New Zealand Maori v British & Irish Lions - Match Preview
17th June 2017 – Roturua International Stadium, Roturua 8.35am

New Zealand Maori v British & Irish Lions – Match Preview – The British and Irish Lions will play the fifth match of their 2017 New Zealand Tour against the Maori All Blacks at the Roturua International Stadium, Roturua. Warren Gatland will be hoping his side can avenge the nail-biting 23-22 loss against The Highlanders in their last outing. The Maori All Blacks are not to be taken lightly by the Lions, who only have one more week until the first test match against New Zealand.

Matches such as this can see players lose their spot in the starting squad come the first test match, and the British outfit have already confirmed that the starting XV will be the ‘closest selection yet to the test side yet’.

Welsh Flanker, Sam Warburton, is unlikely to make the squad for the match this Saturday following an ankle injury along with English second row, Courtney Lawes, who took a nasty blow to his head attempting to make a try saving tackle in the recent loss to the Highlanders, could his Tour be over?

Outside centre, Jonathan Joseph, has turned plenty of heads on the Tour so far, proving his defensive value with some concrete tackling as well as some great direct running and line breaks in attack. He is being rested this match and replaced by fellow England team-mate, Ben Te’o, in the centre, however many expect Joseph to start in the first test next week.

Another Lions centre option, Jonathan Davies, returns to the starting XV having only re-joined training on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lions completed 129 total runs in the last match, covering 399 metres; a statistic the Lions coaching team will look to improve for this match against the Maori’s. The Lions will also look to continue improving on their set pieces with the scrum being the big question ahead of this match. Attacking coach, Rob Howley’s, ideology of trying to produce ‘rugby chaos’ with unstructured plays is yet to have an impact but could become more noticeable this time around. Can the Lions grab victory in the ‘unofficial fourth test of the tour’?

Skybet Match Result – British and Irish Lions to Win – 8/15

Struggling for consistency, the time for dabbling with his squad is nearing the end for Gatland who worries that the physicality of the Maori All Blacks could prove a big threat. Maori All Blacks head coach, Colin Cooper, has an experienced squad with three new debutants to choose from; Rob Thompson and halfbacks Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi and Bryn Hall. Can these help the Maori All Blacks cause a huge upset for the Lions following their defeat to the Highlanders?

Summer Transfer Rumours - Diego Costa

Chelsea’s first choice striker, Diego Costa, seems to be out the door this summer, having joined the London club in 2014 from Atletico Madrid. After 89 games for Chelsea, the striker has become a clear favourite showcasing a unique set of skills during his time at Stamford Bridge. Often referred to as a bully, Costa’s sheer brute force and strength makes him the ideal target man for many clubs. The once-Brazilian now-Spanish player was reportedly dumped by Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, over text message hence all the transfer commotion.

Diego Costa made headlines back in the January transfer window, being heavily linked with a move to the Chinese super league for an astronomical weekly wage; understandably, he was tempted. The temperamental striker then fell out with the club and trained on his own for a few days until they patched it all up and he went back to scoring goals. Now making more headlines, here are some of the odds that SkyBet are offering on Diego Costa’s future come September 3rd 2017:

AC Milan- 11/8

Italian giants, AC Milan, have been chasing the Chelsea star ever since the transfer saga began. Costa’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is hoping Chelsea get another offer from San Siro after the London club rejected the first. However, it is reported the player wishes for a return to Atletico Madrid but following the news of Antione Griezmann probably remaining at Atletico, that is now seeming less likely. The player hasn’t expressed much desire for a move to Italy, but maybe the bookmakers think differently.

Any Chinese Club- 6/4

After the drama of the January transfer window, Diego Costa was obviously going to be linked back with a move to China. Diego doesn’t have a history of illustrating the best morale’s, after changing nationalty from Brazil to Spain as it appeared easier for him to get into the starting eleven. It would be a shame to see a player of Costa’s calibre leave for China but he has demonstrated before how tempted he was by the big wages over there. Will he follow old Chelsea team-mate, Oscar, over to China?

