World Cup Qualifiers - Georgia vs Wales - Match Preview

Georgia vs Wales – Match Preview – With just two games left of the qualifying campaign, Wales desperately need to secure victory at Georgia to maintain any hopes of reaching the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Despite not losing a single qualification match so far, with 14 points from 8 games, realistically Chris Coleman’s side need to win both of their remaining fixtures to stand any chance of qualifying.

Serbia, with 18 points, have all but secured 1st place and qualification in Group D, leaving Wales and Republic of Ireland to battle it out for 2nd place and a potential play-off spot.
Even that play-off spot is uncertain at present, however, as one of the nine groups’ 2nd place teams will miss out as eight progresses – Wales are currently bottom of the nine-team table which is comprised of points achieved against sides that aren’t last in each team’s respective group.

It sounds complicated but the matter of fact is simple, Wales need to win in Georgia.

The task will be made even more difficult following the revelation of star man Gareth Bale being ruled out through injury, and for the crucial, potential winner-takes-all final match against Ireland too.

Vladimir Weiss’ side are notoriously hard to break down and will provide stern opposition, but have no victories to their name in this qualification campaign – despite earning draws against each of the top three sides in the group, including a 1-1 draw in Cardiff in the reverse fixture in a stellar performance which could well have obtained the win.
Expect a tough battle with both sides prioritising defence, however Wales will hope they have enough quality in the side despite Bale’s absence to get over the line and remain in the hunt for a first World Cup appearance in 60 years.

Team News

The headline is inevitably Real Madrid forward and Welsh talisman Gareth Bale’s exclusion, but now he has also been joined on the sidelines by Norwich City’s Marley Watkins – they have been replaced by Barnsley forwards Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Hedges as Wales look for supplementation in attack.

Aaron Ramsey will be key in Wales’ qualification hopes Photo Credit: skysports.com

Player to Watch

Ever since Aaron Ramsey’s inclusion for Wales at the tender age of 17 in 2008, he has had a large portion of the nation’s hopes on his shoulders – but the 26-year-old consistently delivers. The playmaker will hope he can continue his recent surge of form at club level with Arsenal onto the international stage for these final two crucial qualification games. At his best there is no facet of the game beyond Ramsey, but above all else he instils belief in the rest of the team and is a driving force behind the passion and intensity in the Welsh game. Such qualities are pivotal in emerging from international matches such as these with the win.

Horse Racing Preview - Chelmsford City & Ascot - 6th October 2017

Today’s horse racing preview has three selections, coming from Chelmsford City and Ascot (Listed Murless Stakes).

15.45 Ascot – Londonmetric Noel Murless Stakes (Listed) (14.1f)

There looks chinks in a few armours here and on merit Eve Johnson Houghton’s On To Victory can once more stamp his authority which he has already shown when landing the Persian Punch Conditions Stakes at Salisbury last month. He looked to have plenty in hand that day and you have to consider that he was beating 108 rated Battersea in easy fashion by two and a quarter lengths going away.

The Gosden pair Weekender and Zenon are unknown contenders over this trip, with Weekender rated around 97 and Zenon around 95 they have a bit to find stepping up in trip, Raheen House first attempt at today’s trip came in the St Leger when finishing seventh, for me he just did not stay the trip and surprising that connections are attempting it again and the fact he has to also give weight all round to his rivals.

Ralph Beckett won this last year with Alyssa and is represented here once more with Mount Moriah who has already won over 14f this year at Ascot and equipped himself quiet well in the Gordon Stakes & Irish St Leger where he finished third on both occasions. The key here is the ground and On To Victory has bounced twice this season off the conditions and once more can grab success at the expense of probably Weekender and Mount Moriah chasing him home.

ON TO VICTORY : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

17.45 Chelmsford City – Bet toteplacepot At Bedfred.com Auction Stakes (8f)

If the form line goes to plan then this is a good opportunity for Lucy Wadham’s Dance to Paris to get off the mark at the fourth attempt, here at Chelmsford City. This is a much easier task from her last run at Newmarket when running behind the likes of Magic Lily and Heather Lark. This will be her all weather debut and apart form Robyn Brisland’s Merkava, I cannot see much troubling the selection at the business end under jockey Josephine Gordon.

