Betway – Darts Premier League – Week 14 – 4th May 2017

Betway – Darts Premier League – Week 14 – 4th May 2017

It’s the penultimate week of the Betway Premier League Darts regular season. The Sheffield Arena will host what is sure to be another week of twists and turns in the best darting league on the planet. Night 14 will consist of only four match-ups rather than the usual five; as every player only has two matches remaining to reach the top four spots. The finals at the O2 arena are drawing ever closer meaning every leg in every match is now of huge significance. They can all still qualify for the prestigious finals night and write their names in the history books. However, before they have the chance to book their ticket at the O2 arena, they have this Thursday night to worry about.

Fixture list:

Peter Wright vs Adrian Lewis

If current form was to decide the outcome of this match, then Adrian Lewis would be in all sorts of trouble. The Stoke-born darter has been in woeful form, having lost 7-4 to James Wade and 7-0 to Michael van Gerwen last week in his double-header. Whereas Peter Wright has been building on his impressive start to 2017 with a win over Phil Taylor last week. It’s hard to believe that Lewis will continue this uncharacteristic poor form, as he is capable of overcoming players like Peter Wright when he’s in the right mood. This should be the tightest match of the evening, the finest of margins could get either of these a result.

Skybet Total Legs – Over 10.5 Legs – 4/7

Raymond van Barneveld vs Dave Chisnall

Dave Chisnall is in delightful form, some would say the form of his career. After beating both Phil Taylor and Peter Wright in his double header two weeks ago, the St Helens born darter then drew 6-6 with Michael van Gerwen last week in Birmingham. There’s no doubt Chisnall is the best 180 hitter in the Premier League, if he can continue his improved form on the doubles there’s no reason why he can’t produce another surprise against van Barneveld. The Dutchman needs a win, having lost his last two matches against Anderson and van Gerwen. The match should see plenty of maximums, as Barney and Chizzy are the two highest 180 hitters this season. Chisnall has averaged 4.23 180’s per match and van Barneveld has averaged 3.85 180’s.

Skybet Match Action – Match to have over 7.5 180’s, Checkout to be over 121.5 and over 11.5 Total Legs –11/2

James Wade vs Gary Anderson

Both James Wade and Gary Anderson won last week in Birmingham against tough opposition. Wade beat difficult opposition in Adrian Lewis, to win 7-4 and keep him in the race for a top four spot. Anderson beat Raymond van Barneveld 7-4 in a delightful display of darting dominance. Anderson showcased the flair he often possesses; finishing the match with a three-dart average of 105.47. With both players top four fate hanging in the balance, Anderson should overwhelm the Englishmen with his power scoring and deadly finishing on the doubles.

Skybet Match Treble – Anderson to win the match, hit the outright highest checkout and score more 180’s than Wade – 13/8

Michael van Gerwen vs Phil Taylor

As darting fixtures go, it doesn’t get any bigger than this. The greatest to ever grace the darts board against the world number one. Phil Taylor has been out of sorts as of late, having lost last week to Peter Wright 7-3 in an abysmal performance for his standards. Michael van Gerwen will be looking to sustain his performance from his last outing; beating Adrian Lewis 7-0. These two always spur each other on to perform at the best of their ability when they face off so expect maximums and high checkouts from both.

Cardiff City vs Newcastle United – Match Preview

Cardiff City vs Newcastle United – Match Preview –

Skybet Championship, Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff 7.45pm

Newcastle travel to South Wales this Friday to keep their hunt going for the Sky Bet Championship title. Rafa Benitez’ men secured promotion back to the Premier League earlier this week with a 4-1 win over Preston North End. They’ll be searching for another three points as they aim to chase down league leaders, Brighton and Hove Albion.

Cardiff are currently occupying 13th in the league standings, 14 points from the drop zone. Cardiff had a goalless draw in their last outing in the Sky Bet Championship against relegation strugglers Wigan. Cardiff will now be playing for pride in their final two matches of the season with no silverware or play-offs in sight for the Bluebirds.

Team News

Allan McGregor will return for the Bluebirds after missing out on the 0-0 draw with Wigan over illness.

Another boost for Cardiff, as Kenneth Zohore is back and fit to play after being rested for the last match. Zohore has 11 goals in all competitions this season; making him Cardiff’s top scorer.

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer –  Kenneth Zohore to score anytime in 90mins – 13/8

Newcastle manager, Rafa Benitez has confirmed there will be several changes in personnel for his side. Jamaal Lascelles, Vurnon Anita, Grant Hanley, Jesus Gamez and Matt Ritchie have all been rested for Friday’s match-up due to a heavy work load and minor injuries. With plenty of key defenders missing, could this see Newcastle struggle at the back?

