Malta vs England - Match Preview

Malta vs England – Match Preview – Gareth Southgate’s men are back in action for a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Malta. The Three lions are yet to be beaten during the qualifying campaign, having won 4 of their six encounters thus far.

Travelling to Malta could spell trouble for England however, who have only won one of their three away fixtures so far in Group F. Malta are sitting rock bottom of the qualifying group though; yet to claim a point after six matches.

With only two goals to their name, the Maltese attack hasn’t had much effect to this date. The same could be said for the defence, who have conceded 15 goals; five coming from a battering to the feet from Scotland back in 2016. However, Malta took the field back in June of this year against the Ukraine in a friendly and came out victorious 1-0.

England shouldn’t face too many issues in their trip to Malta, however as always, the talking points have been around squad selection. Following Wayne Rooney’s retirement from international football, many will be looking to Harry Kane to create yet another legacy spearheading the English attack. Kane has only scored once so far in the qualifying campaign, however will be many peoples favourite to bag a goal this Friday.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – England to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 11/4

Skybet First Goalscorer – Harry Kane to score 1st – 2/1

As aforementioned, the likelihood of Malta challenging England on the score line is rather slim. If they were to pull off a victory, it would not only be possibly the biggest victory in their history but also would shine a very glum light onto Gareth Southgate at the throne of the England national team.

Skybet Match Result – Malta to Win – 40/1

The two nations have only ever met four times in their history, with England winning all four matches. The biggest score line was 5-0 to England back in 1971, could history repeat itself?

Skybet Correct Score – England to Win 5-0 – 13/2

Horse Racing Preview - Hereford - 29th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from two meetings, with selections from Sandown Park and Down Royal.

14.45 Sandown – British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (7f)

Two smart individuals in this race from yards that have tasted success this year with their juveniles. Roger Varian’s newcomer Sam Lord is apparently well thought of by the trainer and was well mentioned recently on twitter when supposing to make his well awaited debut last week, however he was pulled that day and comes here as one of interest.

However, I am with the very expensive purchase of Emaraaty who represents John Gosden. He is beautifully bred being by Dubawi and cost a snip at £2.6m guineas at the sales.

He is also well related being half brother to Izzy Top and Jazzy Top who were both very useful, he just gets the nod ahead of Sam Lord.

EMARAATY : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

15.20 Sandown – British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (D11) (7f)

John Gosden is again well represented here with another Dubawi colt in Graffiti Master. Another expensive purchase fetching just over £550,000 as a Yearling.

Being half brother to the smart Mount Nelson and full brother to Easy Victory there is expectations of a good show on debut.

Even though my selection will have much competition from a few in this, Owen Burrows could also have a smart colt on his hands in Zaajer who is well related to Convergence and smart juvenile miler Zaakhir. He could most definitely be the one to watch in the race under Jim Crowley.

Zaajer: 1pt each way @ SP (BOG)

19.40 Down Royal – Dale Farm Dromona Mares I.N.H Flat

Willie Mullins will no doubt have a strong favourite in this in True Self who looked very smart when landing his bumper at Galway by eight lengths.

However, the eye catching booking of JJ Code on Dawn Shadow could give her something to think about. Despite losing her form since landing a competitive bumper at Downpatrick this year, she deserves to go close here and looks value against the likely fav in True Self.

DAWN SHADOW : 2pt win @ SP (BOG)

Wales vs Austria - Match Preview

Wales vs Austria – Match Preview – Wales face Austria on Saturday in a huge match to determine who qualifies from Group D. With both sides on eight points after six games, one of these sides can take a huge stride towards Russia.

After such an unbelievable European Championships last summer, things haven’t gone quite as smoothly for Wales this year. The Welshmen have only one win so far in qualifying, and have drawn a number of games from winning positions. Although they remain unbeaten in those six games, five draws have left them four points adrift of the top two.

If Wales are to try and turn that deficit around, they need to turn draws in to wins. Out of those five draws, Wales scored first in four of them, meaning they have surrendered eight points from winning positions. Had they held those leads, they’d be already booking their hotels for next summer’s World Cup.

Austria come in to this game in decent form, having not lost a game this calendar year. After starting off their qualifying campaign with a win and a draw, they then stuttered with damaging defeats to Serbia and the Republic of Ireland. Since then, a win against Moldova and an away draw against the Irish has put them back in contention, but like Wales, they can’t afford anymore slip ups.

