Cardiff vs Burnley
Sunday 30th
 September 2018
FA Premier League, Cardiff City Stadium

Live on Sky Sports Premier League – Kick-Off: 16:00 GMT

Cardiff vs Burnley – In what is already a six-pointer, Cardiff host Burnley in a relegation battle with both sides desperate for three points.

Burnley picked up a first win of the season last time out in a surprising 4-0 hammering of high-flying Bournemouth. Other than that, it has been clear to see there is some previous season and Europa League burnout. Sean Dyche’s side have looked completely distant from the team that finished seventh last year.

Not to mention the humiliating exit to struggling League One side Burton Albion in this week’s Carabao Cup. Before beating Bournemouth, The Clarets’ only point of the season came in a 0-0 draw with Southampton. Dyche will be hoping Saturday was indicative of future performances, not Tuesday. Sitting in 16th, no one is expecting Burnley to replicate last season’s achievements, but wins need to come, and fast.

In contrast, it was always going to be a struggle for newly promoted Cardiff City. Neil Warnock worked wonders last season to promote the South-Welsh side on a small budget compared to rivals. As such, Cardiff found themselves favourites for the drop. The first six games have done nothing to change anyone’s opinion on that, with just two points so far.

Those came against Huddersfield and Newcastle, in 0-0 draws. Perhaps more worrying, is that the relegation zone consists of those three sides. Cardiff are 19th, ahead of Huddersfield, but only based on alphabetical order. Both teams have conceded a league-worst total of 14 goals, whilst scoring the fewest amount with three too. The signs look ominous for The Bluebirds with a squad that looks devoid of the necessary quality needed to survive.

Then all signs point to this being billed as an incredibly important fixture. Burnley need to win to stamp an authority over supposed lesser teams, whilst Cardiff will see this as a vital opportunity to secure their first win back in the Premier League. Home form against rivals is so often a defining factor in a team’s attempts to avoid relegation.

Perhaps surprisingly, Burnley’s issue has not been scoring goals, but conceding them. However, with a strong backline of Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and an in-form Joe Hart, that should come good. Matej Vydra scored his first for the club last week, and if the Czech international can resume his scintillating form from last season, albeit in the Championship with Derby, then Burnley have a player on their hands.

Martin Atkinson has refereed in every Premier League matchweek so far, and will be the man at the helm here. Atkinson has given out 21 yellows and no reds so far, averaging just 3.5 cards per game. Only four teams have received more than Cardiff’s eight yellows, with Burnley’s figure just three more. The signs point to low booking points. However, in what will surely be a combative game, that could all change.

This may not be the most exciting match the Premier League has to offer. This may not showcase the highest quality players the league has to offer. It will, however, be an intense battle between two teams desperate to put three points on the board. It will come down to who wants it more.

Cardiff vs Burnley will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Premier League with kick off at 19:45 GMT.

SkyBet Championship, New York Stadium

Live on Sky Sports Football – Kick-Off: 17:30 GMT

Rotherham United will entertain Stoke City this weekend in the SkyBet Championship.

Neither side has had an exciting start to the season, sharing 18thand 19thspot respectively. Rotherham would have expected a shaky start as they will aim for survival come the end of the season. However, Gary Rowett has been a picture of frustration as his Stoke side have been far from expectations.

Rotherham are the clear underdogs despite their home advantage and are priced at 5/2 by SkyBet. Goals have been scarce for the hosts with six goals. None of their attackers have taken the bull by the horns but most of the eyes will turn to Michael Smith for a goal. The striker netted once against Ipswich and hasn’t found the net since. He’s priced at 5/2 to turn his luck around and score anytime.

Defensively The Millers have also struggled. They’ve conceded 14 goals already and conceded 2+ goals in 44% of their outings. Stoke are priced at 10/11 to score twice or more.

The referee for this match will be David Webb. The official shouldn’t have too much trouble with this encounter. He has only awarded an average of 25 booking points in his 6 Championship matches.

