Watford vs West Ham United - Match Preview

Watford vs West Ham United – Match Preview – New West Ham boss David Moyes takes his side to Vicarage Road as they face an in-form Watford side.

This week has seen mounting speculation over the future of Watford boss Marco Silva. After impressing at Hull City last season, Silva has again shone following Watford’s impressive start to the new season. With Everton having a reported approach turned down already, all eyes are on whether they will go back in once more. Silva would certainly fit the mould at Goodison and has so far dealt with every task thrown at him, making him a logical candidate for the job. Even without Silva’s managerial input, Watford have been impressive this season in the league. The Hornets currently sit ninth, just four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool.

Richarlison is attracting other clubs with his performances for Watford Photo Credit: skysports.com

The attacking style of play that Silva has coached has breathed a new lease of life into a number of players, not least of all Tom Cleverly. After a hit and miss time at Everton, the former Manchester United midfielder joined Watford in the summer and has been an integral part of their season to date. Despite only joining in the summer, Cleverly has captained the team on numerous occasions this campaign, highlighting the confidence that Silva has in him. Another star performer has been summer signing Richarlison. Only three months since joining the club for £12million, it is reported that several of the Premier League big hitters are eyeing up the Brazilian.

West Ham on the other foot are a club in disarray. After dismissing Slaven Bilic last week, the club have turned to Moyes until the end of the season. This is the Scotsman’s first job since leaving Sunderland last year following their relegation to the Championship. With many fans uninspired by their new appointment, Moyes needs a good result as soon as possible. The club currently sit in the relegation zone but are only one point behind fourth-bottom Bournemouth. There is no doubting the quality within the Hammers’ squad and if Moyes can unlock that potential and find the right balance, there’s no reason why they can’t shoot up the table.

Can David Moyes turn West Ham’s fortunes around? Photo Credit: skysports.com

I can only see goals coming in this game. Only the top six clubs have scored more goals than Watford this season (17), whilst West Ham have the leakiest defence in the whole division, conceding 23 goals in just 11 games. If Moyes is to sort this side out, it’s the defence that needs work. With experienced professionals such as Winston Reid and Jose Fonte, the club should not be as poor defensively as they are. With the way the two clubs are at the moment, I can only see one winner on Sunday. This could very well turn out to be the shock result of the weekend, but personally, I can’t see it happening.

Prediction: Watford 2-0 West Ham

SKYBET: WATFORD TO WIN 2-0- 17/2

SKYBET: RICHARLISON TO SCORE FIRST AND WATFORD TO WIN 3-1- 50/1

SKYBET: WATFORD TO WIN TO NIL- 5/2

SKYBET: HERNANDEZ TO SCORE AND WEST HAM TO WIN- 4/1

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview – The Premier League returns with a bang this weekend as Tottenham travel to Arsenal in the North London Derby.

Arsenal come into this match four points behind their rivals and 12 behind league leaders Manchester City. With Arsenal so far adrift from the top already, it looks as if they’ll have yet another tough season of battling for a place in the Champions League. Under Arsene Wenger, there is no doubt that the club has gone stale, with new blood needed to reinvigorate this underachieving club. With the club being run as a business, as long as they’re making money, majority shareholder Stan Kroenke is reluctant to bring in a new lease of life at the helm.

Lacazette should start after scoring twice in midweek for France Photo Credit: skysports.com

Arsenal forward, Alexandre Lacazette, grabbed himself a brace in midweek as France drew 2-2 with World Champions Germany. The forward scored two goals in his last three games before the international break and this double will have only helped improve his confidence. With Wenger heavily criticised for leaving the former Lyon striker on the bench in their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, I fully expect him to lead the line on Saturday.

Tottenham are expecting to welcome back Dele Alli and Harry Kane back from injury ahead of their trip across the capital. Both players missed England’s friendlies against Germany and Brazil but are both expected to be fit for this game. Kane has scored six goals in six Premier League appearances against Arsenal including netting in the last five consecutive meetings. With the Englishman in such fine form again this season, few would bet against him adding to that total.

Kane has a fantastic record against Arsenal, scoring in his last 5 games against them Photo Credit: skysports.com

Mauricio Pochettino is yet to taste defeat against Arsenal in six league meetings with the club. The last three matches at the Emirates have all finished 1-1 and this unbeaten run makes him the only full-time Spurs manager to have managed more than one North London derby in the Premier League and remain unbeaten. The Argentinian has a 33% win percentage against Arsenal, with only Harry Redknapp (37%) above him.

