Newcastle vs. Leeds United Match Preview
Newcastle Utd vs Leeds Utd – Match Preview – Friday 14th April 2017
SkyBet Championship, St James’s Park, Newcastle

The Championship season is nearing to a close and it’s all still to play for. Promotion is not yet decided and 2nd plays 5th as two sides chasing just that in Newcastle United and Leeds United do battle at St James’ Park on Good Friday.

Rafa Benitez’s men have been leading the pack (along with Brighton) all campaign and are nearing the finishing line for automatic promotion back to the Premier League immediately after their relegation last year.

Leeds are aiming for the play-offs and their fantastic season sees them 5 points ahead of 7th placed Fulham with 5 games to go and the best goal difference in the play-off positions. They should see the job through but The Championship’s unpredictably means nothing is ever guaranteed. A win at St James’ would almost solidify Leeds’ lay-off spot.

Team News –
Jack Colback and Isaac Hayden are both injury doubts for Newcastle

Dwight Gayle’s omission is the biggest talking point – the Championship’s second highest scorer this season with 22 goals is set to miss out after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

Jack Colback (virus) and Isaac Hayden (ankle) are both also doubts.

Goalkeeper Marco Silvestri’s knee surgery could potentially see him out for the rest of the season, seeing young Peacock-Farrell take his place on the bench. Tyler Denton (knee) is still ruled out and Liam Cooper will be serving the third of his 6-game ban.

The better news for Leeds fans is that they could see Liam Bridcutt and Hadi Sacko returning back to the side.

Players to Watch –
Danger Men: Chris Wood (Leeds) & Jonjo Shelvey (Newcastle). Photo Credit: Mirror Newspaper

Danger Men: Chris Wood (Leeds) & Jonjo Shelvey (photographed from his Swansea days now at Newcastle).         Photo Credit: Mirror Newspaper

Jonjo Shelvey has been key to most of Newcastle’s success this campaign, orchestrating moves and running the centre of midfield in most games. He has chipped in with 5 goals and 8 assists and is unquestionably capable of moments of pure magic; as shown by his wonderful free-kick against Brighton and his 25-yard strike against QPR both curled into the top corner, to name a couple.

There is no doubting who Leeds’ dangerman is. Chris Wood has been in stunning form this season for The Whites – no Championship player has scored more than the New Zealand vice-captain with a wonderful 24 goals so far. Alongside his 3 assists the 25-year old has directly contributed to a massive 49% of Leeds’ goals in the league this year. Wood was recently named in the Football League Team of the Season – highlighting his importance and value.

Summary –

Both teams have identical form over the last 5 (2W, 1D, 2L) and 10 matches (5W, 3D, 2L).
Leeds have only won once in their last 9 league meetings with Newcastle, losing 7 and drawing the other so will be fiercely looking to improve that statistic.

Two of England’s sleeping giants, a win for either could be a catalyst for promotion back to the Premier League in what both clubs hope will be the beginning of a much desired resurrection back to former glories.

Horse Racing Preview Windsor 10th April 2017

Horse Racing Preview Windsor 10th April 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Windsor, with one selection in the 2.30pm.

14.30 Windsor – Windsor Vehicle Leasing Maiden Stakes

Over the years, it has been well documented that Richard Hannon trained maiden runners usually take the first race in the card at Windsor, or the first maiden.

There is value in their first maiden runner at a track they have made their own over the years and their representative is Bristol Missile. He was a £140K plus yearling purchase by Kittens Joy out of Dearest Girl.

On pedigree, he should find this 10f index very capable being from a family who had 14f-16f winners in their bloodline, currently 12/1 which is a very attractive each way price. Key Bid would have to be noted if any support comes in for the Charlie Appleby runner.

The Godolphin son of a Dubawi colt costing in the region of 350K plus, is a half-brother to 6f winner Strictly Silca, but they also have Rajdesh in the field who had two runs as a juvenile which resulted as a runner up on the all-weather and went on to finish third in a maiden at Doncaster, both runs over 7f, now takes the step up to 10.5f this afternoon and is an interesting contender.

