Horse Racing Preview - Aintree - 29th October 2017

Today’s horse racing preview has three selections coming from Aintree (Old Roan Chase) and Wincanton.

15.00 Aintree -188bet Monet’s Garden Old Roan (Limited Handicap) Chase (Grade 2) (19.9f)

THIRD INTENTION (165)
TRAFFIC FLUIDE (160)
GODS OWN (158)

Last years winner Third Intention returns to attempt to become only the second horse to land this race since Monet’s Garden who claimed this race three times. Since landing this race last year when beating God’s Own by one and three quarter lengths he has lost his way a bit, God’s Own had to concede 16lb to the selection that day and will have to do so again.

Third Intention has failed to hit the frame on seven other attempts, however he has always been around his current mark of 150 and once more returns with a big chance of claiming the prize once more under Aidan Coleman for the second time.

Gary Moore has kicked started his season in good style and saddles Traffic Fluide who was unlucky not to land Grade 2 Oaksey Chase at Sandown on his last start last season when off a mark of 156, he had Third Intention beaten that day to over twenty four lengths when in receipt of 6lb, he has to give the selection 6lb this time, a 12lb turnaround at the weights which should be enough to reverse that form. Gods Own ran an amazing race last year when giving weight to over a stone to the winner, he will have to do so again and looks a hard task to reverse that form.

THIRD INTENTION : 1pt each way @ 11/1 (BOG)

15.35 Aintree – Read Noel Fehily At 188Bet,co.uk Interactive Chase (Novices Handicap Chase) (24.9f)

MATORICO (131)
SOME ARE LUCKY (131)
SOME KINDA LAMA (129)

This is a really tight one to call, with the tentative vote going to Jonjo O’Neill’s Matorico who is only having his third chase start. He steps back up in trip significantly this afternoon to three miles plus, he had a reasonable level of form over hurdles with a place run over 25.5f when off a mark of 133, he comes here 2lb lower than his hurdling mark and I would expect a bold show under Coleman.

Some Are Lucky has a lot of potential and returned to the chase circuit when finishing a close second to Sam Red of Harry Skelton’s at Stratford twenty six days ago, the problem I have with him is the fact he travels well throughout his races, but tends to find one to good and throws in the towel far to easily for me.

Last but not least, Some Kinda Lama who gets the services of Jamie Moore, His chase debut came at Worcester when beaten twenty six lengths to Ballymalin, he never really recovered when hampered a long way from home. He gets a drop of 4lb back to his hurdling mark this afternoon and considering he has form over the trip when over hurdles he can not be discounted.

MATORICO : 1pt each way @ 14/1 (BOG)

14.10 Wincanton – BT Novices Handicap Chase (20.2f)

FAVORITO BUCKS (132)
FARM THE ROCK (126)
GOLD MOUNTAIN (119)

Paul Nicholl’s Favorito Bucks looks well in here on what I have worked out, he posted a mark of 132 when not staying the three miles at Kempton, even though there was only the five runners, all three adversaries are more than likely to progress to marks of over 140 this coming season. He has competed over course and distance when pulling up, but again, that was a far better race than this. His current mark of 122 he should be running a big race if handling the softer conditions.

Farm the Rock is also looking well handicapped, Katy Price’s six year old finished twenty five lengths behind Sceau Royal on chase debut at Warwick over two miles. Sceau Royal now runs off a mark of 154 and was unlucky not to win at the weekend when just out battled by the very talented North Hill Harvey in the a competitive race at Cheltenham, Farm the Rock gets 6lb from the selection, but Benjamin Poste wont be able to claim.

Alexandra Dunn is a trainer I like to follow around these poor contests, slapped with a 10lb penalty when burying his rivals at Taunton by twelve lengths, I thought was harsh, he was beating that day the once thought of Golanova who’s career this year has been a bit better in his fourth season as a chaser, however he has a lot to find with a few here in my opinion.

FAVORITO BUCKS : 1pt each way @ 13/2 (BOG)

Hull vs Nottingham Forest - Match Preview

Hull vs Nottingham Forest – Match Preview – Hull City host Nottingham Forest in the Skybet Championship this weekend.

