Chelsea vs Newcastle United – Match Preview – Chelsea host Newcastle in Premier League action this Saturday at Stamford Bridge in the early kick off.

The hosts did enough to fend off a struggling Swansea City who visited them midweek in the Premier League with an Antonio Rudiger goal being the difference. However, the 1-0 score line was flattering to the Swansea side who allowed Chelsea to have an astonishing 21 shots and 15 corner kicks.

The visitors have been in poor form as of late with their most recent outing, a draw with West Brom, being their only point in their last five matches. A goal from Ciaran Clark and a Jonny Evans own goal helped the Magpies to crawl back from a 2-0 deficit, showing good character.

Chelsea are currently third in the Premier League, three points behind Manchester United in second spot. Spanish striker, Alvaro Morata, has been firing on all cylinders for Antonio Conte with eight league goals and four assists thus far. Their new system has seen Eden Hazard push forward as a second striker which has seen him grab three goals and two assists, a prolific attack.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Chelsea to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 3/1

Newcastle are currently 12th in the Premier League, with 15 points from 14 matches. A strong start from the Magpies has meant their recent slip in form hasn’t affected their league position just yet. Whilst they are unlikely to get a result this weekend, they are a very organised unit and will be hard for Chelsea to break down. Their main issue has been that they didn’t have an established goal scorer amongst their ranks; defender Ciaran Clark is their current top scorer. Tough, but not impossible.

Skybet Match Result – Newcastle to Win – 12/1

Chelsea have kept a clean sheet in 50% of their home fixtures this year and Newcastle are nowhere near their toughest visitors.

Skybet Clean Sheet – Chelsea to keep a Clean Sheet – 8/11

Chelsea have averaged only 19.6 booking points this season. A very well-disciplined side that don’t lose their cool. If things go to plan then they shouldn’t see too many cards.

Newcastle have averaged just over 5 corners per match this season. Their pace on the wings and up front means they can very quickly get in behind defences to win corners.

Kevin Friend will take charge at the Bridge, in his eighth appointment of the season. He’s been very lenient so far this season, awarding an average of only 21.4 booking points.

Arsenal vs Manchester United – Match Preview – Saturday sees inform Arsenal take on Manchester United as Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho meet once more in the Premier League.

Arsenal have been in great form recently, losing just one of their last ten games in all competitions. Wenger’s side have also won their last four games which has seen them leap up to fourth in the league table. With their North London rivals Tottenham stuttering, the Gunners now sit four points and three places ahead of them.

A huge factor in Arsenal’s recent resurgence has been the return to form of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. The German, in particular, has stood out recently, and was their star man in Arsenal’s 5-0 home win in midweek against Huddersfield. Sanchez too has played his part, with the Chilean picking up another goal in midweek to take his tally to six goals for the campaign.

Ozil’s performances have been much better in the past month Photo Credit: skysports.com

Wenger’s men have also been much better defensively. Since the return of Shkodran Mustafi, Arsenal haven’t conceded and have kept four consecutive clean sheets. With the Arsenal backline finally coming to terms with the new back three Wenger wants to operate with, they’re beginning to reap the rewards and gain results.

Manchester United come into this match off the back of their impressive 4-2 win at Watford. It was an important win for United as they had lost their last two league away games before this fixture and three of their last four away matches in all competitions.

Whilst many pundits have pointed to the gap at the top of the Premier League table, it is worth noting that only three of Sir Alex Ferguson’s 13 title-winning sides had amassed more points at this stage of the season than Mourinho’s men this campaign. Not only does this quash suggestions that United are underperforming but it also highlights how good Manchester City have been.

Arsenal have lost only one of their last six meetings against Manchester United in all competitions, with United failing to win at the Emirates since 2014. Whilst Mourinho holds a great record against Wenger, he has yet to beat his old enemy since moving to Manchester.

Can Lukaku find his goalscoring touch against Arsenal Photo Credit: skysports.com

Whilst games between these two sides are always tasty, there is little to suggest there will be many booking points on Saturday. Manchester United have the sixth best disciplinary record in the league, whilst Arsenal are ninth. The two teams only average a combined 37 booking points this season. Similarly, Saturday’s referee Andre Mariner has dished out the seventh lowest amount of yellow cards this season, with an average booking points total of 29.4 this season.

