West Ham United vs Chelsea - Match Preview

West Ham United vs Chelsea – Match Preview – The Premier League has graced us with a London Derby this weekend as West Ham host Chelsea. Two teams competing at the two different ends of the table yet three points is a must for both.

West Ham are currently 19th in the Premier League with 10 points from 15 matches. Having recently appointed David Moyes, things don’t seem to be looking up for the Hammers as many believe they are a real possibility for relegation at the end of the season. They invested heavily into their squad over the summer and it is yet to yield results as their recent form suggests. They have drawn two and lost four of their most recent six outings. Michail Antonio has been one of the only positive signs for Hammers fans this season so far and will be the main threat for them against this rigid and strong Chelsea defence.

Chelsea are currently third in the Premier League with 32 points from 15 games. Only the two Manchester sides sit above them however they will take some catching. After some shaky performances of late, Antonio Conte’s side seemed to have settled back into winning ways with their most recent Premier League outing seeing them overcome a tough Newcastle side, 3-1. Two goals from Eden Hazard and a goal from Alvaro Morata has only increased the profile of the two strikers who are in red hot form. The Belgian and Spaniard seem to bring the best out of each other and create a formidable attack that should be too much for the West Ham defence.

Bet365 – Correct Score – Chelsea to Win 3-1 – (link no longer available)

Chelsea have scored two or more goals away from home more than at Stamford Bridge. In 57% of their away games they have found the net at least twice. West Ham have been awarded an average of 5.5 corners every home match. Catching Chelsea out on the break could result in winning corners.

Anthony Taylor takes charge of the match at the London Stadium. Taylor has officiated nine Premier League matches this season and awarded an average of 37.8 booking points per game.

Man United vs Man City - Match Preview

Man United vs Man City – Match Preview – Christmas has come early in providing us the most eagerly anticipated game of the season, where bragging rights, pride and a crucial three points will be claimed in a table-topping Manchester Derby on Sunday. When Manchester United and Manchester City lock horns it is one of the biggest spectacles of any year, but this one has the feel of season-defining significance.

Pep Guardiola’s City have been utterly relentless and could look to almost put the title race to bed by besting old rival Jose Mourinho’s United and move a massive 11 points clear.

Despite not being at their usual swashbuckling best, City have been grinding out results in an almost Manchester United under Ferguson-esque manner of late. Whilst that may not satisfy the perfectionist in Guardiola, it is undoubtedly the mark of a Championship-winning side.

Hope for United could be provided by City’s record 20 match winning streak ending in midweek against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League – but City had already won the group whilst the Ukrainian’s were hungry for qualification of their own and a repeated display of such complacency is unlikely.

Manchester United have had a great season too; winning their Champions’ League group with a 2-1 victory against CKSA Moscow on Tuesday and have won 11 of their 15 league matches and lost just two. Unfortunately for United fans, City’s near perfect league record of dropping points just once all season (14 wins and one draw) has set the bar at unprecedented levels.

The anticipation building around the city and throughout the world for this game almost guarantees that Mourinho will be looking to provide a trademark masterclass against his old nemesis.

A performance of a similar ilk to the one against Arsenal in The Red Devils last league match will be required; United (and in particular David De Gea) soaking up large amounts of pressure whilst being clinical in attack on that occasion.
United will have to do it without their key man Paul Pogba, however, as the French international is suspended after receiving a straight red in that victory against Arsenal.

United will need to be solid at the back and take their chances in attack on Sunday Photo Credit: skysports.com

Passion is historically at the forefront of the Manchester derby, and even just in Premier League history there are a host of memorable incidents. From Roy Keane v Alf-Inge Haland, to Eric Cantona’s domination of the fixture, to City’s 6-1 demolition of United at Old Trafford, this fixture always produces.

Now both sides are managed by the world’s best, have the world’s biggest budgets and some of the world’s best players. Both sides are vying to be the best in the country and Europe once again this campaign. This should unquestionably result in us seeing one of the best and most intriguing matches of the season.

