Brighton and Hove Albion vs West Ham United – Match Preview

Brighton and Hove Albion vs West Ham United
Friday 5th
 October 2018
FA Premier League, Amex Stadium

Live on Sky Sports Premier League – Kick-Off: 20:00 GMT

Brighton vs West Ham: West Ham will be looking to build on their impressive win against Manchester United last weekend when they travel down to the South Coast to face Brighton on Friday night.

The Hammers recent upturn in form will be a welcome sight to Manuel Pelligrini after they lost their opening four games. A win at Everton was followed up with a draw against Chelsea before they deservedly beat Manchester United 3-1 on Saturday. Marco Arnautovic was again in the thick of the action, providing the telling goal to re-establish their two-goal cushion. The main difference in the last three games has been the Hammers’ balance in midfield. Declan Rice, Pedro Obiang and Mark Noble have formed an effective partnership, which has made them more solid in the middle of the park. The real conundrum will come when Jack Wilshere returns in a few weeks from his ankle injury.

With so many new signings, it was always going to take time for West Ham to gel. Another man who has impressed in recent weeks is young French defender Issa Diop. The 21-year-old, who captained France at U19 level, has been a revelation at the back, forming a strong partnership with fellow new arrival Fabian Balbuena.

Brighton are looking for their first league win in six games when they take on West Ham. The Seagulls have lost their last two against Tottenham and Manchester City, but also dropped points against Fulham and Southampton beforehand. Chris Hughton’s mission will once again be to guide the club to another year in the division. Whilst that will always be a tough ask, they have the ability in their squad to avoid the drop; Glenn Murray’s goals will be vital. The 35-year-old has four goals in six starts this season, having notched 14 goals last season.

Kevin Friend is the referee for this game. The Englishman has officiated our league matches this season, accumulating an average booking points total of 15. Therefore, I would advise a maximum total of 40+ points for this fixture.

Brighton aren’t in the best of form at the moment, unlike West Ham. Last season their home form was vital in keeping them up, which has made them tough to beat on home soil. As a result, I’m plumping for a draw in this game.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs West Ham United will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Premier League with kick off at 20:00 GMT.

Napoli vs Liverpool – Match Preview

Napoli vs Liverpool
Wednesday 3rd October 2018, Stadio Sao Paolo
UEFA Champions League – Group C Qualifier

BT Sport 3 – 20:00 GMT

Napoli vs Liverpool: Liverpool will be looking to follow up on their dramatic 3-2 win over PSG last time out when they face Napoli in their second Champions League group game.

The Reds made the perfect start to their new European campaign as they beat PSG 3-2 thanks to a 90th-minute Roberto Firmino strike. That win has given Liverpool some early breathing room in Group C. With such a tough group, it is vital Jurgen Klopp’s side make the most of home advantage. Now they face a trip to Napoli, one of the toughest away trips in Europe. Liverpool, however, are in their best form since Klopp arrived at Anfield. They remain unbeaten in the Premier League, after Daniel Sturridge’s sublime 88th-minute equaliser at Stamford Bridge at the weekend. That draw did see them drop to second, but they’re only behind Manchester City on goal difference.

Sturridge has proven he can be a valuable asset to the Reds this season. With so many games, the Englishman will be needed to contribute from the bench. He started and scored in their win against PSG, proving he is still capable of causing problems on the biggest stage. There has never been any question over his ability, but injuries have hampered his progress over the last three seasons. Now, he seems to be rediscovering his groove, which can only be a good thing for Liverpool and England supporters.

Napoli were held to a 0-0 draw with Red Star Belgrade in their opening match in Group C. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have continued their winning form from last season in Serie A, however. They currently sit in second place, with 15 points from their opening seven games. Napoli are already six points behind Juventus, but having lost Maurizio Sarri and Jorgino in the summer, it’s fair to say they are performing well. They have won three of their last five games in all competition, with last Saturday’s defeat to Juventus their only blip.

Viktor Kassai is the referee for this game. The Hungarian has plenty of experience in Europe, having officiated three group games last season, including Liverpool’s game against Maribor. He has an average card total of 4.61 across 144 international games. Therefore, I would advise a maximum total of 60+ points for this fixture.

Liverpool have endured a tough run of fixtures with more to come. They’ve played Chelsea twice in a week and host Manchester City on Sunday. As a result, I think this game will end in a draw, which would still be a positive result for Klopp’s men.

Napoli vs Liverpool will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 3 with kick-off at 20:00 GMT.

Prediction: Napoli 1-1 Liverpool

Manchester United vs Valencia – Match Preview

Manchester United vs Valencia
Tuesday 2nd October 2018, Old Trafford
UEFA Champions League – Group H Qualifier

BT Sport 2 – 20:00 GMT

Manchester United vs Valencia: Manchester United host Valencia at Old Trafford looking to return to winning ways by extending their unbeaten start in the Champions League.

Jose Mourinho’s side crashed to yet another damaging defeat at the weekend, this time losing 3-1 to West Ham. That leaves the club with just one win inform games; with their last victory coming in this competition. The United boss made some big selections decisions, leaving both Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard out of their 18. The Chilean has struggled for form since his move from Arsenal last January; he’s a shadow of the player he was for the Gunners. Sanchez, like United, seems to lack any rhythm or understanding to his play at the moment, which typified where the club are.

Mourinho’s side have an identity crisis, which is not something you usually say about his side. Granted, the Portuguese’s philosophy is contrasting to United’s of old, but they aren’t even looking like a Mourinho side currently. Defensively, they are a shambles. Even though Mourinho was desperate for a centre back in the summer, they should be performing better than they are currently. He has already spent over £50M on CBs, as he brought Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly to the club, who have both flattered to deceive.

Valencia will be desperate to pick up a result in Manchester, having lost their opening games 2-0 to Juventus. In the league, they are unbeaten in five, although they won just one of those games. They currently sit in 14th place, with only eight points from seven games, leaving them four points behind the top four. Their main issue has been scoring goals, they’ve only conceded six in those seven matches, but notched only six. Rodrigo Moreno was their main supply of goals last year with 20, however, he has just one this season, which was six matches ago.

Slavko Vincic the referee for this game. The Slovenian took charge of Burnley’s Europa League tie with Olympiacos earlier this season and officiated two Champions League games last season. In 160 international matches, he has an average of 3.85 cards per game. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.

The one silver lining for United is that Valencia are in just as poor form as them. As a result, this offers them a fantastic opportunity to turn their season around and grab a second Champions League win in as many games.

Manchester United vs Valencia will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 2 with kick-off at 20:00 GMT.
