A typical bank holiday calendar of racing, nothing really special even though we have many meetings to choose from, but today horse racing preview selections come from Beverley & Windsor.

After a difficult bank holiday weekend, today’s preview only contains two selections – one from each racecourse.

15.40 Beverley – Lynne Glenton Handicap (0-70)

Les Eyre does not get the run of the green at times with his handicappers, but Make on Madam won over a furlong further last week here at Beverley in the company and despite dropping back in trip and her penalty she should go close again for this course specialist. On paper her dangers look to come from Rebecca Bastiman’s Green Howard has run reasonably well on his last two outings and should fill the places.

Make on Madam : 2pts each way @ 5/1 (BOG)

16.55 Windsor – Collect totepool Winnings at Betfred Shops Handicap  (0-85)

Philip Hobbs and Clive Coxs are well represented here with Sternrubin and Lime and Lemon. The former once trained by Peter Chapple-hyam has had a fairly good career around the jumping code, makes his flat debut this afternoon for team Hobbs which is interesting with the first time hood. Lime and Lemon finished fifth on seasons reappearance at Doncaster. She was a winner around Beverley over 9.5f last season so has to be given the respect that she never the run.

The most eye-catching mount in the race is James Doyle on Ed de Giles Croquembouche, he has won at this level in the spring over a furlong less in a 0-85 handicap here at Windsor and also equipped himself in a 0-95 around here last May, goes well fresh and a liking for the course a plus.

Betway Darts Premier League Week 13

Betway – Darts Premier League – Week 13 – 27th April 2017

As the Betway Darts Premier League Finals at the O2 Arena draw ever closer, the race for the top 4 spots is heating up. Thursday 27th April sees the Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham, play host to Night 13 of the Betway Premier League Darts. The night will see Michael Van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis play twice, with Mighty Mike looking to continue his red-hot form after defeating fellow countryman, Raymond van Barneveld, 7-2 last week.

Adrian Lewis will be looking to bounce back after an inconsistent run of form. After igniting the Liverpool crowd two weeks ago with yet another Premier League nine darter and a 7-4 win over van Barneveld, the 32-year-old capitulated on the checkouts last week; hitting only three of his 12 checkout chances and losing 7-3 to 7th placed, Dave Chisnall.

Fixture List-

Betway Darts Premier League – James Wade vs Adrian Lewis

James Wade will look to keep his Premier League finals dream alive in what could be a season defining match with Adrian Lewis. The Machine will have some confidence approaching the match, as he beat Lewis 7-4 earlier this season with a wonderful display of darts. It’s hard to see Wade getting past Lewis however, who often turns up the heat on his opponent at this stage of the season; with maximums and high checkouts.

Skybet – Match Treble – Adrian Lewis to win the match and hit the highest match checkout and score more 180’s than Wade- 5/2

Betway Darts Premier League – Dave Chisnall vs Michael van Gerwen

Dave Chisnall illustrated his fighting spirit last week with two monumental victories over Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis. However, Chisnall faces his toughest opponent in the league this Thursday. Chisnall leads the league for 180s, a factor that not only makes him a bookies nightmare but also a tough opponent for anyone to face. Michael van Gerwen has gone from strength to strength and continues to dominate the PDC circuit, it’s tough to see van Gerwen not getting a win here.

Skybet – Match Double – Michael van Gerwen to win the match and hit the highest match checkout 4/6

Taylor and Wright face off tonight in Birmingham

Taylor and Wright face off tonight in Birmingham Photo credit: PDC.tv

Betway Darts Premier League – Phil Taylor vs Peter Wright

Taylor will be looking to close the gap on Wright in 2nd, sitting one place and two points below Snakebite in the table. Wright has been in majestic form this season, having won the UK Open earlier this year; his first televised title. Taylor will have the upper hand on his opponent however, having beaten him both times they’ve met in 2017. It’s the closest match-up of the night, fine margins will decide this one.

