Leeds Utd vs Middlesbrough - Match Preview

Leeds Utd vs Middlesbrough – Match Preview – Middlesbrough take a trip to Leeds on Sunday as Gary Monk faces his old team for the first time since leaving in the summer.

Monk was in charge at Elland Road for just one year, where he led the club to a seventh-place finish. Now at Middlesbrough, they sit in fifth place, seven points behind Sheffield United who occupy second. With big money signings coming into to bolster their squad, many (including myself) made Middlesbrough favourites to win the league this year. With an already talented squad following their relegation from the Premier League, the signings of Britt Assombalonga, Johnny Howson and Darren Randolph means they have one of the most coveted squads in the division.

As we all know, the Championship isn’t quite that simple. Middlesbrough started slowly but have started to pick up some momentum and have finally started to show the form we all expected in August. With three wins on the bounce, there is now a firm belief they can get back to where they should be and put in a real push for an automatic promotion spot. Middlesbrough’s upturn in fortunes has coincided with Assombalonga’s return to form. The former Peterborough and Nottingham Forest striker has netted three goals in his last five games, taking his season tally up to eight.

Leeds’ initial start to the season has faded somewhat in recent weeks, with the club now dropping out of the playoffs and down to tenth place. They’ve lost five of their last six games in league and cup, with Thomas Christiansen’s side winning just once since September. A huge part of that has been Leeds’ inability to score goals. In those last six games, the Yorkshire side have notched just seven goals, with three of those coming in the only game they won. A large part of this has been the poor form of Pierre-Michel Lasogga. The German striker has struggled to find the net following his blistering start to the season, with just two goals in six games.

The home side have won three of the last six meetings between the two teams and haven’t lost at home to Middlesbrough since 2011. When Middlesbrough were last in the Championship before gaining promotion, they managed a 0-0 draw at Elland Road after beating them 3-0 at the Riverside Stadium earlier in the campaign. These games are usually tight, with just one goal or fewer separating seven of the last eight meetings. With that in mind, I think a draw could be on the cards. Whilst Leeds aren’t in great form, they have good players and I think they’ll bounce back against a very good Middlesbrough team.

Prediction: Leeds 1-1 Middlesbrough

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview – The Premier League returns with a bang this weekend as Tottenham travel to Arsenal in the North London Derby.

Arsenal come into this match four points behind their rivals and 12 behind league leaders Manchester City. With Arsenal so far adrift from the top already, it looks as if they’ll have yet another tough season of battling for a place in the Champions League. Under Arsene Wenger, there is no doubt that the club has gone stale, with new blood needed to reinvigorate this underachieving club. With the club being run as a business, as long as they’re making money, majority shareholder Stan Kroenke is reluctant to bring in a new lease of life at the helm.

Lacazette should start after scoring twice in midweek for France Photo Credit: skysports.com

Arsenal forward, Alexandre Lacazette, grabbed himself a brace in midweek as France drew 2-2 with World Champions Germany. The forward scored two goals in his last three games before the international break and this double will have only helped improve his confidence. With Wenger heavily criticised for leaving the former Lyon striker on the bench in their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, I fully expect him to lead the line on Saturday.

Tottenham are expecting to welcome back Dele Alli and Harry Kane back from injury ahead of their trip across the capital. Both players missed England’s friendlies against Germany and Brazil but are both expected to be fit for this game. Kane has scored six goals in six Premier League appearances against Arsenal including netting in the last five consecutive meetings. With the Englishman in such fine form again this season, few would bet against him adding to that total.

Mauricio Pochettino is yet to taste defeat against Arsenal in six league meetings with the club. The last three matches at the Emirates have all finished 1-1 and this unbeaten run makes him the only full-time Spurs manager to have managed more than one North London derby in the Premier League and remain unbeaten. The Argentinian has a 33% win percentage against Arsenal, with only Harry Redknapp (37%) above him.

