Horse Racing Preview – Sedgefield – 28th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Sedgefield with two selections from the meeting.

13.20 Sedgefield – Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Handicap Chase (26.2f)

Camilla’s Wish (128)
Velvet Cognac (116)
Harry Hunt (110)

Graham McPherson’s Harry Hunt has made a pleasing start to this years campaign with a second at Fontwell which was soon rewarded when landing a 21.5f contest at Ayr. With only a 3lb penalty to deal with, he should be on the premises once more. One trainer in here who I feel is very under rated is Sam Drake who saddles the top weight here in Cabragh.

The second season chaser won over course and distance last December when off a 25lb lower mark, he also took a three mile contest at Bangor the following month off 105, penalised with a 9lb penalty he has still run creditably being placed on two occasions over three miles. The selection though comes in the way of the Micky Hammond trained Camilla’s Wish.

The ex irish chaser who represented the John Dreaper yard made her journey across the water and new surroundings over the summer. She won two hurdle races straight off the bat at Fakenham and Uttoxeter and made a pleasing addition back to chasing when recording her third win on the bounce at Cartmel over 25.5f. She returned to the chasing ranks when once more recording a win over the same trip at her local Cartmel course.

She returned after a few months off and competed over 29f here at Sedgefield in the Durham National finishing last. The ground I feel is the key for her, she definitely thrives more with soft to heavy under foot, the ground here could see her out once more, however she drops back in trip and I would like to think she will be on the premises under 7lb claiming jockey Becky Smith.

CAMILLA’S WISH : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

14.20 Sedgefield – Betfred Home Of ‘Goals Galore’ Chase (Novices Limited Handicap) (16.2f)

Derintother Yank (135)
Delegate (131)

Donald McCain’s six year old Derintother Yank should be landing this race in fairness, It only took two starts to record his first win over fences when landing a two mile contest around the Novice ranks at Carlisle when off a rating of 124. He did not disappoint when running Nuts Well within three parts of a length again at Carlisle when under a 7lb penalty. He has run just the once at Sedgefield as a hurdler when finishing second to 120 rated hurdler JustforJames.

He is not exposed around this sphere and in my opinion is the one they all have to beat uner Will Kennedy. There are always dangers and Delegate of Keith Dagliesh’s was seen last time pulling up over two and a half miles. Prior to that though he was seen winning over 17.5f on soft ground wen trained in Ireland by none other than Gordon Elliott. Now The Irish top trainer does not let horses go that easily and had a quiet a reasonable career at the yard winning three times as a hurdler and once as a chaser, makes new yard debut this afternoon.

DERINTOTHER YANK : 1.5pt Win @ 9/2 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview – Kempton & Ludlow – 27th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Kempton and Ludlow with one selection from each meeting.

14.00 Kempton – OLBG ‘Mares’ Hurdle (Listed) (24.5f)

Jers Girl (153)
Morello Royale (149)

Gary Cromwell’s Jers Girl is already recognised as a double Grade 1 winner, she has run within two lengths to Gordon Elliott’s Apple Jade fifteen days ago in the Grade 2 Lismullen Hurdle which potentially makes her unbeatable right, however we are taking it on trust that she gets three miles.

This is why I want to take her on here with an outsider, the favourite has a poor record in this race since 2007 (2-9), the last three years has been won twice by double figure prices and this time around I am willing to put forward the 2015 winner of this race, Morello Royale. Colin Tizzard’s five year old has come into form at the right time, her second last time at Newbury around the chasing ranks saw her finish two and a quarter lengths behind 139 rated Strong Pursuit, she even had 145 rated Beat That of Nicky Henderson’s well beaten by twenty two lengths.

Personally it is a shame to not see Aidan Coleman take the reigns here, but we have to do with another reasonable jockey in Harry Cobden, he has only ridden her the once when down the field at Aintree when competing in this years Gaskells Hurdle, she got within two lengths to 150 rated Desert Cry and probably did not handle the big field to be fair. Now back to a smaller field she is still well handicapped off 137 only 5lb higher than when winning this two years ago.