Arsenal haven’t won in the league against Tottenham since 2014. That stat underlines how good a job Pochettino has done in transforming this Spurs side, with both clubs seemingly heading in opposite directions. Those last six matches have yielded 15 goals, averaging at exactly 2.5 a game. Whilst Spurs have been solid at remaining unbeaten, they still haven’t won at the Emirates since 2010. With the last three Emirates meetings finishing 1-1, I could see a similar outcome again. Given the attacking power both sides have, I think BTTS would be my safest bet.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Spurs

Preston North End vs Bolton - Match Preview

Preston North End vs Bolton – Match Preview – The international break signifies its end with a return to club football action as Preston North End attempt to get out of their rotten slump with a game at Deepdale against a Bolton Wanderers side with a new lease of life.

Completely uncharacteristically for teams in The Championship, generally as things stand these two sides have had rather predictable seasons. Preston are a decent, if unspectacular side and Bolton have struggled upon gaining promotion from League One last term.

However, despite a large gap between the two teams in the table, the form table makes for an otherwise surprising viewing – Preston, who had only lost one of their opening 11 Championship matches, have now lost the last four in a row and have sunk into the bottom half, in 14th position.

Barkhuizen has scored three goals so far for Preston Photo Credit: skysports.com

This run of form is a far cry from what inspired manager Alex Neil, who came in at the beginning of the campaign, to state (at the end of October) that promotion is an achievable goal for his club this year.

In contrasting fortunes, recently, Phil Parkinson’s Bolton have recovered from their woeful start back to life in England’s second-tier and unbeaten in their last five games – a 2-1 victory over Norwich City just before the international break took The Trotters off the foot of the table.

Madine has scored 4 goals for Bolton so far this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

To put it into context, Bolton had not won a single game in their first 11, losing a massive nine of those in the process. Two wins from the next five have seen a real turnaround and the former Premier League team are now just two points away from exiting the relegation zone and have the momentum to continue the push up the table.

Due to The Lilywhite’s poor form, and Bolton’s own struggles this season both sides can and will view this game as an ideal opportunity to secure some vital points.

Rep Ire vs Denmark - Match Preview

Rep Ire vs Denmark – Match Preview – It’s all still to play for between Ireland and Denmark as they face off in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier second leg this Tuesday night.

An action packed first leg with over 20 attempts on goal resulted in a rather entertaining bore draw. Both sides came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock however their efforts weren’t enough.

Martin O’Neill’s men now have the home advantage for the second leg which could become a crucial factor, given the Irish nature. 90 minutes of bellowing renditions of ‘The soldiers’ song’ and ‘The boys in green’ will create an atmosphere to remember for all who attend.

Can Murphy fire the Irish into the World Cup Photo Credit: skysports.com

Both sides suffered no setbacks in terms of injury or suspension in the first leg which will see both nations surely line up in their full-strength sides. Tottenham attacker, Christian Eriksen, was a huge threat to the Irish defence and was often the catalyst for the Spurs attack. This should be no different on Irish soil.

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Christian Eriksen to Score Anytime in 90 mins – 3/1

James McClean, who scored the all-important goal in Cardiff to get Ireland to the play-offs, is also sure to feature for his nation. The West Brom winger has pace to burn and a mean left foot that could pose trouble for Kasper Schmeical in the Danish net.

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – James McClean to Score Anytime in 90 mins – 3/1

Ireland have gone from strength to strength since their UEFA EURO 2016 campaign, becoming a much more solid unit from the back. Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Shane Duffy, has become the stand out figure in the defence, with his hardman persona and leadership qualities, he has become indispensable to the Irish defence. Moving up the formation, Jeff Hendrick has also become a key figure in the Irish attack. His relentless energy through the midfield and his ability to spot a pass has become a valuable asset.

Skybet Match Result – Ireland to Win – 19/10

The Danish squad is full of talents who play their club football all over Europe. They scored 20 goals in their 10-qualification group matches and only conceded eight goals; proving they are both clinical in attack and solid at the back. Celta Vigo winger, Pione Sisto, has grown into a key figure in the Danish attack in a matter of months. Can the Danes upset the Irish party?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Denmark to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 9/4

England vs Brazil - Friendly - Match Preview

England vs Brazil – Friendly – Match Preview – England will be hoping for another positive result when they host Brazil at Wembley. Gareth Southgate’s much-changed team will be looking to grab a win following their 0-0 draw with Germany on Friday.

After an encouraging display last time out, England will look to push on with another good display. Southgate’s young lions put in a dogged display against the World Champions, with a number of players putting in good performances. Ruben Loftus-Cheek was awarded man of the match and the Chelsea loanee will have put himself at the forefront of Southgate’s mind ahead of next year’s World Cup. Alongside Loftus-Cheek, Jordan Pickford stood out, twice preventing Timo Werner from opening the scoring in impressive fashion.