Can Gareth Bale fire Wales to the World Cup? Photo Credit: skysports.com

With players such as Marko Arnautovic, David Alaba and Martin Harnik they are more than capable pf posing a threat. They do however lack a superstar, such as Gareth Bale. Wales will be praying the Real Madrid superstar can recapture his form from last summer and win them the game.

With both sides playing catch up, nothing other than a win will do for either side, which should make an enthralling, open game. When these two met last year in the reverse fixture, they served up four goal in a pulsating 2-2 draw. Meetings between the two teams have been scarce in recent years, with them only meeting twice in the last ten years. Wales record isn’t particularly great however, having not beaten Austria in a competitive game, since 1975.

In Wales’ six game so far in qualifying, their games have amounted in 14 goals. Compare this to Austria, who also have totalled 17 match goals. With both sides knowing any loss of points would signal the end of their World Cup hopes, I think both teams to score is a safe bet.

Prediction: Wales 2-1 Austria

SKYBET: WALES TO WIN 2-1- 8/1

SKYBET: GARETH BALE AND MARC JANKO BOTH TO SCORE- 5/1

SKYBET: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE IN BOTH HALVES- 25/1

SKYBET: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE AND OVER 2.5 GOALS- 7/4

SKYBET: WALES TO WIN FROM BEHIND- 14/1

SKYBET: RAMSEY TO SCORE FIRST AND 1-1 DRAW- 33/1

France vs Netherlands - Match Preview

France vs Netherlands – Match Preview – The international break is upon us as two of global football’s goliath’s face off in an incredibly competitive Group A World Cup Qualifying match.

Both Didier Deschamps’ France and Dick Advocaat’s Netherlands are currently trailing behind surprise table-toppers Sweden, in 2nd and 3rd respectively. France are just missing out on top spot on goal difference while The Oranje are a further three points behind.

The Dutch have had a tumultuous time since their 3rd place finish at the 2014 World Cup, coming 4th in their Euro 2016 qualifying group and missing out on qualification for a major tournament for the first time since the 2002 World Cup.

Losing to Bulgaria 2-0 in March saw Danny Blind, father of Daley, lose his position as coach as the two-time World Cup runners-up desperately seek a return to consistent form. There is a lot of work to be done to achieve that feat and emerge from this group with a place at the 2018 World Cup, however.

It is a somewhat different story for France, falling just short at home in the Euro 2016 final to Portugal, it hasn’t dispelled the optimism surrounding Les Blues – with an extremely talented side in terms of quality and depth Deschamps’ side are among the favourites to dominate world football in the coming years.

Navigating a tricky group is the first problem, as a draw with Belarus and a defeat to Sweden have proven. Dispatching the Netherlands will re-establish the French as firm favourites to qualify from Group A as group winners, though.

This match would normally need no build up anyway but victory for either side could be crucial to how their respective eras could be defined – France with so many potential world beaters (such as Mbappe, Dembele, Lemar, Pogba etc) and Netherlands with many coming to an end, perhaps another story could be written.

With just four games left and a seemingly ruthless Sweden it is likely one of these huge footballing countries will miss out – and it could depend on this very game.

Team News
Though Anthony Martial, Karim Benzema and Ousmane Dembele would easily get in most squads, the have been left out of the squad – illustrating the incredible strength in depth Deschamps has at his disposal. Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane also misses out through injury.

Dick Advocaat has serious concerns defensively, missing the talents of Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Ake, Daryl Janmaat and Jeffrey Bruma. So perhaps hopes will rest on the team’s offence, and maybe on all-time record goal-scorer Robin van Persie’s shoulders as he is welcomed back into the squad.

Antoine Griezmann can lead France to the World Cup Photo Credit: skysports.com

Player to Watch
Antoine Griezmann has cemented himself in the current upper echelons of world football with several exceptional seasons for Atletico Madrid and a fantastic Euro 2016 which saw him named as the tournament’s top scorer and its best player. The diminutive forward has scored 100 goals and assisted a further 33 in just 253 La Liga matches and is a pertinent threat from anywhere on the pitch. Pace, dribbling ability, lethal finishing, fantastic movement – you know it, the 26-year-old has got it. Griezmann will be an integral reason should France want to better their performance in Euro 2016 and create more glory days like those of the World Cup 1998 and Euro 2000.

