New Zealand vs British & Irish Lions - 3rd Test - Match Preview

New Zealand vs British & Irish Lions – 3rd Test – Match Preview – It all comes down to this. Perfectly poised at 1-1, Eden Park hosts the decisive test match. The British and Irish Lions are looking for a first series victory in New Zealand for 46 years.

After a first home defeat since 2009, The All Blacks are a caged beast eagerly awaiting the opportunity to strike, and The Lions will be ready to face the impending backlash.
This game has every possible ingredient for an absolute classic to unfold before our very eyes – The Lions either etch themselves into history or will go down with an almighty effort against one of sports’ greatest teams.

The story so far
1st Test: New Zealand 30-15 Lions

Eden Park, Auckland hosted the opener. In what was mostly a resilient defensive display, the Lions were unable to prevent the ruthless All Blacks, and in particular Rieko Ioane, from breaking down the door and sustaining an insurmountable lead – Ioane scoring twice on his first test start to complete a dominant display. A massive positive for Gatland’s side was the absolutely breath-taking try from a full-length-of-the-pitch pick up and run from Liam Williams that was brilliantly finished by Sean O’Brien.

2nd Test: New Zealand 21-24 Lions

Wellington witnessed the spectacular. A phenomenal performance and result that completely capsized the whitewash ship that everyone expected. The clinical edge was the missing factor in Auckland but it shone through in abundance in the second test. The victory was even more improbable considering The Lions conceded 10 penalties, a Beauden Barrett at his usual imperious self would have done better than the 7/10 he posted to put the series beyond doubt. The straight-red card given for Sonny Bill Williams’ reckless shoulder charge undoubtedly aided The Lions, but they took their opportunities when it mattered. Toby Faletau and Conor Murray’s excellent scores were partnered by ice-cold kicking from Owen Farrell to just battle over the line and deservedly hold out for the win.

This sets up the all-important 3rd and final test match back at Eden Park. Warren Gatland could become the first coach in Lions history to claim back-to-back series wins – an outstanding accomplishment if he were to do so against the double World Champions. Such a feat would undoubtedly elevate the New-Zealand born coach into the upper echelons of the game in history, as would be the case for most of the squad, just further highlighting the magnitude of this match and the importance of victory.
The All Blacks are not used to the taste of defeat, and neither is their coach Steve Hansen – perhaps making it even more bitter when it does happen.
A retaliation from the last test is inevitable, and an astounding game of rugby between the finest in the Northern hemisphere and the finest in the world will decide who shall emerge in glory.
Let battle commence.

Team News
With Liam Williams passing a fitness test after some early concern, Gatland unsurprisingly names an unchanged side from the one that was victorious in Wellington. His controversial decision to name Johnny Sexton at fly-half and Owen Farrell at inside-centre was seemingly justified with the victory and he sticks with that concept.
The other change many thought might be made was the departure of Alun Wyn Jones, but the experienced Welsh lock will break the record for becoming the first player to play in every test in three consecutive Lions tours since the game became professional in 1995, a fantastic achievement.

Sonny Bill Williams will be sorely missed in the centre for The All Blacks through suspension, so Ngani Laumape will replace him at 12 with Malakai Fekitoa coming into the replacements.

Wimbledon Day 6 – Single’s Preview – Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Milos Raonic, David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych are all in action as they look to try and cement a place in the last 16 of Wimbledon.

Here is a look at another jam-packed schedule on Wimbledon, day six.

Novak Djokovic V Ernest Gulbis

It was at this stage last year when the then Wimbledon champion was knocked out by Sam Querrey. The world number four will be hoping he fares better in the third-round this time around, in order to avoid another disappointing tournament. Djokovic is yet to lose a set, having beaten Adam Pavlasek in the last round 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.

Gulbis himself has also not dropped a set in Wimbledon 2017. The Latvian has proven he is a capable underdog, knocking out Juan Martin del Potro in the last round, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6. Gulbis has only reached this stage once in his career, back in 2013, but will be hoping to make a first ever fourth-round appearance this year.