To Stay at Chelsea- 9/2

With the stories that the newspapers are reporting, this is seeming implausible. With Chelsea hunting down Everton star, Romelu Lukaku, it seems Diego Costa is being pushed out of Stamford bridge with a lot of Chelsea fans coming to terms with the loss. His sour relationship with Antonio Conte also doesn’t give this much hope, however could they mend their differences as they did back in January?

SkyBet are also offering odds on Costa to move to:

Borussia Dortmund- 9/1

PSG-12/1

Arsenal- 18/1

Juventus- 18/1

Manchester United- 18/1

Any MLS Club- 20/1

Bayern Munich- 33/1

Inter Milan- 33/1

Real Madrid- 33/1

Summer Transfer Rumours - Alexis Sanchez

Chilean attacker, Alexis Sanchez, is surrounded by plenty of rumours suggesting he will be leaving Premier League club, Arsenal, this summer. The striker has illustrated his World class talents throughout the season, often spearheading the Arsenal attack and ended the season as the clubs’ highest league goal scorer; with 24 goals and 10 assists.

Undoubtedly Arsenal’s most valuable asset, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, will have a tough time trying to fend off clubs for the Chilean’s signature. At times this season, the 28-year-old was a picture of frustration as he would often find his teammates under performing in many Premier League matches. With all the transfer speculation, here are some of the odds that SkyBet are offering for Alexis Sanchez’ future come September 3rd 2017:

Manchester City- 10/11

According to the Daily Express, Pep Guardiola is preparing a bid for the Arsenal star around the figure of £53 million. Manchester City would benefit hugely from this signing, as it seems Guardiola is building something rather special at the club. Alexis Sanchez would fit into the system at the Etihad, surrounded by players such as Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus. Also, Pep used to manage Alexis back at Barcelona which would only make the two feel more comfortable about the transfer. But will Arsenal sell their best player to a direct rival?

Bayern Munich- 9/4

Bayern Munich haven’t been subtle in their interest of the Arsenal star. It has been reported that international teammate of Sanchez, Arturo Vidal, has been trying to persuade Alexis to move to Bayern Munich. The German giants could profit from attaining the Chilean, with both their legendary wingers, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, nearing their retirement. Few people know what Alexis wants as his next move, but Bayern could be too tempting an offer to turn down.

To Stay at Arsenal- 11/4

It’s what every Gooner will be dreaming for this summer. Alexis Sanchez has been without a doubt Arsenal’s best player this season but with only one year left on his contract, Arsene Wenger will have to do something to keep Sanchez at the club. After a disappointing season, Arsenal haven’t qualified for the Champions League which could be a key factor that could see Sanchez wave goodbye to the Emirates. Europe’s biggest clubs all have their eye on the Chilean but will he remain loyal to North London?

SkyBet are also offering odds on Sanchez to move to:

Chelsea- 15/2

Juventus- 33/1

Manchester United-33/1

PSG- 33/1

Liverpool- 40/1

Summer Transfer Rumours - Ross Barkley

Everton midfielder, Ross Barkley, is rumoured to be leaving the club this summer transfer window. The Englishman is unsettled at the Merseyside club having been there since his youth career in 2005. Barkley has made a total of 150 appearances for Everton, having scored 21 goals in those matches. His extremely direct form of attacking and his ability to bring others into play has brought the attention from many clubs and Everton manager, Ronald Koeman, hasn’t been shy when shopping for possible replacements.

Everton are not willing to let the England international run out his contract at Goodison Park and have slapped a price tag on the youngster in the field of £50 million. With his departure from Everton in the balance, here are some odd the odds SkyBet are offering on Barkley’s future come September 3rd 2017:

To Stay at Everton- 7/4

There is no doubt that Ross Barkley is loved by the Everton fans and staff. His lethal partnership with striker, Romelu Lukaku, was a major key in Everton’s high league positions in the past few seasons. The player hasn’t expressed a desire to leave and with that reported price tag of £50 million, it may see the attacking midfielder remain in Merseyside as a lot would agree that’s a hefty price for what you’re getting. With the papers stating Barkley is all but gone at Everton, could the bookmakers know something others don’t?

