally challenging to break into the division’s top 8.

Laurent Koscielny will have a late fitness check ahead of tonight’s game

Team News
The main story from Arsenal’s camp is that star defender Laurent Koscielny is battling to find fitness for the match. A late decision on the French international’s calf knock will be made to determine if he will feature.
Shkodran Mustafi and Santi Cazorla will remain unavailable but Granit Xhaka and Lucaz Perez are set to come back into contention.

In-demand centre-back Virgil van Dijk and back-up goalkeeper Alex McCarthy are both still unfit to play but there could be a possible return for striker Charlie Austin; who featured in the u23s on Friday. Matt Target was also involved in that match and is set to fight for a place.

Summary
This promises to be an intriguing match-up as both teams have history – be it recent or late – that lends themselves to struggle in this encounter:

Southampton have failed to score in 3 of their last 4 home matches, and only registered a meagre 10 shots on target across their last 5 games in the Premier League in total. Manolo Gabbiadini was purchased to rectify the problem created in attack while Charlie Austin has been injured but after a strong start of 4 goals in his first 3 appearances the Italian has failed to score in his last 5 games.

Conversely; Arsenal have failed to win in their last 5 league visits to Southampton – the Saints are attempting to complete 3 consecutive home league victories over the Gunners for the first time since 1985.

Add to that Arsenal’s horrendous recent away record of losing 5 of the last 6 away Premier League games and it becomes even more difficult to decide a winner here.

Recent history between the two teams also causes further ambiguity in picking a favourite, Arsenal’s last fixture at St Mary’s resulted in a resounding 5-0 demolishing in favour of Wenger’s side in the 4th round of the FA Cup this season. The last time The Gunners visited in the league, however, was a different story – Southampton emerging victorious in a brilliant 4-0 win.