SKYBET: DJOKOVIC TO WIN- 1/16

SKYBET: GULBIS TO WIN- 8/1

SKYBET: DJOKOVIC TO WIN 3-1(SET BETTING)- 3/1

SKYBET: GULBIS TO WIN A SET- 11/8

Roger Federer V Mischa Zverev

Federer disposed of Daniil Lajovic in his first full game of Wimbledon. The world number five took the game in straight sets, winning 7-6, 6-3, 6-2. Having opted against taking part in the French Open, Federer looks fresh and another win would pay testament to his decision.

His Germany counterpart is ranked number 30 in the world, and is in the third round for the first time since 2008. Despite winning the first two sets in the second round again Mikhail Kukushkin, Zverev was taken to five sets, eventually coming out 6-1, 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, 6-4 winner. This a clear indication that if Federer does lose the first or second set, do not count against him pulling it back.

SKYBET: FEDERER TO WIN: 1/25

SKYBET: ZVEREV TO WIN- 10/1

SKYBET: TOTAL NUMBER OF GAMES (UNDER 30.5)- 1/1

David Ferrer V Thomas Berdych

Two of Tennis’ ‘nearly men’ meet in third-round of Wimbledon. Spaniard Ferrer comes in to the game fresh, having only played three games in the second round. At 3-0 in the first set, his opponent Steve Darcis was forced to retire with injury, leaving Ferrer with an automatic qualification. He did however knock out Richard Gasquet in the first round, which was by no means an easy feat.

World number 15 Berych has won both of his first two games in four sets. He beat Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 to earn his place in the third round. Having reached the semi-final of last year’s competition, Berdych will be hoping to try and replicate similar form if he is to progress further.

SKYBET: DAVID FERRER TO WIN- 7/2

SKYBET: THOMAS BERDYCH TO WIN- 1/5

SKYBET: BERDYCH TO WIN 3-1(SET BETTING)- 11/4

SKYBET: DAVID FERRER TO WIN AND BOTH PLAYER TO WIN A SET- 5/1

Honduras vs Costa Rica - Match Preview

Honduras vs Costa Rica – Match Preview – Two of the tournament’s dark horses match up as Honduras and Costa Rica begin their 2017 Gold Cup campaigns.

Both sides have history in the competition, Honduras securing the title in 2001 and Costa Rica’s success coming further back with 3 tournament wins in 1963, 1969 and 1983. They will be desperate to provide a stern challenge for regular tournament victors Mexico and the United States in this year’s edition.

Both teams are strong favourites to qualify from Group A, with the opposition coming from French Guiana and Canada (who play each other directly before this game) seeming unlikely to trouble.

Jorge Luiz Pinto’s men have a point to prove after a horrendous showing at the last Gold Cup (2015), suffering the humiliation of being eliminated at the group stage. Despite drawing with eventual 3rd place Panama, the Catrachos lost both remaining matches and finished bottom of their group.

The previous Gold Cup was also one to forget for Costa Rica, the Ticos failed to win a single match in the whole tournament, luckily scraping 3 draws against Canada, El Salvador and Jamaica to make it into the second round before being beaten by tournament winners Mexico. Oscar Ramirez will be hoping his side can justify their ‘best of the rest’ tag and challenge for this year’s crown.

Figueroa has 138 caps for his country Photo Credit: skysports.com

Experience can be key in these tournament exchanges and both teams have such an attribute. Honduras can rely on former Wigan Athletic and Hull City defender Maynor Figueroa with 138 caps and Houston Dynamo’s Boniek Garcia with 120 caps in that department. Costa Rica have their own wealth of international experience too, coming from the likes of Michael Umana in defence who recently won his centenary cap, and ex-Fulham playmaker Brian Ruiz who himself will win his 100th cap in this match.

Team News
The major story is that Costa Rica will be without Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, a huge blow as players of such quality come scarcely at this level.

