Horse Racing Preview - Carlisle - 5th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from three meetings with selections from Worcester, Perth and Kempton.

14.40 Perth – Muckle Media’s Miracle Miles Novices Handicap Chase (0-110) (16f)

I was at Hexham to see Pauline Robeson’s Martiloo finish a close third behind Miss Conway, the runner up Brother Scott has franked that form recently. Martiloo was staying on with purpose that day and I would like to think despite going up into better class of a race he should adapt with confidence off his current mark of 100.

Jackie Stephen’s Welcome Ben won here back in May by eight lengths, he had the field very strung out that day and if in the same mood after a six-week layoff, he has to be feared the most, but does have to overcome a 9lb penalty.

MARTILOO : 2pt Win @ 3/1 (BOG)

15.10 Perth – Perth Racecourse Supports Racing Staff Week Handicap Hurdle (0-100)  (20.1f)

At the top of the weights here is Kenneth Stacks Bell Weir who on paper is 2-23 over hurdles which does not look interesting reading. With spells with Eoin Doyle, Dianne Sayer, he is now trained by a trainer that deserves more recognition, despite being 0-7 since making his way to the new surroundings he is still relevantly unexposed around this code. Claimer Robert Hogg has ridden on the past three outings, but he has been running over a lot less than he is capable of and stepping back up in trip to two and a half miles I feel will go very close.

Main dangers look to come from Urban Code and Green Zone with the former the more of interest for Lucinda Russell, two good runs over course and distance this year, but steps into a new class and worth noting in the market from a gambling stable.

BELL WEIR : 2pt Win @ 3/1 (BOG)

15.20 Worcester – Worcester Racecourse Supporting Race Staff Week Mares Standard Open National Hunt Flat (16f)

After a nice bumper winner tipped up yesterday I am looking for 2-2 around this sphere this year with Tom Lacey’s Ridgeway Pearl. A nicely bred filly by Malinas and half-sister to Tara Road who also won around the bumper sphere on her second start, the selection would have preferred maybe a bit more rain, however, big chance with Aidan Coleman booked.

Best of the rest, with not many outsiders over the past three years of this race winning,  it looks between the top three in the current market, Martin Keighley’s Spice Girl won well at Stratford on his second career start and regards respect, the main danger though looks Ben Case’s Oksana who finished third on debut at Southwell and should come on as will debutante Nicely Done who is by a soft ground specialist sire in Mahler and half-sister to impressive bumper winner Nicely Indeed so also warrant’s respect.

RIDGEWAY PEARL : 2pt Win @ 7/2 (BOG)

18.40 Kempton – British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies Novices Stakes (7f)

The surface has been reported to be very much on the slow side which should play into Roger Charlton’s It’s Not Unusual. The disappointing running of one of his horses yesterday I thought was a selfish move running a horse that was never going to get the trip, my meaning is I think if the yard has one ready especially a filly, they tend to run them on the all-weather, and what better place than Kempton.

She is by Exceed and Excel who ran his races on good ground, so this slower surface should not inconvenience her, out of Welsh Anthem so I am predicting the selection will want further than this sooner than later, she is on a learning curve, but at 5/1 an each way bet for me.

They all have to beat Billesdon Brook this evening which has seen Hannon book Ryan Moore for the job, with three placed runs she should really be winning this contest, but she is also vulnerable to a couple of interesting newcomers none other than Sir Mark Prescott’s Frolic who is by the sire Dutch Art and have a prolific record around Kempton with debutante’s.

IT’S NOT UNUSUAL : 1pt each way @ 5/1 (BOG)

Wimbledon Day 3 – Single’s Preview – Day three sees both Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal return to action, after both came through their first-round ties unscathed. Day One however saw the first major casualty of the competition, with world number three Stan Wawrinka beaten in four sets by Russian Daniil Medvedev.

here’s a look at the best action to come from Wimbledon on day three.

Andy Murray V Dustin Brown

Reigning champion Murray soared through his first-round clash with Alexandr Bublik in straight sets. The Scot defeated his Russian counterpart 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to seal a place in the second round.

His opponent Brown came through his tie with Joao Sousa in four sets, eventually winning 3-6,7-6 ,6-4, 6-4. The German is looking to reach the first round for only the third time in his Wimbledon career, and went out at this stage of the competition last year.

Murray gave a convincing performance, albeit against inferior opposition, brushing away any doubts about his fitness and recent performances. He looks at home on Wimbledon’s grass courts, and anything but progression to the third round would be a major shock.