Joe Gomez and Tammy Abraham also both made their full debuts, with Abraham coming closest to scoring for the home side. Whilst both didn’t really do a lot wrong, I think it’ll be tough for them to force a way into the 23-man squad when everyone’s fit. Southgate started the game with a back three, a formation that the Englishman has favoured in recent games.

If England are going to be successful this summer and beyond, I think it’s a system they need to stick with. With a full complement of players, the system suits the players available best. It allows Dele Alli to get closer to Harry Kane from a central area and allows the likes of Adam Lallana, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling the space to create chances.

Brazil’s front three will be a handful for the England defence Photo Credit: skyports.com

Brazil come into this match off the back of a 3-1 win against Japan. Gabriel Jesus continued his fine run of form with the third and final goal, his 12th strike of the season. With an array of attacking talent including Phillipe Coutinho, Willian and the world’s most expensive player, Neymar, it’ll be a stern test for England’s rear-guard.

England have a good record in recent years against Brazil, losing just one of their last four games. That defeat came back on November 14th in 2009, meaning Tuesday’s match will be exactly eight years on. The last four meetings between the two sides have yielded ten goals, averaging at exactly 2.5 a game. With that in mind, I think that there will be goals in this game.

Prediction: England 1-2 Brazil

SKYBET: BRAZIL TO WIN 2-1- 15/2

SKYBET: BTTS AND OVER 2.5 GOALS- 6/5

SKYBET: JESUS TO SCORE FIRST AND DRAW 2-2- 45/1

SKYBET: RASHFORD AND NEYMAR TO BOTH SCORE- 11/2

SKYBET: COUTINHO TO SCORE AND BRAZIL TO WIN- 100/30

SKYBET: GOALS IN BOTH HALVES- 8/11

Horse Racing Preview - Ffos Las - 12th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come from Ffos Las with three selections from the meeting.

13.30 Ffos Las – Rob Davies Chemist Novices Chase (23.5f)

Joe Farrell (138)
Dan Emmett (134)
Oscartea (133)

Joe Farrell was a horse I followed throughout his bumper career when running within two and a half lengths to Barters Hill, finishing behind the likes of Wait For Me and Theo’s Charm, however Ffoa Las was where it all started when winning on debut when beating the likes of Listed hurdle winner Keeper’s Hill, he returns back to his successful haunt for the first time since this time last year and to be fair I am finding it very hard to get him beat.

He looked in need of the first outing at Chepstow last month when finishing fourth to Mia’s Storm who landed the Listed Bud Booth Mares Chase at Market Rasen this month by thirteen lengths, the third Mr Mix has also franked the form winning a 0-140 handicap chase at Wincanton last month and the runner up Elegant Escape bumped into Ballyoptic four days ago. The form is there and it would be disappointing for him to not take this in his stride being a first season chaser.

Dam Emmett has lost his way since two seasons ago, his rating came at Newcastle last March, despite his bad run of form is still well treated off today’s mark of 125, Oscartea though I fear the most this afternoon, his run when behind No Hassle Hoff at Uttoxeter would give him a live chance.

JOE FARRELL : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

15.40 Ffos Las – Victorian Sliders Handicap Chase (16f)

Little Jimmy (120)
Bredon Hill Lad (103)
Yourholidayisover (93)

So many exposed types here including the selection Little Jimmy, Tom Gretton’s ten year old looked once more very uncomfortable returning to hurdles, however Little Jimmy’s only visit here resulted in a second place to Humble Ben over 19.5f, he looks way ahead of the handicap on what he has achieved at this level and off a mark of 100 should be exploiting it now back chasing.

Bredon Hill Lad would probably be a closest rival here, Susan Gardner’s entry makes his season’s debut, he finished up last season with a win at Fontwell over further than this and is a course and distance winner last year when winning off this mark by twenty lengths so any strong market support on re-appearance should not be dismissed.

LITTLE JIMMY : 1pt each way @ SP (BOG)

16.10 Ffos Las – Walters Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle (15.8f)

Rock and Roll King (114)
Global Thrill (113)

This is actually quite a competitive race, Bernard Lllewelyn comes here with a strong hand as he saddles both Flanagans Field & Global Thrill, out of the two despite Global King coming out rated 7lb higher that Flanagans Field looks the more likely one here to do the trainer justice. The ex Dessie Hughes trained nine year old was seen winning around these ranks two runs back when scooting clear to record an eighteen length victory.