Campbell can star at this years CONCACAF Gold Cup Photo Credit: skysports.com

Player to Watch
Joel Campbell often cuts a frustrated figure; deemed surplus to requirements at Arsenal without ever leaving permanently he has experienced a journeyman career for a man of just 25-years of age – playing in France (Lorient), Spain (Real Betis and Villareal), Greece (Olympiacos) and Portugal (Sporting CP). A strong showing at the World Cup 2014 – where Costa Rica surprised everyone by reaching the quarter-finals – displayed Campbell’s abilities as a forward with a rare blend of pace and power on the ball. In the Gold Cup players with Champions League experience are a commodity and should Campbell find that missing consistency in his game he is unquestionably a real dangerman not just to Honduras but to the entire tournament.

Daily Horse Racing Pro Tips - 1st August 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from two meetings with selections coming from Doncaster and Sandown.

Well what can you say about Green Fortune’s run yesterday, is he a pattern horse in time? I cannot see why not, but for now more than capable running well on the juvenile calendar for the season as he was not that knocked about staying on in the closing stages. On a good note, a nice double landed with Foxy Boy and Hey Gaman doing the business advised at much bigger prices, sadly though the forecast never came off as Falcon’s Vision was out classed to finish third.

13.50 Sandown – JDX ‘Can Do’ Handicap (0-95)  (6.1f)

A very open handicap to start the proceedings at Sandown this afternoon, one in with a big shout is Clive Cox’s Seeking Magic. Despite not recording a win for over eighteen months he has not been running badly, in fact his third at Nottingham last time out would definitely put him in the each way category. Clive Cox won this back in 2014 with Milly’s Gift when ridden by a claimer at the time Ryan Tate, this time around he gives the chance to his son William who has just got over a serious fall on the all-weather when sustaining a hairline fracture to his jaw.

He gets the chance here and is a jockey in a bit of form winning on 2-6 mounts which included a winner at Yarmouth yesterday. His 7lb claim is definitely going to make all the difference and has dropped back to his winning mark. Others to think about are Stuart Williams Shamshon who was seen last autumn winning a 0-95 handicap at Ascot when trained by Jamie Osborne. Joined his new yard at the turn of the year and is still looking to get his head in front, he is still 5lb lower than his Ascot win so has to be respected at this level.

The two progressive types in the race are Zac Brown and Fethiye Boy, the latter trained by Ronald Harris has won three of his six starts this year, his win last time out at Bath saw him overturn the odds on favourite Jashma, another 6lb penalty might not stop his progression, Zac Brown has been on the go since the turn of the year, winning three times on the all-weather and then two runs back when scoring at Goodwood in a 0-85 Handicap, however he was beaten last time at Musselburgh under his 6lb penalty, but still a good run in a competitive 25k race.

With Zac Brown and Fethiye Boy still knowing where the winning line is, it’s hard to oppose them, but I I am going to play each way here with Seeking Magic, as he has slipped to a good mark, has not been running badly and young jockey on board with a valuable 7lb claim and in form.

SEEKING MAGIC : 1pt each way @ 9/1 (BOG)

14.00 Doncaster – Normandie Stud Novices Stakes (6.5f)

Robert Cowell’s yard saddles a nice bred colt here in Dazzle Gold. The sire Lemon Drop Kid won a Group 1 on debut over half a furlong less as a juvenile when landing the Futurity Stakes, he never proceeded that potential when beaten over this trip when only finishing fifth in the Breeders Cup Juvenile. It is a sure thing that he will be green on debut and that the trip on paper could just see him out, will come on for the run no doubt, Morris does not ride that many juveniles for the yard, also the yard are not really re-known for hitting big with their two year old’s.

Charles Hills has pitched in the hotpot here in Mutakatif, I put him up a while back when running second on debut, I deserted him on his second run when beaten at Newbury, back in third was Barraquero who recently hacked up by six lengths at Chepstow, om paper he is the one to beat.

