France vs Wales - Friendly - Match Preview

France vs Wales – Friendly – Match Preview – The first international break since the 2018 World Cup qualification process is upon us, as the teams going to the planet’s biggest stage begin their preparations for the showpiece event.

On paper, France are one of the hottest teams on the planet with players such as Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, Raphael Varane and a host more.

Their strength in depth is frightening, and paired with the fact they so nearly won the last international tournament – losing 1-0 in the 2016 European Championships final to Portugal – makes them one of the strongest contenders to go one better in 2018.

Anthony Martial is likely to start against Wales Photo Credit: skysports.com

Didier Deschamps is under pressure to perform at the next tournament and with this squad at his disposal will be expected to sweep all before him; that begins with Wales on Friday in front of an expectant Stade de France crowd.

After a remarkable showing in the aforementioned tournament; Wales would have been hopeful of qualifying for their first (and only second in total) World Cup since 1958 – where they lost in the quarter-final to Brazil where a certain Pele scored the game’s only goal.

Heartbreakingly, but exhilaratingly so for the neutral, it all came down to the last game for the Dragons where they faced a Republic of Ireland team in exactly the same boat – win to reach the play-offs. Martin O’Neill’s side triumphed thanks to James McLean’s solitary goal to send the Irish faithful into raptures. This match will be about proving Chris Coleman’s men can still mix it with the big boys and that France 2016 was no flash in the plan, in preparation for the next qualification campaign.

Team News

Deschamps has recalled Anthony Martial to his squad after the forward’s strong form for Manchester United this season and after mass fan clamouring, Lyon favourite Nabil Fekir is in line to earn his 10th cap for Les Bleus after a blistering start to the campaign.

There is no N’Golo Kante as the Chelsea workhorse recovers from a knock but there is a place for Florian Thauvin – the man who flattered to deceive at Newcastle has impressed selectors after returning to his native Marseille.

Bale’s injury woes continue Photo Credit: skysports.com

Chris Coleman will be without star man Gareth Bale yet again as the Real Madrid forward’s injury woes continue. West Brom forward Hal-Robson Kanu, Sunderland’s Jonathan Williams and Ipswich central midfielder Emyr Huws have also withdrawn from the squad – the quartet have been replaced by Tom Bradshaw, Lloyd Isgrove, Lee Evans and Ryan Hedges.

Horse Racing Preview - Newbury - 9th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Newbury racecourse.

13.40 Newbury – Dawnus Handicap Chase (19.8f)

This would look a good opportunity for Nigel Twiston-Davies’ Colins Brother to bounce back to winning ways here. If the ground holds up on the good side of soft he should be thereabouts considering he was seen close this time last year when finishing third over a furlong less than this afternoon. He looked in need of the run at Ludlow last time on ground that probably came up too soft for a seasons re-appearance.

Nigel Hawke teams up with Danny Cook for the first time with Greybougg, now this is the intriguing entry for me. We last saw him hacking up at Ludlow on his last seasonal run of 2016, He has been risen 8lb for that win however, he has equipped himself well enough around Newbury over shorter trips and looks in need of the two and a half miles and will enjoy the soft ground.

GREYBOUGG : 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BOG)

14.10 Newbury – CSP Mares Novices Hurdle (16.3f)

This looks on paper a strong match up between Fergal O’Brien’s Cap Soleil and the selection who represents Richard Hobson stable in Dame Rose. The former comes here unbeaten from the NHF and will make her awaited hurdles debut. She looks a very smart mare after taking two Listed bumpers at Cheltenham and Sandown, she must be taken seriously.

However, I am taking her on with Dame Rose, she achieved a little better around the bumper sphere when landing the Grade 2 Goffs Nickel Coin Mares at Aintree when fending off Oscar Rose one of her adversaries here. She got off at the first time of asking at Hexham in a Novice hurdle winning it in fine style by twelve lengths, with that slight hurdling experience I will give her the nod to overturn Cap Soleil here.

DAME ROSE : 2pt Win @ 7/2 (BOG)

Scotland vs Netherlands - Friendly - Match Preview

Scotland vs Netherlands – Friendly – Match Preview – The international break is upon us and sees the Netherlands travel to Scotland after both teams failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Both nations finished third in their respective World Cup qualifying groups so recent times haven’t favoured either Scotland or Holland.

