Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 28th April 2017 -Huntingdon 4.40pm -Boxing Betting At 188bet Maiden Hurdle

Burning Heat – 11/8 – 3pt stake

Notes

Monarch’s Glen ended last year with a win over 1m1f at Goodwood and has the chance to make this a double for Sir Michael Stoute as he won this race last year with Midterm. Monarch’s Glen ran well on his re appearance when winning at Kempton over 1m3f, showing a great turn of foot. Dangers could be Cunco and Fraankus, who have both been running creditably.

Horse Racing Preview - Kempton - 22nd October 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Punchestown, Sandown, Chepstow – 28th April 2017

Our horse racing preview comes from four meetings today, Doncaster. Sandown, Punchestown and Chepstow. Another weekend arrives and another feast of racing with the highlight being the Sandown card which will decide the outcome of the national hunt trainers title which at present looks to be going to Seven Barrows. Firstly, on to Friday and again some excellent racing to take on board.

15.20 Doncaster  – 188bet.co.uk Maiden Fillies Stakes (6f)

Godolphin again have another well represented filly on show in Desert Rain, the daughter of Invincible Spirit was beaten at odds on – on debut at Kempton Park three weeks ago when unable to real in a much fitter opponent.

I’ve watched the race a couple of times to see if she has the ability to come on for that debut run, her action looked short with a little tendency to hang slightly, but I would not be surprised to see her improve from that run and land this.

Two that could definitely mix it up against her is Richard Hannon’s Harbour Grey and Clive Cox’s Crafty Madam. The latter finished fourth on her only juvenile start at Leicester which has not been the best of maidens with only the one winner coming in from the batch. However, Harbour Grey could be the main danger to the selection.

She was behind a useful type in Cercie D’Or from the Gosden yard. The pair were clear of the third and she should come on for that run.

Desert Rain : 2pt Win @ 7/4 (BOG)

15.55 Doncaster – Best Odds Guaranteed At 188bet Handicap (0-90)

Rich and Famous was denied a win on debut last week on the blog, his second to Roger Varian’s Victory Angel should bring him on. but I do have reservations that he was not that straight forward and will probably take another run to get him spot on to record his first success.

Roger Varian has another nice-looking type in this with Ekhtiyaar who got off the mark at the second time of asking at Yarmourh. The son of Bated Breathe who was a useful sprinter in his time should be hard to beat now handicapping off a respected mark of 85, but again I think he could be vulnerable to the selection.

Holmswood also got off the mark at the second attempt when winning on the all-weather at Kempton, that form got franked yesterday when the third Ataaq hacked up at Beverley by seven lengths.

His opening mark now in Handicaps of 84 should see him go close. Another of interest is Johnson-Houghton’s Accidental Agent who notched up two wins as a juvenile at Chepstow and on his last run taking a twenty six field auction stakes race at Newmarket. He just might not get the cover he requires here in this smaller field.

Holmswood : 1pt each way @ 7/1 (BOG)

16.05 Sandown – Bet365.com Handicap (0-100)

A competitive sprint where we see Mark Johnston’s Queen in Waiting at the head of the market. She got off the mark at the second attempt on the all-weather at Chelmsford as a juvenile.

The transition went well when winning on season reappearance at Wolverhampton winning as liked when making all in a 0-85 handicap. This is a marginal step up in class and would probably have to set her own fractions in the race from the front end, but might find things tough to stay there.

Jumira Bridge was impressive when hacking up at Brighton two weeks ago and will make her handicap debut, the third Andalusite recently won a classified stakes race at Brighton easily.

Partitia could be anything for Sir Michael Stoute, she did herself justice as a juvenile notching up wins at Chester and Newbury and was not hardly done when fifth in pattern company at Ayr on her last run as a juvenile. I think she will need the run and even though some think stall 10 is a negative I actually think if she gets across early, she can go close under Moore.

Jumira Bridge : 2pt win @ 11/4 (BOG)

17.30 Punchestown – Betdaq Punchestown Champion Hurdle (Grade 1)

Vroum Vroum Mag will be looking to change her luck here after being surprisingly beaten in the OLBG Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham. With no Apples Jade here she has the chance of taking on the boys here in what looks an open renewal.

Henry de Bromheads Petit Mouchoir added this year’s Irish Champion Hurdle to his resume when beating a small field, but Nicholas Canyon was a faller that day when travelling well, you can see that when beating Uknowhatimeanharry by over four lengths, that form was reversed yesterday with the latter holding on to land the Irish Stayers equivalent by a nostril.

He has something to find with the selection this afternoon from Cheltenham’s Champion Hurdle in My Tent or Yours, he reminds me of Youmzain from the flat who finished runner up in the Arc, you wonder now at the age of ten if he can land a race like this. Personally, he owes connections nothing with four champion Hurdle runner up spots on his resume and I think he would be a welcoming winner this afternoon as he has the class to prevail.

