Daily Horse Racing Pro Tips - 17th August 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Lingfield & Fontwell – 5th May May 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from two meetings in Lingfield and Fontwell. Very disappointed in the running of Theo’s Lolly yesterday, not sure at present on Richard Fahey’s yard, I suppose a stable that had a good turnover of horses this expected.

At least a nice winner with Mukalal who has definitely come on, and will be worth keeping an eye on where Something To Be will turn up next after being pulled up yesterday. I will be doing a full race by race preview on Saturday and Sunday being it the first classics for Colts and Fillies.

14.10 Lingfield – Join Us For Countryside Day – 3rd June Selling Stakes (8f)

I would like to think Rod Millman’s Isis Blue can be involved around this sphere. Winner off 69 last year at Kempton, it took him nine attempts to record his last win which came at Bath over 10f in a 0-60 hcp.

This is his first visit to Lingfield, and there is no reason why he cannot be competitive under the good booking of young Ryan Tate. Best of the rest looks to be Richard Hannon’s Willwams who won with something in hand in a claimer over 7f here back in March, was beaten over course and distance in a maiden on debut. Looks vulnerable.

Isis Blue : 1pt each way @ 10/1 (BOG)

15.40 Lingfield Park – Greater London Properties Handicap (0-85)

An opportunity for Mark Johnston’s Highly Sprung to get back into the winning enclosure, the son of Zebedee was seen hacking up at Yarmouth last September in this company over 6f. With a race mixture of turf and all weather runs he has failed to progress and his losing run goes to 0-7.

Regardless of the current status, he looked back to good form when finishing third at Leicester, drops down to the minimum trip this afternoon and, would like to predict that we once more see a bold showing at the front of the pace, should be on the premises.

Main danger and selection comes from the old boy trained by Andrew Balding in Dungannon. Has won twice on the all-weather this year at Southwell which included off a mark of 81. Up 6lb and comes into this off current outside rating of 87.

Won off 89 last year when beating Brother Tiger easily by four lengths off level weights. His all-weather form is far superior throughout his career. The tactics is important with him, from stall three he should be getting cover being closer, it has to be right for him, but very capable under today’s seven pound claimer.

Dungannon : 1pt each way @ 13/2 (BOG)

17.25 Fontwell – Mortimor Arms OffJunction2 M27 Near Newforest Handicap Chase (0-110)

Where do they get the names of these races, I am sure the name of the establishment would have been sufficient enough, but it is what it is. On to the race and Dr Richard Newlands Jaunty Inflight has been beaten favourite on four of his seven past encounters.

He recorded his second chase win at Taunton last month when fending off a low grade individual. This is his first visit to Fontwell, a track I think will suit his style of running. With just the 4lb penalty to contend with he will have to pull out more off this career highest mark, but it’s not the strongest of contests this afternoon and the services of young Sam Twiston-Davies he should be making his presence felt over this trip.

Ex Tim Vaughan trained Lake Chapala has to be respected off the back of his Plumpton win last month when winning over 16.9f by 7 lengths. Not being hit that harsh from the handicapper he will most definitely be involved once more getting three pounds from the Jaunty Inflight. Gary and Jamie Moore team up with Halling’s Wish who has not won over hurdles for two and a half years which came over 18.5f here at Fontwell, but his old form really stands out.

On his Chase mark of around 104 he could also be interesting returning to chasing after a long spell on the flat on the all-weather which has seen him placed on all three outings this year.

Halling’s Wish : 1.5pt win @ 5/1 (BOG)

19.35 Fontwell  – Chancelloroftheformchecker Champion Jockey 2016 Jamie Moore Handicap Chase (0-100)

Paul Henderson is a yard I tend to follow around these average night meetings. His entry here, Thepartyisover, was a winner over hurdles 18 months ago when off a mark of 96. The regular visitor to Fontwell has failed on his past ten visits around the hurdle ranks, but the twelve-year-old made his chasing debut over course and distance last month when finishing fourth of eight when beaten over twenty lengths

Considering that was a 0-105 contest, he was taking on proven chasing stayers. That run was off a mark of 78 going up against horses that were rated 20lb his superior.