Stats

We really are going to witness the division’s two strongest sides do battle. Not only are City and United the two highest-scoring teams in the league, but both sides of Manchester have the best defences in Premier League too. No side can best the seven clean sheets earned by Guardiola’s men but in typical Mourinho fashion United lead our club clean sheet stats table with a fantastic return of nine clean sheets from 15 matches. In fact, United have kept a clean sheet in all but one (85%) of their seven home matches. So against City’s league-leading 46 goals, it will truly be the immovable object vs irrepressible force.

Always a heated affair, this match tends to have the referee earning his keep. Michael Oliver takes charge of the derby and he has averaged 3.7 cards a game in 13 matches, producing two red cards, averaging to just over 40 Booking points per game. Manchester City in general have kept the officials busy this season, coming in at fourth in our club card stats on account of having a league-high two red cards. Add that to 27 yellow cards and City get an average of 21.3 booking points per match.

Being two of, if not the two most dominant sides in the league you would expect both sides to have a high number of corners. This expectation is a reality, and no side has been awarded more corners than Manchester City’s 103 this year. United’s physicality always lends them to be a threat from set plays, and they come in sixth in our club corner stats table with 95.

Suggested Tips

  • Skybet Price Boost – Raheem Sterling to score and Manchester City to win in 90 mins – 9/2
  • Skybet Price Boost – Romelu Lukaku to score a header – 15/2

  • Skybet Both Players to Score – Anthony Martial and Sergio Aguero – 11/2

Norwich vs Sheffield Wednesday – Match Preview – Saturday night sees Sheffield Wednesday take a trip to Carrow Road as both sides look to make ground on the race for the play-offs.

Norwich come into this fixture without a win in seven league matches. Similar to Wednesday, Norwich have failed to meet expectations this season after falling short of reaching the play-offs last season. With the Canaries now 11 points behind sixth placed Derby County it would seem there wait for promotion will stretch to a third season. With a vast majority of the supporters growing restless with the current style of football on show, it will be interesting to see how long Daniel Farke lasts in the Norwich hot-seat.

Murphy has scored 7 goals this season for Norwich Photo Credit: skysports.com

Sheffield Wednesday come into this game unbeaten in their last seven games, but without a win in four. After two consecutive wins before the international break, the Owls have drawn four consecutive games, to leave them eight points behind the top six. Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Hull was an even more painful result, with Michael Dawson drawing Hull level in the 95th minute. Carlos Carvalhal was sent to the stands in that game after remonstrating with the officials for not awarding Wednesday a penalty with the score at 2-1.

The Owls problem this season has been consistency. After a fantastic 2-1 win at Villa Park they followed it up by dropping six points against three sides you would expect them to beat. Sluggish starts have been a common theme this season for Carvalhal’s men, which has drawn a lot of criticism from the Hillsborough faithful. Whilst I have no fears for Carvalhal losing his job before the season ends, if the Owls don’t make the play-offs, there will be serious doubts over his long-term future.

Hooper leads the scoring charts for Sheff Wed with 10 goals Photo Credit: skysports.com

Norwich have won just one of their last 12 games against Wednesday, with that victory coming back in 2015. In their last meeting, Wednesday dismantled the Canaries as they ran out 5-1 victors. The Owls last win at Carrow Road came back in 2009, with a solitude Jermain Johnson strike settling the tie.

In the league this season, only 35% of Norwich’s games have contained over 2.5 goals, making them the second lowest in the division. Wednesday similarly have only had 45% of their games have more than two goals this season. With those stats in mind, I think Saturday’s game will be cagey and hard fought. Whilst a draw wouldn’t do either team any favours I think that’s how this one may pan out.