Third in this last year when behind Vroum Vroum Mag, he does have to find a bit against the filly having to give her weight once more. You could not find fault when five lengths behind Buveur D’Air in the Aintree Hurdle who had already bested My Tent Or Yours at Cheltenham and increased that form. He’s just an unlucky type that seems to bump into world stars and has to settle for the bridesmaid spot on many occasions in his career. Even though he always finds one or two too good, at 6/1 he looks a solid each way bet to nothing with 1-2-3 on offer.

The definite danger though to all is Arctic Fire for Willie Mullins, with Ruby retained to ride Vroum Vroum Mag this is a big opportunity for Paul Townend to pick up this race. Runner up to the mighty Faugheen in 2015, he showed his potential when landing this year’s County Hurdle when holding on in a thrilling finish to just deny L’Ami’Serge by the narrowest margins.

Second to Faugheen again in the Irish renewal back in January he has definitely taken his chances with Faugheen absent and he looks the one to beat, but I would not put you off backing My Tent or Yours without the favourite or just each way as he will no doubt make his presence felt with a late run.

Arctic Fire : 2pt Win @ 5/1 (BOG)

18.05 Punchestown – Tattersalls Ireland Champion Novices Hurdle (Grade 1)

I would be very surprised if my banker was turned over here in Finian’s Oscar. Colin Tizzard sent his star to Aintree when competing in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices Hurdle and boy was he impressive when winning by three lengths over Captain Forez who ran a blinder.

The ground looked good -good to soft yesterday which is not going to inconvenience him in the slightest, this will be the icing on the cake for the Potts if he hacks up here and rightly should.

Let’s Dance landed some sizeable bets when winning the Dawn Run at Cheltenham, back in fifth was Asthuria who has franked the form when he landed the 7.15 easily on the card last night. My only question is with only racing twelve days ago has this come far too soon?

This year’s Grade 1 Lawlor’s Hotel Novices Hurdle winner Death Duty was probably unlucky to get rid of Brian Cooper who for me has not shone this season at all. but he drops back to 20f today which should benefit his chances, Brian Cooper retains the ride for Gigginstown Stud.

I am finding it hard to get the selection beaten this evening, with the power in the saddle I actually think he will put these to the sword in good style.

Finian’s Oscar : 3pt Win @ 15/8 (BOG)

18.40 Punchestown – Star Best For Racing Coverage Champion Hunters Chase (24.4f)

Edna Bolger’s prolific course winner On The Fringe is attempting to win this race for the fourth time, he was very below par at Aintree when pulling up in the Foxhunters, but overlooking that he has to be taken seriously once more, around 9/4 – 5/2 to land this looks generous enough.

Balnaslow was unlucky not to land this year’s Foxhunters at Aintree going behind by one and three quarter lengths to Dineur. There’s not much between him and On The Fringe from Cheltenham with just three parts of a length separating them. I would like to think that form can be reversed again.

One at a price here could be Declan Queally’s Minella For Value who is closely matched with On The Fringe and Balnsalow from their Cheltenham encounter. There is just a length between the three.

Minella For Value : 2pts each way @ 10/1 (BOG)

19.00 Chepstow – Dunraven Bowl Novices Hunter Chase (23.4)

Indian Leader represents Mickey Bowen who landed this year’s Foxhunters with Dineur and has another likeable type here. He is making his debut this afternoon around the chase circuit and was not disgraced on his only start in a bumper last season when finishing fifth at Fontwell over 17.4f, a big significant step up in trip. but from a trainer that seems to know how to produce them at this level.

Dangers look to come from Spencer moon and Moral Hazard. The latter is probably the least exposed runner in the race. Runner up on his race course debut at Worcester when trained by Rebecca Menzies, sold on and has been competing around the p2p circuit for Beverley Thomas.

A final appearance was seen at Taunton three weeks ago when finishing runner up over 23f, the jockey was Sarah Davies-Thomas who will ride Moral Hazard. Spencer Moon is 0-11 and has not looked like a win is imminent, has failed to impress on both starts at the Welsh track which included last of seven last time out.

Indian Leader : 1pt each way @ 11/2 (BOG)

19.35 Chepstow – Sun Trade Windows Handicap Chase (0-100)

Phangio has been very frustrating to back with the two times I have put the Matt Shepperd runner forward. He has looked like winning then finds nothing off the bridle, considering he has been double figure prices on his past four runs, they must know something as he has been put in as the 2/1 favourite to land this race.

Now he is a course and distance winner when landing a 0-115 handicap chase last November, also on his return to the course, ran well again when runner up in a 0-105 over course and distance. This is another drop in class which obviously is getting his big chance of notching up his second career win if could enough.

