The start of the flat horse racing season is here with Wincanton and Naas featuring in our horse racing preview.
Today is the start of the flat horse racing season. We have a new guest editor, Darren Chettleburgh, who has a passion for juvenile two year old’s on the flat and is sharing his horse racing preview for today’s start to the flat horse racing season with us here at Betalyst.
Darren’s preview features two meetings this afternoon from Wincanton and Naas.

15.15 Wincanton – Ryan Direct Group Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

We start our horse racing preview for today off at Wincanton. Paul Nicholls is looking to grasp another trainers championship away from Nicky Henderson and can get the ball rolling with Captain Bucks.

The five year old gelding probably won a shade cosily at Kempton when defeating Like the Sound by one length. His past form has come around Somerset track Taunton.  His bumper form stands well, when behind the likes of Bags Groove who has subsequently gone on recently to win over hurdles a few days ago.

Any dangers in the race could come from the improving Lillington who has ran creditably in both starts this year. Beaten favourite last time out at Hereford, he was well put in his place on the heavy ground that day losing by nine and a quarter lengths. He has competed over further than this when tailing off over 21f at Warwick last year, but stepping back up in trip this afternoon he could still be well treated on a mark of 115.

I am going to presume that Captains Buck will not be the best of odds to play with, but he should be really exploiting his current mark of 124 which looks generous.

Captains Buck : 3pt Win (BOG)

16.10 Naas – Lodge Park Stud E.B.F. Park Express Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3)

The flat season gets on the way in Ireland as we are treated to pattern company in the Group 3 Express Stakes. The smartest filly on show here is Aidan O’Brien’s Somehow. and last year’s Cheshire Oaks winner makes her appearance in what looks an average looking renewal this afternoon.

She did not do herself justice when she could only manage fifth in the Group 1 Irish Oaks when behind stablemate Seventh Heaven, but she has already been mapped for a return to this course next month where she has entries in the Gladness and Alleged Stakes.

No doubt Somehow is the class on paper against unknown quality, but I want to take her on with a reasonable price and we could see an improved run from Jim Bolger’s Legitimus.

Her only career win came in a maiden at Gowran Park over today’s index and did it well by three and three quarter lengths. She ran well when third in the Group 3 Flame of Tara Stakes at the Curragh and held that form well when beaten by Eziyra in the Group 3 Weld Stakes on her last run.

She is well bred by Lawman through the bloodline of Galileo, and I would like to think she can improve on her juvenile career, with an entry in this year’s Irish 1,000gns, she should show a good transition from her three year old campaign.

Legitimus : 1pt each way (BOG)

Germany vs England Match Preview

Germany vs England Match Preview

Here’s our Germany vs England Match Preview which kicks off at 19:45 tonight and can be watched on ITV.

Gary Cahill takes the captaincy for tonight’s friendly against Germany in Dortmund at 7.45pm.

Gareth Southgate manages his first game as permanent England Manager after being Caretaker Manager for England’s previous 4 games.

England are without Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Daniel Sturridge due to injury which gives Jermain Defoe, Jamie Vardy and Marcus Rashford a chance to lead the line. Raheem Sterling missed training on Tuesday and is a doubt and Michail Antonio withdrew form the squad due to a hamstring injury earlier in the week.

Germany will be without Manuel Neuer, Julian Draxler, Mesut Ozil and Mario Gomez as they miss out due to injury. Lukasz Podolski will captain Germany in his final appearance at International level.

Germany have lost only one of 18 games played in Dortmund, losing to Italy in the 2006 World Cup.

England have lost only one of their last 16 away Internationals, back in November 2016 to Spain.

With both squads missing key players and with World Cup qualifiers to play this weekend, I expect the game to end in a draw – that in mind – Skybet have some very lucrative Request-A-Bets (RAB) on offer tonight.

The 50/1 No Goal Scorer/No booking points could be a good shout, however, the last time round these 2 sides met in a friendly in Germany, we thought the game would be a bore-draw – only for it to be a 3-2 thriller, with England coming back from being 2-0 down.

If you fancy a repeat of the last fixture than you may prefer the massive 450/1 England to win 3-2, 4+ Corners in each half and 20+ booking points each team could be more suited.

With it being a friendly we advise avoiding to many bets involving booking points.

Betlayst Picks from SkyBet’s Request a Bet (RAB) offers: –

  • Podolski to score, 4+ Corners Each team and Dele Alli to be carded – 40/1  [CLICK TO BET NOW]
  • Both Teams to Score, 5+ Corners each team and 10+ Booking Points each team – 14/1  [CLICK TO BET NOW]
  • Germany to Win, under 2.5 goals, under 11 match corners and under 30 match booking points – 10/1 [CLICK TO BET NOW]
  • No Goalscorer & No Booking Points – 50/1 [CLICK TO BET NOW]
  • Vardy to Score First & Dier to be shown the first card – 100/1  [CLICK TO BET NOW]
  • Muller to Score & Cahill to be carded – 22/1  [CLICK TO BET NOW]
  • England 3-2, 4+ Corners in each half and 20+ booking points each team – 450/1 [CLICK TO BET NOW]
  • Over 4.5 goals, 15+ Match Corners, and 70+ Match Booking points – 500/1 [CLICK TO BET NOW – MARKET REMOVED]
  • Leroy Sane to Score first and Germany to Win 3-1 – 100/1 (Scorecast boost)  [CLICK TO BET NOW]

Codeshare – 2/1 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 22nd March 2017 – Haydock 2.40pmHowdens Joinery Mares’ ‘national Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle

Notes

Codeshare won over course and distance less than 3 weeks ago and is aiming for a hat trick win and looks the one to beat as Mark Johnston’s Final has top weight.