With both sides in good form, I can see this being a tightly contested match. With Mourinho a master at getting points away from home in big away games, I think he’ll definitely get something at the Emirates. Manchester United to win or draw double chance would be my bet.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United

Horse Racing Preview - Newbury - 1st December 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Newbury & Doncaster with one selection from each meeting.

13.50 Newbury – Ladbrokes Novices Chase (Grade 2) (Registered As The Berkshire Novices Chase) (19.8f)

Two big guns take on each other this afternoon in Yanworth & Willoughby Court, the former was last seen when falling at Exeter, it’s hard to say how close he would have gone when falling early doors, he will have to have recovered his confidence this afternoon if he is to take the scalp of the selection, however he has to be respected and the Grade 1 winning hurdler will have to show he is a force.

One I have put in my tracker for the rest of the season is Ben Pauling’s Willoughby Court, The Neptune winner comes here off an impressive display when winning on his chase debut at Huntingdon, he made a few jumping errors which was to be expected, he should have learnt from that experience and for me can dictate matters from start to finish.

WILLOUGHBY COURT : 3pt Win 2/1 (BOG)

14.00 Doncaster – Mister Softee Nostalgia Handicap Chase (19.2f)

Master Burbridge could not have been more impressive last time out when easing to the front approaching the last to exert to record an easy four and a half lengths success at Plumpton. He will have to overcome a 7lb rise this afternoon, however his future mark will return to 115 after this run, he might be an improving type but he is taking on some excellent chasers.

Monbeg River is coming off the back of a good third at Wetherby last October, he looked in need of a run, and he has to be respected. The selection comes in the way of Tom Georges Drumlee Sunset who sets a very high standard off the back of last season. The seven year old gelding has adapted to the larger obstacles well which saw him win a Novice chase at Exeter on debut when trained by Philip Hobbs, he was also runner up in this last year to German Calling when off a mark of 133.

With just being 3lb higher this time around and an extra run behind him despite pulling up on his last run last season at Ayr, he looks well treated off current mark of 136.

DRUMLEE SUNSET : 2pt Win @ 7/2 (BOG)

Leeds United vs Aston Villa - Match Preview

Leeds United vs Aston Villa – Match Preview – Two footballing heavyweights go toe to toe on Friday night as Leeds United host Aston Villa at Elland Road.

After struggling for form, Thomas Christiansen’s side have won two of their three games to move them back in the race for the play-offs. A win in the Yorkshire derby against Barnsley will no doubt have lifted the spirits of the camp as they look to try and grab their second home win since September.

Alioski has been in great form for Leeds, scoring in his last 4 games Phot Credit: skysports.com

The return to form of Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski has been vital for Leeds, with the pair grabbing six-goals between them in Leeds’ last five games. Whenever they have looked at their best, these two have played well. With Pierre-Michel Lasogga only grabbing two goals since joining the club, the onus is on other players to try and make up the numbers and they have stood up to that challenge.

After conceding just one goal in their first six league games, Leeds have struggled recently at the back. They’ve collected just one clean sheet in their last seven games, conceding 13 goals, almost two a match. With Leeds struggling to score goals at the moment it’s imperative they recapture that early season defensive solidity if they’re to find their way back into the promotion race.

Adomah has been a vital part of Villa’s good form with 10 goals so far this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

Aston Villa secured back to back home wins at the weekend as they marched past Ipswich 2-0.  Albert Adomah grabbed his 10th and 11th goal of the campaign, meaning he has managed five goals in his last three appearances. That win lifted Villa up to fourth, leaving them just five points behind Cardiff City who occupy second. With nine wins from their last 12 matches, this has been a real purple patch for Steve Bruce’s men as they hunt down the top two. With three of their next four games all against promotion rivals, these next few games could determine if Villa will be in the hunt for automatic promotion or the play-offs come May.