SKYBET: MURRAY TO WIN- 1/14

SKYBET: BROWN TO WIN- 7/1

SKYBET: MURRAY TO WIN 3-1(SET BETTING)- 14/5

SKYBET: BROWN TO WIN 3-2(SET BETTING)- 20/1

Rafael Nadal V Donald Young

Similar to Murray, Nadal raced through his opening match, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. As expected the Spaniard dispatched of Millman with ease, again underlining his current scintillating form.

Despite losing the first set, Young came back to beat Denis Istomin in four sets, recovering to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 4-2. At 4-2 in the fourth set Istomin retired, paving the way for Young to play the world number two.

Young has only made it past the first round on one previous occasion, last year. Given Nadal’s irrepressible momentum, it’s difficult to envisage the world number 43 to find himself in the third-round draw.

SKYBET: NADAL TO WIN- 1/20

SKYBET: YOUNG TO WIN- 9/1

SKYBET: NADAL TO WIN AND BOTH PLAYER TO WIN A SET- 15/8

SKYBET: TOTAL GAME (OVER 30.5)- EVENS

Venus Williams V Wang Qiang

In the absence of her sister Serena, Venus Williams is hoping to fly the family flag in to the third round of Wimbledon. She strolled in to the second-round having beat Elise Mertens in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.

Like her opponent, Qiang beat Chang Kai-Chen in straight sets, coming out on top 6-3, 6-4. She finds herself in the second round for the first time in her career, having never made it past the first round previously.

Having reached the semi-final of last year’s competition, Williams will be hoping to win her first Wimbledon title since 2008. The world number 11 finds herself in good form, having recently finished second in the Australian Open earlier in the year.

SKYBET: WILLIAMS TO WIN- 1/4

SKYBET: QIANG TO WIN- 3/1

SKYBET: WILLIAMS TO WIN 2-0(SET BETTING)- 4/6

SKYBET: TOTAL GAMES (UNDER 20.5)- 4/5

Horse Racing Preview - Newmarket - 3rd November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from two meetings with selections from Hamilton and Stratford.

Even though the each way advised treble came off, it was very frustrating to see the first two selections lose by short heads, it’s a good job we have Josephine Gordon riding at Hugo Palmer’s stable, as she definitely showed James Doyle how to punch out a winner.

14.00 Hamilton – BB Foodservice Novice Auction Stakes (6f)

Jedd O’Keeffe’s horses are flying at present hitting the back of the net with a current 42.33% strike rate and saddles here Armed Response who should be landing the opener. Two solid runs were rewarded last time out when winning over course and distance in good style, even though the ground has come up good to soft it should not inconvenience him being by Sepoy.

With Richard Fahey and Mark Johnston having more than one runner, it’s hard to assess what they actually have, on paper Fahey’s Tanaya probably ran best on debut when fourth at Carlisle, the heavy ground did not help the cause and more expected now.

ARMED RESPONSE : 3pts Win @ 6/4 (BOG)

16.00 Hamilton – Hamilton Park Supporting Racing Staff Week Handicap (0-75) (13.1f)

Hugo Palmer’s Wordsearch had fair form as a juvenile and takes his second transition run. He was last seen when finishing fifth at Lingfield, now enters handicap company for the first time and an eye-catching booking of Josephine Gordon who rode a positive winner last night for the trainer.

Davy’s Dilemma and Tor warrant respect especially the latter who gets the weight to turnaround his defeat to Michael Dods runner.

Wordsearch : 1pt each way @ 11/2 (BOG)

20.50 Stratford – Mike and Shirley Hewlett Golden Wedding Celebration Standard National Hunt Flat (Conditional Jockeys & Amateur Riders) (16.3f)

Gavin Cromwell’s Soleglad should take all the beating on debut here, the son of Scorpion is well related to a couple of useful hurdlers, market check to what expect from the Irish raider.

The Black Squirrel represents a yard that must be feared here in Warren Greatrex, who saddles his Craigsteel gelding. Has not shown much around the P2P circuit and an interesting small purchase.

Soleglad : 2pts win @ 9/4 (BOG)

Wimbledon Day 2 – Single’s Preview – Day two of Wimbledon sees bookies favourite Rodger Federer in action. The Swiss will be looking to secure his eighth London title, in what is guaranteed to be a fascinating competition.

Here is a breakdown of all the key action on day two of Wimbledon.

Roger Federer V Alexandr Dolgopolov

Now the world number five, Federer is preparing another launch to be Wimbledon champion. Now at the tender age of 35, Federer has shown his commitment to securing another title, after not taking part in the French Open or Queen’s club.

