Horse Racing Preview - Haydock, Newbury & Newmarket - 21st July 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from two meetings, Redcar and Leicester. As stated yesterday selections made it hard to pull out a profit on the day, but a strong 3pt suggested nap changed that in Southern Belle who won at a nice return of 13/2.

15.10 Redcar  – Pat and Les Holmes Celebration Maiden Fillies Stakes (7f)

There is no saying they Roger Varian’s yard are in blistering form and are worth following blind over the next few months. Their entry here UAE Queen cost a tidy packet of 450,000gns, the daughter of Oasis Dream and full sister to Materialistic has a very good chance of making her presence felt on debut, the team won the same corresponding race last year with a similar type.

Any realistic opposition, Luca Cumani’s Spinnaka should be the one chasing home the selection. Just the sole juvenile run when finishing second at Brighton in a now weak maiden.

If we disregard her all weather run and turn to her Newmarket encounter when she was just one and a half lengths behind Listed York winner Tomyris. she will I feel be better suited by a stiff mile eventually, but for now she has the form to trouble the field.

UAE Queen : 2pt win @ 15/8 (BOG)

16.10 Redcar – Racing UK Straight Mile Series Fillies Handicap (0-70) (7.9f)

Big chance for Mark Johnston’s filly Khamaary to make a pleasing transition this afternoon. She won here at the course over 6f on debut when just holding on by a neck. The distance is all wrong for the daughter of Tamayuz and with Zafonic genes, this step up to 8f should see her come on further.

I don’t realistically think she can be beaten, Giles Bravery’s Tigserin should run her race now stepping back up in trip and looks a bet for each way money.

Khamaary : 2pt win @ 85/40 (BOG)

20.35 Leicester – British Stallions Stud EBF Maiden Stakes (7f)

Well I am hoping Roger Varian’s To Dibba can at least bring up a maiden double tonight as we have to wait until the last race on the card. The son of Dubawi will prefer a stiffer test of stamina as his season progresses, but this is a solid starting point to get off the mark at the third attempt.

With just the one run as a juvenile when fifth on debut at Doncaster, it was a hot enough maiden which was won by Hyde Park. A pleasing transition when improving to finish runner up on his return to Doncaster when behind Dream Castle who went on to finish runner up in the Greenham and ran a very good fifth in the 2000gns.

The serious danger looks to come with Godolphins Mark of Excellence who fetched just over 100,000gns as a yearling, but could be found out by the trip this evening. The Sepoy colt is related to a plus 9f winner so he just might find this too short, but has to be feared from a yard that are also going well at the early part of the season.

To Dibba : 2pt win @ 13/8 (BOG)

Barcelona vs Eibar - Match Preview

Barcelona vs Eibar – Match Preview

La Liga, Nou Camp Stadium, Barcelona 7pm

Luis Enrique will want to end his time at Barcelona with the league title

Luis Enrique is seeking a 3rd consecutive La Liga title on the last day to end his supremely successfully reign as manager of Barcelona.

Real Madrid need just a solitary point at Malaga to clinch their first title since the Jose Mourinho led triumph of 2011/12. Barcelona have won 15 of their last 17 league matches – including a 3-2 victory against bitter rivals Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu – but dropping points against lesser teams earlier in the campaign may prove to be costly. However, should Los Blancos capitulate at the final hurdle then Barca will be on hand to pounce like a predator – with trophies their prey. Only victory will suffice for the Catalan giants.

Club legend Luis Enrique announced earlier in the season he would be standing down as boss at the end of the campaign. Irrespective of what happens today, he will leave behind the type of victorious legacy befitting of a club deeply entrenched in glory.
8 trophies in his 3 years to date, including a marvellous treble in his first season in 2015, claiming a 25th top division title would be an apt departure.

Enrique will, however, look back on what has unquestionably been a season mainly shrouded in failure by Barcelona’s outrageously demanding standards. Discussions regarding the cause of the failure have been extensive; whether it be the tactics employed, the poor dealings in the transfer market, or an overreliance on a certain Lionel Messi – there is an unsettling aura permeating the club at present.

Despite the miraculous Champions League last-16 come-back against PSG; Juventus ruthlessly dispatched Barca at the next stage in the quarters, winning 3-0 on aggregate. Seemingly now, the only chance of silverware is in the Copa Del Rey final against Alaves next week.

Eibar are seeking a win that would leave the club with an incredible 8th place finish – the highest in the club’s history – so have something to play for themselves. They come into this tie in poor form; only winning one of the last 6 and losing 4 in that period. Regardless, it has been a fantastic season for the Basque club.