Skybet – Match Result – Draw7/2

Betway Darts Premier League – Gary Anderson vs Raymond van Barneveld

Anderson and van Barneveld face off in a crucial match, both the Scotsman and the Dutchman are on 14 points and are occupying 4th and 5th in the table; Gary edging above Raymond on leg difference. This game should produce the entertainment it promises on paper, and should also provide plenty of 180s. van Barneveld has averaged 4.08 180s this season and Anderson has averaged 3.5, wouldn’t be surprising to see plenty of maximums from these two on Thursday.

Skybet – Total 180’s – Over (7.5) – 5/6

Lewis and van Gerwen take each other on tonight as they both play two matches

Betway Darts Premier League – Adrian Lewis vs Michael van Gerwen

The power hitting of these two always creates a fast-paced, entertaining match of darts. The two drew earlier in the Premier League campaign, however more is at stake in this match. Van Gerwen is heavy favourite for this match-up; as he always is however Lewis is capable of challenging van Gerwen. A lot could be riding on this match, with results earlier in the night possibly affecting league positions. Both van Gerwen and Lewis are renowned for their high checkout scoring and so expect no different this time around.

Skybet – RequestAbet Special –  MVG and Lewis BOTH to hit 5+ 180’s each5/1

crystal-palace-vs-tottenham-match-preview-main2
Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview – 26th April 2017
FA Premier League, Selhurst Park, London, 8pm

Following a disappointing weekend, Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Selhurst Park to take on a recently-very dangerous Crystal Palace team on Wednesday evening. No team in the Premier League is in better form than Tottenham, winners of their last seven league games, who will be looking to keep their diminishing title hopes alive against a Crystal Palace side that has beaten Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in the month of April to pull 7 points above Swansea in the final relegation position. Without doubt, Palace will be looking to add to their impressive month and to avenge Spurs’ 1-0 win at White Hart lane in August.

Team News

Both teams come into the match without much news on the injury-front. Tottenham left back Danny Rose has resumed first-team training but is unlikely to feature, while Harry Winks, Erik Lamela are unavailable for the rest of the season. Sporadically-used substitutes Cameron Carter-Vickers and Michel Vorm are also unavailable for Spurs. Palace will be without centre back James Tompkins who was injured during Sunday’s game against Liverpool and he may miss the rest of the season, but will welcome back defender Mamadou Sakho who missed the Liverpool game against his parent club.

Sam Allardyce will also be in the unpleasant position of trying to balance his squad for the midweek game as on Saturday, The Eagles take on Burnley and having lost four of their six games playing on four or less days’ rest, changes could be prominent as Allardyce has hinted that there could well be big changes from the squad that beat Liverpool on Sunday. This would be welcoming news to Pochettino and Tottenham.

Players to Watch

Crystal Palace have not scored a league goal against Tottenham since 2015, but Christian Benteke has 3 in his last 2 games and will certainly be looking to add to that form on Wednesday against a very stingy Tottenham back-3 that have given up the fewest goals in the Premier league this season. Benteke may also be looking to justify his manager’s comments this week regarding Allardyce’s unwillingness to swap Benteke for Spur’s striker Harry Kane. Additionally, former Spur’s winger Andros Townsend could also look to strike a blow against his former club’s title chances after netting earlier this month against Arsenal.

Kyle-Walker-looks-to-provide-a-goal-threat-with-his-speed-and-crossing-ability

After being curiously dropped for the FA Cup Semifinal, Kyle Walker is expected to return to the starting eleven against Crystal Palace. Walker has performed outstandingly this season, fully deserving being named in the PFA Team of the Year this week. look for him to test the patchy Crystal Palace defence with his lightning-fast runs and accurate crosses.