One I want to give a chance to is the Ralph Beckett trained Mistress Quickly, she finished a solid fourth in a Nottingham maiden as a juvenile over an extended mile, she shaped well that day with promise to come. She is nicely bred by Masterscraftsman out of In My Life and I would expect her to run very well and show improvement from a yard that are in early season form.

Mistress Quickly: 1.5pt win @ 4/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview Doncaster 1st April 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Doncaster – 1st April 2017

13.50 Doncaster – Betway Cammidge Trophy Stakes

Today’s Horse Racing Preview is from Doncaster. The flat season has finally arrived as we enter another season on the level. The first race to take centre stage is The Cammidge Trophy at 1.50pm with Richard Fahey’s Birchwood put in as the tissue favourite.

Last season’s Chester plate winner lost his way towards the end of the 2016 campaign at pattern level, he returns to listed company this afternoon and the dead 6f index for the first time since landing a conditional’s race at Newbury.

Kevin Ryan supplies the hood for the first time with Ride Like The Wind. Trained by Freddie Head last season, he will make his second appearance for the new yard and if performing up to his French win last season he has claims of hitting the frame.

Tupi had some smart form on his resume evict including landing the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes last season. Since then he has struggled to make an impact, but if repeating his Abernant Stakes run on this ground and distance he is a live threat.

The ground is the key for Mick Channon’s Mobsta who is returning to land this race for the second time. His Greenland Stakes win at The Curragh last year would definitely be hard to beat but he looks ground dependable.

This looks a solid chance for Richard Fahey to get his campaign up and running on the turf, Birchwood looks to have the ability to terrorise his opposition and show his class above these. Mobsta’s connections would probably want a heavy night of rain to see him to full effect. Ride like the Wind and Tupi should also be on the premises with the former an interesting contender.

Birchwood : 2pts Win @ 7/2 (BOG)

14.25 Doncaster – Betway Spring Mile

This race can tend to help for the draw bias when the Lincoln comes to run. One that really stands out for me in this is John Gosden’s Sacred Act. The son of Oasis Dream has what I would say been carefully coached throughout his scarce career.

He rounded off last season by taking the Information Services Handicap at Sandown Park over today’s trip. Lady Bamford has stressed he is a nice looking gelding and even at the age of six he certainly has the quality to land a decent prize

Richard Fahey has Nimr in this and the way he stretched to win the Lincoln trial at Wolverhampton was impressive and if bringing that kind of quickness and ability to the turf he is definitely a serious player.

I have this very close between Sacred Act and Nimr to land the race this year. Sacred Act is going to be a nice sort in handicaps this season, but the vote goes to Nimr, purely on the basis of her turn of foot and with Frankie Dettori booked, he should be landing this valuable handicap.

Nimr: 2pts Win @ 11/2 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview – UK / Ireland

Here is our horse racing preview for Tuesday 28th March 2017 across UK and Ireland Horse Racing today, unit stakes advised upon each selection.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 28th March 2017 – Hexham 2.30pm – Download The App At 188Bet Handicap Chase

Master Rajeem 10/3 – 2pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 28th March 2017 -Southwell 4.10pm  grandnational2017.com Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle

Brillare Momento 13/8 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 28th March 2017 – Wolverhampton 3.50pm – Betway Handicap

Monjeni 2/1 – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 28th March 2017 – Wolverhampton 4.50pm -Betway Maiden Stakes

Count Octave 4/6 – 5pt stake

Notes

Brillare Momento was running well and looked to be the winner until unseating rider 2 out at Ludlow back in December. The mare looks to be improving and can go well with Aidan Coleman back on for Martin Keighley.

Count Octave came a promising 3rd on debut at Goodwood in October but hasn’t run since. Andrew Balding’s colt, who is a half brother to the mighty Frankel, will definitely be progressing and up in distance here, will be difficult to beat. John Gosden’s filly, Utopian Dream has more recent form but I believe Count Octave will be on top on the day.