Water Wagtail ran a good race when finishing 3rd on its last start and the step up in distance will suit the Emma Lavelle trained horse, with Daryl Jacob on board.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 21st March 2017 – Clonmel 1.55pm – Goatenbridge Maiden Hurdle

Strike Is Back 4/7 – NAP 5pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 21st March 2017 – Exeter 2.30pm – Higos Insurance Services Bideford Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 21st March 2017 – Southwell 4.25pm – Sunbets.co.uk Handicap

War Department 7/2 – 3pt stake

Gordon Elliott’s Strike is Back looks the stand out horse in this meeting. Finishing 2nd on its latest outing in a Maiden Hurdle race, running on towards the finish. Running only 3 days later but dropping in trip, the 5 year old mare will enjoy the run for the in form trainer.

War Department has been in excellent form for Keith Dalgliesh and though the draw may not be ideal, the 4 year old will give a good solid run and can notch its 2nd win of the month.

Cheltenham Festival Day 4 preview

Cheltenham Festival Day 4 preview

Here’s our Horse Racing preview for the Cheltenham Festival day 4.

Cheltenham Festival Day 4 – 1.30pm – JCB Triumph Hurdle (Grade 1)

Defi Du Seuil has won 3 out of 3 here at Cheltenham and has also won all 5 starts over hurdles and looks a strong favourite. Landofhopeandglory has good stamina and the heavy ground on its last outing did not suit. Nicky Henderson’s Charli Parcs fell in the Adonis at Kempton but the trainers believe the horse to be back in good form.

Favourite – Defi Du Seuil
Value Tip / Bet – Landofhopeandglory
Each Way – Charli Parcs

Cheltenham Festival Day 4 – 2.10pm – Randox Health County Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)

North Hill Harvey runs for Dan Skelton, who has 3 entries in this race, looks to be the stable selection. He won the Greatwood at Cheltenham and has a great chance. Mick Jazz came third in its only Handicap race and could go well for the in form Gordon Elliott.

Favourite – North Hill Harvey
Value Tip / Bet – Air Horse One
Each Way – Mick Jazz

Cheltenham Festival Day 4 – 2.50pm – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)

Death Duty beat a Grade 3 winner at Navan and then a Grade 1 winner at Naas. Though slightly lucky due to a fall from Augusta Kate, Gordon Elliott’s horse should give a good account. The Worlds End ran a fine race when coming in 2nd to No Hassle Hoff, with the winner receiving a 7lb pull on the runner up.

Favourite – Death Duty
Value Tip / Bet – The Worlds End
Each Way – Augusta Kate

Cheltenham Festival Day 4 – 3.30pm – Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase (Grade 1)

Cue Card has won at the festival twice before and though he fell in last years Gold Cup, he was travelling very well. The only concern would be his age and the Colin Tizzard trained horse may struggle to overcome some of the younger horses. Stablemate Native River has won the Hennessy, Welsh National and beat Bristol De Mai in the Denman Chase. He looks to be the main danger to Djakadam, who has come up against Outlander on a few occasions recently. Sizing John could be the surprise outsider, having come 2nd to Douvan at last years Arkle and this season, stepping up to 3 miles, having beaten Empire of Dirt.

Favourite – Djakadam
Value Tip / Bet – Sizing John
Each Way – Native River

David’s Tips for the Day

Each Way Double – Defi Du Seuil ( 1.30pm) and Air Horse One (2.10pm)

Single Win – Death Duty (2.50pm)

Each Way Single  – Native River (3.30pm)

Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Preview

Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Preview

Here’s our Horse Racing preview for the Cheltenham Festival day 3.

Cheltenham Festival Day 3 – 1.30pm – JLT Novices’ Chase (Grade 1)

Yorkhill has a had an up and down start to chasing but has stamina as seen last year in the Neptune.  With Willie Mullins saying the horse could be a potential Gold Cup horse, Yorkhill will take a lot of beating. Top Notch should be his closest rival for Nicky Henderson who has made a great start to chasing and won a Grade 1 on his last start at Sandown as well as being a regular at the festival.

Favourite – Yorkhill
Value Tip / Bet – Politologue
Each Way – Top Notch

Cheltenham Festival Day 3 – 2.10pm – Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle (Listed)

Tobefair has been raised 63lbs for winning 7 consecutive races in a row and looks as though it may struggle, though does warrant respect. Presenting Percy has also been raised 16lbs but the Irish horse looks to still be improving. Isleofhopendreams should be close for the Mullins/Walsh combination.

