Surrounding made a good start to racing when 2nd in a maiden at Dundalk. Halford and Foley combine for a horse will progress further. Aasheq for Weld and Smullen will be the obvious danger but has not run for 337 days.

Horse Racing Preview - Doncaster - 16th September 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Newbury – 22nd April 2017

Our horse racing preview comes from Newbury with selections across the card. Just the one winner yesterday with John Gosden’s Shutter Speed who looks a very nice prospect. We hit the bar on a couple of occasions also which was a little frustrating.

On to a packed Saturday of racing with all the selections coming from Newbury with the highlighted Greenham Stakes on the card.

13.55 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes (Group 3)

I would like to think Sir Michael Stoute’s Midterm will be hard to beat on his seasons reappearance. He did not show what he was capable of after winning over 8f on soft ground around here before going on to land the bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown.

What went wrong is bemusing considering he was expected to win the Dante and gave a no show when finishing only fifth. He showed some kind of promise when running second in the Prix Niel at Chantilly, it was something to build on but once more failed to show up at Ascot in the Group 1 Champion Stakes.

The jury is still out on him for me, he has the potential to succeed in this pattern sphere. Will need to step up to the plate this year as I cannot see him going beyond to next season, but trainer and jockey have won the past two renewals.

John Gosden sends Muntahaa who landed last years Listed Chester Stakes, the turf form over the 12f has seen him fail, but did win his maiden on the all-weather at Kempton over the index, surely to improve for a yard that are banging in winners over the past week.

His run at Doncaster when behind an adversary here in Chemical Charge who was in receipt of 6lb for 3.75L, off level weights should see that form reversed, Champion jockey Jim Crowley steps up to the plate.

Muntahaa : 1pt each way @ 15/2 (BOG)

14.30 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Stakes (Fred Darling) (Group 3)

John Gosden’s Dabyah could be a tall order to overturn in this competitive renewal. The daughter of Sepoy won her first two starts as a juvenile which included a nine-length win over course and distance, signing off with a good third in the Group 1 Marcel Boussac at Chantilly.

I would expect her to show more now making her transition, this looks a stepping stone towards the first classics with an entry in the 1000gns, but she will be very short in the market and it’s made me look for value in the race with Richard Hannon’s Promising who is still looking for her first win of her career, but was not disgraced as a juvenile when beaten favourite in the Jack Berry House stakes and was just denied in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood on her last run.

She has the potential to come on this year, she is the daughter of Invincible Spirit and gets a passage towards the 1000gns in a couple of weeks. Richard Farley places last year’s Lowther Stakes winner Queen Kindly in to mix.

Promising : 1pt each way @ 11/1 (BOG)

15.05 Newbury  – JLT Greenham Stakes (Group 3)

Richard Hannon once more is well represented with Barney Roy who was impressive when landing his Haydock maiden by just under four lengths. The runner up Fujaira Bridge recently franked the form when winning a maiden at Ripon. Even the third Crowned Eagle went on to win next time out.

For me though I’m sticking with Stoutes Zainhom who won his maiden at York beating two current winners from that race in Dick Tracey & First Up.

His second in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Goodwood saw him finish two lengths behind Group 1 Saint-Cloud runner up Best Solution. The third The Anvil franked the form last month at Dundalk. The fourth Montetaire won the Listed Stonehenge Stakes thereafter. Some strong claims in this with two against the field, but the tentative vote goes to Zainhom who should be thereabouts.

Zainhom : 1pt each way @ 6/1 (BOG)

15.40 Newbury – Be Wiser Insurance Spring Cup Handicap (C2)

A trainer that does not get the best of recognition is Martyn Meade who seems to have some really nice recruits to have a go this year with. Chelsea Lad looks one of them, two from three wins last season both coming at Newmarket which included a nice win in 0-90 handicap on the Rowley.

I am asking myself with form around headquarters why he bypassed this week’s Nell Gwyn meeting to have a crack at this. He is probably ahead of the current mark of 96, significantly Ryan Moore steps in for the mount.