Liverpool vs Arsenal - Match Preview

Liverpool vs Arsenal – Match Preview – Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will host Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal this Sunday at 4pm following their recent Champions League success. Liverpool have just beaten 1899 Hoffenheim over two legs to secure their place in the Champions League group stage; becoming the fifth team from the Premier League to qualify.

Arsenal will have some avenging to do after their poor showing away to Stoke in their most recent Premier League outing.

Both clubs are currently amidst well publicised transfer sagas, with the departures of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool and Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal still in the balance. Sanchez is available for selection however it is very unlikely Coutinho will feature.

Mane has ben pivotal for Liverpool and must be if Coutinho decides to leave Photo Credit: skysports.com

The Liverpool attack has shown no signs of weakness without their star Brazilian with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and new-boy Mo Salah all stepping up to the mark. These three will be crucial when facing the sometimes ropey Arsenal back-line. Could we have a goal-fest on our hands?

Skybet Both Players to Score – Sadio Mane and Mo Salah both to Score – 13/2

Alexandre Lacazette didn’t take long to introduce himself to the Premier League on the opening day with a goal, 90 seconds to be exact. He will require quality service from his fellow attackers such as Mesut Ozil. The Frenchman has a lot of promise and looks to be a good signing for the Gunners.

Skybet To score and Win – Alexandre Lacazette to Score and Arsenal to Win – 4/1

Jurgen Klopp will be looking to his defence to illustrate more stability than their previous fixtures where they have conceded far too easily. With the arrival of new defenders still to be questioned, the manager has stayed loyal to his defence despite fans starting to lose patience. Can they tighten up at the back and not allow Lacazette the space he needs?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Liverpool to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 11/2

Kolasinac has settled in well at Arsenal Photo Credit: skysports.com

Arsenal fans will be hoping that in games like this, they can compete better than last season. The club will be hoping that long serving manager Arsene Wenger can lead them back into the top four. New signing Sead Kolasinac seems to have settled in quickly at the Emirates; which is good news as Arsenal have had a large list of unavailable players. With Liverpool fresh from their Champions League match, possible fatigue could favour Arsenal’s chances. Can Arsenal gain some confidence back after the painful 1-0 loss to Stoke?

Horse Racing Preview - Ripon & Epsom - 28th August 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Ripon and Epson, with the Listed Two Year Old Trophy from Ripon the highlight on the card.

15.20 Ripon – Billy Nevett Memorial Handicap (6f) (0-80)

Iain Jardine’s string cannot be in better form, to be honest their whole season has been an upward curve and now they have taken on a new horse into the yard in Sfumato. He is usually a horse that takes a few seasonal runs to come to hand, and after his recent third at Bath in this company he looks to be now coming in to his part of the season, it does help that the fact that Case Key from the Bath race has franked the form recently and David Alan has won this race a fw times over the years.

Main dangers looks to come from Kevin Ryan’s Lanjano, finished third around this time last year at Redcar when just outgunned in the closing stages in this grade, Kevin Stott knows the horse well enough and could give the selection most to do, however as this is a new learning curve for Iain Jardine with Sfumato I will go a conservative each way.

SFUMATO : 2pts each way @ SP (BOG)

16.20 Epsom – Poundland Family Favourite Conditions Stakes (10.1f)

To be fair despite the field having had success at higher levels this race does look to have a complete set of exposed entries. Sir Michael Stoute’s Midterm has just lost the love of the game and will drop back to 10f for the first time since finishing a long way back in the Champions Stakes at Ascot in October. His only win at the index came on good to soft ground, and with the weather not really coming into his favour he could be found wanting again.

I have tipped up Mount Logan on two occasions now and twice he has been beaten, for me he really should have won the Lancaster Stakes at Haydock to be run out of it in the dying strides by Frankuus, however this is a big drop in class to what he has been running up against and with being the least exposed in the race I have to give him one more chance. Ayrad has gone the same way as Midterm this year, and I just could not back him with confidence.

MOUNT LOGAN : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

16.30 Ripon – Longlines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy (Listed) (6f)

Regulator of Richard Fahey’s was a beaten favourite in a Conditions race at Chester, however the ground looked tacky that day and coming back on quicker ground I actually feel he is the value bet of the race.

However, the improving Lake Volta who is a typical on the front end Mark Johnston horse, led all the way over course and distance last time and the opinion of the paper was that he should be encountering higher company in due course, Franny Norton takes the ride again and course form especially at Ripon is priceless.

LAKE VOLTA : 3pt Win @ SP (BOG)