Connections must have been content with the run, being pitched in here again over the same trip against two horses in Itoldya who bested him on chase debut by over twenty lengths when getting 23lb at the weights. He meets Itoldya off worse terms, but eye catching jockey booking of Paddy Brennan speaks volumes.

Dangers obviously Itoldya of Linda Jewel’s, had the ability to win a race of this nature considering he won a 0-120 over 26.5f two years ago, but it’s the fact his losing streak now goes back twelve runs, is still well handicapped on old form to be involved again, but just finds one too good most times.

Thepartyisover : 2pt win @ 7/2 (BOG)

Darts Premier League-week-15

Betway – Darts Premier League – Week 14 – 4th May 2017

It’s the penultimate week of the Betway Premier League Darts regular season. The Sheffield Arena will host what is sure to be another week of twists and turns in the best darting league on the planet. Night 14 will consist of only four match-ups rather than the usual five; as every player only has two matches remaining to reach the top four spots. The finals at the O2 arena are drawing ever closer meaning every leg in every match is now of huge significance. They can all still qualify for the prestigious finals night and write their names in the history books. However, before they have the chance to book their ticket at the O2 arena, they have this Thursday night to worry about.

Fixture list:

Lewis and Wright aiming for a top 4 finish Photo Credit: skypsorts.com

Peter Wright vs Adrian Lewis

If current form was to decide the outcome of this match, then Adrian Lewis would be in all sorts of trouble. The Stoke-born darter has been in woeful form, having lost 7-4 to James Wade and 7-0 to Michael van Gerwen last week in his double-header. Whereas Peter Wright has been building on his impressive start to 2017 with a win over Phil Taylor last week. It’s hard to believe that Lewis will continue this uncharacteristic poor form, as he is capable of overcoming players like Peter Wright when he’s in the right mood. This should be the tightest match of the evening, the finest of margins could get either of these a result.

Skybet Total Legs – Over 10.5 Legs – 4/7

Raymond van Barneveld vs Dave Chisnall

Dave Chisnall is in delightful form, some would say the form of his career. After beating both Phil Taylor and Peter Wright in his double header two weeks ago, the St Helens born darter then drew 6-6 with Michael van Gerwen last week in Birmingham. There’s no doubt Chisnall is the best 180 hitter in the Premier League, if he can continue his improved form on the doubles there’s no reason why he can’t produce another surprise against van Barneveld. The Dutchman needs a win, having lost his last two matches against Anderson and van Gerwen. The match should see plenty of maximums, as Barney and Chizzy are the two highest 180 hitters this season. Chisnall has averaged 4.23 180’s per match and van Barneveld has averaged 3.85 180’s.

Skybet Match Action – Match to have over 7.5 180’s, Checkout to be over 121.5 and over 11.5 Total Legs –11/2

James Wade vs Gary Anderson

Both James Wade and Gary Anderson won last week in Birmingham against tough opposition. Wade beat difficult opposition in Adrian Lewis, to win 7-4 and keep him in the race for a top four spot. Anderson beat Raymond van Barneveld 7-4 in a delightful display of darting dominance. Anderson showcased the flair he often possesses; finishing the match with a three-dart average of 105.47. With both players top four fate hanging in the balance, Anderson should overwhelm the Englishmen with his power scoring and deadly finishing on the doubles.

Skybet Match Treble – Anderson to win the match, hit the outright highest checkout and score more 180’s than Wade – 13/8

The biggest names in Darts take each other on tonight Photo Credit:skysports.com

Michael van Gerwen vs Phil Taylor

As darting fixtures go, it doesn’t get any bigger than this. The greatest to ever grace the darts board against the world number one. Phil Taylor has been out of sorts as of late, having lost last week to Peter Wright 7-3 in an abysmal performance for his standards. Michael van Gerwen will be looking to sustain his performance from his last outing; beating Adrian Lewis 7-0. These two always spur each other on to perform at the best of their ability when they face off so expect maximums and high checkouts from both.