Team News
Defensive stalwart Gerard Pique is still struggling for full fitness so is a doubt, making the continued absence of fellow centre-back Javier Mascherano even more pertinent.
Sergi Roberto, however, is back in contention and looks set to go straight back into the starting line-up.

Eibar will be without Fran Rico, Antonio Luna and Nano, whilst also still monitoring the fitness of Takashi Inui.
Pedro Leon and Sergi Enrich should both play though.

Lionel Messi is arguably the best player in the world

Players to Watch
The superlatives have been exhausted when describing Lionel Messi. The Argentinian’s graceful dominance of the beautiful game still shows no signs of faltering – displayed by the remarkable (yet expected) tallies of 51 goals and 18 assists in 50 matches this campaign (35 goals and 12 assists in 33 league matches). A fourth pichichi is undoubtedly heading Messi’s way but that will not quell his insatiable hunger for trophies, only claiming victory over Eibar and (with luck) consequentially the La Liga title will do so. If Barcelona are to somehow achieve that feat, it’s almost a certainty that the diminutive forward will be of central importance.

Pedro Leon will be a name many Real Madrid fans are familiar with, as he once graced the turf of the Bernabeu – but to no avail. Several years on and Pedro Leon now finds himself as a key player in a promising and relatively successful Eibar side. This year in particular has showcased the ability that once prompted Real to fork out just shy of £10m for his services. The winger has found the net 10 times this campaign and also added a further 6 assists – he would love to put one over his old club’s bitter rivals with more performances of that ilk come kick-off.

Malaga vs Real Madrid - Match Preview

Malaga vs Real Madrid – Match Preview

La Liga, La Rosaleda Stadium, Malaga 7pm

Real Madrid can clinch the La Liga trophy this Sunday when they travel to Malaga on the final day of the season. The ‘Galacticos’ are currently three points ahead of El Clasico rivals, Barcelona, and a point would see any result for Barcelona against Eibar insignificant towards their hopes for the title. However, Zinedine Zidane will want his men to flex their footballing muscle and win the title in typical Madrid style. Will Real Madrid get the job done?

Skybet Full Time Result – Real Madrid to Win – 1/4

The hosts, Malaga, have had a mediocre campaign. They’re currently 11th in the league standings with nothing riding on this final fixture. However, they enter this match in good form having won four of their last five matches and drawing the other. The Spanish outfit have averaged 2.8 goals in their last five fixtures with their main attacker, Sandro Ramirez, scoring five in the last five matches. Will we see a goal fest on Sunday?

Skybet Under/Over 3.5 Goals – Over 3.5 Goals in 90 mins – 8/15

Real Madrid still have a chance at a historic double as they are also in the Champions League final where they will face Juventus. Zinedine Zidane will have truly made his mark on the Spanish super club if he pulls off an impressive double.

Team News

Title chasers, Real Madrid, have received two big boosts to their squad in the form of Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez. Zidane will look to utilise this advantage as he looks to win the league in style and display a vintage Real Madrid performance full of flair and goals.

Dani Carvalhal also returns for Madrid which adds more defensive options for Zidane to consider.

Will the possible return to the starting 11 for Carvalhal help Real Madrid keep a vital clean sheet?

Skybet Clean Sheet – Real Madrid to keep a clean sheet – 13/8

Sandro Ramirez is in great goalscoring form

Malaga are still without centre-back, Bacary Kone, who is still nursing an injury to his achilles tendon.

Attacking midfielder, Juanpi Anor, is also doubtful with a groin injury whilst right back, Roberto Rosales, could make a return for the ‘Boquerones’.

Malaga will be looking to striker, Sandro Ramirez, to help them overcome the tough opposition. The ex-Barcelona player is in red hot form and would be a good bet to find the back of the net yet again.

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Sandro Ramirez to score anytime in 90 mins – 9/4

Suggested Tips:

  • Skybet Price Boost – Sandro Ramirez and Karim Benzema both to score in 90 mins – 5/1

Watford vs Manchester City - Match Preview

Watford vs Manchester City – Match Preview

FA Premier League, Vicarage Road, Watford 3pm

Manchester City’s season closes knowing a draw can confirm Champions League status against an out-of-form Watford at Vicarage Road.

Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge at Manchester City has been blighted with inconsistency and has not gone according to the script.
The Spanish boss has only ever once finished a season without a league title – finishing 2nd to Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid in 2011/12 and has never ended a campaign trophy-less, until now.
City were knocked out in the FA Cup semi-final in extra-time by Arsenal, the EFL Cup by  neighbours and eventual winners Manchester United and the Champions League in the last 16 by Monaco. Qualifying for Europe’s elite competitions next season is paramount for the season to not be a complete failure.