I can’t see many dangers in the race, Donncha is probably the likely one to give him the most to think about. This is a good point to return after a good third in the Lincoln last Month.

Chelsea Lad : 2pts each way @ 5/1 (BOG)

Others on the card that have realistic chances would be Commander who runs in the 16.15, he is the son of Frankel and should improve from his eighth over course and distance as a juvenile. I like Simon Crisford’s Archetype at a price in the 16.45, is well related to 7f/8f winners and could give a good account of himself each way around 14/1.

The finale UAE King could be hard to beat for trainer Roger Varian. Looks to have potential if the penny drops with this Frankel Colt.

Commander : 16.15 Newbury – 1pt Win

Archetype : 16.45 Newbury – 1pt EW

UAE King : 17.20 Newbury – 2pt Win

Here is our horse racing preview for Friday 21st April 2017 across UK and Ireland Horse Racing today, unit stakes advised upon each selection.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 21st April 2017 – Bath 4.55pm – British Stallion Studs E.b.f. Novice Median Auction Stakes

Mutanaaseq – 2/1 – 2pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 21st April 2017 -Bath 6pm – Whitsbury Manor Stud & EBF Stallions Lansdown Stakes (Fillies’ Listed)

Ostatnia – 15/2 – 1pt stake (EW)

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 21st April 2017 -Southwell 6.15pm -bookies.com Free Bets Open Hunters’ Chase

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 21st April 2017 – Dundalk 6.25pm – Hen & Stag Packages At Dundalk Stadium Handicap

Buddha Boy – 11/4 – 2pt stake

 Notes

A tricky day at the races today and the selections are at low stakes. Mutanaaseq should be a big player here with Richard Hannon in good form at the moment. The well bred colt runs for the first time today and his half brother won first time out here in 2014. Danger would be the Tom Dascombe 2 year old, Big Time Maybe.

Horse Racing Preview - Newbury - 1st December 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Newmarket and Cheltenham- 21st April 2017

Our horse racing preview comes from Newbury and one selection from Bath. It’s been a hard few days on the Rowley with just the placed selections bringing in a loss, but for the week just turning over a small profit on the point count. There are five selections I am confident that should go well on Friday.

14.30 Newbury – Compton Beauchamp Est Ltd Silver Bar Hip (0-100)

Andrew Balding’s Swashbuckle looked in need of the run when third on re-appearance on the all-weather at Newcastle last month. With two good wins last season off 73 & 78 at Ffos Las, he has been raised another 7lb but I actually feel now they are stepping him up further and with the fact he is actually lightly raced, should go very close in this.

Alan King is double handed here with Oceane and Rainbow Dreamer. Obviously the interesting of the pair is the latter with Ryan Moore booked. Nine lengths behind Defi Du Seuil in the Triumph Hurdle trial this year and we know how that turned out with the winner going on to land the Triumph Hurdle and Grade 1 Doom Bar at Aintree.

It’s surprising with that kind of background over hurdles he has only managed just the one win on the level from eight attempts. This is a big step up though considering only competing around the 0-85 brackets, could be vulnerable and will no doubt return hurdling in the near future.

Oceane is currently second favourite, joint with the selection. Another mix bag of running in both codes, his last win on the flat came at York when landing a similar event over 16.2f, this trip for me can see him out in my opinion and has not been in the best of form on the all-weather in his return.

Swashbuckle : 1.5pt win @ 7/2 (BOG)

15.05 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup EBF Stallions Conditions Stakes  (10f)

The name of the race is enough to get you out of breathe by just saying it, but regardless of that I do think John Gosdens filly can do the business on her race course debut. Shutter Speed is the well bred daughter of Dansili who just managed to hold on by a neck at Yarmouth on her debut over 8.1f. The fact she was kept until the back end of her juvenile status, I would predict that there is more to come in her transition focus.