Prediction: Norwich City 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

SKYBET: HOOPER TO SCORE FIRST AND WEDNESDAY TO WIN 2-1- 35/1

SKYBET: OLIVEIRA AND RHODES TO BOTH SCORES- 7/1

SKYBET: BTTS AND NORWICH TO WIN- 3/1

SKYBET: WEDNESDAY TO WIN TO NIL- 5/1

Sheffield United vs Bristol City - Match Preview

Sheffield United vs Bristol City – Match Preview – Considering it is December and now 20 games deep into the Championship season, the fact that this fixture pits third against fourth is remarkable.

Winners of League One last season, Sheffield United grasped their return to the second tier of English football with both hands and have made a blistering start to the campaign – winning 12 of their opening 17 games.

A slight blip in recent form for Chris Wilder’s team, (losing 5-4 at home to Fulham before drawing 1-1 with Birmingham City and losing to Millwall) still sees them in 4th place and just six points away from Cardiff City in 2nd – testament to their wonderful season.

Sharp and Clarke have scored a combined 21 league goals so far this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

Bristol City have been equally impressive, finishing in 17th last term and just three points away from the relegation zone, surpassing all expectations in reaching 3rd place at this stage in the year.

This is no accident according to Manager Lee Johnson, (who is the son of former manager Gary Johnson), who speaks openly of trying to achieve promotion – so the sights and standards have been set.

Bristol City come into this match after a stellar week where they dispatched two sides relegated from the Premier League last season, coming from 2-0 down to win against now manager-less Hull City 3-2 before beating Middlesbrough 2-1 at Ashton Gate.

Stats

Goals are to be expected in this one with an emphasis on both teams to score; City have scored 2+ goals in six of their 10 away games this year and 55% of all matches in total – coming second only behind the dominant Wolves in our club +2 goal stats table.  Sheffield United have also found scoring easy this year, scoring 2+ goals in nine of their 20 league games too.

Additionally, between the two sides there have only been 12 clean sheets (seven for Bristol City and five for Sheffield United) from a combined total of 40 Championship matches.
Pair that with the lethal strikers on show in the shape of dynamic duo Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke for The Blades and Bobby Reid for The Robins and we have quite the prospective attacking display.

Bobby Reid leads the scoring charts for Bristol City with 10 league goals Photo Credit: skysports.com

In summary, this match is a showcase for the wonderful unpredictability of the Championship. The division’s two biggest surprise packages will do battle with the aim of gaining more ground on the glorious goal of Premier League promotion. Something has got to give.

Expect corners in this one. In our club corner stats table, this match features the team that have been awarded the second highest number of corners in the division (Sheffield United, with 127 at an average of 6.3 per game) against Bristol City who’ve had the sixth most corner-kicks (109, at an average of 5.5 per match.

The excitement doesn’t just end with the chance of goals, as the referee is likely to be kept busy too. The Blades rank in fifth in our club card stats table, after being awarded 39 yellow cards and a red card so far this year. This gives Wilder’s side a heavy figure of 20.8 average booking points per game. Bristol City are marginally less active in the booking game, with similar stats of 35 yellows, one red and an average of 18.8 booking points per match. There is bound to be drama.

Suggested Tips

  • Skybet Price Boost – Leon Clarke to score a brace – 8/1
  • Skybet Both Players to Score – Billy Sharp and Bobby Reid – 11/2
  • Skybet RequestAbet Up to 10/1 – Sheffield Utd to score 2+ goals, 5+ Sheffield Utd corners and 20+ Bristol City booking pts – 3/1
  • Skybet RequestAbet Up to 10/1 – Clarke to score, Sheffield Utd to win, over 2.5 goals and 4+ corners each team – 10/1

Newcastle United vs Leicester City - Match Preview

Newcastle United vs Leicester City – Match Preview – Newcastle host Leicester City at St James’ Park looking for their first win in six Premier League matches.

After a poor run of results in November, Newcastle find themselves just five points above the relegation zone in 15th place. Rafa Benitez’s side have failed to win their two home games, losing 1-0 to Bournemouth and 3-0 to Watford. If Newcastle are to avoid an immediate return to the second tier of English football, they need to start picking up results at home once again.