Both Leeds and Aston Villa have scored more than two goals in 47% of their matches this season, which only adds to the excitement for this matchup. Similarly, 57% of Leeds’ games this season have had over 2.5 goals in, the joint second highest in the whole division. Villa sit just below that mark with 52%.

Leeds have only lost one of their last nine meetings with Villa and haven’t lost at Elland Road since December 2000. That being said, only a goal or fewer has separated six of those nine games and I expect Friday’s match to be another tight affair. With both sides needing those crucial three points to propel them up the table, I think there definitely will be goals, with BTTS a safe bet.

Prediction: Leeds United 1-1 Aston Villa

SKYBET: ADOMAH TO SCORE FIRST AND VILLA TO WIN 2-1- 30/1

SKYBET: BTTS AND LEEDS TO WIN- 9/2

SKYBET: SAIZ AND DAVIS TO BOTH SCORE- 17/2

SKYBET: BTTS IN BOTH HALVES- 20/1

SKYBET: LEEDS TO WIN 1-0, 2-0 OR 2-1- 9/4

SKYBET: LASOGGA TO SCORE A BRACE- 10/1

SKYBET: SAMU SAIZ AND ALBERT ADOMAH TO BOTH SCORE IN 90 MINS – 10/1

Horse Racing Preview - Newcastle - 30th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from this evening’s meeting at Newcastle.

20.15 Newcastle – Sun Bets On The App Store Classified Claiming Stakes (8.1f)

Henpecked (75)
Intermodel (74)
MidniteMudcrabs (73)

Alan Whillian’s Henpecked drops back to 8f for the first time on the all weather in her career, she has been placed on six occasions on the all weather circuit which have all come at either 10f or 12f. Her turf form also has been over longer trips, she is an interesting one in the race especially getting the services of Joe Fanning.

Intermodel won over a mile at Kempton last December when landing her maiden by a nose when trained by Amanda Perratt, that maiden has produced winners around both codes. She had a year off and came back when she looked like in need of the run when only managing fifth at Kempton when stepped up to 10f, With a run behind her on the all weather at Chelmsford she finished behind one of her adversaries here in Makaakib, she was conceding 4lb and will get a 6lb turnaround and a 2lb pull this time around, she should be a lot closer.

Interesting irish contender here in Midnitemudcrabs who has been a regular to Dundalk this season. Her last three runs have come in this company with one of those coming when winning off 73, she has been holding that form ever since and makes her only second visit to the UK this evening, her other run came on turf at Musselburgh when third to Set in Stone on soft ground.

I just cannot stand positive enough on Henpecked despite her tackling 8f for the first time in her career, Intermodel has also showed a reasonable level of form, but the tentative vote goes to the consistent claimer Midnitemudcrabs who sets a good standard.

MIDNITEMUDCRABS : 2pt Win @ 7/2 (BOG)

20.45 Newcastle – Bet & Watch At Sunbets.co.uk Maiden Stakes (8.1f)

I do not usually tend to get involved in maidens, however two at the bottom of the card here from two top stables make serious appeal. John Gosden tends to hold back a few nice three year old’s to go into the next season and saddles Middle Creek here. She is the daughter of Poets Voice and well related to some nice milers in her pedigree.

Roger Charlton’s Ambrosia is another filly progeny of the mighty Frankel, She has had trouble finding the winning enclosure hitting the bar on three occasions which included a second off 73 at Kempton over today’s trip. I am not a fan of seeing Frankel horses diverting to the all weather and this time around she is looking exposed.

On to the selection, Godolphin’s three year old’s on the all weather have a positive return, Valley of Light is a filly by Dubawi, she has failed on two occasions on the all weather to make an impact over 10f, dropping her back to 8f looks the right way to go. She does have something to prove here and hopefully the first time visor can do the trick.

VALLEY OF LIGHT : 2pt Win @ 3/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Hereford - 29th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Hereford & Wetherby with a selection from each meeting.

14.40 Hereford – Abf The Soldiers Charity Mares Handicap Hurdle (16.2f)

Miss Night Owl (129)
Apache Song (120)

Olly Murphy’s Undefined Beauty is attempting the hattrick this afternoon, she has won twice this season off a mark 0f 107 and will have to deal with a 10lb rise at the weights, but she is a very progressive sort and gets the inform Dicky Johnson on board.