The Citizens are in the driving seat in this race; currently in 3rd on 75 points, 2 ahead of 4th place Liverpool and 3 ahead of Arsenal in 5th – coupled with a superior goal difference (+36 compared to Liverpool’s +33 and Arsenal’s +31) over the two chasing competitors and it is really City’s to lose.

Just getting a point will guarantee Champions League football for Guardiola’s men, but even with a loss as long as Arsenal don’t make up a goal difference swing of 5 in their game against Everton then City will be safe.
If either Liverpool (who play at home against Middlesbrough) or Arsenal fail to win then City’s result is unnecessary in the calculations.

Watford have this week stated that manager Walter Mazzarri will be removed from his position at the end of the season, after struggling in recent months and languishing in 16th place at present.
Perennial victims of nothing-to-play-for syndrome; The Hornets have lost their last 5 and scored in only one of those matches.

Team News
Watford could be without as many as 6 central defenders as alongside the suspended Sebastian Prodl, Adrien Mariappa (knee) and Miguel Britos (calf) are at risk of joining Christian Kabasele, Craig Cathcart and Younes Kaboul on the injury table.

For City; John Stones is set to return from a groin strain and Vincent Kompany is in contention despite being substituted in the 3-1 victory against West Brom.

Deeney could start today for outgoing manager Walter Mazzarri

Players to Watch
A reason for the divisiveness between Mazzarri and the Watford fans has been the Italian’s treatment of captain and club icon Troy Deeney. The club’s top scorer this season has found himself on the side-lines more often than he would like this season and now news has broken of Mazzarri’s impending departure may well be fired up to prove his worth to the club for the next manager to come in. 10 goals and 4 assists in 36 appearances in this year’s Premier League is a solid return and the powerful striker is a match for anyone on his day.

Gabriel Jesus has been a revelation for City since joining the club

Gabriel Jesus has been a revelation for City since joining the club Photo Credit: skysports.com

Gabriel Jesus is the new star that keeps on shining. His unfortunate injury in February after his blistering start has hindered his and perhaps Manchester City’s progress this season, but the Brazilian international has still notched 6 goals and 3 assists this season – boasting an extremely impressive record of a goal every 94 minutes in the Premier League. Perhaps even more impressive is the imperious manner in which the 20 year old dislodged City hero Sergio Aguero from the team and not looked back since. Gabriel Jesus will undoubtedly be looking to finish the season strongly and vindicate Guardiola’s bold faith.

Suggested Tips:

  • Skybet Price Boost – Troy Deeney and Gabriel Jesus both to score in 90 mins – 8/1
  • Skybet Price Boost – Leroy Sane to score first – 7/1
  • Skybet Scorecast Boost – David Silva to score first and Manchester City to win 3-1 – 110/1
  • Skybet Scorecast Boost (Double Chance) – Etienne Capoue to score first and either Watford to win 2-1 or Draw 2-2 – 200/1
  • Skybet RequestAbet Up to 10/1 – Manchester City to score 3+ goals, 7+ Manchester City Corners and 20+ Watford booking pts – 7/2
  • Skybet RequestAbet 11/1 to 28/1 – Gabriel Jesus to score, Manchester City to win and Kompany & Behrami to be carded – 22/1
  • Skybet RequestAbet 11/1 to 28/1 – Aguero & Gabriel Jesus to score and Holebas & Janmaat to be carded – 28/1
  • Skybet RequestAbet 33/1 to 66/1 – Gabriel Jesus & De Bruyne to score and Behrami & Holebas to be carded – 40/1

Arsenal vs Everton - Match Preview

Arsenal vs Everton – Match Preview

FA Premier League, Emirates Stadium, London 3pm

Arsenal host Everton at the Emirates Stadium on the final day of the Premier League 2016/17 campaign. Everton’s season is all but over, as they have cemented 7th in the league standings finishing just below Manchester United. However, the hosts are competing for a spot in the top four, as they sit one point below Liverpool and three behind Manchester City. Arsenal will need to rely on other results to go their way if they are to qualify for top 4.

At least a point is crucial for Arsene Wenger’s side who have struggled to win over their fanbase this season with too many below par performances. Amidst news stories of their shareholders trying to outbid each other for a majority stake in the London club, the squad will look to forget all the off the pitch drama to focus on the match in hand. Arsenal have picked up some form, having won their last four matches on the spin in the league, will they make it five?

