Horse Racing Preview - Ffos Las - 12th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Ffos Las with three selections from the meeting.

13.30 Ffos Las – Rob Davies Chemist Novices Chase (23.5f)

Joe Farrell (138)
Dan Emmett (134)
Oscartea (133)

Joe Farrell was a horse I followed throughout his bumper career when running within two and a half lengths to Barters Hill, finishing behind the likes of Wait For Me and Theo’s Charm, however Ffoa Las was where it all started when winning on debut when beating the likes of Listed hurdle winner Keeper’s Hill, he returns back to his successful haunt for the first time since this time last year and to be fair I am finding it very hard to get him beat.

He looked in need of the first outing at Chepstow last month when finishing fourth to Mia’s Storm who landed the Listed Bud Booth Mares Chase at Market Rasen this month by thirteen lengths, the third Mr Mix has also franked the form winning a 0-140 handicap chase at Wincanton last month and the runner up Elegant Escape bumped into Ballyoptic four days ago. The form is there and it would be disappointing for him to not take this in his stride being a first season chaser.

Dam Emmett has lost his way since two seasons ago, his rating came at Newcastle last March, despite his bad run of form is still well treated off today’s mark of 125, Oscartea though I fear the most this afternoon, his run when behind No Hassle Hoff at Uttoxeter would give him a live chance.

JOE FARRELL : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

15.40 Ffos Las – Victorian Sliders Handicap Chase (16f)

Little Jimmy (120)
Bredon Hill Lad (103)
Yourholidayisover (93)

So many exposed types here including the selection Little Jimmy, Tom Gretton’s ten year old looked once more very uncomfortable returning to hurdles, however Little Jimmy’s only visit here resulted in a second place to Humble Ben over 19.5f, he looks way ahead of the handicap on what he has achieved at this level and off a mark of 100 should be exploiting it now back chasing.

Bredon Hill Lad would probably be a closest rival here, Susan Gardner’s entry makes his season’s debut, he finished up last season with a win at Fontwell over further than this and is a course and distance winner last year when winning off this mark by twenty lengths so any strong market support on re-appearance should not be dismissed.

LITTLE JIMMY : 1pt each way @ SP (BOG)

16.10 Ffos Las – Walters Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle (15.8f)

Rock and Roll King (114)
Global Thrill (113)

This is actually quite a competitive race, Bernard Lllewelyn comes here with a strong hand as he saddles both Flanagans Field & Global Thrill, out of the two despite Global King coming out rated 7lb higher that Flanagans Field looks the more likely one here to do the trainer justice. The ex Dessie Hughes trained nine year old was seen winning around these ranks two runs back when scooting clear to record an eighteen length victory.

He beat his stablemate that day to seventeen lengths when in receipt of 9lb, with only conceding 2lb back this afternoon its hard to see at the weights that form being reversed. Evan Williams also has two in the race in Theatre Stage & the selection Rock and Roll King. The former on jockey bookings looks the main string here under claimer Michael Bastyan, however Rock and Roll King does not look overly exposed and finished off last season when third over 20f.

He drops back in trip here significantly and I would be very surprised that Conor Ring does not have him handy throughout the race having to give weight all round and especially 11lb to his stablemate Theatre Stage.

ROCK AND ROLL KING : 1pt Win @ SP (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Aintree - 11th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Aintree & Doncaster.

13.40 Aintree – Pertemps Network (Supporting Btrc) Handicap Hurdle (24.8f)

Winningtry (155)
Beer Goggles (146)
Vyta Du Roc (133)

Top weight here Beer Goggles has been in a rich vein of form since coming back over hurdles, with three wins and two placed runs this year he has definitely thrived. He ran here over course and distance two runs back when finishing runner up to Knight of Noir when probably giving enough weight away to be defeated by the five length margin.