Hull currently sit in 14th place, just six points off the play-off places. A crucial 1-0 away win at Barnsley last time out will have raised those promotion hopes, with Hull now unbeaten in their last three games. At home, Hull need to improve. Leonid Slutsky’s team have won only three of their home games this season and if they want to push for the play-off places, they need to be stronger at the KCOM Stadium.

Grosicki has scored three goals so far this season for Hull Photo Credit: skysports.com

Away from home, Hull have improved recently. Only a last-minute equaliser denied them all three points at Norwich before they won at Oakwell last time out. In that game, Fraizer Campbell grabbed the all-important goal, with the former Crystal Palace striker now finding his feet back in Hull colours.

Hull’s main issue this season has been keeping the ball out of their own net. The Tigers have conceded 20 league goals in just 13 games, with only five clubs conceding more. With experienced players like Alan McGregor and Michael Dawson, they should be performing better and they’ll need more consistency if they’re to push for the top six.

Forest travel to Yorkshire just four points behind sixth-placed Norwich. After a disappointing loss against rivals Derby, Mark Warburton’s men responded with a 2-0 win against Burton last game. That win gave them back to back home wins, a feat they hadn’t achieved yet this season. Forest have lost four of their last six games and need to try to learn how to get results on the road if they’re to hope of gaining a top-six berth.

Murphy can cause problems to the Hull defence Photo Credit: skysports.com

Like Hull, Forest’s main problem is conceding goals. They’ve conceded one more than their hosts and have won just two away games all season. On the road they’ve leaked 12 goals in just six games, averaging two goals a match.

Hull have lost only one of their last eight meetings against Forest. The Tigers haven’t lost at home to Forest since 2013 when a late Lewis McGugan strike was the difference. In those last eight games, these two clubs have served up 14 goals. Given the defensive frailties in both teams, I suspect we’ll see a few come Saturday.

Prediction: Hull 2-1 Nottingham Forest

SKYBET: HULL TO WIN 2-1- 17/2

SKYBET: BARRIE MACKAY TO SCORE FIRST AND 1-1 DRAW- 50/1

SKYBET: MURPHY AND CAMPBELL TO BOTH SCORE- 6/1

SKYBET: CORRECT GROUP SCORE HULL TO WIN 1-0, 2-0 OR 2-1- 21/10

SKYBET: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE IN BOTH HALVES- 14/1

SKYBET: BTTS AND FOREST TO WIN- 5/1

Horse Racing Preview - Doncaster - 27th October 2017

Today’s horse racing preview has two selections coming from Doncaster.

16.10 Doncaster – Free Bets At 188Bet Casino Handicap (14.7f)

Zaidiyn (91)
Golden Birthday (84)

Golden Birthday comes here looking to keep his 100% record and make it 3-3, Harry Fry’s six year old has impressed diverting from the National hunt to the flat scene with both wins coming under today’s pilot Fran Berry. However, I had a feeling that his win last time out was impressive, but he did not look the same as his first win and the handicapper has slapped only 5lb on him for a six length win which to be fair was far to lenient.

I have him currently rated 84, the handicapper at 83 so there is not much more room there and is coming slightly back to the handicap system, but surely to go well again. Zaidiyn for me is definitely not a 25/1 shot in the tissue price market and is only big as 5/1. Trained by Brian Ellison and ran in top races in Ireland such as the Irish Cesarewitch, his best flat run came on the all weather when posting a rating of 99, so coming here off just a mark of 80 he does deserve to be in the mix.

I am going to take a chance on Zaidiyn purely off the back that he has a similar profile to the likely favourite here and returns to the level for the first time since winning back in 2015. Golden Birthday has to be very much respected, but there does not look much more that the handicapper can give him to stop his progression.