His opponent Dolgopolov has yet to beat Federer in their three previous meetings, the last coming in 2016. The Ukrainian hasn’t even won a set against the former world number one and there appears to be only one winner when the two meet again today.

SKYBET: FEDERER TO WIN- 1/66

SKYBET: DOLGOPOLOV TO WIN- 16/1

SKYBET: FEDERER TO WIN 3-0 (SET BETTING)- 2/7

SKYBET: TOTAL NUMBER OF SETS (4)- 16/5

Novak Djokovic V Martin Klizan

Despite having won three of the last six Wimbledon titles, very few are expecting the Serb to come out on top again this year. Djokovic hasn’t been in the best form, and has lost his world number one spot having previously held an 8,035-point lead over second place. He was beaten in the third round of last year’s tournament by Sam Querrey, but will be determined to give a better showing of himself this time around.

Klizan is ranked 47th in the world and met Djokovic this year in Mexico, losing out 6-3,7-6(4). The second set of this game underlined the sketchy form Djokovic finds himself in, and if Klizan is ever going to beat him, now might be the time.

SKYBET: DJOKOVIC TO WIN- 1/33

SKYBET: KLIZAN TO WIN- 12/1

SKYBET: DJOKOVIC TO WIN 3-1(SET BETTING)- 100/30

SKYBET: KLIZAN TO WIN 3-2(SET BETTING)- 33/1

Angelique Kerber V Irina Falconi

World number one Kerber will be looking for her first ever Wimbledon title. The German was beaten in straight sets in last year’s final, but will be hoping to go one step further this time around. Kerber hasn’t had the best of starts to 2017, going out in the fourth round of the Australian Open and the first round of the French Open.

Her opponent Falconi has never won a grand slam and has never made it past the first round of Wimbledon in her career. This game should be straight forward for Kerber as she looks to put the disappointment of the Roland-Garros behind her.

SKYBET: KERBER TO WIN- 1/8

SKYBET: FALCONI TO WIN- 5/1

SKYBET: KERBER TO WIN 2-0(SET BETTING)- 2/5

SKYBET: TOTAL GAMES (OVER 18.5)- 4/5

Wimbledon Day 1 - Men's Single's Preview

Wimbledon Day 1 – Men’s Preview – Wimbledon begins service with reigning Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, as he begins the defence of his title. The Scot will be hoping to regurgitate the form that saw him come away with the trophy last year, as he looks for his third Wimbledon triumph.

Here is a breakdown of all the key action to come on Wimbledon opening day.

Andy Murray V Alexander Bublik: Centre court – 13:00

The world number one takes on new comer Bublik in the round of 128, with very few predicting anything other than a win. Bublik who only turned professional three years ago, is making his first appearance in the main Wimbledon draw.

Anything other than a win for Murray would be catastrophic, despite his less than convincing recent form. The Scot’s undoubted class should shine through here, and with speculation regarding Murray’s fitness rumbling on, he’ll want the game done and dusted as quickly as possible.

SKYBET: MURRAY TO WIN- 1/33

SKYBET: BUBLIK TO WIN- 12/1

SKYBET: MURRAY TO WIN AND NOT HAVE HIS SERVE BROKEN- 11/8

SKYBET: MURRAY TO WIN 3-0(SET BETTING) AND WIN EACH SET 6-0,6-1 OR 6-2- 11/1

Rafael Nadal V John Millman: Court one – 14:15

Nadal takes on Australian Millman in the first round of Wimbledon, hoping to avoid an early exit. Millman, who was knocked out in the third round of last year’s competition by Andy Murray, comes in to the game as a huge underdog.

He could have hardly wished for a tougher draw. Nadal is in scintillating form, having picked up another French Open title, along with the Madrid Open. With Nadal in such breath-taking form, his eyes will be firmly set on winning his first London title since 2012.

SKYBET: NADAL TO WIN- 1/33

SKYBET: MILLMAN TO WIN- 12/1

SKYBET: NADAL TO WIN 3-0(SET BETTING) AND SERVE MOST ACES- 8/11

SKYBET: NADAL TO WIN 3-1(SET BETTING) AND SERVE MOST ACES- 9/2

Stan Wawrinka V Daniil Medvedev: Centre court, 15:45

World number three Wawrinka kicks off his Wimbledon campaign against the Russian Medvedev. The Swiss comes in to the game as huge favourite, having not gone out of a grand slam in the first round, since the French Open in 2014.

In stark contrast, his opponent has never made it past the second round of a grand slam in his career. Whilst Wawrinka isn’t renowned for his performances on grass, he should still have more than enough to see of Medvedev.