Charlie Mon was giving 2lb to Phangio last time for a short head defeat, they meet on the same terms, but I would like to think Phangio can hold the form now young Stan Shepperd is back on board.

Phangio : 2pt win @ 2/1 (BOG)

Betway Darts Premier League Week 13

Betway – Darts Premier League – Week 13 – 27th April 2017

As the Betway Darts Premier League Finals at the O2 Arena draw ever closer, the race for the top 4 spots is heating up. Thursday 27th April sees the Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham, play host to Night 13 of the Betway Premier League Darts. The night will see Michael Van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis play twice, with Mighty Mike looking to continue his red-hot form after defeating fellow countryman, Raymond van Barneveld, 7-2 last week.

Adrian Lewis will be looking to bounce back after an inconsistent run of form. After igniting the Liverpool crowd two weeks ago with yet another Premier League nine darter and a 7-4 win over van Barneveld, the 32-year-old capitulated on the checkouts last week; hitting only three of his 12 checkout chances and losing 7-3 to 7th placed, Dave Chisnall.

Fixture List-

Betway Darts Premier League – James Wade vs Adrian Lewis

James Wade will look to keep his Premier League finals dream alive in what could be a season defining match with Adrian Lewis. The Machine will have some confidence approaching the match, as he beat Lewis 7-4 earlier this season with a wonderful display of darts. It’s hard to see Wade getting past Lewis however, who often turns up the heat on his opponent at this stage of the season; with maximums and high checkouts.

Skybet – Match Treble – Adrian Lewis to win the match and hit the highest match checkout and score more 180’s than Wade- 5/2

Betway Darts Premier League – Dave Chisnall vs Michael van Gerwen

Dave Chisnall illustrated his fighting spirit last week with two monumental victories over Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis. However, Chisnall faces his toughest opponent in the league this Thursday. Chisnall leads the league for 180s, a factor that not only makes him a bookies nightmare but also a tough opponent for anyone to face. Michael van Gerwen has gone from strength to strength and continues to dominate the PDC circuit, it’s tough to see van Gerwen not getting a win here.

Skybet – Match Double – Michael van Gerwen to win the match and hit the highest match checkout 4/6

Taylor and Wright face off tonight in Birmingham

Taylor and Wright face off tonight in Birmingham Photo credit: PDC.tv

Betway Darts Premier League – Phil Taylor vs Peter Wright

Taylor will be looking to close the gap on Wright in 2nd, sitting one place and two points below Snakebite in the table. Wright has been in majestic form this season, having won the UK Open earlier this year; his first televised title. Taylor will have the upper hand on his opponent however, having beaten him both times they’ve met in 2017. It’s the closest match-up of the night, fine margins will decide this one.

Skybet – Match Result – Draw7/2

Betway Darts Premier League – Gary Anderson vs Raymond van Barneveld

Anderson and van Barneveld face off in a crucial match, both the Scotsman and the Dutchman are on 14 points and are occupying 4th and 5th in the table; Gary edging above Raymond on leg difference. This game should produce the entertainment it promises on paper, and should also provide plenty of 180s. van Barneveld has averaged 4.08 180s this season and Anderson has averaged 3.5, wouldn’t be surprising to see plenty of maximums from these two on Thursday.

Skybet – Total 180’s – Over (7.5) – 5/6

Lewis and van Gerwen take each other on tonight as they both play two matches

Lewis and van Gerwen take each other on tonight as they both play two matches Photo Credit: sportinglife.com

Betway Darts Premier League – Adrian Lewis vs Michael van Gerwen

The power hitting of these two always creates a fast-paced, entertaining match of darts. The two drew earlier in the Premier League campaign, however more is at stake in this match. Van Gerwen is heavy favourite for this match-up; as he always is however Lewis is capable of challenging van Gerwen. A lot could be riding on this match, with results earlier in the night possibly affecting league positions. Both van Gerwen and Lewis are renowned for their high checkout scoring and so expect no different this time around.

Skybet – RequestAbet Special –  MVG and Lewis BOTH to hit 5+ 180’s each5/1

Prince Mahler races off 7lb higher today and Prince Caffrey should be able to turn the tables here, especially with the improvement made with blinkers on last time out. TJ O’Brien takes the ride for trainer John Flint.

Horse Racing Preview - Ayr - 12th October 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Perth, Beverley, Punchestown and Market Rasen – 27th April 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Beverley, Perth, Punchestown and Market Rasen. Two nice winning favourites gave the blog two more winners for the week. I was not disappointed with Someday’s run as to be fair, looked in need of the outing yesterday after missing Cheltenham, also pulled very hard throughout a race that was definitely not run to suit.

13.40 Beverley – Westwood Handicap (0-75) (5f)

Michael Easterby’s handicappers have been in fine fettle this season, the yards entry here is Bosham. The course and distance winner won here on this card last year off a mark of 73, going on to run poorly at Haydock when stepped into 0-85 company.