His rise in the weights of 10lb did not stop him when just hanging on from Dan Skelton’s Sir Mangan at Newton Abbott last month. Winningtry was back in sixth that day fifteen lengths off the winner, he was out of the handicap that day and getting over a stone at the weights, he does have it all to do to reverse the form, but Sean Bowen takes over this afternoon for the first time off a very low riding weight for the jockey.

Best of the rest looks Nicky Henderson’s Vyla Du Roc who gets his retained jockey Daryl Jacob who would usually be riding the selection Winningtry. He was last seen at Aintree around the hurdle ranks when finishing third over two and a half miles, has only dropped 3lb here and could find this a little difficult at the weights.

WINNINGTRY : 2pt Win @ 11/2 (BOG)

14.40 Doncaster – Betfred TV EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Gillies Fillies Stakes (Listed) (10.2f)

Melesina (109)
Vintage Folly (101)
Indulged (98)

How many times this year I have watched Richard Fahey put a horse into a race that has no place of being there and it runs a massive race. He is represented here with Melesina who was last seen on the all weather at Lingfield when finishing midfield to Muffri’ha in the Listed Fleur De Lys Fillies Stakes. Now his only win in this country came over 7.5f at Beverley when winning off a mark of 84, however if he brings his continent Listed win to the table which saw him land the Le Carmago stakes at Saint-Cloud over just short of a mile on soft ground, he cannot be disregarded.

On paper the likely winner would probably come from Vintage Folly, Hugo Palmer’s three year old was not disgraced when running second to Beautiful Morning in the Listed John Musker’s Fillies Stakes at York, back in fourth was Indulged to three and a quarter lengths, the sixth, Titi Makfi gave the race a boost recently when landing the Listed 32Red Floodlit Fillies Stakes when beating 106 rated Red Verdon.

I am going to take a small chance here on Melesina, she is probably out of her depth, but like so many Fahey runners at the back end of the season they seem to be running up to their present marks and if posting his 109 run he would have to be considered as an each way bet at 20/1.

MELESINA : 1pt each way @ 20/1 (BOG)

15.25 Aintree – Free Spins At 188Bet Casino Handicap Chase (15.9f)

Ballyhiil (153)
Pain Au Chocolat (141)
Imjoeking (139)

Rebecca Menzies Pain Du Chocolat comes here off the back of a good win last month when taking the scalp of Duke of Navan by four lengths when in receipt of 5lb, they meet once more with Duke of Navan now getting a 3lb pull, it’s hard to split them once more however, I expect the form to be lot closer this time around with Rya Day’s 3lb claim.

But they all will have to be in the game to match the likes of Nigel Twiston-Davies Ballyhill here who has had two more productive runs against top opposition like Sceau Royal and last time when a close two and a half lengths behind North Hill Harvey. He would not have to pull out much here to land the spoils under amateur Zac Baker.

BALLYHILL : 3pt Win @ 15/8 (BOG)

Denmark vs Rep Ire - Match Preview

Denmark vs Rep Ire – Match Preview – The job isn’t quite done for either Denmark or Republic of Ireland who face each other this Saturday in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier Play Off.

Both nations finished second in their qualifying groups which has seen them advance to this stage; a two-legged match for a place in Russia next summer.

The hosts finished second in Group E behind Poland who ran away with 25 points from the 10 matches. Spurs attacker Christian Eriksen was the most prolific for the Danes throughout qualifying, scoring eight and setting up three. However, even a goal from Eriksen in their last outing against Romania wasn’t enough to seal a victory. Having dominated possession and had more shots, Denmark would have been frustrated to have not won that ahead of this huge tie.

As well as the Spurs star, Denmark have some other stars amongst their ranks with Kasper Schmeical, Andreas Christensen and Kasper Dolberg in the squad. These players are not only crucial for their clubs but for their country as well. Ireland will have their hands full dealing with the Danes.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Denmark to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 11/8

The visitors had a much tighter qualification process with their fate going down to the final minutes in Group D. A huge 1-0 victory away in Wales was enough for Martin O’Neill’s men to leapfrog the Welsh and gain their place in the next stage of qualifying. The Irish have shown plenty of grit and desire in their performances thus far and for what they lack in talent or personnel, they make up for with a rigid system that had only seen then concede six times in their 10 qualifying matches. West Brom winger James McClean scored the all-important goal in Cardiff and will also be the danger man this Saturday. His pace and ability to strike a ball always makes him a threat.