Stoke are priced at 11/10 by SkyBet – a great price for an accumulator. Gary Rowett has not had the desired effect on the squad as they currently sit 18thwith nine points from nine games. One of few shining sparks for The Potters has been Benik Afobe. The striker has already bagged for goals and has backed up his £12 million price tag. He’s priced at 7/2 to score first.

Along with Afobe, Ryan Woods has been a fantastic acquisition that has fit right into the middle of the park. Woods has given the defence a little more stability. Stoke are 5/2 to win to nil, with the Woods effect being a crucial one.

Rotherham United vs Stoke City will be televised on Sky Sports Football HD and kicks off at 17:30.

Prediction: Rotherham United 0 – Stoke City 3

– It’s about time Stoke showed their class. Rotherham will little to offer and could get found out defensively by Afobe.

Chelsea vs Liverpool
Saturday 29th
 September 2018
FA Premier League, Stamford Bridge

Live on BT Sport 1 – Kick-Off: 17:30 GMT

Chelsea vs Liverpool: Liverpool will be desperate to maintain their 100% start to the league and inflict revenge on Chelsea after the Blues knocked them out of the Carabao Cup in midweek.

The introduction of Eden Hazard from the bench moved Chelsea into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. The Belgian scored a phenomenal solo goal which completed their turnaround in a 2-1 victory at Anfield. Maurizio Sarri made eight changes to the side that drew with West Ham at the weekend, showing his focus lies on the league. The 0-0 draw against the Hammers was the Blues first dropped points of the season, leaving them two points behind their next opposition who top the table. After his fine cameo display on Wednesday, Hazard has reignited speculation over a move to Real Madrid. In my view, he is now ready to make that next step. His goal typified everything good about Hazard; his dribbling ability, coupled with his low centre of gravity and strength. He is a nightmare for any defenders he faces.

That defeat was the Reds first this season, although Jurgen Klopp also made multiple changes. He will restore his full-strength side on Saturday, as they look to move five points clear of their hosts. Having already won at Wembley this season, Liverpool will be confident of producing another top away performances against one of the league’s big boys. Klopp’s main dilemma is whether to keep faith with Joel Matip, now free of injury after starting the last two games, or bring back Joe Gomez, who has impressed early on this season. Given their fine defensive record, I think Klopp will side with the Englishman, who has looked solid this campaign. In attack Roberto Firmino will return, having fully recovered from the eye injury he sustained against Spurs. Chelsea will have to be wary of the Brazilian, alongside Mohamad Salah and Sadio Mane in attack.

Andre Marriner is the referee for this Saturday tea-time clash. The Englishman has taken charge of five top-flight matches this season, accumulating an average booking points total of 32. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total points for this fixture.

Whilst defeat in midweek will have disappointed Klopp, this fixture is a completely different test. Both sides will field their strongest XIs, which should make for a fine spectacle. Liverpool have got to keep Hazard quiet; he showed at Anfield what he can produce in just a matter of seconds. If he is at his best, I think Chelsea could sneak a win in this one, although it will be tight.

Chelsea vs Liverpool will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport with kick off at 17:30 GMT.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool

Suggested tips – Chelsea vs Liverpool – (BET365):

  • Correct Score – Chelsea win 2-1 – (link no longer available).

Suggested tips – Chelsea vs Liverpool – (SKYBET):

  • Hazard to score and win – 10/3.
  • Salah and Firmino to both score – 11/2.
  • BTTS and FT draw – 3/1.

West Ham United vs Manchester United
Saturday 29th
 September 2018
FA Premier League, The London Stadium

Live on BT Sport 1 – Kick-Off: 12:30 GMT

West Ham vs Manchester United : The visitors will be looking to return to winning ways in the when they face West Ham, who will be buoyed by their draw with Chelsea last weekend.