The trainer also has Enable in the race who will be ridden by William Buick. She was very impressive when on debut on the all-weather at Newcastle at the back end of the flat season. Surprisingly though she has not been seen since November and will make her turf debut this afternoon.

Sheikh Mohammad’s 3/4 million pound purchase Dubawi Prince will represent Roger Varian’s yard. He stepped up on his first transition run to win a Doncaster maiden which for me was nothing special, probably see him in better light this season in handicap company.

Raheen House I put forward when declared to run at Doncaster on the opening day of the flat season, but he was pulled out due to the ground, a winner in a York maiden last October he was then pitched in the deep end when running fifth in the Racing Post Trophy when behind Rivet who was beaten easily yesterday in the Craven Stakes.

It’s difficult to assess the ground dependency for him, failing on good to firm and soft in his career and with the ground riding quicker than usual this time of year he looks vulnerable for me.

Shutter Speed : 3pt win @ 11/8 (BOG)

16.10 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Handicap (0-100)

John Gosden is very well represented here with Chessman who does have a 2000gns entry in a couple of weeks. The son of Acclamation won with plenty in hand on his only juvenile start at Kempton when overcoming a very difficult draw.

That day he beat a useful type in Esprit De Corps who landed a massive gamble at Bath last week. On pedigree, the guineas distance should be more effective for him, but for now stays around 7f and should be landing this race under Dettori.

I can’t see many dangers in the race, Stoutes entry Pivoine could be the main danger, third on debut at Newmarket when behind Via Egnatia who was beaten convincingly this week at Newmarket. The runner up Never Surrender was beaten by Dubawi Prince at Doncaster early this month.

Chessman : 2pt Win @ 7/4 (BOG)

16.40 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Handicap (0-110)

I would like to think Roger Varian’s smart sprinter Double Up can land this race. It’s been eighteen months since we saw him land a big handicap at Ascot when fending off a big field.

Since then Double Up has failed in eight starts to get his head in front, has been rising at the weights which has done him no favours, but if he brings his last season’s Portland run to the table then we could see him going close.

Michael Easterby has had a great winter with his runners on the all-weather and I do like his entry here in Bowson Fred. He looks about ready to strike after some good efforts on the all-weather this year when notably just denied by the smart sprinter Kimberella in the Betway Dash, that winner went on to win at the Champions all weather meeting.

Bowson Fred : 1.5pt each way @ 9/2 (BOG)

18.30 Bath  – Clifford Hillier Handicap (0-65)

A low graded affair which should be going to Archie Watson’s Attain. Not the greatest of races and even though he has failed to win since the turn of the year, the runs have been consistent enough to see him win here.

His form returning to turf puts him around 5lb ahead of the handicap, with a win in a 0-70 last year at Sandown he would not have to do much to land this average contest. Best of the rest comes from the Oliver Greenhall yard in Spirit of the Vale.

She has won twice this year on the all-weather at Newcastle off marks of 46 & 51, not a bad run when fifth at Redcar on season turf re-appearance, but does look exposed on turf off current mark.

Attain : 3pt win @ 7/4 (BOG)

Here is our horse racing preview for Thursday 20th April 2017 across UK and Ireland Horse Racing today, unit stakes advised upon each selection.

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 20th April – Cheltenham 2.40pm – EBF/Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Chase (Listed)

Plaisir D’Amour – 11/2 – 1pt stake (EW)

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 20th April 2017 -Ripon 4.30pm – Ripon ‘Cock O’ The North’ Handicap

Kittens Johnstown – Evens – 3pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 20th April 2017 – Lingfield 4.40pm – Barry Baz Weller 80th Birthday Handicap

Lord Murphy – 2/1 – 2pt stake

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 20th April 2017 -Tipperary 5.10pm -Tipperary Races Fillies Maiden

Dabulena – 10/11 – 3pt stake

 Notes

Kittens Johnstown made a winning debut at Ayr last September as a two year old and the form looks good as the 2nd has gone out and won next time out. The colt holds an entry in the Irish Derby and looks to be the one to beat.