Favourite – Presenting Percy
Value Tip / Bet – Isleofhopendreams
Each Way – Rocklander OR Tobefair

Cheltenham Festival Day 3 – – Ryanair Chase (Grade 1)

An exciting race where Un De Sceaux takes on Uxizandre again. The pair fought it out at the Clarence House Chase in January where Un De Sceaux won by 5 lengths. Uxizandre ran very well considering it had not run since 2015, winning this race. Alan Kings horse could reverse the placings with a run under the Geldings belt. Empire of Dirt ran very well last month when behind Sizing John in the Irish Gold Cup last month and has a great chance.

Favourite – Empire of Dirt and Un De Sceaux
Value Tip / Bet – Uxizandre
Each Way – Empire of Dirt

Cheltenham Festival Day 3 – 3.30pm – Sun Bets Stayers’ Hurdle (Grade 1)

Unowhatimeanharry looks to be the class act in the field. Winning its last 8 races and has had most of this field trailing behind him. Jezki , a Champion Hurdle winner in 2014 looks as though it can go close if reproducing its earlier form. Shaneshill has an each way chance having beaten Snow Falcon in January. Cole Harden won this race in 2015 and the good ground will be a plus.

Favourite – Unowhatimeanharry

Value Tip / Bet – Ballyoptic OR Cole Harden

Each Way – Clondaw Warrior OR Shaneshill

Cheltenham Festival Day 3 – 4.10pm – Brown Advisory and Merriebelle Stable Plate Handicap Chase ( Grade 3)

Diamond King won the Coral Cup last year and has only a 1lb difference from last year as Gordon Elliott looks to add to his tally at Cheltenham. Starchitect has won off its current mark and last years County Hurdle winner looks a strong prospect to overturn Baron Alco over this longer trip after losing back at Plumpton. Henryville, who will enjoy the ground, could also go close.

Favourite – Diamond King

Value Tip / Bet – Henryville

Each Way – Starchitect

Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Preview 2017

Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Preview 2017 – Image from Day 1 of Noel Fehily celebrating winning the Champion Hurdle on Buveur D’Air. Photograph: David Davies/PA

Here’s our Horse Racing preview for the Cheltenham Festival day 2.

Cheltenham Festival Day 2 – 1.30pm – Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)

Willie Mullins has 4 in the Neptune, Bacardys being the best of the 4 runners. 3rd in the Champion Bumper last year, Bacardys has been touted to go and win at this longer trip. Harry Fry takes Neon Wolf to the festival and the former points winner has its first run under rules.

Favourite – Neon Wolf
Value Tip / Bet – Bacardys
Each Way – Bon Papa OR Shattered Love

Cheltenham Festival Day 2 – 2.10pm – RSA Novices’ Chase (Grade 1)

A tough race to decide upon a winner but Alpha Des Obeaux has a tentative vote. The 7 year old ran a blinder in the World Hurdle last season, finishing 2nd to Thistlecrack and though disappointing last time out, trainer Mouse Morris explained the horse had bled. Nicky Henderson’s Might Bite will also have a chance, running well on its re appearance at Doncaster last time out.

Favourite – Might Bite
Value Tip / Bet – Alpha Des Obeaux
Each Way – 00 Seven OR Our Kaempfer

Cheltenham Festival Day 2 – 2.50pm – Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)

Gordon Elliot’s Tombstone leads the market as favourite and was 4th in last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle as well as beating Jezki in a Grade 3. River Frost has a 10lb rise in weights though the Alan king trained horse is running very well and looks as though it will fight out the finish with Tombstone. Willie Mullins has 5 in this race and Tin Soldier heads the line with Ruby Walsh aboard.

Favourite – Tombstone
Value Tip / Bet – River Frost
Each Way – Tin Soldier OR Taquin Du Seuil

Cheltenham Festival Day 2 – 3.30pm – Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase (Grade 1)

All eyes will be on Douvan for the Champion Hurdle as the Willie Mullins trained Gelding looks to make it 14 wins in a row. The 7-year-old looks extremely well treated and in the past 2 years at Cheltenham, has won the Arkle and the Supreme Novices’. God’s Own could be the ‘Without the fave’ bet. The 9-year-old has lost 3 this season but has run well in defeat and looks the best of the rest.

Favourite – Douvan
Value Tip / Bet – God’s Own
Each Way – Sir Valentino OR Fox Norton

Cheltenham Festival Day 2 – 4.10pm – Glenfarclas Chase (Cross Country Chase)

Cantlow didn’t have the best of runs at the venue in January when finishing 2nd but things didn’t fall right for the 12-year-old. Making the running did not suit and the race was a handicap, conditions should suit Enda Bolger’s Gelding. Gordon Elliot’s Cause of Causes could go well and Sausalito Sunrise, trained by Pat Hobbs, takes on a different test but should be capable of running into the places.

Favourite – Cantlow
Value Tip / Bet – Sausalito Sunrise
Each Way – Cause of Causes OR Auvergnat