The Hammers held Maurizio Sarri’s side to an impressive 0-0 draw. That result secured four points from two tricky matches, which moved them off the bottom of the league. Manuel Pellegrini’s side now sit in 17thplace, two points above the relegation zone. The main disappointment for West Ham has been their home form this season; they’re still yet to win in front of their own fans in the league. Although a draw against Chelsea was a good result, they lost to both Bournemouth and Wolves earlier in the season. Pellegrini will be desperate to secure that first home win, to relieve some of the early pressure he has faced. They did secure their first home win in all competition in midweek, however, as they beat Macclesfield 8-0 in the Carabao Cup, their biggest win in over 50 years.

Manchester United struggled last weekend after three wins on the bounce, as they drew 1-1 with Wolves. Jose Mourinho was highly critical of his side, accusing some players of performing at 30%. Although their showings have improved in recent weeks, United are already eight points behind Liverpool. Even at this early stage of the season, that is a big blow. Alexis Sanchez’s below-par form has typified their form; one week a seven out of ten, the next a four. To make matters worse, his side were beaten on penalties by Derby County as they crashed out of the Carabao Cup. It took a Mouraine Fellaini header in stoppage time to force penalties after United had Sergio Romero sent off.

Michael Oliver is the referee for Saturday’s early kick-off. The Englishman has officiated five top-flight matches this season, accumulating an average booking points total of 28. Therefore, I would advise a maximum total of 40 for this game.

West Ham have improved drastically in recent weeks, although they’re yet to win at home in the league. They sat deep against Chelsea, and they may adopt a similar tactic this weekend against United. I still think Mourinho’s men will win the game, though, but it might be closer than some would expect.

West Ham United vs Manchester United will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 1 with kick off at 12:30 GMT.

Prediction: West Ham United 1-2 Manchester United

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United
Friday 28th
 September 2018
SkyBet Championship, Hillsborough

Live on Sky Sports Football – Kick-Off: 19:45 GMT

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United: The visitors take a trip to Hillsborough to face Wednesday, looking to extend their lead at the top of the Championship.

The Owls bounced back from defeat in midweek with a 2-1 win at Villa Park on Saturday. Those two results summed up Wednesday’s start to the campaign. They currently sit in tenth, two points off the top six, having collected 13 points from their last six games. That record makes them the joint most in-form side in the division; it’s an initial slow start that has cost them.

Jos Luhukay reverted to a back three at Villa Park, so it will be interesting to see how he sets his side up against the league leaders. Leeds will have to be wary of midfield maestro Barry Bannan if they’re to secure a positive result. The Scotsman has been one of the league’s star players so far this campaign, which saw him collect the August goal of the month award. They also welcome back Fernando Forestieri, who has missed the last three games through suspension.

Leeds will be without Patrick Bamford, Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez. They suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City last weekend and will be keen to make amends. Without Roofe and Bamford, Leeds have lacked a goal threat up front. Youngster Tyler Roberts has deputised in that role, but at the age of 19, he still has a lot to learn. Still, Leeds are top of the league for a reason, and Samuel Saiz will be key to getting them back on track at S6. Marco Bielsa’s side will always play the same style of football, which should make for a fascinating spectacle on Frida night.

Robert Jones is the referee for Friday’s Yorkshire derby. The Englishman has officiated six Championship fixture this season, accumulating an average booking points total of 38.3. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total booking points for this fixture.

Wednesday are unbeaten at home in the league this season, and are one of the most in-form sides in the division, alongside Leeds. The visitors are without a win in two matches, coinciding with the loss of Roofe and Bamford. As a result, I think this game could be a draw, although I could see the hosts nicking the match.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Football with kick off at 19:45 GMT.

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Leeds United

Suggested Tips – Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United – (BET365):

  • Correct score: draw 1-1 – 11/2.

(Alternative market: both players to have 1+ shots on target each – 6/5. Also available at 16/1 and 11/1 for both players to score and draw respectively).

Liverpool vs Chelsea
Wednesday 26th
 September 2018
Carabao Cup, Third Round, Anfield

Live on Sky Sports Football – Kick-Off: 19:45 GMT

Liverpool vs Chelsea: Liverpool host Chelsea in the third round of the Carabao Cup, in the first of a doubleheader between the two sides.