He beat his stablemate that day to seventeen lengths when in receipt of 9lb, with only conceding 2lb back this afternoon its hard to see at the weights that form being reversed. Evan Williams also has two in the race in Theatre Stage & the selection Rock and Roll King. The former on jockey bookings looks the main string here under claimer Michael Bastyan, however Rock and Roll King does not look overly exposed and finished off last season when third over 20f.

He drops back in trip here significantly and I would be very surprised that Conor Ring does not have him handy throughout the race having to give weight all round and especially 11lb to his stablemate Theatre Stage.

ROCK AND ROLL KING : 1pt Win @ SP (BOG)

Denmark vs Rep Ire - Match Preview

Denmark vs Rep Ire – Match Preview – The job isn’t quite done for either Denmark or Republic of Ireland who face each other this Saturday in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier Play Off.

Both nations finished second in their qualifying groups which has seen them advance to this stage; a two-legged match for a place in Russia next summer.

The hosts finished second in Group E behind Poland who ran away with 25 points from the 10 matches. Spurs attacker Christian Eriksen was the most prolific for the Danes throughout qualifying, scoring eight and setting up three. However, even a goal from Eriksen in their last outing against Romania wasn’t enough to seal a victory. Having dominated possession and had more shots, Denmark would have been frustrated to have not won that ahead of this huge tie.

Eriksen will be Denmark’s danger man Photo Credit: skysports.com

As well as the Spurs star, Denmark have some other stars amongst their ranks with Kasper Schmeical, Andreas Christensen and Kasper Dolberg in the squad. These players are not only crucial for their clubs but for their country as well. Ireland will have their hands full dealing with the Danes.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Denmark to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 11/8

The visitors had a much tighter qualification process with their fate going down to the final minutes in Group D. A huge 1-0 victory away in Wales was enough for Martin O’Neill’s men to leapfrog the Welsh and gain their place in the next stage of qualifying. The Irish have shown plenty of grit and desire in their performances thus far and for what they lack in talent or personnel, they make up for with a rigid system that had only seen then concede six times in their 10 qualifying matches. West Brom winger James McClean scored the all-important goal in Cardiff and will also be the danger man this Saturday. His pace and ability to strike a ball always makes him a threat.

Can McClean provide another winner for Ireland Photo Credit: skysports.com

Ireland have performed very well overseas since O’Neill’s arrival, getting 11 of their 19 points away from home, and that could be a huge factor over the two legs. The squad has an array of Premier League talent such as Robbie Brady, Harry Arter, Shane Duffy and Jeff Hendrick. Can they grab a huge victory away from home?

Skybet Match Result – Ireland to Win – 9/2

England vs Germany - Friendly - Match Preview

England vs Germany – Friendly – Match Preview – England face Germany at Wembley tomorrow night, with fans excited to see Gareth Southgate’s experimental three lions side in action.

Southgate’s squad has been decimated by injuries, with a number of high-profile players withdrawing from the squad. Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Raheem Sterling are just a few key players who will be unavailable for the match, which offers the opportunity for several uncapped players to seize their chance.

Loftus-Cheek is set to start against Germany Photo Credit: skysports.com

Southgate yesterday called up Burnley midfielder Jack Cork, with a number of midfielders out injured. Cork has had a fine season for Sean Dyche’s side and has been a revelation since joining for £10million in the summer from Swansea City. It has also been confirmed that uncapped Crystal Palace loanee, Ruben Loftus-Cheek will make his debut tomorrow, whilst Tammy Abraham and Joe Gomez will be hoping to do the same. With Kane out injured, Southgate is yet to reveal who will captain the side. Joe Hart and Gary Cahill are amongst the main contenders, should either be chosen to start.

With the World Cup looming, the opportunity for fringe players to make their mark is huge. Southgate has been very strong in his selections, refusing to pick higher-profiled players if they’re not playing regularly for their club. Jack Wilshere, Chris Smalling and Danny Drinkwater have all been a victim of this. This refreshing approach could well lead to a more unified England set-up and whilst nobody is expecting much in Russia, it could be a catalyst for future success.

Marcel Halstenberg is set to start for Germany Photo Credit: rblive.de

Germany have named Marcel Halstenberg in their squad, with the Leipzig defender looking to earn his first cap for his country. Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze have also both been re-called to the set-up following injuries. With big names like Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil and Mats Hummels all available, it could be a tough night for this young England side.

England have only won one of their last four meetings with Germany, which came back in 2016. The last meeting ended in a 1-0 defeat for them, with a new-look team going down to a Lukas Podolski wonder strike. England’s more recent performances against ‘the old enemy’ can give them confidence, with the last three games all finishing with just one goal between the teams.