Over the past five months he has been competing on the all-weather which has seen no signs of a win due soon, but deserved respect now back on turf and course. Lucky Beggar looked to have found a new lease of life when runner up at Redcar last week.

Despite a useful sprinter on his day, it’s just off putting that his last win came almost three years ago when winning a 0-110 at Newbury, will have to build on his recent second to thrive here as on his main form he is way ahead of the handicap.

One I am willing to have a small play on is John Wainwright’s Tick the Boxes, who is also another that has a declined turf form of 1-11 which stretches back three years. If he could actually put his all-weather form to turf he would not be entered in this category.

Only just managed to hold on in a claimer at Gosforth park two runs back and failed to follow up at Southwell two weeks later when beaten a head. It’s just one of those selections that should be entering equations around these poor races.

Tick the Boxes : 1pt each way @ 12/1 (BOG)

14.00 Perth – Murrayshall Hotel & Golf Courses Novices Hurdle (16.2f)

Nicky Henderson looks on the brink of landing the trainers title over the next week and saddles a hot pot here in Top Ville Ben who was looking to make it 3/4 over hurdles when coming to grief at Chepstow under today’s pilot.

His last two runs have seen him out, I am not really convinced he will handle Perth, looking vulnerable and a tendency to make mistakes he could be worth taking him on with James Moffatt’s Golden Town. The once Godolphin trained flat performer commanded a reasonably winning mark of 96 on the turf.

Since joining Moffatt’s set up I think he has done himself justice with some creditable efforts at Musselburgh, being placed on two occasions. They became bold with him when having a crack at Graded level at Haydock in a Supreme trial.

They must think a lot of him to even consider they would have run him in the Supreme Hurdle if he had not pulled up at Haydock, but he was a 100/1 shot that day so optimistic more than positive. I can’t see why he won’t give another good account of himself here even though taking on a well backed Henderson hotpot who does make mistakes.

Golden Town : 1pt each way @ 9/2 (BOG)

15.05 Perth – Lindsay’s  Handicap Hurdle (0-100)

Grand National winning jockey Derek Fox rides my selection in the 3.05 on Mash Potato. The ex Michael Dods inmate and now with Noel Kelly in Ireland, has taken his time to get in front between the flags, almost 21 months, but did it nicely when winning with something in hand at Uttoxeter when beating better graded horses.

His last run probably brought him up into the mid nineties, but the handicapper has been lenient enough to assess him off 89 this afternoon which really should be exploiting. Sports Barrow has to be feared the most now dropping back in trip. Paddy Brennan takes the mount for Colin McBratney.

Mash Potato : 2pt win @ 4/1 (BOG)

15.35 Perth  – Congratulations to Brian Hughes From Stobart Chase (Novices Limited Handicap)

Would it not be ironic if Brian Hughes won this on Malcolm Jefferson’s Spiculas. The eight-year-old missed all of 2015 and most of 2016 through injury, but returned after a 15 month break when finishing second in a 0-120.

Beaten favourite on his next two runs around 0-120 class made you wonder if the handicapper had already managed to grip him. He bumped into my selection for this race, Ryalex, who he beat to one and three quarter lengths when conceding over a stone at the weights.

Spiculas will have to concede another two pound which gives Ryalex a chance to get closer than their Carlisle encounter. The selection was runner on the card 12 months ago beaten fourteen lengths in a maiden contest under the same sponsors, the drying ground should help his cause this afternoon.

Ryalex : 1pt each way @ 15/2 (BOG)

18.40 Punchestown – Ryanair Novice Chase (Grade 1) (16f)

I have been trying to get this Willie Mullins Great Field beaten this evening. The useful French hurdler made his debut for the new surroundings when winning the Foxrock Cup at Lepoardstown when defeating Draco of Aiden O’Brien’s.

Sent straight to the Cheltenham festival last season which saw him pull up in the County Hurdle. Since taken chasing he has thrived no end which included landing a Listed chase at Thurles last month. With only two defeats in his career it looks like he just has to turn up and he wins, but he is prone to jumping errors under pressure and I am hoping Edna Bolgers Ballyoisin can take him on.

He is another that tends to make unnecessary jumping errors which has seen him fail twice in a short career which included behind Bell D’Arca in the Grade 3 Flyingbolt Novice Chase. I actually thought if for not of the error he would have gone very close to win the race. Jumping is the name of the game and if both Ballyoisin and Great Field fail to put in a solid round of jumping Gordon Elliott’s Bell D’Arca will be there to pick up the pieces.

Ballyoisin : 1pt each way @ 7/1 (BOG)

20.00 Market Rasen – 32Red On The App Store Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat (16.6f)

It will be interesting to see how well the Dunguib related Peculiar Places goes on debut for Irish trainer Ronald O’Leary. A 35,000 purchase as a three-year-old has landed on O’Leary’s yard.