Liverpool maintained their 100% start to the season with a 3-0 win over Southampton at the weekend. Jurgen Klopp rotated his side, with Xherdan Shaqiri coming into the team, alongside Mohamad Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The Swiss international provided a timely reminder of Liverpool’s increased strength in depth, putting in a fantastic 45-minute performance. Operating in the number ten position, Shaqiri almost capped his performance off with a stunning free-kick which crashed against the underside of the bar. That win kept Liverpool at the top of the league, with seven wins from seven. The Reds have a tough run of fixtures coming up, with two games against Chelsea before they face Napoli and Manchester City. After this sequence of games, we may have a better idea where Klopp’s side are at, and if they can genuinely challenge both domestically and in Europe.

Chelsea surrendered their 100% start to the campaign with a 0-0 draw against West Ham on Sunday. It was a frustrating afternoon for Maurizio Sarri’s side, who created several clear-cut opportunities but couldn’t find a finish. The result leaves them third in the league table, level on points with Manchester City. Sarri has had a good start to life in London; Chelsea are performing a lot better than most expected at this early stage.

Sarri will need time to implement his new philosophy, but the signs so far have been encouraging. They still lack a world-class number nine; somebody capable of winning a game on his own, as Diego Costa could. Giroud lacks mobility, although he is a great asset to have off the bench, whilst Morata is yet to really find his feet in England. If they’re to win the title or compete in the Champions League (in future seasons), they need someone with a bit more of an edge up front.

Kevin Friend is the referee for this game. The Englishman has officiated four top flight fixtures this season, accumulating the league’s lowest average booking points total of 15. Therefore, I would recommend an maximum of 40+ total match booking points for this game.

This fixture will be much harder to gauge than the one at Stamford Bridge at the weekend. With that match in mind, both managers are likely to rotate their squads, to varying degrees of strength. As Liverpool are the home side, I think I will side with them for a narrow win, although it is really dependant on the two starting lineups.

Liverpool vs Chelsea will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Football with kick off at 19:45 GMT.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

Suggested tips – Liverpool vs Chelsea – (SKYBET):

  • Price Boost – Correct Score – Liverpool win 2-1 – 15/2.
  • Winning Margin – Liverpool to win by exactly one goal – 11/4.
  • Both Players to score – Oliver Giroud and Daniel Sturridge – 6/1.
  • RequestABet Specials up to 10/1 – BTTS, 4+ corners each team and 20+ booking points each team – 9/1.

Carabao Cup, Third Round, Old Trafford

Live on Sky Sports Football – Kick-Off: 20:00 GMT

Manchester United vs Derby County is Tuesday night’s pick of the third round fixtures of the Carabao Cup.

Despite not being involved in the fixture, this will mark a special occasion for Chelsea fans. Jose Mourinho will be in the opposite dug out to Frank, as they face off for the first time as managers.

Both clubs have had decent starts to their league campaigns, with neither setting the world alight.

Manchester United are priced at 1/4 by Bet365 to win this match. The Premier League outfit will hope to build on their frustrating 1-1 draw with Wolves. New signing Fred scored the goal, however it is likely United will be looking to Romelu Lukaku or Anthony Martial this Tuesday night for a moment of magic. The towering Belgian is 3/1 to score first with Bet365 – great odds for the striker who is sure to challenge the Rams backline physically.

One statistic that will grind away at Jose Mourinho is their goal difference in the league. Whilst they have found the net nine times, they have also conceded just as many. One market worth thinking about is for both teams to score at 6/5.

Derby are priced at 14/1 to cause an upset. Frank Lampard is enjoying life with the Rams and has led them to sixth in the Championship so far. His summer business has impressed many, with midfielder Mason Mount attracting a lot of attention. Tom Lawrence and Harry Wilson are players that have also improved massively under Lampard’s guidance. Wilson found the net in their last outing against Brentford and is 6/1 to score anytime.