ZAIDIYN : 1pt each way @ SP (BOG)

16.45 Doncaster – ROA/Racing Post Owners Jackpot Handicap (10.2f)

Pouvoir Magique (89)
Ajman King (86)
Gleny’s The Manace (85)

Two big yards here hold the two top spots in the rating’s, Roger Varian’s Ajman King comes here off the back of a win at Epsom when taking a 10f event, that form was recently boosted when Wine List claimed his maiden at Kempton for Andrew Balding. Off a mark of 85 he should be thereabouts once more under his pilot Atzeni.

Gleny’s The Menace has struggled since landing a class 3 at Ascot, the 3lb rise has looked to have stopped him in his tracks and with only a 1lb drop he could still be looking for a place at best. On to the selection in John Gosden’s Pouviour Macique.

He never seemed to get the 12f last time out dropping away tamely in a four runner affair. Drops back to 10f this afternoon and will not be a 1/12 shot as he was when winning at Ayr. There looks more to come from him at this level I think, yard have hit a bit of form once more after taking two good maidens at Newmarket yesterday.

POUVOIR MAGIQUE : 1pt each way @ SP (BOG)

Tottenham vs West Ham - Match Preview

Tottenham vs West Ham – Match Preview – Tottenham host a struggling West Ham in the Carabao Cup this Wednesday.

The hosts have enjoyed some delightful form as of late, most recently dispatching of Liverpool 4-1 this weekend in the Premier League. The visitors haven’t enjoyed such fortune however, with their previous outing seeing them lose 3-0 at home to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Whilst West Ham manager Slaven Bilic’s future remains in the balance, many Hammers fans will be hoping their side can form something of a cup run to take the concentration away from their Premier League woes.

Tottenham were unconvincing in their last round match in the Carabao Cup at home to Barnsley. A goal from Dele Alli was enough for Mauricio Pochettino to wipe away the sweat and see his side in the hat for the next round. West Ham found their previous round much more comfortable beating a Bolton side 3-0 at home.

Kane and Son will prove to be difficult for the West Ham defence Photo Credit: skysports.com

Harry Kane has been hitting back at his ‘two season wonder’ critics with goals aplenty in the Premier League. Many believe he is the most dangerous striker in the world at the moment, so good luck to the West Ham defence if he starts. The same faces are continuing to prosper in the Spurs squad and they are turning from strength to strength every time they step onto the field. Their possession-based style of play is proving tough for some of Europe’s best sides to deal with and could have West Ham running around like headless chickens. Can Spurs reach the next round?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Tottenham to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 7/2

West Ham are close to hitting a crisis era, with nothing seeming to go their way. Their new signings haven’t fitted in at all and some are already looking at leaving, their managers tactics don’t seem to be working and their fans are becoming more frustrated by the minute. The London based club have won one of their last four matches; a 1-0 home win over Premier League strugglers Swansea. It was only a few weeks ago that West Ham took on Spurs in the Premier League and they won’t be hoping for a repeat of last time.

Arnautovic must improve for West Ham Photo Credit: skysports.com

New signing Javier Hernandez has shown glimpses of his talents but is yet to wow the West Ham fans. He could be a key figure if he features for the Hammers, as well as winger Marko Arnautovic. Their sheer pace and power on the counter could cause Spurs issues if they’re having problems finding the back of the net like in their last round match. Can the Hammers shock Spurs?

Skybet Match Result – West Ham to Win – 5/1

WC Qualifiers - Portugal vs Switzerland - Match Preview

Portugal vs Switzerland – Match Preview – Group B reaches its nail-biting climax as leaders Switzerland travel to European Champions Portugal in a winner takes all clash in the race for Russia 2018.

This game is the definition of all to play for, La Nati have won every single one of their matches so far – including a 2-0 victory over Portugal in the reverse fixture – and lead the Selecao by three points entering the final matchday, albeit with a worse goal difference.

The permutations are as follows; a draw will see Vladimir Petkovic’s side qualify automatically as Group winners and Portugal into the play-offs.

However, a win for Portugal will see Cristiano Ronaldo and co into the 2018 World Cup and Switzerland fall into the play-offs instead, bizarrely despite winning nine of their ten games.