Lord Murphy has been running very well, winning and then just losing out when placing at Wolverhampton. Upped 4lb but an improving gelding who should go close once more. Adam Kirby takes the ride today.

Horse Racing Preview - Nottingham & Kempton - 8th November 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Newmarket – 20th April 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Newmarket, with 3 selections across the card. Wednesday came as a complete washout after some questionable performances, but no point in sitting here complaining about it, it is what it is for the start of the flat season. Let’s get down to it and hopefully the run of the green comes our way.

13.50 Newmarket – Bet365.com Handicap (2) (6f) 0-100

There looks solid value in the race with Mark Johnston’s Rich & Famous who won over course and distance last August. There was something amiss when he finished last in the Listed Rockingham Stakes on his last run as a juvenile.

I would like to think there is more to come from the son of Bernardini who showed promise on his first run which has thrown pattern winners. There are a couple of serious dangers in the race, probably more so from the Roger Varian Victory Angel who has run two good races at Doncaster which resulted in a placing in a maiden when behind Tafaakhor who recently won at Brighton.

On his return to Donny, he won decisively when landing the Cock of the North maiden, Castlecare ran well when fourth in the Listed JLT Stakes at Newbury and drops back to 6f this afternoon.

Rich and Famous : 1pt each way @ 13/2 (BOG)

14.25 Newmarket – Bet365 Handicap (2) 7f  0-100

David O’Meara introduces his Range Rover Hcp winner from this year’s Dubai carnival in Salateen who has been improving with every run this year which has seen him win the Listed Wulfruna Stakes on the all-weather and at the all weather championships, ran third to the useful Sovereign Debt.

Salateen won over course and distance back in the autumn in this company in a 0-105 and make his presence felt under Ryan Moore. Tabaarak has been bumping into some useful types which has included the likes of pattern winner Thikriyaat and Atlantic Sun who won on the all-weather in France.

The Hannon runner has been gelded and should settle more into this race, with a decent draw in stall 2 and current champ Jim Crowley taking the ride. The biggest danger to all is John Gosden’s Castle Harbour. After winning his first two races of his career which included over course and distance, a good run in the Jersey Stakes when sixth and built on that when third to Sovereign Debt at Doncaster which saw the likes of Kimberella back in fifth. That form has turned out solid with Kimberella notching up two wins from the new campaign which included the Sprint Championship win at Lingfield.

Castle Harbour ran terribly in the Doncaster Stakes on seasons re-appearance but drops bank to 7f this afternoon which should sharpen him up, Frankie Dettori is riding with confidence, notching up two winners yesterday which included the Nell Gwyn.

Castle Harbour : 1pt each way @ 13/2 (BOG)

15.35 Newmarket – Bet365 Craven Stakes (Group 3) (8f)

Last year’s Racing Post winner Rivet turns up her for William Haggas, the smart son of Fasting Rock has some big engagements on the racing calender in 2017.

He was put in his place by Churchill in the Dewhurst when finishing a fading fifth and I am not expecting any improvement on his first appearance, but had to be respected on the back of his juvenile form. One they all have to best is Aidan O’Brien’s War Decree who I think will win this year’s 2000gns.

Yes, it’s a bold statement, but we are only a couple of weeks away from the first classic of the season. I watched his Superlative Stakes run here last year and even though he was beaten by half a length on the day, the improvement was swift when reversing his defeat to Boynton in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes.

The runner up is the horse to take the form line on. Thunder Snow this year has won the Group 3 UAE 2000gns and the Group 2 UAE Derby and would be interesting if turning up at Newmarket in two weeks’ time for a possible clash with War Decree who is sired by War Front, a classic star in the making.