Chelsea vs Southampton – Match Preview – 25th April 2017

FA Premier League, Stamford Bridge, London, 7.45pm

Chelsea take on Southampton in the Premier League tonight at Stamford Bridge in a game that Antonio Conte must win to extend the lead at the top of the table to 7 points – even if it is only just for one day as Tottenham, who sit in 2nd, take on Crystal Palace the following night. The win would also keep the pressure on Spurs, who at a similar time last year lost to Chelsea whilst trying to gain ground on Leicester, ending their title campaign.

Southampton have had a good season so far, with Claude Puel’s side currently in 9th position, three points behind West Brom but a huge 17 points off Arsenal, who sit in 7th place. The Europa League looks a distance away for the Saints and a top half finish looks to be their only hope this season.

Team News

Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are set to return to the starting XI tonight for Chelsea with Michy Batshuayi, who started the FA Cup Semi Final, returning to the bench.

Willian could also start after scoring twice against Spurs in the FA Cup Semi Final on the weekend, with Conte having to decide between the Brazilian and Spaniard, Pedro.

Gary Cahill could return to action after suffering from gastroenteritis though former Bournemouth loanee, Nathan Ake, who started in place of Cahill on Saturday, will also be pushing for his 2nd consecutive start.

Southampton have former Chelsea midfielder, Oriel Romelu, back from suspension but Sam Mcqueen is set to miss out due to a groin strain.

Matt Targett and Charlie Austin are still sidelined but will be returning to training later this week.

Centre back, Virgil van Djik will be out for the remainder of the season as he continues to recover from ligament damage in his foot.

Hazard has been in fantastic form this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

Players to Watch

Though he had a slight dip in form last season, Eden Hazard has shown everyone what he is capable of once again. With 14 goals and 5 assists in 30 league appearances this season, Hazard has shown why Real Madrid have made him their top transfer target in the summer.

With his speed and pace along with his close control of the ball, similarly to Lionel Messi of Barcelona, Hazard moves elegantly across the pitch, scoring and providing for his team mates.

Manchester United saw just how much influence the 26-year-old has for Chelsea, when constantly fouling the Belgian in the FA Cup Quarter Final match, where Ander Herrera was sent off for fouling Hazard.

His link up play with Costa has been pivotal to the two scoring goals and causing chaos in the oppositions half and the same could occur tonight if Southampton do not keep their concentration.

Striker Manolo Gabbiadini should be back in the squad for the Saints after suffering a groin injury. The Italian scored 6 goals in 6 appearances before being sidelined and the Saints will be looking to the 25 year old to rekindle his goalscoring touch to gain a win in West London.

With Chelsea in high confidence after the FA Cup Semi Final win on Saturday, Claude Puel’s men will have a tough time of it tonight and I can see the game ending in a home win with Hazard and Costa playing a huge role in the fixture.

Suggested Tips :

Chelsea vs Tottenham - FA Cup Semi-Final Preview large
Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview – 22nd April 2017
FA Cup Semi Final, Wembley, London

This Saturday sees a classic matchup between storied London clubs Chelsea and Tottenham, who currently occupy the top two places on the Premier League table. After a strong start, Chelsea have seen their seemingly insurmountable lead from March dwindle to a mere 4 points over a resurgent Spurs who are playing some of their best football ever of late. While Chelsea have lost 2 of their last 4, Spurs have won seven in a row in convincing fashion. Points and table standings will be cast aside on Saturday, however, when the two rivals meet in The FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium for the chance to play once more at Wembley in May against the winner of Sunday’s Arsenal-Manchester City match.

As in any London Derby, emotions will be running high for the match, and this match has all the requisite components for a true battle on the pitch. There is certainly no love lost between these teams following a physical and emotional matchup last May at Stamford Bridge that ended Spur’s title chances and saw 12 yellow cards and at least one eye-gouging.