Can McClean provide another winner for Ireland Photo Credit: skysports.com

Ireland have performed very well overseas since O’Neill’s arrival, getting 11 of their 19 points away from home, and that could be a huge factor over the two legs. The squad has an array of Premier League talent such as Robbie Brady, Harry Arter, Shane Duffy and Jeff Hendrick. Can they grab a huge victory away from home?

Skybet Match Result – Ireland to Win – 9/2

Horse Racing Preview - Newcastle - 10th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Newcastle racecourse..

18.45 Newcastle – 32Red.com Fillies Handicap (6f0 (0-80)

With the field all becoming reasonably exposed I would like to think Declan Carroll’s filly Tilly Trotter can come on from her fourth over course and distance last month in this class. She was only defeated to two lengths she looks like one of the main contenders here.

Back a length that day was Fruit Salad when in receipt of 5lb, she only gets the 2lb here this evening however she does have a good claimer on board in Lewis Edmunds, But the tentative vote goes to Danny Tudhope’s ride here.

TILLY TROTTER : 1pt each way @ 15/2 (BOG)

20.15 Newcastle-Sun Bets On The App Handicap (0-60) (8f)

Kevin Frost’s Born to Reason will have to step up again if he is to win here, however his win in a 0-65 at Wolverhampton two runs back saw him win a shade cosily I thought despite the winning overall distance of a head. The fourth Top Offer has recently franked the form.

Main danger looks to come form Tifl  and Urban Spirit, the latter ran a creditable fourth in a seller at Redcar, ran here on career debut over 6f without figuring this mile looks his limit. Tifl I think has been knocking on the door despite his form reads. Heather Main’s four year old has not shown much around Kempton on three visits, however does get the services of PJ McDonald this evening.

BORN TO REASON : 3pt Win @ 5/4 (BOG)

England vs Germany - Friendly - Match Preview

England vs Germany – Friendly – Match Preview – England face Germany at Wembley tomorrow night, with fans excited to see Gareth Southgate’s experimental three lions side in action.

Southgate’s squad has been decimated by injuries, with a number of high-profile players withdrawing from the squad. Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Raheem Sterling are just a few key players who will be unavailable for the match, which offers the opportunity for several uncapped players to seize their chance.

Loftus-Cheek is set to start against Germany Photo Credit: skysports.com

Southgate yesterday called up Burnley midfielder Jack Cork, with a number of midfielders out injured. Cork has had a fine season for Sean Dyche’s side and has been a revelation since joining for £10million in the summer from Swansea City. It has also been confirmed that uncapped Crystal Palace loanee, Ruben Loftus-Cheek will make his debut tomorrow, whilst Tammy Abraham and Joe Gomez will be hoping to do the same. With Kane out injured, Southgate is yet to reveal who will captain the side. Joe Hart and Gary Cahill are amongst the main contenders, should either be chosen to start.

With the World Cup looming, the opportunity for fringe players to make their mark is huge. Southgate has been very strong in his selections, refusing to pick higher-profiled players if they’re not playing regularly for their club. Jack Wilshere, Chris Smalling and Danny Drinkwater have all been a victim of this. This refreshing approach could well lead to a more unified England set-up and whilst nobody is expecting much in Russia, it could be a catalyst for future success.

Marcel Halstenberg is set to start for Germany Photo Credit: rblive.de

Germany have named Marcel Halstenberg in their squad, with the Leipzig defender looking to earn his first cap for his country. Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze have also both been re-called to the set-up following injuries. With big names like Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil and Mats Hummels all available, it could be a tough night for this young England side.