Nicely bred by Presenting out of Blue Louisiana is deservedly respected this afternoon, Tom Scudamore has been booked which is eye-catching in itself.

Infinite Sun is another that has to be market checked after outclassed in a Listed bumper at Newbury which saw fifth place finisher champion bumper runner Western Ryder reversing the course and distance win of Infinite Sun.

The third Sneaky Feeling has won twice over hurdles and finished eighth in a Graded 2 hurdles race at the January Cheltenham meeting. I would expect another big return to the course that saw him win first time under rules.

David Elsworth’s Country’n’Western has not shown himself for eighteen months when winning what looked a reasonable bumper at Carlisle. In fact, he humiliated his opposition by fifteen lengths and has elected to run here over tomorrow’s Perth bumper.

It’s a tough one with Infinite Sun returning to a course he scored his first success, Country’n’Western has to be taken on trust that Elsworth has him spot on this afternoon for a race course re-appearance after 18 months, Peculiar Places is very interesting especially with the booking of Tom Scudamore who just swings my decision.

Peculiar Places : 1pt each way @ 9/2 (BOG)

Daily Horse Racing Pro Tips - 9th November 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Wetherby, Navan and Stratford – 23rd April 2017

Our horse racing preview comes from Wetherby, Navan and Stratford. It was not all bad for a Saturday with an advised 15/2 winner and two nice placed bets to bring a small profit on the day.

16.20 Wetherby  – racinguk.com/hd Novices Hurdle (16f)

Both Micky Hammond and Michael Scudamore have good entries here in Blue Hussar and Dinsdale with the latter being the more interesting of the two runners. Dinsdale was nothing special in the flat and has diverted to hurdles quite well when he was rewarded with a win at Newbury after some very consistent placed runs.

He bested a useful yardstick that day in Most Celebrated who franked the form when winning at Plumpton last week. That form was not taken through when beaten at Newbury in a class 2 juvenile hurdle, but his fourth-place finish saw him finishing behind the likes of Deauville Crystal over 18.5f, he drops back to the basic 16f this afternoon and has to be feared once more if the device of the cheekpieces work once more.

The top two in the betting have good form and will not be easy overturning them, but Donald McCain’s entry Viserion has also ran well this year and did well to record a good win by ten lengths in this company at Carlisle on his third start.

The next run was questionable when facing to make an impact at Kelso finishing a long way back on unfavourable ground. He bounced back on his last run when runner up at Sedgefield going behind by one and a quarter lengths when conceding 7lb to the favourite. Progressive type for a yard that tend to do well around these ranks.

Viserion : 2pt win @ 5/2 (BOG)

16.25 Navan – Coolmore Vintage Crop Stakes (Group 3) (14f)

Competitive renewal here which see’s Ballydoyles Order Of St George take centre stage. The versatile son of Galileo had an amazing season’s in 2015/16 notching up wins in the Irish St Leger and Ascot Gold Cup. His attempt to go back to back in the Irish St Leger was foiled by Wicklow Brave, but regardless a place finish in the Arc and Long Distance Cup proved how a dow stayer he actually is and is the one to beat on paper.

Jim Bolger’s Twilight Payment finest hour was when winning the Listed Loughbrown Stakes at The Curragh when beating Forgotten Rules by half a length when in receipt of 12lb. He will have to concede 11lb this time around which is not going to be significant enough to hold that form.

Irish National winning trained Jessica Harrington definitely has a live contender here in Torcedor. He has won the same maiden as O’Briens entry two seasons ago and has already taken the scalps of Twilight Payment & Forgotten Rules last time out at Leopardstown, he was in receipt of 6lb that day and took full advantage of the weights to record a five and a half lengths victory.

He gives just 1lb to Twilight Payment this time around and I would like to think he can sustain that form progressively. Forgotten Rules has a lot to find with the selection this afternoon at the weights and needs to improve.

Torcedor : 1pt each way @ 6/1 (BOG)

16.40 Stratford – Collect totepool Winnings at Betfred shops Novices Handicap Chase (16.9f)

Ray Brotherton’s consistent Deise Vu got his head finally in front at the tenth attempt since leaving Ireland, it came over course and distance eight days ago and are looking to strike again whist the iron is hot. I can’t see the five-pound rise stopping him and should record his second win.

Deise Vu : 3pt Win @ 7/4 (BOG)

FA Premier League, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth 3pm

The Vitality Stadium hosts a huge relegation battle as Middlesbrough travel to Bournemouth with both teams looking to end their recent horrid form.

Relegation is a very serious prospect for Middlesbrough. They currently find themselves in the relegation zone in 19th, 6 points adrift from safety and Hull in 17th.
Removing manager Aitor Karanka and replacing him with coach Steve Agnew hasn’t provided the North-East side with the desired immediate reaction and they have not won in 15 league games.