DANCE TO PARIS : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

21.15 Chelmsford City- Book Your Christmas Party At CCR Maiden Stakes (7f)

Despite four runners there is a case that can be made for all, but Godolphin’s Perfect Sense was last seen when finishing runner up to Willie Haggas’s One Master at Yarmouth. He has already seen the backside of two Haggas’s runners this year and potentially I would have him rated a few pound higher than Haggas’s runner here in Diagnostic who finished second on debut at Chepstow behind the consistent Spinnaka. She takes on the boys this afternoon and could find Perfect Sense a bit too much to handle despite getting the services of Ryan Moore.

Ghaseedah has been disappointing and drops out of handicap company in a race she found too hot to handle at Thirsk back in August. She looks to have a few pounds to find on the front pair this evening at Chelmsford City which should just go to Godolphin.

PERFECT SENSE : 2pt Win @ SP (BOG)

NFL - Gameweek 5 Preview

NFL – Gameweek 5 Preview – With 4 Teams Going on a Bye this week (saints, broncos, falcons and redskins) here are my Week 5 NFL Season Predictions & Stats:

Thursday Night:

Patriots at Buccaneers

The defending champs have struggled on defense all year, and after their loss on Sunday they will be looking to rebound. Meanwhile the Bucs’ offense, which we believed would be explosive, have yet to have the game that showcases all of their offensive talent. This will be a shootout, but it’s hard to see the Pats losing back to back games.

Patriots to Win –  31-27

Brady: 300 YDS, 4 TDs

Gronkowski: 88 YDS Rec, 2 TDs

Sunday Games:

Chargers at Giants

Both teams have struggled out the gate; the Chargers have been the more impressive team, while the Giants have struggled on offense, in particular their offensive line. The Giants have a top defense and I expect the offense to finally get going.

Giants to Win –  24- 17

Manning: 245 YDS, 2 TDs

Beckham: 110 YDS: 1 TD

Giants Defense: 1 TD via Turnover

Bills at Bengals

The Bills have looked impressive the year, while the Bengals, 2 Games in with their new offensive coordinator, have improved. I see the Bills continuing their momentum here

Bills to Win –  14-10

Taylor: 200 YDS, 1 TD

McCoy: 88 YDS Rushing, 1 TD

Jets at Browns

Two of the worst teams in the past decade face off, and while the Jets are 2-2 and the Browns are 0-4, I expect a game where two teams are looking to give a good showing.

Jets to Win –  13-7

Jaguars at Steelers

The Steelers have been up and down this year, while the Jags have improved on both sides of the ball. At home however, it’s always a tough bet to go against the Steelers.

Steelers to Win –  24-14

Roethlisberger: 250 YDS, 1 TD

Bell: 115 Total Yards: 2 YDs

Brown: 85 YDS Receiving

49ers at Colts

Both teams have been Struggling, however each team has been competitive in recent weeks. I expect a good game.

Colts to Win –  13-7

Cardinals at Eagles

The Eagles have been soaring and are atop of the NFC East, I expect them to keep the momentum going against the injured Cardinals.

Eagles to Win –  24-14

Weinz: 250 YDS Passing, 2 TDS

Panthers at Lions

Both teams have looked impressive to start the season, and this will be an exciting matchup. The Panther’s offense is injured, and will be facing a hot Lions defense who have already topped their turnover total from last year. Both QB’s in Newton and Stafford are off to great starts, so expect an explosive big play game.

Lions to Win –  28-21

Stafford: 315 YDS, 3 TDS

Tate: 88 YDS , 1 TD

Abdullah: 100 YDS rushing, 1 TD

Skybet Home Points Under/Over – Lions Over 24.5 Points – 11/8

Seahawks at Rams

Division game here with both teams looking to make a statement. The Rams have looked impressive under new Coach Sean McVay and are leading the division at 3-1, while the Seahawks at 2-2 are looking to get some momentum. This will be a key test for QB Jared Goff against the vaunted Seahawks defense, and the Rams defense will be looking to gain their footing against the struggling Seahawks offense.