Tottenham- 2/1

Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has a dazzling array of attacking players in his squad; a group of players that are very similar to Ross Barkley. The interest from Spurs is hard to figure out if it is to strengthen or replace, with interest on a few of their own attacking players being rumoured. With Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Erik Lamela, it’s hard to see Barkley being a first team regular if he was brought in to strengthen. However, the club itself would be a good fit as they love to promote young talent and compete at a higher level than Everton.

West Ham- 4/1

West Ham manager, Slaven Bilic, is looking to improve his squad after a very poor 2016/17 campaign in the Premier League. After struggling to utilise players such as Andre Ayew and Manuel Lanzini consistently, an arrival such as Ross Barkley could only help bolster their attack. This potential signing would be very welcomed by the fans and could be a good fit but the main issue is that West Ham isn’t really a step up in class from Everton, if anything it’s a slight step down. Potentially a great idea but maybe not realistic.

SkyBet are also offering odds on Barkley to move to:

Manchester United- 6/1

Arsenal- 10/1

Chelsea- 18/1

Manchester City- 18/1

Juventus- 20/1

Newcastle- 25/1

Sweden U21's vs England U21's - Match Preview
UEFA U21 European Championships, Group A, Kielce City Stadium, Poland 5pm

Sweden U21’s vs England U21’s – Match Preview – Aidy Boothroyd’s side face their first test at the Under 21’s European Championship on Friday 16th June against Sweden in Group A. The Under 21’s will look to replicate the success of the England Under 20’s side out in South Korea, who just won the World Cup this past Sunday. Faces such as Tammy Abraham, Jack Grealish and Demarai Gray have all flown out to Poland and will be crucial if England are to succeed in the tournament. England are favourites for their opening match, and should be too much for the Sweden side.

Sweden will look to avenge the last time these two met in the previous Euro’s in 2015; where they lost 1-0 to a late Jesse Lingard goal. They will also be looking to improve their recent form, having lost in a friendly last week to Denmark Under 21’s, 2-0. Striker, Pawel Cibicki, will be Sweden’s best hope for a goal against England in the opening match but could provide an upset with dangerous attackers such as Gustav Engavall and Sunderland player, Joel Asoro, also causing potential problems for the Three Lions. Cibicki plays his club football for Malmo FF in the Swedish league and is often a tricky player for opposition defenders with his quick feet and pace. Can he help his side cause an upset?

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Pawel Cibicki to score Anytime in 90 mins – 5/2

England will feel confident entering the match that they can kickstart a successful campaign with a win. Centre-back options, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Alfie Mawson, will all be key to England’s campaign as they will aim to lead a strong defensive line to allow the creative England attack to prosper. Holding had a phenomenal end to the season with Arsenal, winning the FA Cup but also showcasing his talent and illustrating how he will be an important figure for the North London club in the future. Can these three help England to keep a clean sheet in their opening match?

Team News

Aidy Boothroyd has no injury worries for the opening game and will look to his strike force to cement the first three points.

Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham, will be pivotal to the England attack following an impressive season on loan at Bristol City.

Sweden also have no injuries to alter team selection.

Defender, Linus Wahlqvist, has become a regular in the under 21’s side, can he help his side pull off an unexpected victory?

Suggested Tips:

Summer Transfer Rumours - Riyad Mahrez

The 2015/16 PFA Player of the year, Riyad Mahrez, is linked with a move away from the King Power stadium this summer. The Algerian was incredible in the 2015/16 season for Leicester City and conjured up an unstoppable rapport with striker, Jamie Vardy, that was the main catalyst for Leicester’s astonishing Premier League success. After an expected downfall the following season, Mahrez has struggled to rise to the perplexing heights he illustrated the season before.