Skybet Full Time Result – Arsenal to Win – 2/5

At times this season, Ronald Koeman’s side have looked unstoppable with their potent attack often terrorising opposition defences. Young talents such as Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have become regulars in the well drilled Merseyside squad. Frontman, Romelu Lukaku, has had his best season to date having netted 24 goals averaging a goal every 132 minutes. With plenty of transfer buzz around the young Belgian, will he score yet again in what could be his final Everton match?

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Romelu Lukaku – 7/4

Team News

The hosts are without fan favourite, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is injured with a hamstring injury. The English winger has been key for Arsenal this season, showcasing plenty of passionate performances; something Arsenal players have been criticised for throughout this season.

Arsene Wenger is also without Santi Cazorla and Reine-Adelaide who are both nursing their respective injuries.

English forward, Danny Welbeck is likely to start up front for the Gunners. Can Welbeck get Arsenal onto the front foot?

Skybet Anytime Goalscorer – Danny Welbeck – 11/10

Ronald Koeman can thank his lucky stars that this match isn’t season defining for the Merseyside club. He is without Funes Mori, Yannick Bolasie, Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy who are all side-lined with injuries.

First choice goalkeeper, Martin Stekelenburg, is also doubtful with a groin injury. Will a fresh-faced goalkeeper cause havoc for the Everton defence?

Skybet To Score – Arsenal to score 2+ Goals – 30/100

Suggested Tips:

  • Skybet Request Up to 10/1 – Sanchez to score, Arsenal to win, over 2.5 goals and Under 40 match booking pts – 5/2
  • Skybet Request Up to 10/1 – Sanchez & Lukaku to score, Arsenal to win and BTTS – 6/1

Daily Horse Racing Pro Tips - 17th October 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from two meeting’s in Ripon and Market Rasen. Yesterday’s selections could not have gone any better with a 150/1 treble landed with Visionary, Defoe and Ribchester and respectable odds.

Before I get on to the blog, I would like to pass on my condolences to the Swinbank family after the sudden loss of trainer Alan Swinbank. A trainer for me who did not get enough coverage as a trainer, he will be missed I am sure.

14.35 Ripon – Calder Cabins Flat Caps Supporting Spoon Handicap (0-60) (6f)

Not the greatest of contests to start the day, but a trainer that has been amongst the winners recently is Jedd O’Keeffe and he saddles here Urban Spirit.

Despite showing nothing as a juvenile which is not that much of worry as I actually thought his fifth on reappearance at Catterick was a tight finish on the day with only three lengths covering all eight runners in the race. It was his first of the season and should come on I feel for a trainer in form.

Best of the rest looks to come from Kroy who has the booking of Paul Hanagan once more. Has run just the once over today’s index finishing third of nine on the all-weather at Newcastle in a 0-70 contest.

His first appearance after an eight month layoff cane at Thirsk when finishing fifth of thirteen, going behind by just over three lengths. Drops in class and attempting 7f once more, interesting.

Urban Spirit : 2pt win @ 4/1 (BOG)

15.10 Ripon  – VW Van Centre (West Yorkshire) Handicap (0-80)

David O’Meara’s Warm Love looked more backward than forward on his transition run at Pontefract when only finishing third of five around the maiden sphere. He showed promise as a juvenile with two second finishes at Thirsk and Beverley.

Drops slightly in trip this afternoon and makes his handicap debut off a mark of 73 and we have to look at his Beverley run when behind Areen Heart who was only just denied in this company on his follow up run. I don’t think there is much room off this mark on debut and will have to step up.

One I like is Willie Haggas’s Alshibaa who had three runs as a juvenile with some encouragement when six lengths behind recent 0-85 winner Crowned Eagle, being by New Approach he should be getting further than this, steps slightly up in trip once more, should be on the premises on handicap debut.

Lucy’s Law improved on her second start when runner up to Helovaplan at Thirsk in a 0-70 handicap, she steps up in trip this afternoon and is not a stranger to the course.

Alshibaa : 2pt win @ 4/1 (BOG)

16.00 Market Rasen  – Matchbook Betting Exchange Dam Buster Handicap Chase (19.1f)

A case can be made for most of these, but the fact that Charlie Mann’s Gowanauthat has been pulled on three occasions over the past two weeks means they either need to get a run into him or they have found a good opportunity off his 130 rating.

With five chase wins last season, two coming this time of year he has improved at a serious rate which included winning a 0-140 chase at Stratford.