Skybet Highest Checkout Score – Over 122.5 – 5/6

Bahamian Sunrise enjoys Brighton and was only beaten a head on re appearance a week ago after a 181 day break. The gelding has an unchanged mark and with this slightly shorter distance, will be the one to beat. Danger in the field looks to be Cosmopolitan Girl who though returns from a 272 day break, has been running well since joining Robert Cowell, having won 1 and placed in its last 2 starts.

Horse Racing Preview - Newmarket - 29th September 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Brighton & Yarmouth – 2nd May 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from 2 meetings, Brighton and Yarmouth. Frustrating getting run down on the second selection to just miss out on a 11/4 each way double when once more subjected with non-runners leaving just four runners.

14.30 Brighton – Hertz Car Rental Handicap  (0-70)

Brighton from my angle is a track for hold up horses, the selection Raffle King represents Mick Channon who showed some fair level of form on his three-year-old campaign when third at Kempton.

He was definitely the one to take out of the race despite just over five lengths behind the winner. My interest is the runner up, in Godolphins Desert Rain who despite being beaten at Doncaster recently, that maiden is going to produce future winners sooner than later.

He visited Brighton on his juvenile debut over the optimum trip, was not beaten far by a horse called Visionary who was recently just denied in a good-looking conditions race at Lingfield recently.

Danger to the selection will be the Clive Cox filly Foxcatcher who signed off her juvenile career with a good win at Windsor, the runner up Mercers went in to frank that form.

Raffle King : 2pt win @ 7/2 (BOG)

15.35 Brighton – EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Fillies Handicap (0-90)

Some nice fillies on show this afternoon, if Andrew Balding’s daughter of Passing Glance Lorelina just shows a fraction of her Newbury run on her last start when behind Entsar then the race should be done and dusted. She is one that does tend to show her best form at Epsom Downs.

Regardless, she has to be feared even off her current career runs, but I am taking her on with Pernickety of Lucy Wadham’s. The penny dropped on her last start when winning over course and distance here at Brighton 17 days ago. She still looks well treated off her current mark of 70.

Pernickity : 2pt win @ 7/2 (BOG)

16.00 Yarmouth – Weatherby’s Bank Handicap (0-70)

I don’t normally stay over loyal to handicappers, but David Simcock’s Ms Gillard should really be taking this average handicap under Jamie Spencer. Even though she is 0-7 and thoug looking exposed on her current mark she hasn’t run a bad race this year finishing placed five times.

Her last run at Brighton saw her just denied by one of today’s selections in Pernickity. The front pair were well clear of the third and considering that was her first career turf run, there should be a win around the corner now she steps back up to 10.1f which saw finish runner up this year at Newcastle.

Obvious dangers look to come from Longside and Fantasy Gladiator, but both have suffered and are winless from their past twenty-one and eighteen runs to date.

Ms Gillard : 2pt win @ 3/1 (BOG)

16.30 Yarmouth – Katie’s 30th Birthday Celebration Handicap (0-95)

Glory Awaits is a long way from the days which saw him finishing runner up to New Approach in the 2000gns, won at Listed level at best he has never shown his potential from that Newmarket run.

It’s been two and a half years since he was entering the winning enclosure at Veliefendi when landing the Group 2 International Topkapi Trophy. Now seven he even looks out of his depth here and is over looked with confidence.

David Simcock also has Horstead Keynes in the race and on jockey bookings looks the yards first string. His last win came in this race three years ago when off a mark of 89. Has two good place runs this year on the all-weather, especially his third at Lingfield when beaten favourite, will have to overcome a long losing streak, but first run here since landing this race in 2014.

The selection though goes to Michael Bells Taurean Star. Was seeing winning a 0-85 race around this time last year at Ascot, goes well fresh and a good break, should be feared under Spencer.

Taurean Star : 2pt Win @ 4/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Salisbury - 4th October 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Salisbury, Thirsk, Limerick and Gowran Park – 30th April 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Salisbury, Limerick, Gowran Park and Thirsk with selections from each meeting. Saturday’s always seems to eat into the weekly profits, just the one loyal winner coming in the way of Menorah, a horse you can trust.