Team News

Surely the trophy chases of the last two years will be on the minds of both team’s players and managers as the teams face off in this important semi-final. As can be expected for a mid-April match, both teams are coming in to Wembley with some injury concerns. Tottenham have received a fantastic boost with the return of striker/talisman Harry Kane and defensive-midfield rock Victor Wanyama, and while they are still missing Left Back Danny Rose, they have managed to fill the role nicely with Kieran Tripper and Ben Davis, Chelsea are also relatively healthy, with only Marcos Alonso and Thibaut Courtois in doubt for the match.

Spurs will be looking to avenge last season’s draw and to send wobbling Chelsea a message that they are for real. Adding to the drama is Spurs recent terrible form at Wembley Stadium, manager Mauricio Pochettino will have his work cut out for him in convincing his young team that they are in fact capable of taking down the league leaders in a stadium that has haunted them in years past, as well as in this year’s Champion’s league fixtures.

Players to watch

Diego Costa: The mercurial Chelsea striker excels at winding up his opponents, and has had great success at doing so against a young and emotional Spurs team. At his best, he is one of the best goalscorers in the league and he would love nothing more than to rattle the confidence of Tottenham at this critical moment in the season.

Diego Costa could play a huge role in the outcome of the game Photo Credit: dailyexpress.co.uk

Eric Dier: The Tottenham midfielder has seen a recent revival of his goal-scoring form from last season, and is seem by many as the backbone of the Tottenham midfield. How well he, and midfield-mate Dele Alli can keep their composure in the face of Chelsea’s blistering attack and scandalous shenanigans could well decide this match.

Suggested Tips:

  • Skybet Price Boost – Diego Costa to score and Chelsea to win in 90 mins – 4/1
  • Skybet Price Boost – Eden Hazard to score first – 13/2
  • Skybet Price Boost – Harry Kane to score and Tottenham to win in 90 mins – 4/1

Monaco-vs-dortmund-match preview - large
Monaco vs Borussia Dortmund – Match Preview – 19th April 2017
Champions League Quarter Final 2nd Leg (3-2) Stade Louis II, Monaco

Borussia Dortmund travel to Ligue 1 leaders Monaco in the Champions League quarter-final second leg facing a 3-2 deficit from the first tie – a match that took place just 24 hours after alleged terror attacks resulted in explosions near the Dortmund coach and a fractured arm for defender Marc Bartra.

The story of the first leg
After having an extension request rejected by UEFA, Dortmund were visibly and understandably out of sorts and failed to transfer their imperious home form in the league (undefeated in all 14 played, winning 11 and drawing 3) to the European stage. Despite conceding just 8 in the league at home all season the attacking force of Monaco put 3 away goals in the German’s net – taking a commanding stance going into the second leg.

Kylian Mbappe took advantage of slack defending twice in the game – firstly by finding space and having the ball rebound of him fortunately into the open net, and secondly intercepting a careless back-pass from Lukasz Piszcek to run and finish with impressive composure.
An uncharacteristic error from Sven Bender as he bundled the ball into his own goal felt unfair as the Germans were noticeably affected by the events 24 hours previous.
Dembele and Kagawa’s well worked goals kept Dortmund in with a chance in a very attacking match.

Mbappe scored a brace to give the French side the lead going into the 2nd leg

Team News

For Monaco; Fabinho is suspended after picking up a booking in the first leg but Tiemoue Bakayoko and Benjamin Mendy will return from their own suspensions.

Dortmund will be without Marc Batra as he recovers from the above mentioned arm injury as the result of events last week.
However, BVB favourite Marco Reus is expected to play after returning from injury in the weekend’s 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the league.

Marco Reus returns after injury for tonight’s crucial 2nd leg

Monaco are looking to extend their dominance as France’s most successful European team; no other French side has made the semi-finals of Europe’s elite competition more than once – progression will result in Monaco’s fourth appearance in the last four (others coming in 1993/94, 1997/98 and 2003/04).

Dortmund will be up against it as only Barcelona (90) have scored more than the 88 league goals Monaco have plundered this season and no team in the competition’s history has overturned a 3-2 home deficit from the first leg to progress.