After a run of one defeat in seven, the Toon Army have struggled. The major difference has been there sudden inability to keep clean sheets. They’ve conceded 14 goals in their last six games, averaging at just over 2.3 goals a game. Up front, they’re struggling as well, with just four goals coming in those six games.

Despite their poor form, Newcastle did take the lead at both Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge. When they faced Manchester United, they gave a good account of themselves and could’ve found themselves two goals ahead before Jose Mourinho’s side equalised. Midfielder Mikel Merino has been performing well but the absence of Captain Jamaal Lascelles has hit Newcastle and they haven’t looked the same at the back without him.

Merino has performed well for Benitez Photo Credit: skysports.com

Leicester City, in contrast, are in fine form. Since the appointment of Claude Puel, they have mustered 11 points from six games, which has catapulted them up the table. Now, unbeaten in three games, the confidence is back and we’re beginning to see glimpses of the side that were crowned Premier League champions only 18 months ago. The re-emergence of Riyad Mahrez has been key. Now operating in a number ten role, the Algerian is more involved in games and is producing key moments that are defining games. Similarly, Demari Gray’s inclusion in the side has had a positive effect, with the young Englishman finally showing his true potential at the King Power Stadium.

Mahrez and Vardy have performed well since Puel’s arrival Photo Credit: skysports.com

Newcastle have lost all of their last four meetings with Leicester without scoring a single goal. Before this run, they did, however, go nine games without losing against the Foxes, with their last win back in 2014. On Leicester’s last trip up to Tyneside, they beat Leicester 3-0 in that unforgettable title-winning campaign.

Leicester have scored two or more goals in 46% of their Premier League games this season. That ranks them up in seventh, with all of the big six clubs ahead of them. In contrast, Newcastle have only managed to score two or more four times, which gives them a 26% ratio. Given Leicester City’s good recent form and Newcastle’s leaky backline, I’m going to plump for an away win, with the Foxes to score twice.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Leicester

SKYBET: MAHREZ AND VARDY TO BOTH SCORE- 15/2

SKYBET: GAYLE TO SCORE FIRST AND NEWCATSLE TO WIN 1-0- 30/1

Champions League - Knockout Stage - Betting Preview

Champions League – Knockout Stage – Betting Preview – Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur all topped their groups with Chelsea just missing out on top spot, finishing 2nd. With 5 English teams all qualifying into the Round of 16, a great chance for an all English final could be on the cards at the NSK Olimpiyskyi Stadium, Kiev, Ukraine.

The draw will take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday, December 11.

As no English clubs can face one another in the next round, we take a look at the potential draw for the 4 English table topping clubs.

Manchester United

Utd had a fairly easy path through to the round of 16, scoring 12 goals and conceding just 3. One loss to Basel did not cause any problems and Utd will hope to continue their good form in both the league and Champions League into next year.

  • Real Madrid – 4/1
  • Juventus – 4/1
  • Sevilla – 4/1
  • Bayern Munich – 5/1
  • Shakhtar Donetsk – 5/1
  • FC Porto – 5/1

Liverpool

Liverpool scored the 2nd most goals in this years Champions League group stage, scoring 23 goals, with PSG ahead on 25 goals. Liverpool demolished sides in their group but came undone when they travelled to Sevilla and could not hold onto a 3-0 half time lead. Defensively looking vulnerable but that could change in the January transfer window, Liverpool always look a threat on the attack and will entertain regardless.

  • Real Madrid – 4/1
  • Juventus – 4/1
  • Basel – 9/2
  • Bayern Munich – 5/1
  • Shakhtar Donetsk – 9/2
  • FC Porto – 5/1

Manchester City

Man City look a real threat, not just in the Premier League but in the Champions League too. Scoring 14 goals and almost making it 6 wins from 6, if not losing to Shakhtar Donetsk in the last group game. The attack has been unstoppable, similarly to Liverpool. City are 2nd favourites to lift the trophy, behind PSG.