In their most recent outing, the hosts drew with Slovenia in a heartbreaking result that if won, would have seen them to the next stage of qualifying for the World Cup. A goal from the ever-clinical Leigh Griffiths gave the Scots a flying start, however fortunes turned quickly and although an 88th minute goal from Robert Snodgrass got them on level terms, ultimately it was another frustrating campaign for the Scots. The Celtic striker along with Stoke’s Darren Fletcher will miss out after withdrawing from the squad.

The Netherlands ended their campaign in fine form, however their earlier mishaps cost them qualification. A first half brace against Sweden from Bayern Munich winger, Arjen Robben, wasn’t enough for the Netherlands to leapfrog their Scandinavian opponents. The 33 year old has now retired from international football after failing to qualify for the forthcoming World Cup.The Dutch squad is full to the brim of talent with many household names taking the field for Holland most times, however in recent years they have bitterly underperformed for some odd reason.

Arjen Robben calls time on international football at the age of 33 Photo Credit: skysports.com

Both sides have proven goal scorers and not the most solid of defensive lines so expect some goals in this one. Interim manager of Scotland, Malky Mackay has named his squad with a few new faces amongst the list. Paul Hanlon of Hibernian and Jason Cummings of Nottingham Forest have their first senior squad call-up. Regular, Scott Brown, should feature as the Scots will look to overpower the Dutch midfield with an abrasive high press. A negative for the Scots though as Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths, along with Stoke’s Darren Fletcher will miss out after withdrawing from the squad.

Skybet Match Result – Scotland to Win – 13/5

Holland have been dealt with some late injury news following Jurgen Locadia and Kenny Tete’s injuries. Luuk de Jong and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have joined up with the national side that has a lot of familiar faces. Wesley Sneijder and Kevin Strootman headline the midfield with Premier League stars Virgil Van Dijk and Nathan Ake bossing things at the back. Should be a great tie with some great players involved.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Netherlands to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 7/1

Horse Racing Preview - Nottingham & Kempton - 8th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Nottingham and Kempton racecourses.

14.15 Nottingham – Lady Cecil Handicap (5f)

Gracious John (106)
Perfect Pasture (105)
Atletico (98)

David Evans Gracious John returns to the haunt that saw him land this race last year when beating Perfect Pasture by half a length when getting 10lb from his rival, this year he comes into this off just 98 and is only in receipt of 9lb, 1lb might not seem like a lot but it’s equivalent to half a length if needed to reverse that form.

Both have come into this off the back of wins, Gracious John winning three weeks ago at Leicester when over turning 106 rated Just Glamorous, and has only been penalised 2lb, Perfect Pasture won at Doncaster when beating 101 rated Flying Pursuit, however that was over 6f. Today’s optimum trip at this level has seen him just 1-9 as to Gracious John whose form is not much better, however he has been floating around marks of 106-110 for a while so to be dropped to just 98, looks best of the two to land this race. Perfect Pasture drops back to 5f for the first time since this race last year.

One that could upset the applecart if the two inform entrants lose their way is Roger Varian’s Atletico, he has been beaten by Tomily this year to two and a quarter lengths at Doncaster last time out, the only problem he was drawn totally out of the race despite staying on in the closing stages, he is still 9lb higher than when winning his sole turf race at Windsor back in July.

GRACIOUS JOHN : 2pt Win @ 4/1 (BOG)

18.10 Kempton – 32Red.com Nursery (7f)

Motown Mick (82)
Lady of Aran (78)

Richard Hannon books the services of Timmy Murphy this evening on Motown Mick, this son of Intikhab was last seen finishing second to Di Fede by the smallest of margins, back in fifth was Finsbury Park to twelve lengths and even at these weights it’s hard to see that reversed.

Main danger I feel will come from Charlie Fellowes Lady of Aran, she had plenty in hand when beating her opponents over course and distance five weeks ago and the daughter of Sir Prancealot should have no problems here again to be involved under PJ McDonald.

MOTOWN MICK : 2pt Win @ 11/4 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Redcar - 7th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Redcar.