Skybet To Score –  Cardiff to score 2+ goals – 2/1

Some more unwelcome news for the Toon Army, as Dwight Gayle is still side-lined with a hamstring injury. However, Newcastle haven’t struggled for goals in his absence as Ayoze Perez scored two in their 4-1 win over Preston North End earlier this week.

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Ayoze Perez to score anytime in 90mins – 9/4

With Cardiff having very little to play for other than pride and Newcastle still scraping at the feet of league leaders Brighton and Hove Albion, it’s hard to see Newcastle not picking up three points. Newcastle have scored 80 goals in the Championship campaign so far and Cardiff have conceded 59, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the ball hit the back of the Cardiff net a few times.

Skybet Full Time Result – Newcastle to win in 90mins – 23/20

Newcastle will look to keep their off – field antics away from the spotlight on Friday evening, as the club has found their stadium and head offices raided by HMRC under suspicion of tax fraud. Benitez has stated it is business as usual for the players despite the messy situation.

Cardiff have the home advantage, a factor that has proved ever so key this season in the Championship. With that alongside Newcastle’s extensive list of absentees, Cardiff will feel they can burst Newcastle’s bubble and hand the title to Brighton and Hove Albion this Friday with a home win.

Betway – Darts Premier League – Week 13 – 27th April 2017

Betway – Darts Premier League – Week 13 – 27th April 2017

As the Betway Darts Premier League Finals at the O2 Arena draw ever closer, the race for the top 4 spots is heating up. Thursday 27th April sees the Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham, play host to Night 13 of the Betway Premier League Darts. The night will see Michael Van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis play twice, with Mighty Mike looking to continue his red-hot form after defeating fellow countryman, Raymond van Barneveld, 7-2 last week.

Adrian Lewis will be looking to bounce back after an inconsistent run of form. After igniting the Liverpool crowd two weeks ago with yet another Premier League nine darter and a 7-4 win over van Barneveld, the 32-year-old capitulated on the checkouts last week; hitting only three of his 12 checkout chances and losing 7-3 to 7th placed, Dave Chisnall.

Fixture List-

Betway Darts Premier League – James Wade vs Adrian Lewis

James Wade will look to keep his Premier League finals dream alive in what could be a season defining match with Adrian Lewis. The Machine will have some confidence approaching the match, as he beat Lewis 7-4 earlier this season with a wonderful display of darts. It’s hard to see Wade getting past Lewis however, who often turns up the heat on his opponent at this stage of the season; with maximums and high checkouts.

Skybet – Match Treble – Adrian Lewis to win the match and hit the highest match checkout and score more 180’s than Wade- 5/2

Betway Darts Premier League – Dave Chisnall vs Michael van Gerwen

Dave Chisnall illustrated his fighting spirit last week with two monumental victories over Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis. However, Chisnall faces his toughest opponent in the league this Thursday. Chisnall leads the league for 180s, a factor that not only makes him a bookies nightmare but also a tough opponent for anyone to face. Michael van Gerwen has gone from strength to strength and continues to dominate the PDC circuit, it’s tough to see van Gerwen not getting a win here.

Betway Darts Premier League – Phil Taylor vs Peter Wright

Taylor will be looking to close the gap on Wright in 2nd, sitting one place and two points below Snakebite in the table. Wright has been in majestic form this season, having won the UK Open earlier this year; his first televised title. Taylor will have the upper hand on his opponent however, having beaten him both times they’ve met in 2017. It’s the closest match-up of the night, fine margins will decide this one.

Skybet – Match Result – Draw7/2

Betway Darts Premier League – Gary Anderson vs Raymond van Barneveld

Anderson and van Barneveld face off in a crucial match, both the Scotsman and the Dutchman are on 14 points and are occupying 4th and 5th in the table; Gary edging above Raymond on leg difference. This game should produce the entertainment it promises on paper, and should also provide plenty of 180s. van Barneveld has averaged 4.08 180s this season and Anderson has averaged 3.5, wouldn’t be surprising to see plenty of maximums from these two on Thursday.

Skybet – Total 180’s – Over (7.5) – 5/6

Betway Darts Premier League – Adrian Lewis vs Michael van Gerwen

The power hitting of these two always creates a fast-paced, entertaining match of darts. The two drew earlier in the Premier League campaign, however more is at stake in this match. Van Gerwen is heavy favourite for this match-up; as he always is however Lewis is capable of challenging van Gerwen. A lot could be riding on this match, with results earlier in the night possibly affecting league positions. Both van Gerwen and Lewis are renowned for their high checkout scoring and so expect no different this time around.