SKYBET: WAWRINKA TO WIN- 1/3

SKYBET: MEDVEDEV TO WIN- 5/2

SKYBET: WAWRINKA TO WIN AND OVER 37.5 GAMES- 6/4

SKYBET: MEDVEDEV TO WIN 3-2(SET BETTING)- 15/2

Horse Racing Preview - Ludlow - 26th October 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from two meetings with selections coming from Hamilton and Windsor. The most disappointing selection on Saturday was Midterm, again he has proven that he has either not trained on as a four-year-old, or the fact the horse has just lost interest. Considering he has only hit the frame on one occasion since winning last April is a concern, but they still persist to run him over 12f and even entered in the St Leger, I as a punter would like to see him dropped back to 10f on good ground, given some cover and let him stride out at his leisure.

19.30 Windsor – Strategic Proposals 30th Anniversary Handicap (0-85) (10f)

Hugo Palmer sending one runner to a meeting has to be taken on board, with one runner yesterday here at Windsor in Murad Khan obliging well at 8/1 with today’s booked jockey the Doyler. Their sole representative this evening is Anythingtoday.

James Doyle has ridden him twice, however, the selection has failed to impress when last of eight at Sandown on years re-appearance, but that was far superior competition with the third Century Dream franking that form at the weekend, the runner up First Nation was beaten by a very well handicapped Atty Persse at Royal Ascot, the third has run well again behind two good types, the fifth place ran well in the Group 2 King Edward V11 Stakes so there could be excuses.

I thought he improved from Sandown when fourth at Goodwood beaten just over a length in a good 0-90 handicap, now he does have to prove he stays this trip but with the way the yard is at present he should go extremely close. The only danger for me is Willie Muir’s Calvados Spirit who makes the step up to 12f for the first time. He was not beaten that far in a 0-90 handicap at Bath a couple of weeks ago and still looks well treated.

ANYTHINGTODAY : 2pts Win @ 7/2 (BOG)

20.15 Hamilton – Racing Uk Profits Returned To Racing Handicap (0-75) (11.1f)

Again, I have weighed in on the fact that Hugo Palmer has sent just the one entry to Scotland in Qaviy Cash. The son of Oasis Dream is not overly exposed when just touched off in a maiden on the all-weather at Kempton park recently and the fact he stays around this index on his handicap debut is interesting. A lenient mark of 75 is there to be exploited on what he has shown to date.

Main dangers look to come from brace winner Archies Affaire and Powerful Love who come from two strong stables especially the latter being from Mark Johnston’s. Powerful Love finished just under three lengths behind the smart Solo Mission at Carlisle and will get the aid of the blinkers once more. Archies Affaire has notched up a brace of wins at Carlisle and over 9.1f here at Hamilton two runs back. With both recent winners subject to penalties this is a good opportunity for Hugo Palmers least exposed Qaviy Cash to land the spoils.

QAVIY CASH : 2pt Win @ 5/2 (BOG)

20.00 Windsor – Windsor Racecourse Supporting Racing Staff Week Maiden Stakes (8.1f)

The value of the race looks to come from Jeremy Noseda’s Scat Daddy off spring Jus Pires, with the sire having a cracking season already, I would like to think Jus Pires can leave his debut run behind when finishing seventh at Newmarket, despite the winner Music Seeker being beaten recently at Doncaster he was only three parts of a length behind a horse called Auberge Du Lac who won a 0-105 valuable handicap at Yarmouth at the weekend when beating To Dibba.

Main dangers, Roger Varian and De Sousa team up with Asaas who shaped well on seasons re-appearance at Lingfield when behind Sporting Times. His two turf runs at Newmarket and Newbury as a juvenile were solid enough when behind the likes of Ronald R, one other to consider is Clive Cox’s filly Unified who ran well against her own sex finishing fourth in what is looking a strong maiden.

JUS PIRES : 1pt each way @ 11/2 (BOG)

***I will also suggest an each way treble on all three selections, as they look solid enough to be on the premises on merit***

Best of luck, Gamble Responsibly

Chile vs Germany - Match Preview
Confederations Cup, Final
Krestovskyi Stadium, Russia 7pm

Chile vs Germany – Match Preview – The Confederations Cup concludes in a show-piece final at the Krestovsky Stadium, St Petersburg as World Champions Germany face Copa America victors Chile in the quest for further international silverware.

Both sides have become accustomed to success on the international stage in recent years; Germany having won the 2014 World Cup and only losing in Euro 2016 to runners-up and hosts France. Whilst Chile have won the last two Copa Americas, in 2015 and 2016. With success now ingrained into their very nature, anything less than victory will be a massive disappointment for either country.