With plenty of clubs acknowledging the dip in form this season, the price tag for the 26-year-old has dipped accordingly. All the speculation for the Foxes winger is making headlines daily, here are some of the odds SkyBet are offering on Riyad Mahrez’ future come September 3rd 2017:

Arsenal- 5/4

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, needs to regain the backing from a lot of the fans with a positive transfer window. With key players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil linked with transfers away from the Emirates, it could spell an opening for Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian’s direct attacking style would be welcomed at Arsenal and would surely be a good addition to an already impressive squad. Now with experience in the Champions League with Leicester, Mahrez could be an important figure in Arsenal’s Europa League campaign.

Monaco- 5/2

The Ligue 1 champions will be expecting a pretty busy transfer window with plenty of departures and arrivals. After a season of overperforming, their extremely young squad are all being eyed up by Europe’s elite, which will mean Monaco will need replacements for attackers such as Bernardo Silva and Kylian Mbappe; if he were to leave. Riyad Mahrez would probably find Monaco a good fit, having moved from the French League a few years back and being French speaking also helps. Leicester may also not want to sell him to a league rival, so could Mahrez be on his way out the UK?

To Stay at Leicester- 3/1

Craig Shakespeare is aware he will struggle to keep hold of his star winger. He hasn’t ruled out staying at Leicester City, but it is widely assumed that the interest from the big clubs is enough to lure him away from the Midlands. Last month, Mahrez released a statement expressing his desire to gain a new experience in football and that him and the club are on the same page. With Leicester showing interest in other attackers such as Gylfi Sigurdsson, could he be out the door for sure?

SkyBet are also offering odds on Mahrez to move to:

Chelsea- 7/1

PSG- 10/1

Juventus- 12/1

Liverpool- 14/1

Tottenham- 16/1

Manchester United- 18/1

Marseille- 25/1

Everton- 33/1

West Ham- 33/1

Summer Transfer Rumours - Ben Gibson

English centre-back, Ben Gibson, was one of the only shining stars to come out of Middlesbrough’s poor 2016/17 campaign. The defender showcased his leadership skills and brute force in a tackle throughout the season and led a defensive line that wasn’t easy to crack down. Middlesbrough’s number six has attracted a lot of attention and even got his first national call-up last season due to his impressive form at club level.

New Middlesbrough manager, Garry Monk, will struggle to keep a hold of the centre-back, who is yet to commit his future to the EFL Championship side. With a lot of pressure now on the shoulders of the 24-year-old, it will be interesting to see where he ends up. With all the speculation, here are some of the odds that SkyBet are offering for Ben Gibson’s future come September 3rd 2017:

To Stay at Middlesbrough- 5/4

Gibson has been at Middlesbrough since 2005, starting his youth career in Tyneside. He broke into the first team in 2010, however was loaned out to an aray of Football League clubs and then became a regular first team player in 2014. It’s clear Gibson has a strong emotional connection to the club, a factor that could see the Englishman be loyal to his boyhood side. However, with attraction from top Premier League clubs and keeping in mind Middlesbrough’s recent relegation from the same league, it could be the right decision for his career to progress if he was to leave. Only time will tell.

Chelsea- 7/2

With the departure of John Terry and possibly Frenchman, Kurt Zouma, in defence, Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, will be searching for replacements. Gibson impressed last season and has caught the eye of the scouts at Stamford Bridge. The move to the Premier League champions is tempting for any player, but could see Gibson spend a lot of time on the bench; something that is vital for him to avoid whilst he is still improving as a player.

Liverpool- 6/1

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Ben Gibson may be top of his wish list following the downfall of the Virgil Van Dijk talks. Liverpool have failed to mould a strong defensive line for a few seasons now; being constantly haunted with defensive blunders that cost them dearly. A signing such as Ben Gibson could be a breath of fresh air at Anfield; with his future being tipped as a regular international. Champions League football could also be an enticing factor for Gibson as well as working with a character such as Jurgen Klopp.