Arsenal haven’t won in the league against Tottenham since 2014. That stat underlines how good a job Pochettino has done in transforming this Spurs side, with both clubs seemingly heading in opposite directions. Those last six matches have yielded 15 goals, averaging at exactly 2.5 a game. Whilst Spurs have been solid at remaining unbeaten, they still haven’t won at the Emirates since 2010. With the last three Emirates meetings finishing 1-1, I could see a similar outcome again. Given the attacking power both sides have, I think BTTS would be my safest bet.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Spurs

SKYBET: CORRECT SCORE DRAW 1-1- 11/2

SKYBET: LACAZETTE AND KANE TO BOTH SCORE- 7/2

SKYBET: SANCHEZ TO SCORE FIRST AND ARSENAL TO WIN 2-1- 33/1

SKYBET: ERIKSEN TO SCORE OUTSIDE THE BOX- 13/2

SKYBET: BTTS AND SPURS TO WIN- 100/30

SKYBET RAB: 7+ TOTTENHAM CORNERS AND 40+ ARSENAL BOOKING POINTS- 11/1

SKYBET: XHAKA AND AURIER TO BOTH BE CARDED- 9/2

SKYBET: ARSENAL TO SCORE 2+ GOALS, 5+ ARSENAL CORNERS AND 20+ TOTTENHAM BKING PTS – 5/2

SKYBET: BTTS, 4+ CORNERS EACH TEAM AND 20+ BKING PTS EACH TEAM – 7/2

SKYBET: TO SCORE 2+ GOALS – ARSENAL – 10/11

Preston North End vs Bolton - Match Preview

Preston North End vs Bolton – Match Preview – The international break signifies its end with a return to club football action as Preston North End attempt to get out of their rotten slump with a game at Deepdale against a Bolton Wanderers side with a new lease of life.

Completely uncharacteristically for teams in The Championship, generally as things stand these two sides have had rather predictable seasons. Preston are a decent, if unspectacular side and Bolton have struggled upon gaining promotion from League One last term.

However, despite a large gap between the two teams in the table, the form table makes for an otherwise surprising viewing – Preston, who had only lost one of their opening 11 Championship matches, have now lost the last four in a row and have sunk into the bottom half, in 14th position.

This run of form is a far cry from what inspired manager Alex Neil, who came in at the beginning of the campaign, to state (at the end of October) that promotion is an achievable goal for his club this year.

In contrasting fortunes, recently, Phil Parkinson’s Bolton have recovered from their woeful start back to life in England’s second-tier and unbeaten in their last five games – a 2-1 victory over Norwich City just before the international break took The Trotters off the foot of the table.

Madine has scored 4 goals for Bolton so far this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

To put it into context, Bolton had not won a single game in their first 11, losing a massive nine of those in the process. Two wins from the next five have seen a real turnaround and the former Premier League team are now just two points away from exiting the relegation zone and have the momentum to continue the push up the table.

Due to The Lilywhite’s poor form, and Bolton’s own struggles this season both sides can and will view this game as an ideal opportunity to secure some vital points.

NFL - Gameweek 11 Preview

NFL – Gameweek 11 Preview – This is the final week of the season for byes with the Panthers, Colts, Jets, and 49ers on a bye, here are my top 5 Week 11 Picks:

Thursday Night: Titans at Steelers

On a short week between two playoff teams this matchup will be very intriguing. The Steelers offense hasn’t been consistently good, and against the 22nd ranked defense in the league they will be looking to get things right. Meanwhile in the AFC South, the Titans are locked in a division race with the hot Jaguars. Expect a close game here!

Steelers To Win –  30-24

Roethlisberger: 315 YDS, 3 TD

Bell: 125 Total YDS, 1 REC TD, 1 Rushing TD

Brown: 100 YDS, 1 REC TD

Skybet Price Boost – JuJu Smith-Schuster (PIT) & DeMarco Murray (TEN) both to score a TD – 5/1

Rams at Vikings

Both teams are 7-2 this season, both teams are leading their division and finally both teams are fighting for the top seed in the NFC, both 1 game behind the Eagles. The Rams are an offensive team while the Vikings are a defensive team. In the end it comes down to the weaker side of ball, the question will be can the Vikings out play the Rams defense? As the old saying goes, offense wins games, defense wins championships.

Rams To Win –  24-20

Goff: 225 YDS, 2 TDs

Gurley: 110 Total YDS, 1 Rushing TD

Woods: 85 YDS, 1 REC TD

Skybet Total Points Band – 41-44 Points – 6/1

Patriots vs Raiders

The Pats have been hot and seem to be gaining momentum as again the top team in the AFC! The Raiders coming off their bye week will be looking to get things right after an underwhelming start to the season. The Raiders defense is in for a tough task against Tom Brady. I expect a high scoring game with this one.

