Horse Racing Preview – Ascot – 25th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Ascot & Haydock this afternoon.

13.30 Ascot – Trisoft Mares Handicap Hurdle (21.5f)

River Arrow (128)
Whatsthatallabout (127)
On Demand (126)

A very tight mares hurdle here, Neil Mulholland’s Whatsthatallabout racked up a spin of three wins at the back end of last season and starts this campaign 4lb lower than when rounding off last year when winning off a mark of 123 at Bangor, she has to be respected here. On Demand ran a creditable fifth two weeks ago when behind Lamanver Odyssey at Wincanton. I am not convinced though that she actually stays this trip.

The selection comes from the Tim Symond’s yard in River Arrow, she finished off last season with two goods on the AW at Southwell around the novice ranks. She finished off the season when third to Snow Leopardess in a valuable Grade 2 contest at Newbury, she can make her presence felt in this weaker contest.

RIVER ARROW : 2pt Win @ 5/1 (BOG)

12.40 Haydock – Betfair Each Way Edge Handicap Chase (28.3f)

Emperors Choice (136)
Royale Knight (135)
Hainan (132)

Venetia William’s Emperor’s Choice has pulled up more times in the last year, however the last time he turned up here over course and distance he was successful when winning off a mark 135, he is coming into this 8lb lower than that win and an eye catching booking of Tom Scudamore.

Royale Knight will have to concede over a stone here to the selection. He made a pleasing re-appearance when finishing fourth over three miles when diverting back to hurdles. Being no stranger to these competitive distances he has to come into the equation, last but not least Hainan, Sue Smith’s six year old will step into unknown territory when tackling over three miles for the first time this afternoon.

With a win over three miles at the turn of the year when off a mark of 118, however he has failed to show close to that form now off a 14lb higher mark.

EMPERORS CHOICE : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview – Kempton – 22nd November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Kempton with two selections from the meeting.

18.40 Kempton – British Stallion Studs EBF Hyde Stakes (Listed) (8f)

Mr Owen (113)
Keystroke (112)
Stormy Antarctic (112)

An extremely tight Listed race here and the best race on the card. Stormy Antarctic took a Listed contest at Chantilly on the all weather last month which was his first success since landed the Group 3 Craven Stakes last April. His career summary when dropping into Listed company reads 22 and having to concede weight all round here he could be looking at place money once more.

Jeremy Noseda won this back in 2013 with Sloane Avenue and is once more well represented here with Keystroke who ran well when runner up in this company when behind David O’Meara’s Salateen, His good all weather form finishing out of the frame on only one occasion which came at Lingfield last time out when finishing midfield in the All Weathers Mile Championships when once more beaten by Salateen. He will have to step up again, however on my ratings he is 9lb well in on what he has achieved at this level.

The selection will be an each way shout with David Simcock’s Mr Owen. He is 2-2 around Listed company with both wins coming at Deauville when trained in France. Joined Qatar Racing back in February of this year, he probably has not shined as expected after a moderate showing in two runs at the Dubai Carnival, however did show improvement when switching to turf at Doncaster back in October when finishing third to Sir Dancealot who went on to finish fifth in the Wentworth Stakes.

He is hard to catch right and needs to show his potential before leaving France, this is not the easiest of races to bring that on, however the booking of Oisin Murphy is a plus and if hitting the frame that would be a solid effort in a competitive field.

19.10 Kempton – 32Red Handicap (15.7f)

Rock Steady (100)
Lord George (100)
Every Chance (96)

I could not split Rock Steady & Lord George to land this race, however the slight verdict goes to Rock Steady who I feel stepping up to this trip just might bring out a win in him. Kieran Shoemark knows him extremely well and his win off 91 around this time last year is probably sufficient enough to be involved here. He has run well on both occasions when visiting Kempton with two second spots off 85 & 87, despite being rated almost 10lb higher now there still looks a solid run for Roger Charlton’s yard.

Lord George also comes into the reckoning, it is slightly off putting that James Fanshawe seems too quiet at present, as the season winds down and the all weather season progresses I am sure he will be back amongst the winners in due course. His entry here has had two runs around here with a 50% success rate which came in a 0-95 last September, he goes well this time of year and there is no reason why he should not run a solid race, just the yards form puts me off.

Finally Every Chance who represents Jamie Osborne here, a consistent visitor to the all weather his sole run here also resulted in a runners up spot in a 0-85 handicap back in February when beaten by 69 rated Kingthistle. Tackling claiming company last time does have it’s concerns and will be hard to withstand some better rated individuals here.

Horse Racing Preview – Southwell, Fakenham & Lingfield – 21st November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Fakenham, Southwell & Lingfield with a selection from each meeting.

12.30 Southwell – ROA/Racing Post Owners Jackpot Handicap Chase (20.2f)

Manwell (130)
Mondo Cane (106)

Now if Sam Drake’s Manwell puts his best foot forward here he should have plenty in hand and smashing this race out of the park. His making his handicap chase bow this afternoon and if he shows an inkling of his run when getting within eight lengths of 133 rated Chirico Vallis of Neil Mulholland’s he has to go close here. He was a very consistent hurdler and the softer the better.

Another in this field that looks way over priced is Charlie Pogson’s Mondo Cane who despite pulling up on his last chase run, his run over course and distance when runner up to Sam Drakes Attimo, he would have to have a shout.

MANWELL : 2pt Win @ 6/1 (BOG)

13.50 Fakenham – East Rudham Amateur Riders Novices Handicap Hurdle (16f)

Bardd (119)
Cocker (111)

I am not the biggest fan of four runner affairs, as 7/10 times we have seen a surprise result, however Nicky Henderson’s son of Dylan Thomas should have far too much class to get beat here. His Handicap debut did not go to plan when labouring in the closing stages at Ascot over a further trip, drops three furlongs and off 110 it is his to lose.

Cocker gets over a stone form the selection here, with a good third already at the course last year he has to be feared slightly returning to a favourable course.

BARDD : 3pt Win @ 8/15 (BOG)

15.40 Lingfield – Betway Apprentice Handicap (12f)

Relevant : (73)
What A Welcome (68)
I’m Running Late (67)

What A Welcome comes here off the back of a solid win last time out here at Lingfield over 10f, Joey Haynes had him well poised to strike at the furlong pole and went away in the closing stages to record a one and a half length victory, with only a 4lb penalty rise and the services of Charlie Bennett in the plate he looks the one to beat.

Relevant also deserves respect after running consistently, the daughter of So You Think ran a good second over 12.5f last time out at Chelmsford when behind 73 rated Love Conquers of Ralph Beckett’s. Patrick Piley takes over here for the first time and if the cheekpieces sharpen her up she will be thereabouts.

RELEVANT : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)