Boro have only conceded 39 goals, less than teams such as Arsenal and Liverpool. However, the issue is unquestionably the side’s inability to score goals; they are the league’s lowest scorers this season having found the net just 23 times.

In fact, the two goals Boro scored against Hull in their last away match was more than in the previous 8 on their travels combined.
Only four players have netted more than once in the whole side and without top scorer Alvaro Negredo (who only has 8 himself) the team have only managed a dire 14 goals. A win is desperately needed against an out-of-form Bournemouth team to put pressure on Swansea and Hull and reclaim hope of escaping.

The Cherries will feel a victory will see them safe, they are one place above Hull in 16th but have a 7-point cushion from Swansea in the relegation zone. A win would take them to 38 points with just 4 games remaining.

The job of securing Premier League safety seemed likely to happen a lot sooner for Eddie Howe’s men, but an awful run that has seen them win just twice on 13 matches has plummeted the Southern side back towards the danger zone.

If scoring goals is Boro’s problem, its keeping them out that is Bournemouth’s. They have only kept a clean sheet in one of their last 8 home matches too (against Swansea), conceding more than 2 goals in each of the other 7 in the process.

Team News
Bournemouth’s biggest news is that on-loan Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a hairline fracture in his leg in the defeat against Spurs.
Callum Wilson, Andrew Surman, Rhoys Wiggins and goalkeeper Adam Federici all are recovering from knee injuries.
Midfielder Dan Gosling’s knee injury also means he is a doubt.

Key players Victor Valdes and Grant Leadbitter are definitely out for Middlesbrough while Rudy Gestede and Fabio are both doubts. Arsenal loanee Callum Chambers was ineligible to face his former side Monday and had sustained a foot injury but should be fit to play this time around.

Player to Watch
Despite the Cherries’ troubles, Joshua King has had a brilliant season; particularly since the turn of the year. The Norwegian international has 13 goals in the league this campaign with a huge 10 of them coming in 2017 – only the two top scorers in the entire league, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, have more in that time. The 25-year-old has seen a position change to a more central striker role and is reaping the rewards, scoring against such teams as Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton in recent games.

Bournemouth are one of only two possible sides Middlesbrough could do the double over this season – the other being Sunderland. This highlights the struggles Agnew’s men.

Boro will be up against it too, as they have never beaten The Cherries away from home in the league. Only one of Boro’s last 29 away Premier League games against anyone has resulted in a win, against Sunderland in August 2016.

Rudy Gestede is currently on a massive 43 match run without a win in the Premier League. In fact, his only victory in the division came against Bournemouth for Villa – also in August 2016, where he scored the winner.

Horse Racing Preview Aintree Festival Grand National Day 8th April 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Aintree Festival (Grand National Day)

Our horse racing preview comes from the Aintree Festival on Grand National Day. It was pleasant to eventually get a nice winner with Fox Norton yesterday, its not been an easy past two weeks leading up to the festival with the winners being limited, but hopefully we get a bit better run of the green this afternoon on the selection front. The first race on the card would probably scare most punters, twenty two runner handicaps over three miles is not the best of races to fathom out.

Aintree Festival  1.45pm – Gaskells Handicap Hurdle

We start off the day with exactly that, most of these had already competed at the Cheltenham festival and if we were to go on that form I would prefer to look around the mid race finishers. Paul Nicholl’s Zarkandar will have to give weight all round here, the last winner to do so was back in 2012 when Cape Tribulation carried the agonizing weight of 11st 12lb to victory. This has has only been done once since 2000, even though it is not an impossible task I just think he is a bit long in the tooth these days and better off around smaller fields.

Dan Skelton’s No Hassle Hoff is definitely a worthy favourite since The Worlds End went on to win the Sefton Novices Hurdle yesterday. He was seriously put in his place that day when nine lengths off the winner.T he third Ballyarthur has ran creditably again when finishing runner up at Haydock, the fourth Progress Drive has also franked the form when winning at Ayr last month.

The five year old son of Craigsteel should be spot on off the back of both his runs this year in graded company. The one solid negative is that there has only been two winning favourites over the past sixteen years and only one five year old has managed to succeed, even though its only a trend, trends are here to be broken but even though he gets plenty of weight I will over look him once more.

I thought No Comment ran well in the Martin Pipe when finishing seventh to Champagne Classic, even though he was beaten twelve lengths, it does not reflect that he had no passage through off of the turn. He has had the benefit of a run around Aintree when second in a maiden hurdle over 20f. Geraghty had to miss the Cheltenham festival and presently sits on the top jockey rostrum here at Aintree after two days. I would call it compensation time as he probably would have been lucky at Cheltenham and his ride here for Philip Hobbs looks the one to beat.