The only time Portugal have faltered in this qualification campaign has been the opening game against Switzerland, not many expected the Swiss to maintain their perfect form throughout but they have given themselves every opportunity to see the job through here.

It would be somewhat disconcerting for the reigning European Champions to fail to automatically qualify from their group, but Fernando Santos’s team have been convincing too. They outclassed both Faroe Islands and Andorra 6-0 and beating the other strongest opponents Hungary 3-0 and 1-0 with relative ease – and Portugal will strongly fancy their chances of breaking Switzerland hearts at the intimidating Estadio da Luz.

Team News
The main man Cristiano Ronaldo started the previous game against Andorra on the bench, despite coming on to make a huge impact and score when needed, to preserve his energy specifically for this crucial fixture – so is almost guaranteed to return to the starting line-up.
Santos will be without left-sided players Fabio Coentrao and Dortmund’s Raphael Guerriro.

Switzerland are facing this crunch tie without midfielders Edimilson Ferandes and the key Gelson Fernandes due to injury.

Shaqiri has the ability to win the game single handedly Photo Credit: skysports.com

Player to Watch
Whilst most will be expecting Portugal to take the initiative and attack Switzerland in search of the win they so desperately need, they will have to be wary of the threat facing their defence, and in particular from Xherdan Shaqiri. Plying his trade for Stoke City, British football fans know how dangerous the winger can be, possessing the ability to create a moment of magic from nothingness – precisely the type of unpredictable quality that could be the difference on a night like this. The ex-Bayern Munich and Inter Milan man has a wand of a left-foot, sparking a threat from anywhere within 30 yards or from free-kicks there may be a specific plan in place to nullify his threat. Hopefully a Shaqiri on the top of his game turns out in, for a 25-year-old extremely impressively, his 65th cap – hoping to add to his already stellar tally of 20 international goals.

Horse Racing Preview - Salisbury - 4th October 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Salisbury with two selections from the meeting.

14.30 Salisbury – Become A Wiltshire Freemason EBF Novices Stakes (6.9f)

There are a few interesting newcomers in this race non other than Roger Varian’s Jamil. The fact that they have waited until the back end of the season to bring him on to a race course considering he is a late March juvenile is interesting, as most March juveniles would have competed at Royal Ascot or even Goodwood.

The son of Dansili won’t mind any rain or softening ground here at Salisbury today,  as the sire won his only run as a juvenile on heavy ground over today’s index, so you have to feel the genes have been passed down.

Richard Hannon’s yard have picked up in recent weeks, the yard send three contenders here who for me all have to step up on what they have shown so far. You can never pinpoint looking at a horse from this yard on jockey bookings, Hollie Doyle has done herself proud this season, as has Sean Levey, but with Pat Dobbs booked to ride Roundhead you would have thought this was the one they would be more interested in improving off the back of his first run.

Seventh on debut at Ascot when behind Fajjaj of Hugo Palmer’s, who recently showed improvement when finishing fourth to the smart Elarqam in the Somerville Stakes, the runner up Court of Justice heads straight to this years juvenile Group 1 Racing Post Trophy this month, so you would expect this son of Helmet to improve quickly. Tullyallan finished fourth on debut at Newmarket when behind a smart looking individual in Shabaaby of Owen Burrrows, apart from the winner the opposition looked mediocre and could flattened his run behind simple types.

City Gent and newcomer Consultant deserve recognition, the latter represents a yard who’s younger generation are running very well. Consultant comes from a sprinting back-ground pedigree being the son of Kodiac, however the dam did win over 10f on her debut run which came on quicker ground, 8f maybe a little ambitious on debut on this type of ground. City Gent equipped himself well on debut when running sixth at Yarmouth.

The winner Imperial Past has a Listed entry at Doncaster this week, and the fifth Tamkeen is booked to run in a few days at Redcar. This has attracted some nice well bred individuals, and I have just given the nod to Roger Varian’s Jamil, with Roundhead and City Gent to chase him home, I would not be surprised to see Consultant run well also on debut.