War Decree : 3pt win @ 9/4 (BOG) NAP

Dyson’s Girl – 15/2 – 1pt stake (EW)

Horse Racing – UK / Ireland – 19th April 2017 -Sedgefield 7.30pm -Durham Lifting Handicap Chase

Treat Yourself – 15/8 – 3pt stake

 Notes

Al Mansor has been lightly raced and finished a good 3rd at Kempton in a handicap. Makes his tapeta debut and should go close for the in form Hannon yard.

Treat Yourself won at Newcastle in emphatic form over 2m7f and though the race fell apart in running, the 6lb rise is justified. A repeat performance will see the gelding win.

Horse Racing Preview - Newmarket - 3rd November 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Newmarket and Cheltenham- 19th April 2017

Our horse racing preview comes from Newmarket and Cheltenham. Very disappointed with the Haggas horse yesterday who could only manage a middle place effort, but the main racing has turned up this afternoon with two meetings I will be supporting.

13.50 Newmarket – Weatherbys General Stud Book Online Handicap

Nigel Tinkler is very well represented here with Normandy Barriere who will surely go well fresh as he had done off a reasonable layoff with three recorded wins last season which included the Jack Berry House Handicap at Haydock. His Doncaster win was mighty impressive going away from his field in the closing stages.

He was closed for the season when performing below par in the York Coral Sprint, effectively I thought the draw bested him, if he returns in the same frame he should be there about.

Toofi brings a runner up spot from the Stewards Cup and a placing from the Ayr Gold Cup last season, his first run of the season came at Doncaster and even though he finished wayward the run was not that bad considering, a player for the placings.

A horse I have been following is King Robert, I backed him last time when winning a good conditions race at Chester last year, even though he was becoming costly to follow I typically missed my tracker when I was flagged he was running at Wolverhampton when winning well at a massive price of 14/1.

He really should have beaten Dubai One in his return back to Wolverhampton last month when going down by a neck. He is much better than that and off a mark of 95 I think he can exploit the handicapper.

KING ROBERT : 2pt each way @ 13/2 (BOG)

14.25 Newmarket – Bet365 European Free Handicap (Listed)

Seven Heavens & Sir Dancealot set the standard here in this Listed event. The former won two of his three starts as a juvenile for John Gosden. The son of Frankel never showed that ability when stepped into pattern company when finishing last in the Dewhurst Stakes.

He became very sweaty at the stalls and just blew up from the outset and lost the race from the start, he is definitely a future prospect, but over this trip he looks vulnerable. Sir Dancealot had a busy two-year-old campaign notching up wins twice on the all-weather at Kempton before going on to land the Rockingham Stakes at Ascot.

He ran well over course and distance last autumn when touched off in third in the Group 3 Tattersall Stakes when a short head behind the likes of Aidan O’Brien’s Whitecliffsofdover who he meets again.

He was put into the deep end when competing in the Racing Post Trophy and actually equipped himself well when finishing a creditable sixth. His only win came over 6f and I have always thought 7f is a specialist index to get, for that I will overlook him this time around.

Whitecliffsofdover will get further than this, the son of War Front has his form line through the last mentioned. If he had thrived over the winter his two juvenile pattern placed runs which included behind Salouen who was beaten yesterday in the Fielden Stakes behind Khalidi, but the front two were well clear of the rest so the form looks rock solid.

Majeste is the most interesting one in the contest, his form line hooks up with Whitecliffdofdover from the Rivet form. Hannon’s runner was five lengths behind Rivet in the Champagne Stakes, and with O’Brien’s form through Salouen in the RP Trophy these two could be the best form line in the race.

MAJESTE : 1pt each way @ 15/2 (BOG)

15.00 Newmarket – Bet365 Earl of Sefton Stakes (Group 3)

I might be hypocritical on Dubai form, but I am not a fan of the formline and for that reason I want to instantly dismiss Folkswood’s chances here. Fine, he was runner up in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta, and that form was held by Muffri’ha who finished runner up on champions day on the all-weather on good Friday last week.