  • Real Madrid – 4/1
  • Juventus – 4/1
  • Basel – 5/1
  • Bayern Munich – 5/1
  • Sevilla – 4/1
  • FC Porto – 5/1

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham were in one of the hardest groups this year but had no problems topping the group with 16 points, the most in this year’s group stages. Drawing 1-1 to holders Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and then winning 3-1 at Wembley was probably the biggest highlight of those Spurs’ players. A great manager in Mauricio Pocchetino and with striker Harry Kane in good form, Spurs could surprise plenty of people.

  • Shakhtar –9/2
  • Juventus – 4/1
  • Basel – 4/1
  • Bayern Munich – 5/1
  • Sevilla – 4/1
  • FC Porto – 5/1

NFL - Gameweek 14 Preview

NFL – Gameweek 14 Preview – With division races heating up and playoff seeding being determined, here are my top week 14 predictions.

Eagles at Rams

My game of the week. Top seeded Eagles are coming off a loss against the Seahawks and will be looking to rebound, meanwhile a win for the Rams could put them in striking distance to be the top seed in the NFC. Both teams have explosive offenses, and both teams have aggressive defenses, I expect a highly competitive game. The Rams home crowd hasn’t been to their advantage all year, I expect this week to be different.

Rams to Win –  24 – 20

Goff: 285 YDS, 2 TDS

Gurley: 115 Total YDS, 1 Rushing TD

Skybet Handicap and Total Points – Los Angeles Rams -0.5 and Under 52.5 Total Match Points – 13/8

Vikings at Panthers

This is a potential playoff matchup with the division leading Vikings and the wild card spot for the Panthers. The Panthers are coming off a loss to the Saints and cannot afford another loss in the tight wild card race. The Vikings are comfortable in their division and are in striking distance to be the number 1 seed in the NFC. The Vikings top rated defense will be hard to score on, however I believe the Panthers defense can do a solid job against the Vikings offense. Another close game expected here. At home I have the Panthers winning late.

Panthers to Win –  24 – 17

Newton: 250 YDS, 2 TDS

McCaffery: 85 YDS Total, 1 Rushing TD

Skybet Match Result – Panther to Win – 5/4

Seahawks at Jaguars

Both teams are in dead heat playoff battles to get in, and each team cannot afford to lose. Seattle is coming off a big win against the Eagles. The Jags have been impressive this season, however will be entering unfamiliar territory in the upcoming weeks having to fight for playoff berth. MVP candidate QB Russell Wilson has put the Seahawks on his back the past few weeks. On the road on a cross country trip, I’m taking the experienced Seahawks in this one.

Seahawks to Win – 21 – 14

Wilson: 285 Total YDS, 2 TDS

Graham: 88 YDS, 1 TD

Baldwin: 100 YDS, 1 TD

Skybet Total Points – 35-38 Points – 5/1

Sunday Night: Ravens at Steelers

The historic AFC North rivals meet here with both teams on winning steaks and in the playoffs. The Steelers are ahead in the division and will be looking to keep pace with the Patriots as the number one seed in the AFC. Meanwhile the Ravens have a wild card spot and will be looking to maintain it. Both teams have aggressive defenses, and historically when these two meet it will be a physical game. Expect both teams to look for ball control. At home, that is advantage Pittsburg.

Steelers winning – 21 – 17

Roethlisberger: 250 YDS, 2 TDS

Bell: 125 YDS, 1 Rushing TD, 1 REC TD

Brown: 100 YDS, 1 TD

Skybet Handicap and Total Points – Pittsburgh Steelers -5.5 and Under 45.5 Total Match Points – 5/2

Christmas Specials 2017 - Betting Preview

Christmas is less than three weeks away and we await the UK No.1 single for Christmas which we will all find out on the 22nd December! We take a look at who could potentially be at the top from our top 5 picks! We also take a look at the betting odds on whether it shall snow this year on Christmas day…our guess is yes as it is already freezing! But the question is where in the UK?