MORELLO ROYALE : 1pt each way @ 14/1 (BOG)

Good Man Vinnie (113)
Spirit of Hale (109)
Silent Man (108)

Paul Henderson’s dual point winner ran well around Kempton on chase debut when finishing sixth behind far superior horses, that was far more competitive than this and I would expect him to make his presence felt now stepping back up in trip this afternoon.

Recent winner Silent Man probably has plenty in hand in the way he won at Huntingdon under Sean Bowen, he had to be galvanised by the jockey to keep up to his work after being headed on two occasions, but showed tenacity and strength to get home by a comfortable seven lengths in the end beating a horse rated 28lb higher, has to be feared if market speaks volumes again.

Jenny Candish is one of the shrewdest trainers on the national chase circuit, Spirit of Hale might be 0-9 on his resume, however he diverts to the larger obstacles here and on debut he could have a say in the finish if handling the step up in trip. Colin Tizzard has Leg Lock Luke, the seven year old got off the chase mark at the eighth attempt when winning over the distance at Taunton four weeks ago, she might have more improvement to come, but has to overcome her 6lb penalty to do so this time around.

GOOD MAN VINNIE : 2pt Win @ 9/2 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview – Uttoxeter & Navan – 26th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Uttoxeter and Navan with a selection from each meeting.

14.15 Uttoxeter – Uttoxeter & Cheadle Voice Handicap Chase (18.1f)

Kerry Lee’s Krackatoa King will relish stepping back up in trip this afternoon, his last run three weeks ago saw him finish a wayward eighteen lengths behind eventual winner Daklondike of David Pipes, he took a long time to really get into the race and probably lost it a long way from home, this extra quarter of a mile should give him that opportunity to grind this out under Dicky Johnson this afternoon.

One that I do fear is Colin Tizzard’s Bears Rails. he has failed to finish on his past two outings and looks up against it on paper, however with the booking of Aidan Coleman you would probably give him a bigger chance than many in this race. The old boy in the race and bottom weight is Brian Llewellyn’s Hansupfordetroit who actually is still capable of running a solid race around this company this afternoon. He does have a bit to find at the weights with a few of these, however if he handles the longer trip he could out run those odds.

KRACKATOA KING : 3pt Win @ 11/10 (BOG)

15.35 Navan – Coolmore N.H Sires Irish EBF Mares Flat Race {Listed) (16f)

A few stand out stats here for me which revolves around the jockey bookings, there are a few coming into this that have had a shuffle around on bookings, let’s start with Crackerdancer, in all three rides she has been ridden by Timothy Brett who has two wins and a second on her, they change bookings, Katie Walsh has elected to not ride Jessica Harrington’s The Princetonian, however will be on Biddy The Boss for Gavin Cromwell, David Dunsden stays loyal to Willie Mullins Redhotfilypeppers.

So for me if Patrick has been given permission to stay loyal to Lady Ischia I personally think that is a tip in itself. There is no better judge of a horse around this sphere than Patrick Mullin’s, you have your Nina Carberry’s, your Katie Walsh’s etc etc, but not everyone has the ability to switch off a horse in a bumper than Patrick, Lady Ischia could not of been more impressive when winning under rules on debut at Naas two weeks ago when beating Best of Dubai by twelve lengths. Gordon Elliot’s horse that day was in receipt of 10lb and still he could not get close to the selection, this time around just conceding 4lb it should be a done deal in my opinion.

Gordon Elliott has been racking up four timers all over Ireland recently, and he has a few good chances on today’s card, his representation here is Best of Dubai and Moonlight Escape, now the latter looks the main danger here, second to Biddy the Boss at Fairyhouse, she gave the formline a boost when winning on her next run at Galway by six lengths. She was eased by J J Codd on that occasion, however she gets the strong handling of another jockey here in Nina Carberry, but I feel she will have to step up to be the selection despite getting a 3lb pull at the weights.

I feel that with Patrick Mullins staying loyal to Lady Ischia speaks volumes and I expect her to be hard to beat, Crackendancer will relish the conditions which saw her win twice at Limerick and over course and distance, but will have to give weight all round, Biddy The Boss and Moonlight Escape have to respected especially the latter is strong market support.

Lady Ischia : 2pt Win @ 7/4 (BOG)