Rams to Win –  21-17

Goff: 215 YDS, 1 TD

Gurley: 150 Total Yards: 2 TD’s

Ravens at Raiders

Both teams have struggled out the gate, and with the Raiders QB Derek Carr out on injury, the Raiders will be looking to use RB Marshawn Lynch heavily. Predictability is always difficult in the NFL, I believe the Ravens will take this one.

Ravens to Win –  14-7

Packers at Cowboys

In my game of the week, I expect a showdown between these teams. The Cowboys will be looking for revenge after their NFL Playoff loss to the Packers. The Packers are coming in injured but at a solid 3-1 record, while coming off a loss at 2-2, the Cowboys will be looking to turn the corner. An entertaining game.

Packers to Win –  28-24

Rodgers: 315 YDS, 3 TDs

Nelson: 115 YDS Receiving, 2 TDS

Chiefs at Texans

With the Best record in the League, the Chiefs will be facing the hot Texans Sunday night in primetime. Rookie QB for the Texans, Deshaun Watson looked impressive in their smashing last week against the Titans, however will be in for a tough matchup with the Chiefs defense.

Chiefs to Win – 24-14

Smith: 25o YDS, 2 TDs

Hunt: 100 YDS total, 1 TD

Kelce: 115 YDS, 1 TD

**7 Fold Win Accumulator – Patriots, Jets, Lions, Giants, Eagles Steelers and the Chiefs ALL to WIN – 20.64/1 – Skybet**

Horse Racing Preview - Chelmsford City - 5th October 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from the all weather course at Chelmsford City with two selections from the meeting.

18.15 Chelmsford City – Bet tote Jackpot @ Betfred.com Fillies Novices Stakes (7f)

A very competitive looking stakes race involving some well pedigreed juveniles on show here at Chelmsford City, Saeed Bin Suroor saddles Beautiful Memory who finished third on debut at Leicester, the debut run is still open to discussion on what potential is to come out of the race, jury out but being by Invincible spirit there is no doubt improvement there. Sir Mark Prescott saddles both Frolic and Connoisseur.

The former has had a few chances now to get of the mark and will make her all weather debut this evening. The daughter of Dutch Art was beaten a neck over this trip last time at Chepstow, the fact is that race deserves some recognition with all improving without winning at present, so the switch to the all weather could show improvement once more now dropping back to the dead seven.

Willie Haggas has also an entry here in Perfect Thought who has a similar profile to Frolic who is having her fourth run this evening, she steps up to the 7f for the first time and being by New Approach this should be more to her comfort zone after some improving runs at 6f on the turf, especially the form with Foxtrot Lady who ran within one and a half lengths to the smart Beshaayir.

John Gosden and Charlie Appleby are also well represented here with West Palm Beach and Expressiy, the latter has kept good company in all of her three runs which included finishing last in the Group 3 Prix D’Aumale which has thrown up winners such as Wild Illusion who recently won The Group 1 Prix Marcel Broussac, the drop back to Novice company is a big step for her giving her the opportunity to be involved despite having to give 6lb to the weights to all adversaries.

West Palm Beach finished third on debut at Kempton when just over two lengths behind Verandah who was given a soft ride when fifth in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes, the fourth place finisher Paint has since won and finished placed in a competitive race at Newmarket.

It’s a tight race indeed, Expressiy and Frolic both have profiles to win a race like this, especially the former who looks least exposed of the two, West Palm Beach has shown enough on debut with all weather form, can be involved under Ryan Moore, but the tentative vote goes to the Willie Haggas’s Perfect Thought who showed enough on all three runs that she can step up to 7f.

PERFECT THOUGHT : 1pt each way @ SP (BOG)

18.45 Chelmsford City – Weatherby’s Global Stallions App Maiden Stakes (10f)

Charlie Appleby’s Falcon Eye was subject to a gamble last time when finishing fifth at Sandown, that was over a mile and the way he was staying on, this step up in trip here at Chelmsford City should once more show improvement. Hugo Palmer’s Harbour Knights disappointed me on debut at Kempton, despite that the winner Graffiti Master looks a nice type going forward.