His wins have come around handicap company and has had more placed runs around pattern company and I would not be surprised if the trend stays. Viren’s Army has changed hands to Godolphin after winning the Dee Stakes at Chester, he is another winner from the Meydan festival when turning over the fancied Kidmenever of Charlie Appleby also owned by Godolphin.

His win at Nottingham last October came over today’s trip of 9f, that was on heavy ground, he has shown he is versatile after his win in Dubai on quick ground over 9.9f.

Sir Michael Stoute sends two here in Autocratic and Abdon, the latter won over 10.4f at Haydock last year, but that form is suspect and showed when beaten in the Doonside Cup at Ayr and was comfortably held in the Darley Stakes over course and distance on his last run. Autocratic won a maiden at Sandown last June and was just denied by Ode to Evening over 10f here at Newmarket.

Beaten out of sight on his return over 10f he was sent to York where he picked up a good purse over 10.2f when beating Great Order in a 0-110 handicap. He looks to me the best chance of the two Stoute runners this afternoon, the jockey booking is also significant.

Bravery represents David O’Meara, the Lincoln winner is an ex inmate of Ballydoyle who failed to shine winning just a maiden over a mile from double figure starts.

He is definitely no forlorn hope here considering the Lincoln runner up Oh This Is Us nearly pulled off large bets from the Lincoln when Ryan Moore would have smashed many six figure bets. The runner-up though went on to win a valuable handicap at Bath recently and for me Bravery could be a nice type to win a few handicaps this season, the question is can he cut it in Group company? I am willing to give him a serious chance.

BRAVERY : 1pt each way @ 9/1 (BOG)

15.35 Newmarket – Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes (Group 3)

It’s times like these I detest to see trainers put two in the race, no doubt they both will be trying on their own merit, Aidan O’Brien saddles both Roly Poly and Brave Anna.

The latter looks the pacemaker for Moore on Roly Poly. But Heffernan is no mug as he showed when beating stablemate in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes last season. The Albany Stakes winner has tenacity, speed and a good turn of foot, she has entries in this year’s 1000gns on UK and Irish soil.

Roly Poly took last year’s Cammidge Stakes over 6f and runner up in the Lowther when behind Queen Kindly. She reversed that form in the Cheveley Park, her disappointment at the Breeders was a surprise, but she returns fresh and entered with stablemate for the 1000gns, she had a busy juvenile campaign and my concern is if she peaked too early.

Two against the field are both French raider Pamplemousse and Andrew Baldings Poets Vanity. The former represents Andre Fabre who won well on the all-weather at Chantilly on her first race course start.

She is lovely bred by Siyouni out of Acatama, she is not here for a day out and she could be an interesting one to follow this season based on her pedigree. She could be heading for the French 1000gns this season if she shows a pleasing transition oh her first three year old start.

Oisin Murphy will thrive this season on the turf and the young man gets a leg up on one that’s of interest, being Poets Vanity. She is 2/3 which included taking the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes over course and distance as a juvenile.

She is one to keep a close eye on if her transition and winter has gone well, but she will have to step up to beat the French raider this afternoon.

PAMPLEMOUSSE : 2pt win @ 7/2 (BOG)

15.15 Cheltenham – Arkells Brewery Handicap Hurdle (Class 2)

Bypassing Aintree, this is very good chance for Dan Skeltons It’s’afreebee to bounce back to better form that saw him placed in last year’s Neptune. He does have the tendency to switch off in a race which has cost him in jumping errors and more success.

Again, we have seen some poor runs from Nicky Henderson’s entrants since the festival has gone and Nicholls is doing no better. Henderson has Divine Spear in this who finished a good third off 127 at the turn of the year.

He has run creditably since finishing second at Ascot behind Air Force One and went to Kempton to once more get bested but is by a useful type in Brio Conti of Paul Nicholls, who went on to finish a good fifth in the Mersey Hurdle.

Drumcliff looks to be the danger to all, the Harry Fry six-year-old is by Presenting who had failed to get his head in front since winning a bumper. He brings a Listed run to the table from Musselburgh when finishing fifth in the Scottish County Hurdle. He will have to step up again, but has the right pilot on board in Noel Fehily.