SkyBet are also offering odds on Gibson to move to:

Tottenham- 6/1

Leicester- 8/1

West Brom- 8/1

Arsenal- 16/1

Everton- 16/1

Manchester City- 25/1

Newcastle- 25/1

Manchester United- 33/1

Horse Racing Preview - Newbury - 9th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from three meetings, Haydock, Newbury and Leopardstown. Well another brace of winners yesterday, may it continue with a busy nine days ahead.

Over the coming weekend, I will be putting forward my top four horses to follow for Royal Ascot, along with two selections per day.

13.30 Newbury  – Be Wiser Insurance Novice Stakes (6.5f)

I was actually struggling to pinpoint one in this race as I do like both Being There and Rogue who are representing two good yards around this sphere.

I have opted for Being There of Charlie Appleby’s whose juveniles are very forward at present. He was a 1.4m yearling and is beautifully bred by Dubawi through the bloodline of French 1000gns winner Beauty Parlour who also finished runner up in the Prix de Diane in her career.

The dam-sire was non other than Deep Impact who was a prolific Group 1 winner in Japan which included wins such as the Japan Cup on his resume. I would be disappointed to see him lose on debut with this kind of pedigree.

Reasons into why I chose him over Rogue is the fact he finished fourth to subsequent winners, even though that form is unknown quality he does have a course and distance run under his belt, but I was not convinced this trip would suit.

Being There : 3pt win @ 11/8 (BOG)

14.30 Newbury  – Crossland EBF Stallions Maiden Fillies Stakes (8f)

Once more I have elected to stick with Michael Bells entry here Shimmering Light. She could give sire Dubawi an excellent afternoon, being related to quite a few winners and juveniles she has the quality for me to run well on debut, very eye catching booking of Ryan Moore.

John Gosden’s Standing Rock is closely related to the smart Reckoning, a yard that tend to have done well early doors with their juveniles, but on this occasion, she has come up against a potentially nice selection.

Shimmering Light : 1.5pt win @ 9/2 (BOG)

18.05 Haydock – racinguk.com/freetrial Haydock Apprentice Training Series Handicap (0-70) (11.6f)

The top two at the head of the market look the ones to concentrate on here. Lugano has hit a brace of wins on the all-weather at Wolverhampton and Newcastle, even though he won comfortably at Wolverhampton on years re-appearance in this grade, he comes into this off an official mark of 75 in a 0-70 handicap, could be still improving.

Zenafire won on heavy ground on his return from a success over hurdles, this is a drop in class after his rout win over 14f here last week. Comes here with a 6lb penalty, but just might find Prescott’s entry a bit too good.

Lugano : 3pt win @ 15/8 (BOG)

19.20 Leopardstown  – Oliver Brady Memorial Shabra Charity Ballycorus Stakes (Group 3) (7f)

Two northern trainers go head to head here in Fahey and David O’Meara with Don’t Touch and Firmament. It’s the former I am more interested in but it is a shame I will have to rely on Tony Hamilton riding out.

Don’t Touch was last seen on these shores when finishing fifth in the Group 2 Greenlands Stakes last year, but he did himself justice I thought with only two lengths separating the top five finishers.

This year they are taking a bold bid now stepping him up in trip, and this looks a prep run for the forth coming July Cup next month. Now he must be in good heart as they bring him into pattern company over a listed event at Salisbury on Monday week.

O’Meara is attempting to make a race of it when he saddles Firmament, runner up at York in a 0-110 handicap last month over this trip was ok, but both of his wins have come over a mile, so he just might not have the speed to go with Don’t Touch, however he does stay further and Don’t Touch steps into very unknown territory.

Don’t Touch : 2pt win @ 5/2 (BOG)