Patriots To Win –  34-24

Brady: 325 YDS, 3 TDs

Lewis: 88 Total YDS, 1 Rushing TD

Gronk: 85 YDS, 1 REC TD

Skybet Handicap and Total Points – New England Patriots -6.5 and Over 51.5 Total Match Points – 2/1

Sunday Night: Eagles at Cowboys

If the Eagles win they basically are division champs by pulling five games ahead of the Cowboys. Dallas didn’t look good without suspended RB Ezekiel Elliot last week along with their banged up offensive line. Meanwhile, the Eagles have been rolling on both sides of the ball, and their pass rush will be a problem.

Eagles To Win –  27-23

Weinz: 285 YDS, 3 TDs

Skybet Handicap and Total Points – Philadelphia Eagles -3.5 and Over 48.5 Total Match Points – 3/1

Monday Night: Falcons at Seahawks

The Seahawks are injured on both sides of the ball but particularly with their defense, which against a high scoring offense will be trouble. However, QB Russell Wilson in primetime seems to work magic so I am expecting a close mid scoring game. The Falcons have just a little more in their arsenal which in the end will give them the edge.

Falcons To Win –  28-27

Ryan: 300 YDS, 2 TDs

Freeman/Colman, 2 Rushing TDs

Jones: 115 YDS, 1 REC TD

Skybet Away Team Points – Falcons 26-28 Points – 5/1

germany-vs-france-friendly-match-preview

Germany vs France – Friendly – Match Preview – An absolute blockbuster international friendly is in store as World Champions Germany clash with European Championships runners-up France in Cologne.

Joachim Low’s Germany will be seeking revenge for the Euro 2016 semi-final exit at the hands of France, an Antonine Greizmann brace sending the hosts to the final in the massive 2-0 win.

Die Mannschaft have been their usual relentless selves since that crushing defeat, remaining undefeated in their last 20 games after cruising through their World Cup qualification group.

An uninspiring 0-0 draw with an unusually young England team left a lot to be desired, and a victory over one of the favourites in Russia next year will re-establish Germany as top dogs, if they weren’t already.

France’s road to Russia was also relatively trouble-free, topping a group that included Sweden and a lacklustre Netherlands before beginning their preparations with a comfortable 2-0 win over Wales on Friday night – Griezmann and Giroud the goal-scorers on this occasion.

Didier Deschamps has been given a new contract until 2020, and many French supporters are questioning the decision. This has only seen to ramp up the pressure on delivering results, losing to Portugal in the Euro 2016 final was seen as a disappointment and with such an outstanding squad at his disposal success at the World Cup is imperative.

Like European rivals Germany, imposing themselves by beating one of the planet’s best teams could go a long way in obtaining positive momentum heading into next year’s showpiece stage.

Griezmann scored in the last friendly over Wales Photo Credit: skysports.com

It is not often a team can say they have won their previous matches against Germany, but in Les Blues case, it is true – the 2-0 mentioned above and a win by the same score-line in a 2015 friendly. Even rarer is France’s ability to say they have won their last two fixtures away to Germany too, 2-1 in 2012 and 3-0 in 2003.

There is an array of world-class talent on display and this will be an unmissable match where two of the true heavyweights of European and world football battle for superiority.

Team News

The German media’s new golden boy Timo Werner could be set to start up front again as Low looks to address an area of his side that has plagued him in recent years. Sami Khedira, Bernd Leno, Lars Stindl and Mario Gotze could also feature after being left on the bench against England. Notable is the fact the majority of the squad play in the native Bundesliga and that even without stalwarts such as Manuel Neuer and Jerome Boateng just how strong the team still is.

With the vast attacking options available to Deschamps, players like Nabil Fekir, Anthony Martial and Alexandre Lacazette could be rotated in to the side.
Barcelona’s Lucas Digne, PSG’s Adrien Rabiot and Tottenham Hotspur’s Moussa Sissoko are all players that further signify France’s strength in depth that are hoping to get some game-time.

Rep Ire vs Denmark - Match Preview

Rep Ire vs Denmark – Match Preview – It’s all still to play for between Ireland and Denmark as they face off in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier second leg this Tuesday night.

An action packed first leg with over 20 attempts on goal resulted in a rather entertaining bore draw. Both sides came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock however their efforts weren’t enough.