JAMIL : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

15.05 Salisbury – Bathwick Tyres Conditions Stakes (6f)

I would like to think Richard Hannon’s Algam can reverse the form here at Salisbury with The Children’s Trust from their Goodwood encounter which saw the latter win at 100/1. I thought Frankie Dettori gave him a schooling ride to be fair, never put the horse in the race, eased down, with Frankie not having to work again after his Arc triumph on Enable last weekend, Sean Levey gets the recall, the jockey is the only one that has ridden and got a tune out of him when guiding the selection to success at Leicester back in August.

To be fair the Leicester maiden is looking interesting considering the second and third have both competed in better company at Newmarket and Newbury of late when behind potentially pattern horses. Algam looked to have bumped into a nice sort again at Chelmsford in Charlie Appleby’s Old Persian who’s declared this week at Newmarket.

David Evans won this last year with Smokey Lane, this year they have teamed up with Jim Crowley to ride their entry here Mr Top Hat. I thought his run at Newbury was below average when behind Richard Hannon’s debutant Orange Suit. He was beaten on debut on soft ground and on what he showed there I am not convinced these conditions are favourable.

Ralph Beckett’s Nine Below Zero gets the aids of the visor for the first time, since his two wins he was put into the deep end when competing the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Ascot to be dropped in class and finish a poor second last in a class 3 Nursery. He is another that the jury is out if he can handle the heavy conditions, if so his resume would put him in the mix. However, Algam should be coming out of this with a win, with possible Nine Below Zero the main danger.

ALGAM : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea - Champions League Preview

Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea – Champions League Preview – Chelsea face their toughest test of the season on Wednesday, as they take a trip to the Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico will be hoping for their first win of the Group Stages, to draw level on points with Antonio Conte’s side.

Having romped home to a 6-0 victory against Qarabag last time out, Chelsea couldn’t be facing more contrasting opponents. Atletico have reached three of the last four semi-finals in the Champions League, including two finals. There are few harder tasks than a trip away to Diego Simeone’s men, and Chelsea will have to be at their very best to get a result.

Chelsea fans will be hoping to see Eden Hazard start. The Belgian was only on the bench during their 4-0 win against Stoke, despite starting in midweek against Nottingham Forest. As Hazard builds up his match sharpness, fans will have to remain patient, but it won’t be long before their number ten is back in the starting eleven. If they are to get a positive result from a trip to one of Europe’s elite, they’ll need him fit and firing.

Morata has hit the ground running for Chelsea Photo Credit: skysports.com

Alvaro Morata will be hoping to impress on his first return to Spain since leaving Real Madrid in the summer. The Spaniard has six goals this season already, and bagged a hattrick at the weekend at the Bet365 Stadium. Filling the shoes of Diego Costa was a task that very few would have envied, but if his early season form is anything to go by, Morata is managing the task just fine.

Griezmann has been in good form for Atletico Photo Credit: skysports.com

In La Liga, Atletico have got off to a good start. They currently sit second in the table, with four wins and two draws from their opening six matches. Having won their last three games, Simeone’s men are gathering momentum, and that’s largely thanks to star man Antione Griezmann. The French striker has two goals in his last three games, and has started the season in his usual majestic form. Since returning from suspension after his opening day red card, Griezmann has been influential in Atletico’s serge up the table, if not scoring, then assisting for team mates.

The last time these two sides met was the semi-final of this competition in 2014. Atletico won 3-1 at Stamford Bridge to take them through to the final, where they would be later defeated 4-1 by Real. Having met only five times in Europe, Chelsea have only won once, back in 2009. Since then, two draws have been sandwiched in between Atletico victories, giving them a good record ahead of this game.

I think this will be a very tight game, with both sides renowned for their defensive prowess. With Conte going away from home, I think he will set up to try and snatch a point, and it’ll be down to Atletico to break Chelsea down. As a result, I’m going for a score draw, but don’t be surprised if this one finishes goalless.