What a Season Fergal O’Brien is having and saddles here Barney Dwan who was just denied in the Pertemps when Presenting Percy came with a perfect timed challenge to land the race in good style. He will have to concede an extra 5lb to The Tourard Man this time around who stayed on to finish a good fourth, six and a half lengths off Barney Dwan, but even so I would be surprised to see that form get overturned this afternoon. I do have a concern though that this is not his trip and its probably on the threshold of his better index which I feel is around 19f, just a bit too far for me.

Desert Cry was seen here last Spring when beaten over course and distance by just over nine lengths, but since then he has racked up three wins which has seen him raised to a mark of 150, 25lb since just before Christmas. His win last time came in a 0-140 handicap at Ayr on heavy ground and with his 10lb penalty he could be very vulnerable on this quicker ground. For Good Measure was behind both The Tourard Man and Barney Dwan last month and realistically he looks up against it to reverse the form at the weights.

No Comment : 2pt each way @ 10/1 (BOG)

Aintree Festival 2.25pm – Mersey Novice’s Hurdle

We move swiftly on to the 2.25 and an excellent Mersey’s Novice’s Hurdle renewal which has attracted a very strong field. I am not convinced that the ground will not be soft enough for Alan King’s Messire Des Obeaux this afternoon, with most of his hurdles form coming on softer ground, you cannot take away that he ran a blinder in the Neptune.  But the ground and trip saw him out on the day and once more he will be tackling quicker conditions which brings me to over look him. On the other hand Lough Derg Spirit who represents leading trainer Nicky Henderson who also has the interesting Cultivator in the race could go well.

The former won a shade easily at Musselburgh despite only two and a half lengths between them at the line. Pending how he runs here he will return to Scotland later in the month to compete in the Scottish Champion Hurdle where he could be a warm order. One I am interested in here is Henderson”s second string which see’s Barry Geraghty get back on him for the first time since his bumper win two seasons ago. He gained his first success at Ascot when winning a Novices hurdle over 19.8f when beating Paul Nicholl’s Bagad Bihoue who was coming off  the back of a good win at Wincanton. He went on to run well in the Grade 2 NIM Winter Hurdle at Sandown park when he finished just under three lengths behind Messire Des Obeaux.

He was beaten once again by Messire Des Obeaux when they met in the Challows Novices Hurdle at Newbury on New Years Eve going behind by a bigger margin of twenty four lengths. He was not convincing next time out at Kempton Park last month when just holding off Just Before Dawn. I would like to think he could improve more than he has shown, with Geraghty booked to ride you could probably not write him off that easily. But realistically he would have to seriously step up to overturn some good novices in this race.

Two more that come into the equation is Ben Pauling’s Le Breuil and man of the moment ColIn Tizzard’s Finian’s Oscar. The former represents a yard I have enjoyed following over the past two seasons, watching Barters Hill coming through the ranks and the likes of Willoughby Court landing the Neptune when beating the hugely fancied Neon Wolf, which we saw Messire Des Obeaux back in a good third. Le Breuil is coming off the back of comfortable wins at Sedgefield and Newbury when beating Benatar of Gary Moore’s by nine lengths. They meet again and I would like to think that the form could be reversed. He is a talented gelding, but its the ground concerns I have with him this afternoon.

Finally, we come to the selection in Colin Tizzard’s Finian’s Oscar. I actually tipped him up when he was supposed to run at last month’s festival, but Tizzard has held on to him and bypassed to bring him here on a flatter and quicker course. The unbeaten son of Oscar won the Grade 2 Tolworth Novices Hurdle on his second start when winning by five lengths. It was not the strongest of races that has already been documented, but I actually thought his win at Exeter in a Listed event was spot on. He was entitled to win at with a solid round of jumping, smooth as you like and now turns up here to attempt to keep his 100% record intact and I think he can.

Finian’s Oscar : 3pt Win @ 7/2 (BOG)

Aintree Festival 4.20pm – The Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle

The next race I want to move on to is the 4.20 The Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle. Now Despite Colin Tizzard having a cracking second day, I am going to stick to his stable jockey here when Robbie Power gets up on Jessica Harrington’s Supasundae. A horse i have followed ever since he won a Listed bumper at Ascot three seasons ago. I really fancied him to win the Champion Bumper that year, but he probably bumped into one of the strongest fields that year with the likes of Yanworth, Moon Racer, Modus and Bellshill in the race, horses that went on to make it over hurdles. The following year I had already backed him to land the Supreme and he did himself justice in again, one of the strongest supreme’s for a while, which saw the winner Altior, Buveur D’Air, Tombstone, Min, North Hill Harvey and Petit Mouchoir in the race.

After his run at the Punchestown festival when again he disappointed, he made his re-appearance when failing to show any old sparkle trailing in a disappointing eighth in handicap company. He stayed around handicap company and got an average win at Punchestown on new years eve and followed that up when runner up to Sutton Place in the Grade 3 Limestone Lad Hurdle. Beaten again by Sutton Place a month later at Naas, and I was starting to give up on this talented seven year old.