The one I was taken by on debut was John Gosden’s Heather Lark who kept up to her work when finishing third on debut at Newmarket when behind a nice looking winner in Magic Lily who blitzed the field that day by eight lengths. The runner up Mystic Meg has been reported as one of Hugo Palmer’s better juveniles in the yard, so on that assumption there should be more to come from this daughter of Shamardal.

Others to mention is the Godolphin runner Deyaarna who’s second to Alternative Fact at Newmarket is probably good form, he will have to step up again to win this I think, but with Jim Crowley now booked you would have thought the last two runs have made him sharp, steps up to 10f for the first time, very interesting.

HEATHER LARK : 1pt each way @ SP (BOG)

World Cup Qualifiers - N.Ire vs Germany - Match Preview

N.Ire vs Germany – Match Preview – Northern Ireland will host Germany this Thursday as they will close out their very successful World Cup qualifying campaign.

The hosts are currently second in the standings with 19 points, behind non other than Thursdays opponents. With only another point or two pretty much securing a second-place qualification, the Irish will still have something to play for over the international break.

The Germans have been very German thus far in the qualifying campaign; topping Group C with impeccable statistics. 35 goals in eight games speaks for itself, and on top of that they have only conceded two goals. Northern Ireland will have a tough time breaking down that German wall.

After a summer of celebration for Northern Ireland at the UEFA Euros in 2016, many believed that would be the pinnacle of their success for some time and wrote them off for World Cup qualification. However, the men in green have gone from strength to strength and have also become much stronger defensively. They haven’t conceded a goal in all competitions since November last year.

Lafferty has been in good form for N.Ireland Photo Credit: skysports.com

They have also excelled in front of goal with the strike force of Conor Washington, Kyle Lafferty and Oliver Norwood becoming a clinical attack. Last time they met, Germany won 2-0 with a very comfortable performance but Northern Ireland are in the form of their lives, so could they cause a huge upset for the bookmakers?

Skybet Match Result – N.Ireland to Win – 10/1

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Germany are one of the best footballing nations in the world. Their squad depth is to be admired, with many World Class players struggling to make the 23-man squad. Their form is also admirable, having not lost since the semi-finals at the UEFA Euros in 2016.

Muller and his German team mates have been almost unstoppable Photo Credit: skysports.com

Having most recently picked apart Norway in a 6-0 victory, Germany are continuing to bulldoze their opponents hence why they are top of the group by 5 points. Thomas Muller will pose a huge threat to the Northern Ireland defence; he has scored five goals and has six assists in the qualifying campaign. The Bayern Munich attacker is also joined by Julian Draxler, Mesut Ozil and veteran Mario Gomez. Will the firepower of the Germans be too much for Northern Ireland to handle?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Germany to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 100/30

World Cup Qualifiers - Scotland vs Slovakia - Match Preview

Scotland vs Slovakia – Match Preview – Scotland face Slovakia in a crucial match in Group F. A win for Slovakia would knock Scotland out the race for qualification for the World Cup. Victory for the Scots however, and they would leapfrog their opponents in the group.

Scotland know that if they are to secure second spot, they must win their next two games. This game against Slovakia in particular is crucial, with them sitting one point behind their visitors. With England also playing Slovenia, If Scotland win there is a very good chance they would sit second in the group, with just one match left to play. With their final group game then away at Slovenia, they would only need a point to qualify from that match.

Since their 3-0 defeat to England last year, Scotland are unbeaten in qualifying. That run stretches four matches, in which they have won three. In those three games they won, they kept three clean sheets. Keeping the back four shut has been key to Scotland’s recent revival, allowing the attacking players to win them the game and grab the three points.