Derby are going to find it tricky to hold out this Manchester United side, who Mourinho will be telling to be ruthless in attack and should have the lion’s share of possession. However, if you like backing the underdog, then draw no bet on Derby returns 10/1.

The man in the middle for this encounter is yet to be confirmed by the EFL website. However, whoever it is could have a busy night ahead, as Manchester United have averaged 25 booking points per league match and Derby have averaged 28.3.

Manchester United vs Derby County will be televised on Sky Sports Football HD and will kick off at 20:00.

Prediction: Manchester United 2 – 1 Derby County

Suggested tips – Manchester United vs Derby County – (SKYBET):

  • Price Boost – Correct Score – Manchester United win 2-1 – 10/1.
  • Method of Victory – Manchester United to win on penalties – 11/1.
  • Correct Score Group Betting – Manchester United win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 13/8.
  • Popular RequestABets -Over 1.5 goals, 5+ Manchester Utd corners, 3+ Derby corners and 10+ booking points each team – 3/1. (NAP).

West Ham United vs Chelsea – Table-toppers Chelsea make the short trip to London rivals West Ham hoping to make it six wins from six.

Mauricio Sarri has enjoyed a wonderful start to life at Stamford Bridge, leading his side to five consecutive league victories. Such a good start in fact, that should Chelsea win on Sunday it would only be the fifth time that a side has won their opening six Premier League fixtures (Liverpool also have the opportunity to do so a day before).

There has been a vastly different style shift from previous boss Antonio Conte, which the players seem to buy into. The figurehead, as ever, has been Eden Hazard. The Belgian superstar has been in scintillating form, leading the division’s scoring charts with five goals so far. The increased freedom has allowed Hazard to flourish, also ranking first in the league for touches, successful dribbles and passes in the final third. Exactly the areas you want a player with such quality in.

Much of the talk surrounding the league title has centred around holders Manchester City and the appointed challengers Liverpool. In the same vein that Liverpool are winning without hitting top gear, the same could be said for Chelsea. Again, like Liverpool, when the attacking play clicks it is devastating and almost impossible to stop. No one has netted more than The Blues’ 14 league goals this term.

With a new system and players with reinstated belief, Chelsea are surely only going to get better. And if they do, then it would be foolish to dismiss their title chances.

Things couldn’t be much more different for West Ham. Excitement was rife in the West Ham camp after a summer of seemingly impressive recruitment. None seemed better than the appointment of former Premier League winning manager Manuel Pellegrini. However, football just doesn’t always work out that easy. Four losses from the opening four games rooted West Ham to the bottom of the table.

Light at the end of the tunnel came in the form of last week’s 3-1 victory at Everton. New signing Andriy Yarmolenko got his first start for the club and marked it with a brilliant brace. His talent alongside the increasingly consistent and effective Marko Arnautovic could be a force to be reckoned with.

That win took West Ham out of the relegation zone and into 16th. The project at West Ham is undoubtedly to look up the table, not worry about what is below. If the ability in the squad is realised there is no reason The Hammers can’t secure at least a top ten finish. If it doesn’t, it could be a gruelling season on a high wage bill. Pellegrini has his work cut out.

Taking charge of a fourth Premier League game of the season, is well-known referee Mike Dean. Dean has had a very busy start to the season, giving red cards out in two of his three games. Which could spell trouble as no side has received more cards than West Ham’s huge total of 18. That is in complete contrast to Chelsea, who have a league-leading disciplinary record of just four yellows.

The London Stadium will play host to what will surely be an exciting game filled with attacking football. Sarri’s side may be slightly tired after midweek European excursions (beating PAOK 1-0), but Chelsea should have too much quality. Especially if a certain diminutive Belgian is anywhere near his best.

West Ham United vs Chelsea will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Football with kick off at 13:30.

