Manchester United vs Celta Vigo – Match Preview

Manchester United vs Celta Vigo – Match Preview

Europa League, Semi Final 2nd Leg, Old Trafford, Manchester 8.05pm

Manchester United host Spanish side, Celta Vigo, in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final tie. United have the upper hand, having won the first leg 1-0 with a superb Marcus Rashford freekick.

This season’s Premier League campaign has been a disappointing one for Manchester United and their fans, as the appointment of Jose Mourinho hasn’t had the desired effect so far. United fans have now turned to the Europa League as their answer to silverware for the season. Will Manchester United and Mourinho lift the Europa League trophy?

Skybet Outright Winner – Manchester United – 4/7

Celta Vigo are heading into this second leg in ghastly form. The ‘Célticos’ have lost their last five matches in all competitions, scoring just one goal from the penalty spot. The Spanish side will have to score at least once to take the match to extra time, if the home side fail to find the back of the net. The Spanish outfit looked unorganised and tactically dumfounded in the first leg; they were lucky the score line wasn’t more drastic. With their league campaign all but dead, can they keep their season alive and reach the final of the Europa League?

Jose Mourinho’s injury woes continue to put a dent in his all-star squad. The home side will be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rojo, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Timothy Fosu-Mensah who will all be watching from the stands.

A boost for Mourinho is that £30 million defender Eric Bailly is on his way back to fitness after picking up a knock in the Premier League. Will United’s defensive reinforcements be enough to keep Celta Vigo at bay?

Celta Vigo coach, Eduardo Berizzo, has a much smaller list of injured players to deal with. Striker, Giuseppe Rossi is still serving his long spell on the side-lines with cruciate ligament damage.

Berizzo is likely to name a similar side to the one that lost the first leg in a 4-3-3 formation. Number nine, John Guidetti, should spearhead the Celta Vigo attack and will be key if they are to get anything from the visit to Old Trafford.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid – Match Preview

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid – Match Preview

Champions League Semi Final, 2nd Leg, Vincente Calderon, Madrid 7.45pm

Atletico Madrid host their rivals across town, Real Madrid, in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final clash. The Vicente Calderon will see its last ever Champions League match as ‘los Colchoneros’ will be moving into their new stadium next season. The fixture is always a fiercely tested one, with both sets of fans and players wanting to one-up their local rivals and a place in the Champions League final is at stake this time around. The first leg was a very one-sided affair, as Real Madrid cruised home with a 3-0 victory; their Portuguese talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, scored yet another hattrick. Will Ronaldo add salt to the wounds in the second leg and finish the job he started for Real Madrid?

The home side will be looking for the performance of their careers to scrape back from the 3-0 aggregate. A comeback would see them write their names in Champions League history in a campaign this year that has already seen a few extraordinary comebacks, Barcelona’s against PSG being the most memorable. Will this Champions League campaign have yet another miracle in store?

With such a large task on their hands, Atletico will be looking to their key men to help them overcome the three-goal deficit. Antione Griezmann has scored five goals and set up two in his 11 Champions League appearances this season, will the Frenchman be on the scoresheet against for his side?

Diego Simeone is still without Augusto Matias Fernandez, Juanfran, Jose Maria Giminez and Bernabe who are all still side-lined.

It is likely they will start the match with a similar outfit to the first leg, with the likes of Carrasco and Koke looking to provide service for the strikers. Could this see the home-side hit the back of the Real Madrid net more than once?

Zinedine Zidane has some big names unfit to play; with Gareth Bale, Pepe and Daniel Carvajal all unavailable to play.

However, Real Madrid have strength and depth in their squad. The likes of Nacho and Danilo could all play if Zidane wants to defend the lead gained in the first leg.

West Ham vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview

West Ham vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview

FA Premier League, Olympic Stadium, London 8pm

Tottenham will continue their pursuit of Chelsea at the top of the table this Friday night. Spurs will visit the Olympic Stadium to face a West Ham side who have been unimaginative and dull as of late. The Hammers have had a mediocre season by their standards having drawn their last three matches against Sunderland, Everton and Stoke. Tottenham on the other hand, have won their last nine Premier League matches on the bounce making them a force to be reckoned with at the business end of the season.

The last time these two met earlier in the season, it was quite the spectacle. Two very late Harry Kane goals saw the North Londoners steal all three points in a match West Ham had been leading for most of the match.

West Ham have several players who are unavailable for selection this Friday. Michail Antonio, Pedro Obiang, Angelo Ogbonna and Gokhan Tore are all still nursing injuries whilst Arthur Masuaku, Diafra Sakho and Andy Carroll could all be available for selection. Could they return and bolster the West Ham attack?

Tottenham’s Harry Winks and Erik Lamela are still side-lined with injury. However, promising news for Spurs fans as Danny Rose is close to making a full recovery but it is unknown whether he’ll be risked this Friday night. Can Spurs keep a clean sheet without their first choice left-back?

Key Players

Kane will remain a key player for the visitors, he’s scored 21 goals so far in the Premier League campaign and will be relied on to find the back of the net yet again this Friday.

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Harry Kane – 4/7

West Ham’s record signing, Andre Ayew, has been at the spearhead of the Hammers’ attack in the past few matches. His work-rate and flair often makes him a headache for defences, will he be creating more headaches for Mauricio Pochettino’s men?

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Andre Ayew – 3/1

After Spurs experienced the ecstasy of overcoming their North London rivals last weekend, they will be full of confidence heading to the Olympic Stadium. Their potent attack could prove too much for the West Ham defence, it’s tough to see Tottenham not getting the win.