Leigh Griffiths will be pivotal for Scotlands hopes of qualification in the last 2 games Photo Credit: skysports.com

For Slovakia, they know that their fate is also in their own hands. If they can beat Scotland, it would knock Scotland out of the running for the play-off spot. A victory at Hampden, and England also beating Slovenia on Thursday night, would mean they would be uncatchable in second place, and would secure themselves a play-off match. Their defeat against England last time out brought to an end their five match unbeaten run. Since losing their first two games to England and Slovenia, they had won every game they had played, catapulting them in to second place in the group.

Whilst Slovakia comfortably dispatched of Scotland 3-0 at home, this will be an entirely different game. With Scotland knowing they must win, the atmosphere at Hampden Park will be fantastic. It will be an enthralling match up, with both sides so close to securing a play-off spot. Whichever team can handle that pressure best will decide this game.

Of the three sides looking to secure second spot, Scotland have the worst defensive record leaking ten goals. Whilst they have shored up at the back recently, it will be interesting to see how long they can resist this talented Slovakia side for. With both teams having scored 14 goals, they both know where the back of the net is, so I’m going to plump for a score draw in this one.

Prediction: Scotland 1-1 Slovakia

SKYBET: CORRECT SCORE 1-1- 9/2
SKYBET: SCOTLAND TO WIN 1-0, 2-0 OR 2-1- 2/1
SKYBET: BTTS AND DRAW- 100/30
SKYBET: HAMSIK TO SCORE FIRST AND SLOVAKIA TO WIN 2-1- 50/1
SKYBET: GRIFFITHS AND NEMEC TO BOTH SCORE- 13/2
SKYBET: BTTS AND OVER 2.5 GOALS- 7/4

World Cup Qualifiers - England vs Slovenia - Match Preview

England vs Slovenia – Match Preview – England return to action on Thursday, knowing just a win would secure their automatic qualification for the 2018 World Cup.

Gareth Southgate’s side sit five points ahead of second placed Slovakia. A draw against Slovenia would all but ensure top spot in Group F, but a win would mathematically seal their fate. England will be without Deli Alli for the match, with the Spurs’ man missing through suspension. The Three Lions do however have Harry Kane fit and available, with the Tottenham striker having scored 11 goals in his last six games. Kane also scored two in England’s last game against Malta, showing he can replicate his club form for his country as well.

Whilst England are yet to lose in this group, they did draw with Slovenia back in October last year. That point means Slovenia are one of only two teams to take points away from them in the group. England will be hoping this won’t happen again, as they look to cross the line in qualification. A positive for England is they have kept six clean sheets in eight games, but they have conceded three in their last three. With them holding the best offensive and defensive record in the group, that should be enough to see them grab three points.

Can Harry Kane fire England into the World Cup? Photo Credit: skysports.com

Slovenia, like England, have a very good defensive record. With them only conceding four goals in their eight matches so far, they have the next best record after England. Their Achilles heel however, is offensively. They have only scored ten goals so far, with only Malta and Lithuania scoring less in the group. If they are to get a result a Wembley, they will need to buck that trend, and been more offensive.

With Slovenia knowing a result for them would put them in the driving seat for second spot, they have even more motivation to try and get a result. With them sitting just a point behind Slovakia and level with Scotland, they could end the night in second place as the other two teams face each other. That would leave them with a final showdown with the Scots on match day ten, but they would be in control of their own destiny.

Unfortunately for them, I don’t see that happening. With qualification just in sight for England, I think they’ll get the job done at Wembley, with a comprehensive win.

Prediction: England 2-0 Slovenia

SKYBET: CORRECT SCORE ENGLAND TO WIN 2-0- 9/2
SKYBET: KANE TO SCORE A BRACE- 5/2
SKYBET: RASHFORD TO SCORE FIRST AND ENGLAND TO WIN 4-0- 35/1
SKYBET: ENGLAND -2 HANDICAP- 5/2
SKYBET: KANE TO SCORE A HATTRICK AND ENGLAND TO WIN 3-0- 80/1
SKYBET: BTTS AND OVER 2.5 MATCH GOALS- 7/4
SKYBET: KANE AND DEFOE TO BOTH SCORE- 5/2