Live on Sky Sports Football – Kick-Off: 16:00 GMT

Arsenal vs Everton: Arsenal will be looking for a fourth straight victory when they take on Everton, who will want to bounce back from defeat last weekend.

The Gunners extended their unbeaten run to four matches with a 4-2 midweek win over Vorskla Poltava. Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil sealed the win, as Unai Emery named a strong line-up. Ozil’s strike made it two goals in as many games, as he tries to establish himself in Emery’s long-term plans. Whilst it was another important win on Thursday, Everton will prove a much stronger test for Arsenal. The worrying statistic behind their start to the season is they are yet to keep a clean sheet. Even on Thursday, they leaked two goals, which will concern Emery. Yes, the Gunners are trying to adapt to a new style at the back, but they are making a lot of basic defensive errors. If they want to carry on progressing and challenge for the top four, then they must improve in defence.

Everton suffered a surprising defeat at home to Everton last Sunday. The Toffees found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-1 scoreline, having gifted the Hammers a two-goal lead. Jordan Pickford was at fault for the second; needlessly giving possession away which allowed Andriy Yarmolenko to double their lead. With Yerry Mina and Michael Keane both injured, Mason Holgate and Kurt Zouma formed a young defensive pair. Without the experience of Keane or even Phil Jagielka, they struggled to keep West Ham’s attackers at bay. Like Arsenal, Everton are adapting to a more expansive, attacking style, but as a result, they are vulnerable defensively. They welcome back Richarlison from suspension for this game, which could be key if they need to outscore Arsenal.

Jonathan Moss is the referee for this game. The Englishman has officiated four games in the top flight this campaign, accumulating an average booking points total of 40. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 50+ total booking points for this fixture.

Both teams have looked dangerous in attack, but shambolic in defence. For the neutral, this should make for a great game. Arsenal are in much better form than the visitors, however, and I think that will see them win this game.

Arsenal vs Everton will be televised live in-the UK on Sky Sports Football with kick-off at 16:00 GMT.

Prediction: Arsenal 3-1 Everton

Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspur: Tottenham will be looking to bounce back from three consecutive defeats when they face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday night.

Defeat in midweek against Inter Milan made it the first time Tottenham had lost three games in a row under Mauricio Pochettino. The Italian’s comeback from one goal down raised questions over Spurs’ inability to defend set pieces. Pochettino himself was criticised, having left both Toby Alderweireld and Keiran Trippier in London for ‘technical reasons’. The truth is that Tottenham lack a midfield general. Eric Dier doesn’t have the mobility to compete against the top teams, whilst Moussa Dembele is too offensive minded. Spurs have lacked a real holding midfielder since Scott Parker. Someone with athleticism and discipline, who can control that central area.

Against Liverpool, this showed. Harry Winks, Dier and Dembele were overrun by the Reds more energetic, vibrant midfield trio. Their defeat against Watford could be put down as complacency, but against Liverpool and Inter there was a serious lack of quality from Pochettino’s men. That will have to change if they are to claim another top-four finish and progress in Europe.

Brighton came back from two behind on Monday night as they drew 2-2 at Southampton. The Seagulls struggled in the first 45 and found themselves 2-0 down thanks to goals from Pierre-Emile Hoijberg and Danny Ings. However, in true Brighton fashion, their big players came up trumps. Shane Duffy pulled one back before Glenn Murray sealed the comeback with a 90th-minute penalty. That result leaves them in 14th place, with five points from as many games. At home is where they prosper; the Amex Stadium has become a very difficult place to go and win. Therefore, this is not the ideal trip Tottenham could have asked for.

Chris Kavanagh is the referee for this match. The Englishman has officiated three top-flight games this season, accumulating an average booking points total of 26.7. Therefore, I would advise a maximum of 40+ total booking points for this fixture.

This is one of the last game Pochettino will have fancied, having lost their last three. Chris Hughton’s side always make it difficult for visiting sides and will have their tails up, given Spurs’ form. As a result, I’m going to edge for a score draw in this one.

Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspur will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 2 with kick-off at 17:30.

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