Others to consider is Simon Crisford’s Nobleman’s Nest who is also making his debut. This son of Dark Angel should have no reason to run a sound race under today’s pilot Harry Bentley who is 3-12 this month on winning mounts, but as the winner goes I am sure he is here to ride Roger Varian’s Obeya in the next who is strongly fancied to make a winning debut.

However, the one I have sided with here is Kevin Ryan’s newcomer Jungle Room, the son of Futurity Stakes winner Violence who was only beaten once as a juvenile which came in the Fountain of Youth Stakes, only concerns is can he handle the turf, with the sire only competing on all weather it is a slight worry, but regardless nice pedigree through Giants Causeway so in time he will be wanting 8f.

JUNGLE ROOM : 1pt each way @ 11/2 (BOG) ****

14.20 Sandown – Allied World Dragon Stakes (Listed) (5.1f)

I cannot look beyond the front two in the market here, Havana Grey on the bias of the draw takes the vote over Roussel and Formidable Kitt. He was seriously out of his depth when finishing mid-field in the Norfolk Stakes which to be fair was a hot renewal. We would have to reflect his run when winning the Listed National Stakes here over course and distance, from stall 1 he bounded out and won well from pillar to post, the second home from stall 2 Frozen Angel finished six places ahead of him in the Norfolk, he has bagged stall 2 here which should see him once more bound out to make all on the rails.

Roussel looks his nearest rival, he has been put in as the 7/4 favourite here for Charlie Appleby and James Doyle. He was just denied in the Windsor Castle Stakes going down by a neck to stablemate Sound and Silence, however the draw has not been kind to him from stall 9 and will have to get across very quickly as Havana Grey will be gone.

Formidable Kitt could chase the pair home, though way down the field in the Queen Mary he does have plenty of speed and with only seven lengths between him and the rest of the field in front of him is not a forlorn hope. Dropping to this level could see him rekindle some ability and has bagged a fairly good draw in stall 5.

HAVANA GREY : 2pt Win @ 11/4 (BOG) (NB) ****

15.25 Sandown – Ambant Gala Stakes (Listed)  (9.9f)

Again, I cannot overlook the top two in the market with the favourite at the moment as I write this, being Roger Charlton’s Ayrad, I actually fancied him on seasons re-appearance when running fifth in the Wolferton Handicap at the Royal meeting. It was his handicap debut and even though Ryan Moore had to come widest of all he stayed on with purpose and was probably the eye catcher of the entire field in the closing stages.

This trip is probably slightly on the short side for him as he does stay a mile and a half, this is definitely a drop-in class compare to what his resume shows. His nearest rival comes in Charlie Appleby’s Kidmenever who finished in front of the selection at Ascot, but with Kidmenever having to concede the 5lb back for just three parts of a length its going to be tough to hold the form.

Ryan Moore prefers Spark Plug this afternoon over Ayrad, ran below par when finishing fifth in the Listed Ganton Stakes at York, the trip was far too short and it looked a play of sharpening him up with this in mind, Ayrad beat him in this last year and I just feel Ayrad has more to offer now having a run under his belt.

AYRAD : 3pt Win @ 11/4 (NAP) (BOG) ****

I am boldly going to suggest a win Round Robin on the star highlighted selections (****), every day we are hitting the bar but its going to come off, today could just be the day!

Wimbledon Day 5 - Single's Preview

Wimbledon Day 5 – Single’s Preview – Day five of Wimbledon sees the beginning of the third round of games, as things start to heat up. Both Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray are in action, both knowing that one slip up could cost them a shot at the championship.

Andy Murray V Fabio Fognini

Despite coming in to Wimbledon in sketchy form, Murray has blown away the cobwebs and looks reinvigorated. The world number one avoided what could have been a potential banana skin by beating Dustin Brown in the second-round. The German found himself on the receiving end of a Murray masterclass, with the Scot coming out on top 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Fognini himself came out of his second-round match with victory in straight sets, beating Jiri Vesely 7-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Italian is number 28 in the world, and has made the third round of the competition for the second time in his career.