Prediction: Atletico 1-1 Chelsea

SKYBET: 1-1 DRAW- 9/2

SKYBET: MORATA AND GRIEZMANN TO BOTH SCORE- 8/1

SKYBET: CARRASCO TO SCORE FIRST AND ATLETICO TO WIN 1-0- 35/1

SKYBET: DRAW AND UNDER 2.5 MATCH GOALS- 9/4

SKYBET: ATLETICO TO WIN TO NIL- 21/10

SKYBET: TORRES TO SCORE AND FT DRAW- 12/1

CSKA Moscow vs Man United - Champions League Preview

CSKA Moscow vs Man United – Champions League Preview – Midweek Champions League action continues as Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United travel to Moscow to face CSKA Moscow in Group A.

Both sides were victorious in their group stage curtain raisers with the hosts seeing off Benfica 2-1 and Manchester United dispatching of Basel, 3-0.

Wednesdays hosts are currently fourth in the Russian Premier League, a position they will be hoping to improve as the season continues. Their most recent outing saw them draw with city rivals Dynamo Moscow 0-0 in a match that they were expected to win. CSKA play in a 3-5-2 quite often which could counter United’s familiar 4-2-3-1 to see an overload in the midfield if United do not stay compact. The three defenders will be looking to keep Romelu Lukaku quiet, who has enjoyed a fruitful beginning to his career at Old Trafford.

Brazilian striker Vitinho has proved to be a handful for defences in the Russian Premier League thus far. The striker has three goals so far domestically and scored the equaliser in their first Champions League match against Benfica from the spot. Moscow are a very organised outfit that will not only be tough to break down, but are capable of causing havoc to the United defence with two strikers.

Skybet Match Result – CSKA Moscow to Win – 9/2

United will look to keep up their good form in all competitions Photo Credit: skysports.com

Manchester United will be looking to make it six points from two matches in their travels to Russia. The Premier League leaders have shown real intent so far, both domestically and in Europe, that they are back from their dip in form of the recent seasons. New arrivals have all fit in rather well with Jose Mourinho’s tactics. In their most recent match, United narrowly beat Southampton, 1-0, in a performance they will be quick to put behind them.

However, the sign of a good team is one that can win even when they don’t play well. They will be hoping the pace in their attack will be too much for the CSKA defence to handle with Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Henrik Mhkitaryan and Paul Pogba in their armoury just to name a few. Undefeated in their last eight matches, they are proving almost impossible to get past right now and are favourites for this match up.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Manchester United to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 6/4

West Ham United vs Tottenham Hotspur - Match Preview

West Ham United vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview – West Ham host fellow London club Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium this Saturday in the Premier League.

Both sides haven’t had their dream start to proceedings domestically since the start of the season with the hosts only starting to show mild signs that their squad, that is capable of performing to a high level, actually can.

Tottenham have enjoyed a great start to their campaign in the UEFA Champions League, however they are continuing to have hiccups in the Premier League. Their most recent outing saw them draw to last season’s relegation fighters Swansea City.
The game could prove to be low scoring as both sides have had bore draws in their most recent matches. With both defences proving to be tight and organised, could it see a low scoring affair?

Skybet BTTS and Under/Over 2.5 Goals – BTTS and Under 2.5 Goals in 90 mins – 13/2

Tottenham are currently sitting in fifth in the Premier League on eight points after five matches. Harry Kane has begun to find his shooting boots after yet another dry August month for goals. Dele Alli is continuing to rise his stock with assists and goals and most importantly for Spurs fans, their new centre back Sanchez is fitting into the defence like a glove. Mauricio Pochettino will hope his sides attacking prowess will prove too much for the West Ham defence and will look to dominate the possession stats to produce the most chances. Can his side claim a big three points?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Tottenham to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 4/1

Slaven Bilic has endured a stressful time as West Ham manager for as long as you can imagine. He seemed to have a positive transfer window with the introductions of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez, getting fans excited at the London Stadium. Joe Hart has also begun to prove some of his nay-sayers he isn’t past it just yet with two clean sheets in the last two Premier League matches. West Ham are currently seventeenth in the Premier League with only goal difference keeping them outside of the relegation zone. With only four points to their name, a win is needed now more than ever to take off some of the pressure.