14.30 Salisbury – Betfred Racing Like Us On Facebook Maiden Stakes (6.9f)

The top three in the market all look solid improvers, Richard Hannon’s Malcolm the Pug who finished third behind a very useful one of Gosden’s in Seven Heavens on debut at Ascot, the winner was placed in a Listed event at Newmarket recently.

Was disappointed though with him when running at Newbury over a sharp 6f, stablemate Majeste won the race and had gone on to equip himself well enough in pattern company. Now stepping up to 7f I want to see more from the Acclamation colt.

Ralph Beckett is another yard that have been in good form early doors, their representative here is Moonwise who is making her race course debut. She is by Exceed and Excel out of Moonstone Magic, this looks an index she will thrive around early in her career, commands respect.

The tissue favourite here is Clive Cox’s Del Parco who finished runner up at Kempton on debut. The winner and the third will come on from that race, he is nicely bred by Delegator out of Sparkle Park with the bloodline through sprinter Kyllachy. He probably deserves to get off the mark at the second attempt, even on breeding there is plenty of speed.

Del Parco : 2pt win @ 6/4 (BOG)

15.30 Salisbury  – Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Handicap (0-85)

Sir Michael Stoutes Adamant got off the maiden ladder when winning on his second start which came at Windsor, the formline should be strong through the third High Commander who was behind a horse I fancy at Thirsk this afternoon.

The fourth, Weekender, franked the form winning on the all-weather at Chelmsford, his form was franked by Maghfoor who won at Haydock yesterday, so the ripple of form is favouring Adamant to come out and boost it all even further.

Main danger looks the obvious John Gosden Elas Ruby who got off the mark on her fourth attempt at Chelmsford, she had prior to the win finished second at Newbury, the third horse in the race was Serenada who franked the form on Friday at Sandown and holds an Oaks entry.

The two at the head of the market look way above what else is on offer in the field, Adamant has a strong form line as does Elas Ruby, with the latter’s trainer in far better form I have swung towards the filly over the colt.

Edas Ruby : 2pt win @ 5/1 (BOG)

15.20 Limerick – Family Fun Day 21st May Handicap (7f)

Jim Bolger has a good string of handicappers this year already who look very forward, their entry here Club Wexford has run consistent enough this year to suggest he will be in the mix this afternoon.

Stepping back up to 7f will suit the Lawman gelding who finished second at Leopardstown over today’s index going down by just half a length. His last two runs have come over sprint trips, he has already reversed the form from the winner last time out at Navan over 5.5f.

I don’t see many dangers in the race apart from January Morn who is an ex Dermot Weld inmate, made a good debut for Anthony Mullins when fourth in a large field at Navan and could be the one to watch if strong support comes in for him.

Club Wexford : 2pts each way @ 11/2 (BOG)

15.35 Gowran Park  – Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes (Listed)

Aidan O’Brien’s Somehow is going to be a short price to land this race this afternoon. Last year’s Cheshire Oaks & Snow Fairy Fillies Stakes winner was beaten on her return by Mick Channon’s Czabo who probably improved 12lb to cause the upset.

The race was not that strong with the fifth placed Queen Anne’s Lace being thrashed and last of ten in the Listed Salsabil stakes last week. Even the third has been beaten twice since which makes the form very suspect.

Somehow has a full calender of top entries this year, but she has to show more this time around if she is to be taken seriously. Turret Rocks has been very frustrating to follow since winning the May Hill Stakes just over eighteen months ago.

She finished in front of Somehow last season in the Irish Oaks and was put in her place in the Yorkshire Oaks the following month. Both of her wins have come over a mile. This is an interesting new trip for her over the 9.5f, and on that assumption I am going to give her one more run to show me she still obtains her ability at the age of four.

Another of interest is Jessica Harrington’s Beautiful Morning whose pedigree being by Galileo through the bloodline of George Washington you would feel she has the capacity to be a smart filly. She is also dropping back in trip and has been effective over 10f throughout her short career.