SKYBET: MURRAY TO WIN- 1/20

SKYBET: FOGNINI TO WIN- 9/1

SKYBET PRICEBOOST: MURRAY TO WIN THE FIRST SET 6-2, 6-2 OR 6-0- 9/4

SKYBET: MURRAY TO SERVE LESS THAN TWO DOUBLE FAULTS- 11/8

Rafael Nadal V Karen Khachanov

Nadal found his second-round date with Daniel Young a formality, as he came out winner in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5. The Spaniard is yet to lose a set at Wimbledon this year, and he’ll be hoping another whitewash is on the cards in round-three.

By contrast Khachanov had to come back from a set behind to win his second-round game. He eventually came out 3-6, 7-6, 7-6, 7-5 winner over Thiago Monteiro. The Brazilian proved to be a tough match for the world number 34, and no doubt Nadal will prove even harder.

SKYBET: NADAL TO WIN- 1/14

SKYBET: KHACHANOV TO WIN- 7/1

SKYBET: NADAL TO WIN AND UNDER 30.5 GAMES- 11/10

SKYBET: NADAL TO WIN 3-0 (SET BETTING)- 8/13

Joe-Wilfried Tsonga V Sam Querrey

Having reached the quarter-finals of last year’s competition, it is no surprise to see Tsonga in the third-round of Wimbledon once again. The world number ten coasted to victory against Simone Bolelli, winning 6-1, 7-5, 6-2. Having reached the semi-final of the competition in 2011 and 2012, the Frenchman will be hoping to try and replicate the sort of form that took him there.

His opponent Sam Querrey produced last year’s shock result, knocking out then Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in the third-round. Now back at the same stage again this year, he will be hoping to produce another upset, and seal a second consecutive place in the fourth-round draw.

SKYBET: TSONGA TO WIN- 4/11

SKYBET: QUERREY TO WIN- 9/4

SKYBET: TSONGA TO WIN 3-2(SET BETTING)- 5/1

SKYBET: BOTH PLAYERS TO WIN A SET(YES)- 1/2

Horse Racing Preview - Pontefract - 9th October 2017

Today’s horse racing preview comes from two meetings, Haydock and Yarmouth. Again hitting the bar with two selections just out matched to finish second, but we have to battle on as they say.

14.30 Haydock – Pilkington Glass EBF Stallions Novices Stakes (6f)

Green Fortune will be the selection here, purely based on the feedback i have received about the horse since his winning debut at Lingfield. It has been positive feedback as they feel he is potentially group class, apparently will go that route after his run in this race.

Green Fortune : 4pt Win @ 9/4 (BOG)

15.30 Haydock – Longlines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Fillies Novices Stakes (6.9f)

David Simcock’s Falcon’s Vision is another potentially listed to pattern future contender; I do not think Jamie Spencer was too hard on her on debut when finishing fourth at Doncaster. Other excuses could have been made due to the ground, will be better here on this quicker surface and Jamie Spencer retakes the mount.

Daniel Tudhope is a jockey that I think rides better away from his main stable, rides out here for James Tate who’s stable are in very good shape at present recording 50% of their past six entries winning. Royal Parks shaped nicely on debut at Yarmouth when finishing fifth in what could turn out to be a useful maiden, Early Dawn who was in front of Royal Parks runs this evening at Newbury, so this form could really be shaken up.

Falcon’s Vision : 2pt Win @ 15/8 (BOG) – Reverse Forecast – Falcon’s Vision & Royal Parks

17.00 Haydock – Supalite Tiled Roof Apprentice Training Series Handicap (0-75)  (5f)

It’s very hard to see past Michael Dods Foxy Boy not notching up his third win on the bounce. He beat Dapper Man on two occasions at Redcar and at Beverley more convincingly and is on a strong upward curve. Even under his double penalty he looks too good for these.