Horse Racing preview Newmarket 18th april 2017

Horse Racing Preview – Newmarket – 18th April 2017

Our horse racing preview today has 2 selections from Newmarket. It’s been an exceptional Easter weekend with some nice winners to boot. Yesterday was a tough day but with Phangio again running well and Diamond Fort bringing another good price winner to the blog,  the day turned out in profit once more.

There are some good races to look over tomorrow and some decent flat races at Newmarket with some potential stars in the maidens.

13.50 Newmarket – Bet365 Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes (8f)

This race should bring some good pointers of whom to follow this season. John Gosden has two nice looking entries here in Damocles and Mark of Approval. The latter is probably the pick of the two here who cost $400,000 at the sales, the half-brother to the smart Faydhan who commanded a rating of 102 in his career and won on his course debut over 6f.

Damocles cost just 130,000 as a yearling, the son of Siyouni will have an aid in debut this afternoon being the tongue strap and sounds like he could be a bit boisterous for his first run. Charles Hills entry here is Dawaaleeb who is related to High Command, the sire Invincible Spirit brings speed to the pedigree along with staying power in Chester House who is the dam-sire, I would like to think he is worth watching in the market.

Godolphin have actually hit the ground running, which by their standards with juveniles have not been that great in recent years and there best representative here looks to be in Night Circus.

He is another by invincible Spirit, half-brother to useful mile and a quarter winner Momayyaz, he is guaranteed to get up to 12f plus on pedigree being related to Bauer but this just might be a stiff starting point with more potential on show.

Another trainer in form is Richard Hannon who has booked the cheeky Italian to ride his daughter of Canford Cliffs. Jalela is well related to winners. but to suggest she can overturn the boys here is definitely a big ask. William Haggas won this last year with the smart Sky Kingdom and once more gets a Frankel offspring to go to war with.

Elyaasaat has a Dante & Derby entry later this year, he is half-brother to Alghareed, and on pedigree alone he warrants respect starting at the 8f index, he potentially looks as though he will be kept for 10f this year. There has been significant support already for him from 11/4 into 9/4 and could be as short as 2/1 come post time.

ELYAASAAT : 2pt Win @ 9/4 (BOG)

14.20 Newmarket – Montaz Restaurant EBF Stallions Novice Stakes (5f)

I promised myself this year that I was going to back Hannon’s juveniles blind. Lethal Lunch started off as most of Hannon’s juveniles do at Windsor. He was exceptionally green and did not look forward enough to suggest a win was imminent. I got a recent second opinion when Endeavour won last week and I might have made a rash judgement.

Lethal Lunch is apparently well thought of by the trainer and his seventh on debut at the Sussex course was a below par performance and with that knowledge on board he looks open to much more improvement this afternoon and should be putting his best foot forward this time around.

Charlie Appleby. has another nice-looking colt in Sound and Silence, being by Exceed & Excel they usually benefit for a run over the optimum trip to be stepped up quickly to 5.5f – 6f. Never Back Down should also be there on the premises representing Hugo Palmer. An early foal by Kodiac who was seen costing in the region of 100K. Well related to one and a quarter winner Consort, this could be too sharp on debut.

I am hoping Legal Lunch can use his race course experience this afternoon. The likely dangers look to come in Sound and Silence and possibly Never Back Down with the former the main danger.

LETHAL LUNCH : 1pt each way @ 6/1 (BOG)

Notes

Therthaar won a hatrick at Wolverhampton around this time last year and then had a disappointing run at Hamilton on the turf when finishing 6th. Back on the Tapeta and with Silvestre de Sousa in the saddle, the 4 year old should be able to get back to winning ways here.

Galactic Power is seeking a hattrick of wins after winning at Catterick and Exeter. The 7 year old gelding is upped 8lbs but that shouldn’t stop the progression.