Martin O’Neill’s men now have the home advantage for the second leg which could become a crucial factor, given the Irish nature. 90 minutes of bellowing renditions of ‘The soldiers’ song’ and ‘The boys in green’ will create an atmosphere to remember for all who attend.

Can Murphy fire the Irish into the World Cup Photo Credit: skysports.com

Both sides suffered no setbacks in terms of injury or suspension in the first leg which will see both nations surely line up in their full-strength sides. Tottenham attacker, Christian Eriksen, was a huge threat to the Irish defence and was often the catalyst for the Spurs attack. This should be no different on Irish soil.

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Christian Eriksen to Score Anytime in 90 mins – 3/1

James McClean, who scored the all-important goal in Cardiff to get Ireland to the play-offs, is also sure to feature for his nation. The West Brom winger has pace to burn and a mean left foot that could pose trouble for Kasper Schmeical in the Danish net.

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – James McClean to Score Anytime in 90 mins – 3/1

Ireland have gone from strength to strength since their UEFA EURO 2016 campaign, becoming a much more solid unit from the back. Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Shane Duffy, has become the stand out figure in the defence, with his hardman persona and leadership qualities, he has become indispensable to the Irish defence. Moving up the formation, Jeff Hendrick has also become a key figure in the Irish attack. His relentless energy through the midfield and his ability to spot a pass has become a valuable asset.

Skybet Match Result – Ireland to Win – 19/10

Bendtner and his team mates will be tough to break down Photo Credit: skysports.com

The Danish squad is full of talents who play their club football all over Europe. They scored 20 goals in their 10-qualification group matches and only conceded eight goals; proving they are both clinical in attack and solid at the back. Celta Vigo winger, Pione Sisto, has grown into a key figure in the Danish attack in a matter of months. Can the Danes upset the Irish party?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Denmark to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 9/4

England vs Brazil - Friendly - Match Preview

England vs Brazil – Friendly – Match Preview – England will be hoping for another positive result when they host Brazil at Wembley. Gareth Southgate’s much-changed team will be looking to grab a win following their 0-0 draw with Germany on Friday.

After an encouraging display last time out, England will look to push on with another good display. Southgate’s young lions put in a dogged display against the World Champions, with a number of players putting in good performances. Ruben Loftus-Cheek was awarded man of the match and the Chelsea loanee will have put himself at the forefront of Southgate’s mind ahead of next year’s World Cup. Alongside Loftus-Cheek, Jordan Pickford stood out, twice preventing Timo Werner from opening the scoring in impressive fashion.

Loftus-Cheek impressed against Germany in the last friendly Photo Credit: skysports.com

Joe Gomez and Tammy Abraham also both made their full debuts, with Abraham coming closest to scoring for the home side. Whilst both didn’t really do a lot wrong, I think it’ll be tough for them to force a way into the 23-man squad when everyone’s fit. Southgate started the game with a back three, a formation that the Englishman has favoured in recent games.

If England are going to be successful this summer and beyond, I think it’s a system they need to stick with. With a full complement of players, the system suits the players available best. It allows Dele Alli to get closer to Harry Kane from a central area and allows the likes of Adam Lallana, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling the space to create chances.

Brazil’s front three will be a handful for the England defence Photo Credit: skyports.com

Brazil come into this match off the back of a 3-1 win against Japan. Gabriel Jesus continued his fine run of form with the third and final goal, his 12th strike of the season. With an array of attacking talent including Phillipe Coutinho, Willian and the world’s most expensive player, Neymar, it’ll be a stern test for England’s rear-guard.

England have a good record in recent years against Brazil, losing just one of their last four games. That defeat came back on November 14th in 2009, meaning Tuesday’s match will be exactly eight years on. The last four meetings between the two sides have yielded ten goals, averaging at exactly 2.5 a game. With that in mind, I think that there will be goals in this game.

Prediction: England 1-2 Brazil

SKYBET: BRAZIL TO WIN 2-1- 15/2

SKYBET: BTTS AND OVER 2.5 GOALS- 6/5

SKYBET: JESUS TO SCORE FIRST AND DRAW 2-2- 45/1

SKYBET: RASHFORD AND NEYMAR TO BOTH SCORE- 11/2

SKYBET: COUTINHO TO SCORE AND BRAZIL TO WIN- 100/30

SKYBET: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE IN BOTH HALVES- 14/1

SKYBET: GOALS IN BOTH HALVES- 8/11