13.50 Redcar – Racing UK Free For A Month Handicap (10f)

Swift Emperor (101)
Qaffaal (97)
Awake My Soul (90)

Qaffaal is just one of three entries here for Mick Easterby with probably Magic City being the main string with Lewis Edmunds booked, however Qaffaal was last seen over this trip at Chelmsford when finishing third to 105 rated Fanciful Angel, he tends to do a lot of his work late on so he won’t be on the scene until extremely late, Awake My Soul represents the Tom Tate yard, His run behind the likes of Century Dream last time at Newbury would put him right there.

It did not end well when finishing last off a mark of 93, just 5lb lower this time around, he would have to divert his last run when behind Century Dream at Newbury to be involved this afternoon which is not the easiest of tasks. The selection comes in the way of David Barron’s Swift Emperor who was last seen over course and distance back in May when eighth in the Zetland old Cup.

His second last time at York when finishing runner up to Grand Inquisitor, he is another that will come off the pace, but he tends to leave himself too much to do these days, however Ben Curtis knows the way he has to be ridden and should be on the premises.

SWIFT EMPEROR : 1pt each way @ SP (BOG)

15.25 Redcar – Start Your Racing Uk Free Trial Now Handicap (15.9f)

DAKOTA CITY (82)
Ingleby Hollow (70)
Adrakhan (69)

Olly Murphy’s Dakota City is the NAP this afternoon, this will be his first attention on the turf over today’s index, however he has competed over two miles on the all weather at Chelmsford when finishing behind the likes of Velvet Revolution and Cartwright who that day were rated over 15lb ahead of this selection, so a bold run despite the distance of defeat.

Both Ingleby Hollow & Adrakhan can pick up the pieces if the selection fails to shine here, especially the latter who represents a trainer with a 22% strike rate around here. He has attempted three times around a further index, but his run at Catterick last time pulls him with a place claim.

DAKOTA CITY : 3pt Win @ SP (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Kempton - 6th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come on the all weather at Kempton.

14.20 Kempton – 32Red On The App Store Fillies Handicap (8f)

LUCY THE PAINTER (92)
Tai Hang Dragon (82)
Lady Lydia (82)

Ed de Giles five year old has plummeted at the weights and has not seen a winning enclosure for the past nineteen runs, however her all weather form reads 3-5 and despite her poor run which has mainly come on turf she was seen here over course and distance back in the spring when not running a true race finishing second last to Aljazzi in the Listed Snowdrop Fillies Stakes. That winner went on to land the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes.

She has dropped to a mark of 80 for the first time since the spring of 2015, her main form does come around the spring, however this mark is very exploitable being 12lb lower than she has been contending over the past season and a half. Tai Hang Dragon probably has a better chance of winning this afternoon with Sean Levey on board. Levey has a reasonable stat form on her and I think you could disregard her last run at Newmarket as it honestly felt Ryan Moore was totally dis-interested in putting her into the race.

Lady Lydia will probably being playing catch up with the field, she has a lot to find with a few of these, however this is a very open contest for me so the results recently could bring a big run out of her regardless.

LUCY THE PAINTER : 1pt each way @ 12/1 (BOG)

15.50 Kempton – 32Red.com Handicap (6f)

KASBAH (92)
Sir Ottoman (91)
Fast Track (91)

I could not split several of these to be fair and this is a very tight knit contest, David Barron’s Fast Track was seen running a cracker off 89 when behind the likes of Solar Flair and Stellarta, he was strangely dropped to the optimum at Chelmsford when beaten just a length and a quarter. He has fairly good form on the all weather and I would expect a bold showing again.

Sir Ottoman represents Ivan Furtado, the ex French trained four year old has failed to shine since landing in the UK, but the most eye catching is this a selling tactic with Luke Morris being booked on a 25/1 shot, if she does not shine here I feel we could see her in a seller or claimer.

On to the selection, trained by Amanda Perratt his last visit here saw him finishing fourth to Hakam, he was also seen that day finished behind Solar Flair and Stellarta, ridden by Jack Mitchell that day he was outpaced very quickly and finished off the race one pace, Jack Mitchell gets the ride again which is not the most positive thing to see, however he has the ability to run above this caliber of adversaries.