Expect goals. No team left in the competition has conceded more than Monaco’s 15. There have also been over 2.5 goals in Monaco’s last 6 and 9 of Dortmund’s last 11 Champions League matches.

The clash will begin at Stade Louis II 7:45pm 19th April.

Alcala – 8/11 – 3pt stake

Notes

Alcala should be providing Paul Nichols his first win of the season after finishing a good third at Sandown last month. This race is slightly weaker and racing off an unchanged mark, the 7 year old should be getting his head in front.

Red Touch has a great chance of winning this race for Michael Appleby as he won this same race last year with a five year old and Red Touch is a course and distance winner. Stepping back up in trip, adding cheekpieces to the hood should help the 5 year old gelding. Custard The Dragon is the danger, having won over course and distance 2 weeks ago and is still progressing.

Manchester United v Chelsea - Match Preview - FA Premier League
Manchester Utd vs Chelsea – Match Preview – Sunday 16th April 2017
FA Premier League, Old Trafford, Manchester

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United search for a vital win against his former club in their chase for the Champions League against the seemingly Champions-elect Chelsea.

This season’s reverse fixture resulted in humiliation for Jose Mourinho; his first time back at Stamford Bridge since his acrimonious sacking saw his United team demolished 4-0 against Antonio Conte’s men.

It was arguably a season defining moment for Mourinho, as that was the last game they lost in the league – a massive 21 matches ago.

The Blues also knocked United out of the FA Cup, a tense 1-0 victory in March saw Chelsea through to the semi-finals.

However, United are still in 5th position, four points away from Manchester City in 4th and their season has been a difficult one. Third in the table on away form; it is at the Theatre of Dreams where the problems have arisen. The Red Devils have amassed a staggering 15 draws this campaign, with astonishingly 12 of those draws coming at Old Trafford.

Scoring goals has also been an issue with Zlatan Ibrahimovic providing the only real goal threat and Mourinho brandishing the attack ‘sloppy’ after the 1-1 draw away to Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday.

It has been a completely different story for Chelsea, who since losing 3-0 at Arsenal have been completely dominant in the league.

The front 3 of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Pedro have been exceptional, clinically dispatching teams as soon as the opportunity arises and scoring 38 between them. Along with the brilliantly organised defence – Victor Moses and new signing David Luiz especially improved – Chelsea only have Spurs to compete with as they race over the finish line for the title.

Team News

Captain and record goal-scorer Wayne Rooney missed out against Anderlecht and looks set to miss this match too. Ashley Young is also struggling for match fitness.

Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Juan Mata are all still out with long-term injuries.

David De Gea has missed the last two matches with a small problem but is expected to come back into the starting line-up on Sunday.

Chelsea have a full squad to select from which has been a marker of their consistency this season.

Paul Pogba has had his fair share of critics this season, but there is no denying he is an incredible talent.

His return of 4 goals and 3 assists may not be ground-breaking but his all-around game has been excellent. Only Jordan Henderson has completed more passes than the Frenchman in the league and no one has completed more forward passes.

Also, the 50 key passes Pogba has created are more than players such as Phillipe Coutinho,  Sadio Mane,  and PFA Young Player of the Year shoe-in Dele Alli. Pogba has hit the woodwork a hugely frustrating 6 times – the second highest in the league. There is obviously a lot more to come from Pogba but if those efforts had rebounded of the frame and gone in it might be a different story in terms the perception of his performance.

Chelsea’s French central midfielder on the other hand, has been garnering all of the plaudits. N’Golo Kante has been an irrepressible force for The Blues, insatiably dislodging the opposition of the ball and effectively distributing it to create attacks. Kante has scored 2 goals in all competitions this campaign and they have both come against Manchester United.

Kante is a massive 1/8 odds-on favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year – illustrating his devastating influence again this season..