On reflection this is a fair final match-up. Arguably the two form teams in world football, overall Germany and Chile have been the two strongest teams throughout the competition, neither suffering a loss at any stage so far.
In fact, the only match Germany have failed to win in the tournament was an entertaining 1-1 draw with Chile, where Alexis Sanchez became his national team’s all-time record goal-scorer with a 6th minute strike before Lars Stindl equalised before the break.

Germany comfortably defeated Mexico in the Semi Finals 4-1 Photo Credit: skysports.com

Germany comfortably topped Group B with 3-2 and 3-1 victories over Australia and Cameroon respectively either side of the aforementioned draw with Chile.
A semi-final against Group A runners-up Mexico was the prize and there Joachim Low’s men truly turned on the style, clinically punishing El Tri in a 4-1 thrashing where Schalke playmaker Leon Goretzka played superbly – scoring twice.

It very much seems like a German player will win the Golden Boot too, Lars Stindl and Timo Werner (Werner ahead with one assist compared to Stindl’s none) are both currently on three goals with Goretzka on two whilst the only other player in the tournament who has scored more than once is Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now knocked out and home.

Chile’s path to the final was a tad more strenuous, leaving it late to beat Cameroon 2-0 with both goals coming in the final 10 minutes. Two unconvincing 1-1 draws against Germany and Australia followed, but 2nd place in Group B was deservedly La Roja’s.

Chile defeated Portugal on penalties to reach the final Photo Credit: skysports.com

Juan Antonio Pizzi’s team were excellent again in the semi-final against Portugal; containing Ronaldo and nullifying the Selecao threat while creating several great opportunities themselves. Arturo Vidal hitting the post and a clear-cut penalty not being given took the match to penalties – where Claudio Bravo saved all 3 of the Portuguese penalties he faced to become national hero for the night and take his side just one step away from glory.

Germany’s most effective periods in matches have been when they have dictated play and dominated in the midfield areas, however the aggressive threat of Chile’s work-rate and press will be a different prospect to the side they faced in the group stage and any other side in the competition.
Chile attack fast and incisively and with a player like Alexis Sanchez in their ranks are always a threat when driving at space.

Germany come into the match as favourites, as they have done all throughout the tournament, but an unquestionably intriguing match-up between contrasting styles is promised. Whilst the game itself is expected to be tense and perhaps not the goal-fest all fans crave, tactical ingenuity will be evident and it could well come down to passion and desire, qualities very much synonymous with Chilean football. Could La Roja cause a major upset and win a third international trophy in as many years?

Whatever happens, there will be a new name on the Confederations Cup trophy as neither side has won this crown previously. Both sides will be desperate to exert their international dominance and claim the trophy.

Team News
There are no fresh injury concerns from the previous matches for either Germany or Chile.

Kimmich has been in great form for both club and country Photo Credit: skysports.com

Players to Watch
Joshua Kimmich is one of the most effective and versatile footballers in world football. Since his move to Bayern Munich in 2015 the 22-year-old has been deployed in central midfield, right-back, and centre-back to pronounced effect for both club and country. He is a complete team player and reads the game with an intelligence beyond his years. Composed on the ball with wonderful distribution and a great eye for a killer pass, Kimmich is as skilled going forward as he is defensively. He will undoubtedly be a key player not only in this final, but for Bayern Munich and Germany for many years to come.

Tireless midfielder Vidal will be key to Chile’s success Photo Credit: skysports.com

Kimmich’s club teammate Arturo Vidal is one of the first names on any team-sheet. The all-action midfielder is adept at all facets of the beautiful game, be it a powerful tackle or a shot from distance, or a deft pass behind the defence he is the complete footballer. Named in the Copa America Team of the Tournament for both of Chile’s successes, and with a host of both team and personal accolades throughout his illustrious career, the 30-year-old is no stranger to the big occasion and at his best is more than capable of winning this final single-handedly.

Potential line-ups:
Chile: Claudio Bravo; Mauricio Isla, Gary Medel, Gonzalo Jara, Jean Beausejour; Pablo Hernandez, Marcelo Diaz, Charles Aranguiz, Arturo Vidal; Eduardo Vargas, Alexis Sanchez

Germany: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen; Matthias Ginter, Antonio Rudiger, Niklas Sule; Joshua Kimmich, Sebastian Rudy, Leon Goretzka, Jonas Hector; Lars Stindl, Julian Draxler; Timo Werner