With England so heavily depleted, I can only see one winner on Friday night. Even if Germany rest some of their star players, I think they’ll have too much for Southgate’s men.

Scotland vs Netherlands - Friendly - Match Preview

Scotland vs Netherlands – Friendly – Match Preview – The international break is upon us and sees the Netherlands travel to Scotland after both teams failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Both nations finished third in their respective World Cup qualifying groups so recent times haven’t favoured either Scotland or Holland.

In their most recent outing, the hosts drew with Slovenia in a heartbreaking result that if won, would have seen them to the next stage of qualifying for the World Cup. A goal from the ever-clinical Leigh Griffiths gave the Scots a flying start, however fortunes turned quickly and although an 88th minute goal from Robert Snodgrass got them on level terms, ultimately it was another frustrating campaign for the Scots. The Celtic striker along with Stoke’s Darren Fletcher will miss out after withdrawing from the squad.

The Netherlands ended their campaign in fine form, however their earlier mishaps cost them qualification. A first half brace against Sweden from Bayern Munich winger, Arjen Robben, wasn’t enough for the Netherlands to leapfrog their Scandinavian opponents. The 33 year old has now retired from international football after failing to qualify for the forthcoming World Cup.The Dutch squad is full to the brim of talent with many household names taking the field for Holland most times, however in recent years they have bitterly underperformed for some odd reason.

Arjen Robben calls time on international football at the age of 33 Photo Credit: skysports.com

Both sides have proven goal scorers and not the most solid of defensive lines so expect some goals in this one. Interim manager of Scotland, Malky Mackay has named his squad with a few new faces amongst the list. Paul Hanlon of Hibernian and Jason Cummings of Nottingham Forest have their first senior squad call-up. Regular, Scott Brown, should feature as the Scots will look to overpower the Dutch midfield with an abrasive high press. A negative for the Scots though as Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths, along with Stoke’s Darren Fletcher will miss out after withdrawing from the squad.

Cummings is likely to start on Thursday night Photo Credit: skysports.com

Skybet Match Result – Scotland to Win – 13/5

Holland have been dealt with some late injury news following Jurgen Locadia and Kenny Tete’s injuries. Luuk de Jong and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have joined up with the national side that has a lot of familiar faces. Wesley Sneijder and Kevin Strootman headline the midfield with Premier League stars Virgil Van Dijk and Nathan Ake bossing things at the back. Should be a great tie with some great players involved.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Netherlands to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 7/1

Horse Racing Preview - Nottingham & Kempton - 8th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from Nottingham and Kempton racecourses.

14.15 Nottingham – Lady Cecil Handicap (5f)

Gracious John (106)
Perfect Pasture (105)
Atletico (98)

David Evans Gracious John returns to the haunt that saw him land this race last year when beating Perfect Pasture by half a length when getting 10lb from his rival, this year he comes into this off just 98 and is only in receipt of 9lb, 1lb might not seem like a lot but it’s equivalent to half a length if needed to reverse that form.

Both have come into this off the back of wins, Gracious John winning three weeks ago at Leicester when over turning 106 rated Just Glamorous, and has only been penalised 2lb, Perfect Pasture won at Doncaster when beating 101 rated Flying Pursuit, however that was over 6f. Today’s optimum trip at this level has seen him just 1-9 as to Gracious John whose form is not much better, however he has been floating around marks of 106-110 for a while so to be dropped to just 98, looks best of the two to land this race. Perfect Pasture drops back to 5f for the first time since this race last year.

One that could upset the applecart if the two inform entrants lose their way is Roger Varian’s Atletico, he has been beaten by Tomily this year to two and a quarter lengths at Doncaster last time out, the only problem he was drawn totally out of the race despite staying on in the closing stages, he is still 9lb higher than when winning his sole turf race at Windsor back in July.

GRACIOUS JOHN : 2pt Win @ 4/1 (BOG)

18.10 Kempton – 32Red.com Nursery (7f)

Motown Mick (82)
Lady of Aran (78)

Richard Hannon books the services of Timmy Murphy this evening on Motown Mick, this son of Intikhab was last seen finishing second to Di Fede by the smallest of margins, back in fifth was Finsbury Park to twelve lengths and even at these weights it’s hard to see that reversed.

Main danger I feel will come from Charlie Fellowes Lady of Aran, she had plenty in hand when beating her opponents over course and distance five weeks ago and the daughter of Sir Prancealot should have no problems here again to be involved under PJ McDonald.

MOTOWN MICK : 2pt Win @ 11/4 (BOG)