James Eustace’s Apache Song came on from what looked a short flat career to take a Novice hurdle by just under two lengths at Market Rasen eight weeks ago off a mark of 119. The runner up and the third have both recorded wins recently off marks of 108 & 109 respectably, however this would make Apache Song’s win very flattering.

The selection comes in the way of Tom George’s Miss Night Owl who is looking for her second season win, She started where she left off last season when winning at Stratford when beating the likes of 130 Graceful Legend by six lengths. She ran too poor to be true when tackling the OLBG.com Mares Hurdle at Wetherby early this month finishing second last.

If any consolation, Graceful Legend went on from that race to frank the form at Ascot last weekend when winning the Trisoft Mares Handicap with considerable ease off 127. The outrun winner was La Bague Au Roi who is turning into a smart hurdler when landing the Listed OLBG.com Mares Hurdle yesterday at Kempton off 140.

MISS NIGHT OWL : 3pt Win @ 7/4 (BOG)

15.05 Wetherby – British Stallion Studs EBF Mares Standard Open NH Flat Race (16f)

Fergal O’Brien’s bumper horses have been in solid form and their entry here Jennifer Juniper is the daughter of Kalanisi and will make her awaited debut this afternoon. She was a £30,000 purchase as was a useful p2p and on paper, the one to beat.

Oscar World represents Martin Keighley who has had the benefit of two runs around this sphere, she finished fourth on debut under rules when behind Herecomestheboom from the same stable of Fergal O’Brien. Harrisons Promise ran a good second on debut at Kelso, is surely to be on the premises if building on that run.

You can never overlook a sired Shirocco entry here and Charmayne who represents Stuart Edmunds is this afternoon’s selection. She was disappointing on debut at Warwick out paced three out and never looked like troubling the principles. She should show more experience this time around and at 20/1 could be value in the race.

CHARMAYNE : 1pt each way @ 20/1 (BOG)

Sports Personality of the Year 2017 - Betting Preview

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017 winner will be revealed on Sunday 17th December 2017, taking place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool and televised live on BBC.

Last year, Andy Murray won the award after a tremendous year in Tennis, winning Gold at the Olympics, winning Wimbledon for the second time and was ranked No. 1 in the World. Second place went to Triathlete Alistair Brownlee with third place going to Showjumper, Nick Skelton.

We take a look at some of the nominees for this year’s award and the betting odds for each sports personality:

Anthony Joshua (Boxing)

The 28 year old Watford-born Heavyweight champion has successfully defended his WBA and IBF Heavyweight titles this year with the main highlight being in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium when defeating Wladimir Klitschko in the eleventh round in May. In October, Joshua took on Carlos Takam in Cardiff at the Principality Stadium and was victorious via TKO.

This is Joshua’s first nomination and he is currently the favourite to become the Sports Personality of the Year.

Odds – 2/9

Lewis Hamilton (F1 Motor Racing)

Hamilton, 32, won his 4th World title at the Mexican Grand Prix in October making him Britain’s most successful driver, ahead of Jackie Stewart and is joint third in the all time title standings. Hamilton won the Sports Personality of the Year in 2014 and has been placed second on two occasions, 2007 and 2008.

Odds – 6/1

Chris Froome (Cycling)

Froome claimed a fourth Tour de France title and became the first Brit to win the Vuelta a Espana.  The 32 year old also won two bronze medalsat the World Championships in September.

Froome has not won the award before but has finished in 6th position in both 2013 and 2015.

Odds – 14/1

Mo Farah (Athletics)

Mo Farah had another good year as he claimed a third consecutive World 10,000 metre Gold medal in London back in August. He also gained a silver medal in the 5,000 metres, just missing out on a fifth major championships double. Farah was given a knighthood from the Queen in November.

Farah has not won the award before but has finished 3rd once and 4th three times.