I am torn between Beautiful Morning and Turret Rocks, both yards are in good early season form, with Harrington taking both of the big races last weekend I am in strong mind that her filly can come on and go close in a very open event.

Beautiful Morning : 1pt each way @ 7/1 (BOG)

16.20 Limerick – 4 Of Us Play Live At Limerick Racecourse June 23rd Handicap (12.4f)

The names of some of these races take me longer to write than the preview, one horse even though looks exposed is Joseph O’ Brien’s Udago who had become frustrating to back with confidence. When he crashed the party at Dundalk when beating Special Gravity, I thought hang on, the yard have a potentially nice handicap horse here.

He has flattered to deceive, won over 13f last June when trained by his father, but has failed to sparkle over the past ten months with his best run when third at Dundalk in which saw Special Gravity reverse the previous form.

I think there is still a win in him, if today or next week he is still reasonably handicapped off 80, if he fails to win or make the frame here surely he will drop at least another 2-3lb, so a win is coming.

As the likely winner, this is a stick in a pin and get lucky handicap, Andrew Slattery’s Sharjah is coming off the back of a win at Dundalk when beating his field emphatically, has won over 12f which came around late May and early June so worth watching at present.

Udogo : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

17.15 Thirsk – Thirsk Racecourse Ideal Conference Venue Maiden Stakes (8f)

This I think is the best bet on the card at Thirsk this afternoon in Roger Varian’s Materialist. His runner up finish behind Trading Point at Haydock. His juvenile start is turning out to be a useful maiden with the form line bouncing nicely through Weekender who finished fourth.

Best of the rest, Secret Advisor for Charlie Appleby, nicely related to a middle-distance dam, and with Godolphin horses looking more forward I would fear him the most in the field.

Materialist : 3pt win @ 6/4 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Hereford - 29th November 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Punchestown, Sandown, Doncaster – 29th April 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Punchestown, Ripon, Doncaster, Sandown and Haydock, with 7 selections across the meetings. Disappointed with the string of places yesterday, two winners though to add to the week.

The racing from Sandown and Punchestown will resolve both trainers’ titles up for grabs, Nicholls v Henderson and Mullins v Elliott.

13.50 Sandown – Bet365 Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (16f)

Do not be surprised to see multiple entries from both Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson yards as they go head to head for the trainer title. Seven Barrows look likely to prevail and have a fairly strong contender in the first with Call Me Lord who makes his debut for the trainer and what a berry stage to do it at Sandown.

The four-year-old looks a very progressive type after good wins in France up-to two and a half miles, he has been given a stiff mark of 135 though which is not that generous enough to exploit, but with the current rain forecasted he looks the one to beat.

Paul Nicholls has Dolos entered who has a vast amount of experience at this level, but most of his better form has been around the novice ranks, beaten off 132 at Ascot proves he is probably within the grasp of the handicap on what level of form he has shown.

So, the first race I actually do not fancy any of the main contenders, I have opted for Seamus Mullins Landin who ran at both festivals when competing in Grade 1 company. Leading up to those big steps in class he was consistent around the juvenile ranks placed on two occasions this year at Warwick. His opening handicap mark of 130 looks to give him a solid chance of at least running well in this.

Landin : 1pt each way @ 12/1 (BOG)

14.25 Sandown – Bet365 Oaksey Chase (Grade 2)

Without being detrimental towards two top trainers but they are really digging from their stars of old with Josses Hill who taking on a trip that looks beyond him, Vibrato Valtat has not won between the flags for 18 months and Art Mauresque would have to improve 14lb before even considering.

So that narrows the field down to two, Menorah and Traffic Fluide. At least Menorah won this race last year when beating Valseur Lido. With three of his four follow up runs he was placed which included a runner spot in last year’s Charlie Hall Chase and third in the long distance hurdle. He might be the ripe old age of 12, but is a sound jumper which has seen him never falling in his career.