This is probably his minimal trip these days, but is capable off his current mark of 130. Just the two runs under his belt this year, looked the winner when unseating today’s pilot in the Topham,.was just denied when beaten a neck in a 0-140 last month, it looks like they have been wanting softer conditions.

Baby King will relish the conditions most after his heavy ground win at Wincanton. Steps into new territory as the trip is concerning so it’s on trust. We have to recognise Dan Skelton’s Yorkist who ran well at Stratford last time and is another that won’t mind the underfoot conditions, but Gowanauthat still looks well handicapped.

Gowanauthat : 2pt win @ 5/1 (BOG)

16.10 Ripon – Wilmot-Smith Memorial EBF Breeders Series Fillies Handicap (0-95) (6f)

I am very sweet on Robert Cowells Southern Belle in this. She’s a filly that I think is ground dependable and will prefer the ground this afternoon.

Two runs under her belt this year has seen her fourth on both occasions, 1-2 over the index when in fact she’s 1-1 as the ground went against her on her last run of 2016 at Pontefract.

If she doesn’t turn up then Les Eyre’s Sandra’s Secret has to be feared. She has shown better form around the late summer months, but off her current mark, she has to be respected.

Southern Belle : 3pt win @ 11/2 (BOG) (NAP)

Bradford City vs Millwall - Match Preview

Bradford City vs Millwall – Match Preview

Skybet League One Playoff Final, Wembley Stadium, London 3pm

The Sky Bet League One season comes to a climax as Bradford City and Millwall battle for promotion to The Championship in the play-off final.

Bradford return to Wembley just four years after besting Northampton in the League Two play-off final and are seeking for their first stint in the second tier of English football since 2004.

Bradford are looking for a perfect hattrick at Wembley; also emerging victorious in the above mentioned match against Northampton and also in 1996 against Notts County.

This season has been a strong one for The Bantams; finishing in 5th place just 3 points away from beaten semi-finalists Scunthorpe in 3rd.
Stuart McCall’s men finished with a total of just 7 losses in the league this season – the second lowest total after dominant champions, Sheffield United in the division.

The lions’ season was a bit more difficult; sneaking in to the play-offs with a dramatic final day 4-3 victory over Bristol Rovers – scoring the winner in the 85th minute just to add to the theatre.

However, the resilience and determination shown in the 3-2 semi-final victory at Scunthorpe illustrates that Millwall are by no means here to make up the numbers, they are desperate to get back into the Championship two seasons after relegation.

A fifth Wembley appearance in 8 seasons will give manager Neil Harris’ men the belief in their experience to get the job done.

Both league matches this season between the two teams finished 1-1 – leaving the hypothetical winner as a difficult call to make.

Steve Morrison has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season

Players to Watch
Millwall icon Steve Morrison has had a brilliant season – his tally of 18 goals in all competitions has aided The Lions’ promotion push to no end. Additionally, the striker has been pivotal in Millwall’s astounding FA Cup run; scoring against two Premier League sides Bournemouth and the winner against Watford. Another performance here like the brace notched in the dramatic comeback victory in the semi-final against Scunthorpe and The Lions could well be roaring at Wembley.

Colin Doyle has 17 clean sheets this season

Colin Doyle has 17 clean sheets this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

Bradford partially owe their excellent season to goalkeeper Colin Doyle; the stopper, standing at an imposing 6ft5, has played every single minute of the campaign to date. He has also kept the joint second highest clean sheets, 17, after team-of-the-year feature Connor Ripley who has just one more. Doyle also boasts an impressive save percentage of 37%, and will may need to be in similar form to keep out Millwall’s potent threat of Morrison and Lee Gregory.

Team News
Bradford have no new injury concerns, and also see Alex Jones come back into contention after returning to training at the start of the week.

Millwall are also fortuitous in that there are no new problems. Shaun Cummings is still ruled out with a hamstring injury but Shaun Hutchinson – who played with a cracked rib against Scunthorpe – is expected to keep his place in defence.

Suggested Tips:

  • Skybet Price Boost – Steve Morison to score a brace – 20/1
  • Skybet Price Boost – Lee Gregory to score and Millwall to win in 90 mins – 5/1
  • Skybet Scorecast Boost – Mark Marshall to score first and Bradford to win 2-1 – 100/1
  • Skybet Scorecast Boost (Double Chance) – Aiden O’Brien to score first and either Millwall to win 2-0 or Millwall to win 3-1 – 66/1
  • Skybet RequestAbet Up to 10/1 – BTTS, 4+ corners each team and 20+ booking pts each team – 15/2