KASBAH : 1pt each way @ 10/1 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Carlisle - 5th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview this afternoon has selections coming from Carlisle.

13.05 Carlisle – Bet At Racinguk.com Handicap Hurdle (20f)

Shantou Bob (147)
Desert Cry (135)
One For Harry (134)

Despite Warren Greatrex’s nine year old Shantou Bob having to concede weight all round here I would be surprised to see him out of the first two here. He has not been seen much these days, just three runs last season around this time of the year and does go well fresh when runner up at Newbury over three miles. He followed up when winning over the Christmas period landing a class 2 and was not disgraced when running fifth to Uknowhatimeanharry in the Cleeve Hurdle when behind four superior horses which included Cole Harden and West Approach.

Desert Cry beat One For Harry back in March at Ayr over this trip, he was conceding 7lb that afternoon when thrashing him by twenty seven lengths. They meet off the same terms and it is hard to see that form being reversed,

SHANTOU BOB : 1pt each way @ 13/2 (BOG)

15.35 Carlisle – Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase (20f)

Belami Des Pictons (159)
Waiting Patiently (152)

This looks a perfect matchup between Joe Jefferson’s Waiting Patiently and Venetia Williams Belami Des Pictons with the narrow vote going to the latter. They both have a similar profile, however the William’s entry usually needs a run, so I am hoping he is not fully wound up to go this time around as his last run when beating Zeroshadesofgrey I think is not as good as Waiting Patiently’s form when beating Paul Nicholl’s Prolitologue at Haydock.

The fact that jefferson’s horse goes well fresh is a plus, Bryan Hughes gets on with him so well and this looks like a banker of the day for me.

WAITING PATIENTLY : 5pt Win @ 10/11 (BOG)

Horse Racing Preview - Breeders Cup - 4th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Del Mar in California with the Breeders Cup. The big day has arrived! I will not be covering them all, so here are my top two races on the card

19:00 Del Mar – Hands Winery Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies (Grade 1) (8.5f)

Heavenly Love (119)

Moonshine Memories (110)

Stainless (108)

Mark Casse’s Heavenly Love was last seen twenty eight days ago when landing the Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keenland, she overturned the 2/1 favourite that day in Princess Warrior by five and a half lengths off level weights. They have both managed to bag  good draws for this and it be a tough call if Heavenly Love maintains that level of form.

Bob Baffert’s Stainless was last seen running three and three quarter lengths behind Rushing Fall who was seen landing the Juveniles Fillies Turf last night in good fashion. You don’t see that many 33/1 shots representing the legend Todd Pletcher and Johnny V riding her. However i have elected to go for the second rated here in Moonshine Memories.

The unbeaten daughter of Malibu Moon was last seen when beating Bob Baffert’s Alluring Star by two and three quarter lengths in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita, It was probably the biggest career win of trainer Simon Callaghan who has been out of the game for the past few years, however she looks very smart and even though unbeaten runs have been broken here in the past she just might have to much in the locker for these.

MOONSHINE MEMORIES : 2pt Win @ 5/1 (BOG)

19.37 Del Mar – Breeders Cup Turf Sprint (Grade 1) (5f)

Hogy (121)

Pure Sensation (118)

Lady Aurelia (114)

Lady Aurelia will be looking for some compensation here after beaten by Marsha in the closest of finishes in the Nunthorpe. She meets Marsh off the same weights, but this time around she has home soil advantage and the faster ground, at evens though she would not interest me. Sir Mark Prescott’s Marsha was overturned in this years L’Abbaye to Battaash who has skipped this event, she will have to overcome Lady Aurelia on her own stopping ground and quick ground.

One I do like here is Michael Maker’s Hogy, the Kentucky Turf Sprint winner beat the likes of Wesley Wards Undrafted, however he has been beaten this year by both Holding Gold and Disco Partner significantly, but at 16/1 he deserves to be on the premises. Pure Sensation is another that has a cracking chance of hitting the frame, he is another that has been beaten by Holding old and Disco Partner this year, best runs have come at the optimum trip.

HOGY : 1pt each way @ 25/1 (BOG)