Best of the rest, well these are not the greatest of adversaries to be honest, Roger Fells Muatadel ran a good enough second at Redcar last month, but has to give 3lb to the selection which is not going to help the cause.

Foxy Boy : 3pt Win @ 15/8 (BOG)

13.50 Yarmouth – British Stallion Studs EBF Novices Stakes (6f)

Gotti did the business for the blog last time when winning under Gerard Mosse, but under a penalty he may find things much tougher this time around. I am finding it difficult to see Hugo Palmer’s Arbalet winning here. He was given a very soft ride by James Doyle last time when the race had gone beyond him, coming as a closer,  the winner had already stole a winning margin, Josephine Gordon gets the chance of rectifying that issue, but I do think he is vulnerable.

Hey Gaman ran well as expected when midfield in the Listed Chesham Stakes, probably a bit ambitious by trainer and connections, drops back into Novice company and deserves his chances to get back to winning ways, the booking of Martin Harley just swung it for me ahead of Arbalet.

Hey Gaman : 2pt Win @ 5/2 (BOG)

Best of luck, Gamble Responsibly

Wimbledon Day 4 - Single's Preview

Wimbledon Day 4 – Single’s Preview – Novak Djokovic and Rodger Federer are back in action as they look to seal their passage in to the third round of Wimbledon. Both are bound to be in for a tougher game than their previous, as both of their opponents were forced to retire through injury.

Here’s a look at what’s in store on day four of Wimbledon.

Roger Federer V Dusan Lajovic

Just a set up in to his opening game, Federer found his first-round tie brought to an abrupt halt. After convincingly taking the first set 6-0, and comfortably leading the second set 3-0, his opponent Alexandr Dolgopolov retired with an ankle injury.

Lajovic is bound to provide a much sterner test, by just managing to complete the full game. The Serb came through his first-round match again Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. In what is only his fourth ever Wimbledon tournament, Lajovic has reached the second round for only the second time, and has never made it to the third.

SKYBET: FEDERER TO WIN1/100

SKYBET: LAJOVIC TO WIN20/1

SKYBET: FEDERER TO WIN 3-0(SET BETTING)- 2/9

SKYBET: GAMES HANDICAP ROGER FEDERER (-8.5)- 4/5

Novak Djokovic V Adam Pavlasek

Like Federer, Djokovic was only briefly in action on day two of Wimbledon. His opponent Martin Klizan was forced to retire, with Djokovic in cruise control, leading 6-3, 2-0. A calf injury that was visibly restricting the Slovakian was just too much for him to shake off, and Djokovic sailed through to the second round.

Pavlasek’s journey to the second-round was a little tougher than his Serbian counterpart. The Czech came from a set down to beat American E Escobedo 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1. Having only turned professional in 2012, this is his first ever Wimbledon campaign, so he’ll have very little to lose as underdog for this game.

SKYBET: DJOKOVIC TO WIN- 1/100

SKYBET: PAVLASEK TO WIN- 20/1

SKYBET: TOTAL GAMES (UNDER 27.5)- 4/5

SKYBET: TOTAL SETS (3)- 1/4

Milos Raonic V Mikhail Youzhny

World number six Raonic had to endure a tougher than expected game in the first round. The Canadian defeated Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6, 6-2, 7-2, to secure his place in the second-round of Wimbledon.

Youzny himself defeated Nicolas Mahut in straight sets, coming out 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 winner. The Russian finds himself in the second-round of the competition for the first time in his career.

After reaching the final last year, it would be a major shock to see Raonic crash out so early, and I expect to see him in the draw for the third-round.

SKYBET: RAONIC TO WIN- 1/16

SKYBET: YOUZHNY TO WIN- 8/1

SKYBET: RAONIC TO WIN 3-0(SET BETTING)- 4/7

SKYBET: TOTAL GAMES (UNDER 31.5)- 1/1
