Manchester City return to Premier League action this weekend when they welcome high-flyers Leicester City to the Etihad on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be hoping to pick up all three points, and close the gap on Leicester, who currently sit above them in the Premier League standings.

City made it through the quarter-final of the Carabao cup in midweek following their win over Oxford, but attention will immediately turn to Premier League action, and the huge clash with the Foxes on Saturday. City bounced back from their Manchester derby defeat by winning convincingly away at Arsenal. Kevin De Bruyne starred in the 3-0 win, scoring twice and showing why he’s one of the best performers in the division.

Leicester on the other hand were thwarted by strugglers Norwich in their last outing in the Premier league. Brendan Rodgers side were held 1-1 at home, which ended their eight-match winning run. Rodgers will be keen for his side to bounce back from their stalemate, and will believe that Saturday’s game is winnable, considering City’s tentative home form this season.

Last seasons Champions have lost twice at home this season and have drawn once dropping eight points in total; more than they managed at home for the entirety of last seasons campaign.

There’s an added incentive ahead of this fixture, as current league leaders Liverpool won’t be playing this weekend. The reds are currently in Qatar, on the hunt to add the club world cup to their cabinet for the first time in their history. Saturday provides a chance for both sides to claw back some points on Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title.

The last time these two sides met, former City captain Vincent Kompany stole the show with a stunning late winner, which all but secured City’s fate as champions. Pep Guardiola’s side have won six of the last seven meetings between the two sides, their only defeat coming last season on boxing day. Ricardo Pereira’s late strike secured all three points for the Foxes. Leicester haven’t won at the Etihad in almost four years, but their last win was a meaningful one on their way to their first Premier League title.

Everton will host Arsenal that promises to have just as many on the pitch stories as off it this Saturday lunchtime in the Premier League.

The hosts have had managerial switch arounds in recent weeks but will have their eyes firmly set on climbing up the table – with an out of sorts Arsenal in their way. Meanwhile, Arsenal are also in a similar off the pitch predicament and are looking to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Middlesbrough return to the Riverside on Friday night as they welcome fellow strugglers Stoke City in the Championship.

To say Middlesbrough could do with a win is an understatement. Johnathan Woodgate has seen his side win only four times this season, which has got his side looking anxiously over their shoulder. Boro come into Friday evenings encounter looking for a win following the 3-1 defeat away to Swansea on Saturday.

Stoke on the other hand are adjusting to life under new management following Michael O’Neill’s appointment in November. Since the former Northern Ireland managers arrival, Stoke have won three, drawn three and lost one, which has seen them rise from the foot of the table. Arsenal look to record back-to-back wins in the Premier League this Sunday when they welcome Manchester City to the Emirates.

The Gunners claimed their first Premier League win in nine matches last time round, when they defeated West Ham 3-1 at the London Stadium. They were however held in midweek to Belgian side Standard Liege in the Europa League. Arsenal trailed for large parts but two late strikes from Alexandre Lacazette and Bukayo Saka ensured a share of the spoils.

A win for Arsenal on Sunday would be only the second time this season they have registered back-to-back wins. The Gunners haven’t done so since the middle of August.

Manchester City on the other hand will be looking to bounce back from their Manchester Derby defeat to neighbours Manchester United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side inflicted City’s fourth defeat of the season already after only sixteen matches. Pep Guardiola’s side lost four matches throughout the whole campaign last season. City have lost twice at home and twice on the road this season.

City did however enjoy a midweek win in the Champions league. Gabriel Jesus’ hat-trick along with Phil Foden’s second half strike sealed a 4-1 away win to Dinamo Zagreb.

Before Sunday’s clash City could find themselves an enormous seventeen points behind league leaders Liverpool. The reds face bottom of the league Watford on Saturday lunchtime, and will be expected to come away with all three points.

Last season Manchester City completed a league double over Arsenal, winning 3-1 at home, and 2-0 at the Emirates. City have won the last five matches between the pair and are unbeaten in the Premier League against Arsenal for almost four years. Arsenal’s most recent win came in the FA Cup in 2017, where they were 2-1 winners at Wembley. Pep Guardiola has never lost to Arsenal in the Premier League.

Manchester United host Everton in Premier League action this Sunday as they look to continue their rich vein of form.

The Reds are entering this match on the back of two huge scalps against Tottenham and their rivals Manchester City. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to be impressing in the hot seat, for now. Meanwhile, Everton are still searching for a permanent manager and Duncan Ferguson will take charge of this one with his side deep in the bottom half of the table.

Southampton return to St Mary’s this weekend as they welcome West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side will be keen to get points on the board following their disappointing defeat to Newcastle last weekend. The Saints led that game, but were undone by goals from Jonjo Shelley, and Federico Fernandez late on.

West Ham will too be looking for a more positive result this week, as they were defeated 3-1 at home by Arsenal on Monday evening. The Hammers’ were themselves guilty of squandering a lead. Their nine-minute capitulation which saw them concede three goals was a disappointment for all concerned.

We may not be at Christmas yet, but this affair could have a meaningful say in the race to stay in the Premier League. Both sides find themselves anxiously looking over their shoulder. Southampton are 18th, meanwhile West Ham are two places better off in 16th. A win for either will be a welcomed boost.

Despite Southampton’s position, their form in the last few weeks has been a positive. The Saints have picked up seven points out of a possible twelve in their last four matches, which include the draw away to Arsenal, and back to back wins against Watford and Norwich.

West Ham on the other hand have lost five of their last six, which has piled the pressure on boss Mauricio Pellegrini. They have won once in the league since September, and that came at the end of November against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Premier League leaders Liverpool will look to extend their gap at the top further as they host relegation threatened Watford on Saturday.

The Reds are eight points ahead of the rest and are unbeaten after 16 matches in the league. More incredibly, they are unbeaten in 48 home Premier League matches – so yeah, good luck Watford. The Hornets are at the other end of the spectrum, rock bottom, and in desperate need of a win that will be hard to come by at Anfield.

Liverpool are clear favourites for this match and are priced at 1/5 to win by SkyBet. Jurgen Klopp’s side simply look unbeatable in the Premier League – even when they don’t play that well. Birmingham City look to return to winning ways in the Championship when they host West Bromwich Albion at St Andrews on Saturday.

The Blues’ midweek defeat at home to QPR was their first loss since early November, a five-match unbeaten run. Pep Clotet’s side currently occupy 15^th place in the Championship.