England have only won one of their last four meetings with Germany, which came back in 2016. The last meeting ended in a 1-0 defeat for them, with a new-look team going down to a Lukas Podolski wonder strike. England’s more recent performances against ‘the old enemy’ can give them confidence, with the last three games all finishing with just one goal between the teams.

With England so heavily depleted, I can only see one winner on Friday night. Even if Germany rest some of their star players, I think they’ll have too much for Southgate’s men.

Prediction: England 0-2 Germany

NFL - Gameweek 10 Preview

NFL – Gameweek 10 Preview – With the Ravens, Chiefs, Raiders and Eagles on byes this week, here are my top 5 NFL Predictions for week 10:

Thursday Night: Seahawks at Cardinals

The Seahawks have been hot of late, although losing an upset to the Redskins on Sunday. On a short week against the injured Cardinals, I am expecting Seattle to get back on track especially in the tight division race with the Rams. The Cardinals running game and defense have maintained course even through the injuries so expect a close but low score game.

Seahawks to Win – 17-10

Wilson: 245 YDS, 2 TDS

Baldwin: 88 YDS, 1 TD

Skybet Price Boost – Adrian Peterson (ARI) & Doug Baldwin (SEA) both to score a TD – 5/1

Cowboys at Falcons

The Slumping defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons are facing the hot and surging Cowboys. The Cowboys offense has rounded into form the past few weeks, and the defense has improved since the start of the season. The Falcons offense has been steady, but haven’t executed in the redzone as successful as last season, and the defense aren’t getting key stops when needed. At some point the Falcons are due for an offensive explosion; another loss could end their playoff chances being in the tough NFC south Division. I see this game turning into a shootout!

Falcons to Win – 35-31

Ryan: 350 YDS, 3 TDS

Freeman: 115 Total YDS, 1 Rushing TD, 1 REC TD

Jones: 125 YDS: 1 TD

Skybet Handicap and Total Points – Falcons (-2.5) and Over 54.5 Points – 7/2

Texans at Rams

With the injury to leading Rookie of the Year candidate QB Deshaun Watson, questions will be high on the Texans QB situation moving forward. The Rams have been impressive this season including their 51 Point explosion win over the Giants last week. The Texans run game, and defenses are still strong and will play a motivated game. However, the Rams at home I believe will prevail.

Rams to Win –  24-10

Goff: 285 YDS, 2 TDS

Gurley: 130 YDS, 1 TD

Woods: 88 YDS, 1 TD REC

Skybet Handicap and Total Points – Los Angeles Rams -10.5 and Under 48.5 Total Match Points – 2/1

Browns at Lions

Coming off their win against the injured Packers on Monday night, the Lions are looking to take the division. The division leading Minnesota Vikings are still without their QB, RB, and have injuries at WR. Meanwhile, the struggling Browns have yet to win a game this season, and on the road will be in a tough battle. They lions need a win to keep pace, I believe they will.

Lions to Win –  24-14

Stafford: 300 YDS, 2 TDS

Jones: 105 YDS, 1 TD REC

Tate: 88 YDS, 1 TD REC

Skybet Handicap and Total Points – Detroit Lions -11.5 and Under 45.5 Total Match Points – 5/2

Sunday Night: Patriots at Broncos

On paper the Pats should defeat the Broncos easily, however these two rivals always have a tough battle, and the Broncos are historically successful against the Pats at home. The Broncos haven’t been consistent on offense this season, and will be relying on the defense to lead the way against the explosive Patriots. While they haven’t made too many news headlines, the Pats offense has been consistently good and their defense have made improvements. Coming off a bye week it’s hard to pick against the Pats.

Patriots to Win –  27-14

Brady: 288 YDS, 2 TDS

Lewis: 85 Total YDS, 1 Rushing TD

Gronkowski: 115 YDS, 1 REC TD

Skybet Handicap and Total Points – Patriots (-8.5) and Under 47.5 Points – 11/4