Gary Moore’s Traffic Fluide just might be a little young taking on these big guns. Don’t get me wrong, he deserves his chance like the rest of the field, ran a cracker at Aintree when third to Fox Norton in the Melling Chase, the winner has taken the scalp of the mighty Un De Sceaux at this festival.

A winner over two miles around Sandown when competing around the novice ranks, he has a few years on his side here, a nice prospect and only seven years old. but he will learn again from this race that he has plenty of time to thrive next year.

Menorah : 2pt Win @ 2/1 (BOG)

14.35 Punchestown – Dooley Insurances Cross Country Chase (24f)

As we tend to follow Edna Bolger blind in these events, it has not been plain sailing this season, her stars of old are getting just that; old, but one in the locker is Love Rory. Course and distance winner three years ago has seen him decline, but he is still well treated and never runs a bad race around here.

Ran here two days ago over a longer trip when finishing fourth and will be interesting to see if he takes his chances here. But I would expect Ballyboker Bridge to add to his course and distance win last year when beating quite a few of these.

Since then he has run creditable behind Cantlow two times and had beaten Colour Squadron very easily this year at the course. He also holds his nearest adversary from Cheltenham.

Ballyboker Bridge : 2pt win @ 9/4 (BOG)

14.40 Haydock  – Best Odds Guaranteed At 188bet Handicap (7f)

Richard Hannon’s Oh This Is Us should be most definitely exploiting his good draw in stall 1. He has kicked off his season well since returning from Dubai with just being denied at Doncaster in the Lincoln.

It’s a race that has found out handicapped horses, but he thrived when going on to win at Bath just holding on by a neck. It’s the best of races and with an entry in this year’s Queen Anne he is a very well thought of individual. If anything can foil him this might come from Twin Appeal who drew well clear at Musselburgh fourteen days ago, has to contend with a 4lb rise, if the selection has a day off he looks best of the field without him.

Oh This Is Us : 2pt win @ 3/1 (BOG)

17.25 Doncaster – Fine and Country Newcomers Maiden Stakes (5f)

I would like to think Richard Faheys juveniles are not that forward despite Darkanna costing just over 200K. She is bred for speed being by Dark Angel out of Jadanna/Mujahid, she should just on pedigree be too hot to handle, good to see Paul Hanagan back in the Fahey camp more often.

Big danger will no doubt come from Roger Varian’s Dahik, the juveniles from the yard have been what I would say forward compared to last year’s batch.

Darkanna : 2pt Win @ 5/2 (BOG)

17.40 Ripon – Traditional Family Funday Sunday 21st May Handicap  (0-85)

This looks between the top two in the market being Washed and the selection Logi. The former will represent Robert Cowell’s yard, penny dropped really well when coming on from a poor debut run on the all-weather when winning at Catterick on his final start as a juvenile.

Handicap debut which looks poor by the standard and is one to keep on the right side of with Luke Morris in the plate, but I am with David Barron’s Logi who had a far busier juvenile campaign. Not wasting any time getting off the mark when winning at Wolverhampton when beating Jack the Truth by three and a half lengths.

Struggled over 6f here when seventh and this step back to 5f should see both Kodiac youngsters go well over the optimum trip with the slight push towards Logi who looks better drawn of the pair.

Logi : 2pt win @ 4/1 (BOG)

18.10 Punchestown – attheraces.com (PRO/AM) I.N.H.Flat (16f)

What a day yesterday for Patrick Mullins when taking both Grade 1’s, but back to reality and a bumper in which he rides winners for fun and I expect him to give a good account with Sparky Stowaway.

He is well related to a chase winner, with Dam a bumper winner and should make his presence felt here for Thomas Mullins. Dangers look to come from Martin Brassil’s You Raise Me Up who has a great pedigree through Presenting / Supreme Leader and swings my views slightly being a big fan of both sires.

The Shearers Wife represents Gordon Elliott, again nicely bred newcomer by Beneficial through blood line of Pistolet Bleu, but I think will come on after this outing.

You Raised Me Up : 1pt each way @ 9/1 (BOG)