Christmas No.1 2017

Ed Sheeran ft Beyonce – Perfect – 8/13

Two of the most popular and talked about artists have collaborated on a single which could easily get to No.1.

Big Shaq – Mans Not Hot –16/1

British comedian, actor and rapper,  ‘Big Shaq’ aka Michael Dapaah, has become an internet sensation since his online skits and his mockumentary, SWIL, had everyone in stitches. He made the track, ‘Mans Not Hot’, which has become an instant hit in the clubs with his catchy lyrics.

George Michael/Wham! – Last Christmas – 11/2

Wham! produced the biggest selling no. 2 of all time with this classic during the festive period. Everyone knows it and it has been used in multiple TV adverts. George Michael passed away on the 25th December 2016 and many believe that the fans would love to see this become no.1 as a fitting tribute to the great.

Choirs With Purpose – Stand Together – 12/1

Choirs With Purpose are a collaboration of 12 choirs from across the UK who are creating a crowd funded compilation album for Christmas, with the single, Stand Together the first from the album. The single is for good causes and this should do well in the charts.

Rak – Su (X Factor Winners) – 13/2

The Watford based quartet were awarded the X Factor winners after performing an original song and had the public giving them the vote over singer/songwriter, Grace Davis. The last time a contestant from X Factor was no.1 at Christmas was Ben Haenow in 2014 with his song ‘Something I Need’.

Betting for ‘Christmas No.1 2017’ closes on 19th December 2017.

A White Christmas?

The last widespread White Christmas was back in 2010 in the UK, which was also the coldest December for over 100 years. We also had snow in 2009 and technically in 2015, but it was not snow lying on the ground.

For it to be a White Christmas, one snow flake must be observed falling in the 24hrs of 25th December at a specified location.

Here are the odds for snow to fall on the 25th December in 8 of the largest cities in the UK.

Aberdeen – 13/8

Belfast – 7/2

Birmingham – 5/1

Cardiff – 5/1

Dublin – 5/1

Glasgow – 2/1

London – 5/1

Manchester – 4/1

Betting for ‘Snow on Christmas Day’ closes on 11th December 2017.

Arsenal vs BATE Borisov – Europa League Preview – Arsenal host BATE in their final group stage match in the UEFA Europa League at the Emirates Stadium this Thursday evening.

Arsenal are currently top of group H with ten points from their five matches. Whilst some of their performances haven’t been too promising, they have got the job done and assured they will qualify for the next round.

BATE haven’t fared as well as they are at the foot of the group with 5 points to their name. Their defence has been the main issue as they have struggled to keep their goalkeeper protected; having conceded 10 goals.

Arsene Wenger’s side have been a picture of inconsistency this season. After a 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield, their most recent outing saw them beaten by Manchester United, 3-1. Their star players such as Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette have often found themselves marked out of some matches and subsequently the Arsenal attack hasn’t prospered. They should however not find too many issues against this BATE side. Can they end their group stage in style?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Arsenal to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 2/1

Giroud has been in good form in the Europa League Photo Credit: skysports.com

BATE Borisov are currently top of the Belarusian Premier League with a whopping 68 points from 30 matches. Their most recent outing saw them grab a last gasp draw away to Gorodeja. A late brace from Vitali Rodionov with a 78th minute penalty and a 95th minute equaliser helped BATE remain top of the league despite plenty of pressure from Dinamo Minsk. Arsenal are a tough test for the Belarusian outfit, however they are very capable of causing an upset.

Skybet Match Result – BATE to Win – 11/2

Arsenal have scored 2 or more goals at home in 87% of their Premier League fixtures at the Emirates. They are clearly going to have the bulk of possession and it wouldn’t be suprising to see them find the back of the net.
The Gunners have also been awarded plenty of corners at home in the Premier League. Wenger’s side have been awarded an average of 7.6 corners per home match.
Arsenal have indeed made the Emirates Stadium a fortress. They have kept a clean sheet in 62% of their home matches, with some against some formidable attacks.
