Sweden vs Korea Republic – Match Preview

Sweden vs Korea Republic
Monday 18th June 2018
FIFA World Cup 2018, Group F, Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, Nizhny Novgorod

Live on ITV 1 – Kick-Off: 13:00 GMT

Sweden vs Korea Republic – Sweden and South Korea meet in what already looks like a must-win game for both countries should they wish to advance from the very difficult Group F.

Both sides fought hard to make it to Russia. After a brilliant qualifying campaign, Sweden finished 2nd to France in Group A but saw off the challenge of perennial World Cup outfit Italy in the play-offs to seal their place.

Korea started brightly, winning seven qualifying matches without conceding a goal in the second round. The third was not so easy. Shock defeats to Qatar and China brought the end of Uli Stielike’s reign and former u23 coach Shin Tae-yong was hired to steady the ship. Which he did, helping The Reds qualify for their 10th World Cup and ninth in a row. The most achieved by any Asian side.

Germany and Mexico face off in this group’s other game of the matchday. Reigning champions Germany are nailed on to get out of the group. Mexico have reached the Round of 16 in the last six World Cups. This screams trouble for both Sweden and Korea, once again highlighting the importance of three points here.

Sweden head coach Janne Andersson has created a strong team ethos, who are well-organised and defensively sound. They all work for each other. The omission, or lack of presence of the monstrous individual that is record-goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, may or may not have something to do with that.

There is still genuine quality in the squad, however. Marcus Berg has filled the large scoring shoes of Ibrahimovic, hitting eight in qualifying. RB Leipzig playmaker Emil Forsberg is a player with the ability to change a game too. Forsberg is 17/2 to be first goalscorer with SkyBet, an excellent price.

Sweden have good World Cup pedigree, coming runners-up to Brazil in 1958 and third in 1950 and 1994 too. However, it would take something rather miraculous for the Scandinavians to replicate those heights.

It would be even more unlikely should Korea do anything of the sort. Even getting out of the group would be a massive achievement. In Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min there is real star power though. History has told us that such an asset can take a team beyond their perhaps otherwise unfancied means. Both Son and Sweden’s Marcus Berg to get on the scoresheet is 15/2 with SkyBet.

Other notable players include highly-rated RB Salzburg youngster Hwang Hee-Chan, and captain Ki Sung-yeung of Swansea City, who has now made over 100 international appearances. There is perhaps a lack of experience in the squad, as only 5 players have over 50 caps, but Korea may well spring a surprise.

Prediction – Sweden 2-0 Korea

The Swedes will remain solid and have too much for Group F’s underdogs. That result can be found at 15/2 with SkyBet.

Sweden vs Korea Republic will be televised live in the UK on ITV 1 with Kick Off at 13:00 GMT.

Peru vs Denmark- Match Preview

Peru vs Denmark
Saturday 16th June 2018
FIFA World Cup 2018, Group C,  Mordovia Arena, Saransk

Live on BBC 1 – Kick-Off: 17:00 GMT

Peru vs Denmark – both nations are back at the World Cup after absences of different lengths and face off in what is likely to be the decider for 2nd place in Group C.

Argentinian coach Ricardo Gareca, nicknamed el tigre, has led Peru to their first World Cup since 1982. Los Incas shaded double Copa America winners Chile out of CONMEBOL qualifying and gained entry to the tournament after beating New Zealand in the play-offs.

Denmark will also be hoping to make an impact in Russia. Age Hardide’s team made it to their 5th World Cup via a Christian Eriksen hat-trick in a 5-1 demolishing of Republic of Ireland in the play-offs.

France, one of the tournament’s favourites and Australia make up the remaining sides in Group C. Though Australia are always capable of a surprise, it is expected Peru and Denmark will battle it out for the runners-up position. A crucial game to get both teams underway in this tournament.

Peru will be boosted now that a resolution has been found with captain and star Paulo Guerrero. The nation’s all-time leading goal-scorer, Guerrero was initially banned from playing at the World Cup for failing a drugs test. However, upon appeal a Swiss tribunal overturned the decision, much to the delight of Peruvians everywhere. Guerrero to be first goal-scorer is 7/1 with bet365.