Then it all paid off, the patience all the training came into one when he went away under Robbie Power to land the Coral Cup, had they found a key to him now he had been stepped up in trip. He will tackle three miles for the first time, I think he will see out the trip, has a good turn of foot and the step up in the Coral Cup worked. He’s a hold up performer and the race with a little pace would set him up nicely coming home in front hopefully.

The thing is they all have to beat Yanworth, Alan King’s talented seven year old should relish this stronger, flatter course. He never looked right from a long way out in the Champion Hurdle, in fact it was a route I would never have gone, but I am not the owner or trainer. This is the first time he has been out this late of the season, he usually finishes up at last month’s festival and a long summer break is on the card, but they must fancy their chances bringing him here, and why not, you have to be in it to win it. I would not be at all surprised to see a big run form Ptit Zig in this.

Paul Nicholl’s has won this race four times, but nothing over the past four renewals which has seen Nicky Henderson land the race twice in the past three years. This is a big chance for Nicholl’s to cut into that deficit for the trainers’ title and one that can get him close here is Ptit Zig. Every time he has competed in the Cleeve Hurdle he has come out and produced a season’s best. He has something to find with Cole Harden from their Cleeve Hurdle encounter, but this year he has not been given a hard time of it, they bypassed France and Cheltenham last month, this just might be a chuck in effect or a very shrewd piece of training.

Supasundae : 2pt Win @ 13/2 (BOG)

Ptit Zig : 1/2pt each way @ 20/1 (BOG)

Cheltenham Festival Preview 2017

Cheltenham Festival Preview 2017

One of the biggest Horse Racing events starts today – The Cheltenham Festival – which means we’ve some time out from football to look the main races of the day from the festival to give our tips and opinions.

13:30 – Cheltenham Festival – Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)

Willie Mullins goes into the Supreme Novice’s Hurdle with 4 runners and the best backed is Melon with Ruby Walsh aboard. Last month’s Betfair Hurdle winner Ballyandy is 2nd favourite and the Twiston – Davies duo could be where the value lies. Nicky Henderson’s River Wylde could also go well for the most successful Cheltenham trainer, as he looks to fight off Nicholls and Mullins this year.

Favourite – Melon
Value Tip / Bet – Ballyandy
Each Way – Bunk Off Early OR River Wylde

2.10pm – Cheltenham Festival – Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase (Grade 1)

Nicky Henderson’s unbeaten Altior is an odds-on favourite and quite rightly so. From the same yard as Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig, the 7-year-old looks un apposable, especially since deciding to not go for the Champion Chase against Douvan. Kim Bailey’s Charbel, who came 2nd to Altior at Sandown in a Grade 1 previously, along with Willie Mullins’ Black Caviar look to be the best of the rest.

Favourite – Altior
Value Tip / Bet (without Altior) – Black Caviar
Each Way – Charbel OR Cloudy Dream

2.50pm – Cheltenham Festival – Ultima Handicap Chase (Grade 3)

Singlefarmpayment leads the market for the handicap chase. Unbeaten in 2 races at Cheltenham, the Tom George trained horse is very well weighted compared to Gordon Elliot’s Noble Endeavour who has gone up 11lbs since its win in during Christmas. Holywell and The Druids Nephew look to be able to run into place money.

Favourite – Singlefarmpayment
Value Tip / Bet – The Druids Nephew
Each Way – Holywell OR Noble Endeavour

3:30pm – Cheltenham Festival – Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy (Grade 1)

Yanworth has won 7 out of 8 on the hurdles and is the favourite for Alan King. Having beaten The New One at Kempton, Yanworth has the beating of the Twiston Davies Gelding. Nicky Henderson’s Barain Power looks to have a decent chance though has a rise in class. Buveur D’air moves back to hurdles and has beaten Petite Mouchoir as well as coming 3rd to Altior in the Supreme Novices Hurdle last year and could well be the danger to Yanworth. Whoever the winner, this is sure to be one of the biggest races at today’s Cheltenham Festival.

Favourite – Yanworth
Value Tip / Bet (without Yanworth) – Buveur D’air
Each Way – Brain Power

4:10pm – Cheltenham Festival – OLBG Mare’s Hurdle (Grade 1)

The betting is all focused on the 2 Willie Mullins’ runners, Limini and Vroum Vroum Mag. Both previous Cheltenham Festival winners and could could take a lot of beating though Apples jade beat Vroum Vroum Mag on her return at Fairyhouse. Jer’s Girl will enjoy the trip but will find it hard to beat the Mullins pair.

Favourite – Limini
Value Tip / Bet – Apple’s Jade
Each Way – Jer’s Girl OR Lifeboat Mona