Odds – 28/1

Harry Kane (Football)

The England striker bagged the Golden Boot award for top scorer in the Premier League for the second successive season with 29 goals for club, Tottenham Hotspur. Kane, 24, scored the all important goal to ensure England’s qualification into the World Cup 2018 against Slovenia. He was also the only English player to be nominated for the coveted Ballon d’Or prize.

This is Harry Kane’s first nomination for the award.

Odds – 33/1

Jonathan Rhea (Motor Cycling)

The 30 year old became the first rider to win three successive World Superbike titles, as well as breaking Colin Edwards’ 15 year record for the number of points scored in a season. The Northern Irishman also had 16 wins in 2017, taking his career wins to 54,  just 5 behind Carl Fogarty.

This is Rhea’s first nomination for the award.

Odds – 33/1

The rest of the contenders are Adam Peaty (Swimming) 100/1, Anya Shrubsole (Cricket) 150/1, Jonnie Peacock (Para-Athletics) 100/1, Bianca Walkden (Taekwondo) 200/1, Elise Christie (Speed Skating) 200/1 and Johanna Konta (Tennis) 200/1.

With Anthony Joshua a huge favourite at 2/9, there is no value for us punters. BET365 are offering betting without Anthony Joshua market and also to finish in the top 3 market.

Here are our picks from those markets:

Betting without Joshua – Mo Farah –  8/1

To finish in the Top 3 – Johanna Konta33/1

NOT to finish in the Top 3 – Lewis Hamilton7/4

Horse Racing Preview - Sedgefield - 28th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Sedgefield with two selections from the meeting.

13.20 Sedgefield – Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Handicap Chase (26.2f)

Camilla’s Wish (128)
Velvet Cognac (116)
Harry Hunt (110)

Graham McPherson’s Harry Hunt has made a pleasing start to this years campaign with a second at Fontwell which was soon rewarded when landing a 21.5f contest at Ayr. With only a 3lb penalty to deal with, he should be on the premises once more. One trainer in here who I feel is very under rated is Sam Drake who saddles the top weight here in Cabragh.

The second season chaser won over course and distance last December when off a 25lb lower mark, he also took a three mile contest at Bangor the following month off 105, penalised with a 9lb penalty he has still run creditably being placed on two occasions over three miles. The selection though comes in the way of the Micky Hammond trained Camilla’s Wish.

The ex irish chaser who represented the John Dreaper yard made her journey across the water and new surroundings over the summer. She won two hurdle races straight off the bat at Fakenham and Uttoxeter and made a pleasing addition back to chasing when recording her third win on the bounce at Cartmel over 25.5f. She returned to the chasing ranks when once more recording a win over the same trip at her local Cartmel course.

She returned after a few months off and competed over 29f here at Sedgefield in the Durham National finishing last. The ground I feel is the key for her, she definitely thrives more with soft to heavy under foot, the ground here could see her out once more, however she drops back in trip and I would like to think she will be on the premises under 7lb claiming jockey Becky Smith.

CAMILLA’S WISH : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

14.20 Sedgefield – Betfred Home Of ‘Goals Galore’ Chase (Novices Limited Handicap) (16.2f)

Derintother Yank (135)
Delegate (131)

Donald McCain’s six year old Derintother Yank should be landing this race in fairness, It only took two starts to record his first win over fences when landing a two mile contest around the Novice ranks at Carlisle when off a rating of 124. He did not disappoint when running Nuts Well within three parts of a length again at Carlisle when under a 7lb penalty. He has run just the once at Sedgefield as a hurdler when finishing second to 120 rated hurdler JustforJames.

He is not exposed around this sphere and in my opinion is the one they all have to beat uner Will Kennedy. There are always dangers and Delegate of Keith Dagliesh’s was seen last time pulling up over two and a half miles. Prior to that though he was seen winning over 17.5f on soft ground wen trained in Ireland by none other than Gordon Elliott. Now The Irish top trainer does not let horses go that easily and had a quiet a reasonable career at the yard winning three times as a hurdler and once as a chaser, makes new yard debut this afternoon.

DERINTOTHER YANK : 1.5pt Win @ 9/2 (BOG)