As much as Guerrero is a focal point for Peru, the same can definitely be said of Eriksen for Denmark. The Tottenham Hotspur playmaker notched 11 goals and three assists in his 12 appearances. A fantastic return for anyone, much less a midfielder.

Denmark and Peru have never stepped out onto the hallowed turf together in history. So this has all the making of an intriguing World Cup clash. Different continents, different styles, in new territory. Unpredictable written all over it. Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is 7/4 with SkyBet.

BBC have got coverage of the match, which kicks off at 5pm BST Saturday 16th June at the Mordovia Arena.

Prediction: Peru 2-1 Denmark

West Ham vs Manchester City – Match Preview

West Ham vs Manchester City
Sunday 29th April 2018
FA Premier League, London Stadium

Live on Sky Sports Premier League – Kick-Off: 14:15

West Ham vs Manchester City – Premier League Champions Manchester City are on the hunt for records as they travel to relegation-threatened West Ham United.

After securing the title two weeks ago, Pep Guardiola’s side are now seeking to be as dominant as possible. To claim the prestigious pseudo-title of ‘best Premier League side ever’. Brace for some incredible stats.

After 34 games City have 90 points. Just two wins will see The Sky Blues break Chelsea’s 2004-05 record of 95 points. Three wins and a draw from facing West Ham, Huddersfield, Brighton and Southampton – which is surely a given considering the respective clubs’ positions – will see City become the first side to ever break the 100-point mark in the Premier League. Astonishing.

Additionally, six more goals will see the goal-scoring record, which was also Chelsea’s (103 from 2009-10), broken too. City have scored two or more 28 times this season. In stark contrast, only Stoke (18) have conceded two or more on more occasions than the Hammers (17) this term. It would be a safe bet to assume both of those totals increasing.

Whilst the numbers may seem dry, the figures being posted are impossible to ignore. Guardiola’s team have romped to the title by playing the most fluid, eye-catching and penetrative football. Kevin De Bruyne narrowly missed out on the PFA player of the year to Liverpool’s red-hot Mo Salah, but the Belgian, and fellow superstars David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane to name a few, have been unplayable throughout the campaign.

Falling short to Liverpool’s own brand of swashbuckling football in the Champions League (5-1 on aggregate), and to a resilient performance by Wigan (1-0) in the FA Cup, the Premier League is where City have made their mark. It will undoubtedly be a mark that is difficult to erase.

At the other end of the table, West Ham are still embroiled in a relegation battle. A six-point gap from 18th is breathing space but face difficulties with City, Leicester, United and Everton still to play. Anything other than a defeat will surely be a bonus from this match, however.

If David Moyes manages to (and it seems likely) keep West Ham safe he will have achieved minimum expectations. Some credit is due. But the long-term direction of the club, amongst fan upheaval and boardroom dismay is still questionable at the least.

Refereeing this one will be Neil Swarbrick. The Englishman has one of the lowest average booking points per game and is still to give a red card. In his 19th Premier League game of the season he may face some difficulty in maintaining that figure, however. West Ham have the division’s worst disciplinary record, with a league-high 69 yellow cards and 21.8 booking points per match.

West Ham vs Manchester City will be televised live in the UK live on Sky Sports Premier League, with kick-off at 14:15.

Prediction: West Ham 0-3 Man City

It is hard to look beyond yet another comprehensive victory for the Premier League Champions.

Did you know: If Man City score 2 or more goals today – we land a 125/1 RequestABet from our opening day preview back in August. The bet was Mohammed Salah to score 15+ Goals and Manchester City to score 100+ goals this season at odds of a 125/1 !!!

Suggested tips – West Ham vs Manchester City – (BET365):

  • Manchester City to win to nil – (link no longer available).
  • Correct score, Manchester City to Win 3-0 – (link no longer available).

Suggested tips – West Ham vs Manchester City – (SKYBET):

  • Le Tissier’s RAB: Jesus & Sane to score and Manchester City 3-0 – 33/1.
  • @FootyAccums RequestABet – Sterling & Jesus to score and Evra & Zabaleta to be carded@FootyAccums RequestABets – West Ham v Manchester City – 80/1.
