Horse Racing Preview - Kempton - 6th November 2017

Today’s horse racing preview selections come on the all weather at Kempton.

14.20 Kempton – 32Red On The App Store Fillies Handicap (8f)

LUCY THE PAINTER (92)
Tai Hang Dragon (82)
Lady Lydia (82)

Ed de Giles five year old has plummeted at the weights and has not seen a winning enclosure for the past nineteen runs, however her all weather form reads 3-5 and despite her poor run which has mainly come on turf she was seen here over course and distance back in the spring when not running a true race finishing second last to Aljazzi in the Listed Snowdrop Fillies Stakes. That winner went on to land the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes.

She has dropped to a mark of 80 for the first time since the spring of 2015, her main form does come around the spring, however this mark is very exploitable being 12lb lower than she has been contending over the past season and a half. Tai Hang Dragon probably has a better chance of winning this afternoon with Sean Levey on board. Levey has a reasonable stat form on her and I think you could disregard her last run at Newmarket as it honestly felt Ryan Moore was totally dis-interested in putting her into the race.

Lady Lydia will probably being playing catch up with the field, she has a lot to find with a few of these, however this is a very open contest for me so the results recently could bring a big run out of her regardless.

LUCY THE PAINTER : 1pt each way @ 12/1 (BOG)

15.50 Kempton – 32Red.com Handicap (6f)

KASBAH (92)
Sir Ottoman (91)
Fast Track (91)

I could not split several of these to be fair and this is a very tight knit contest, David Barron’s Fast Track was seen running a cracker off 89 when behind the likes of Solar Flair and Stellarta, he was strangely dropped to the optimum at Chelmsford when beaten just a length and a quarter. He has fairly good form on the all weather and I would expect a bold showing again.

Sir Ottoman represents Ivan Furtado, the ex French trained four year old has failed to shine since landing in the UK, but the most eye catching is this a selling tactic with Luke Morris being booked on a 25/1 shot, if she does not shine here I feel we could see her in a seller or claimer.

On to the selection, trained by Amanda Perratt his last visit here saw him finishing fourth to Hakam, he was also seen that day finished behind Solar Flair and Stellarta, ridden by Jack Mitchell that day he was outpaced very quickly and finished off the race one pace, Jack Mitchell gets the ride again which is not the most positive thing to see, however he has the ability to run above this caliber of adversaries.

KASBAH : 1pt each way @ 10/1 (BOG)

West Ham United vs Liverpool - Match Preview

West Ham United vs Liverpool – Match Preview – West Ham host Liverpool at the London Stadium this Saturday in Premier League action.

The hosts enter the match having been unbeaten in their previous two matches whilst Liverpool are fresh from their midweek Champions League success. West Ham most recently drew with bottom of the Premier League Crystal Palace, however were leading until the 97th minute when Wilfried Zaha grabbed a dramatic late equaliser for Roy Hodgson’s side.

Liverpool have enjoyed two consecutive 3-0 victories, against Huddersfield and most recently Maribor. Goals from Mo Salah, Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge were enough to see Liverpool top their UEFA Champions League group, however it could have been more but the usually reliable James Milner missed a penalty.

Both sides are suffering with injuries as West Ham are likely to be without James Collins and Diafra Sakho. Liverpool have a much longer list of absentees with the likes of Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane still side-lined as well as Coutinho and Dejan Lovren also being unlikely to feature.

West Ham are currently sitting just above the relegation zone in the Premier League with nine points from ten games. Both scoring goals and not letting them in have been the key issues for Slaven Bilic’s side, who many believe doesn’t have long left in the Hammers hot seat. Summer signing, Javier Hernandez, hasn’t had the big entrance to his West Ham career that many were anticipating but has seemed to settle in recent weeks. The Mexican scored the opener in their previous match before Andre Ayew doubled the lead with a contender for goal of the month. Those two will remain vital to West Ham’s chances this weekend.

Skybet Match Result – West Ham to Win – 4/1

Salah has 5 goals so far for Liverpool this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side have felt plenty of pressure in recent weeks following more defensive blunders. The Merseyside club have conceded 16 goals in their 10 Premier League matches thus far; making them the sixth leakiest defence in the league. However, despite their defence struggling their attack is still a very dangerous one to face with summer signing Mo Salah leading the way for the Reds. The Eygptian has scored five and set up two so far in the league and has been a joy to watch. He has the potential to be the difference.

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Liverpool to Win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 – 4/1

Stoke City vs Leicester City - Match Preview

Stoke City vs Leicester City – Match Preview – Both of these teams will be looking for back to back wins as they meet at the Bet365 Stadium. Claude Puel will be hoping to continue his 100% start as manager of Leicester with another win against Stoke.

With pressure beginning to grow on Mark Hughes, Stoke’s 1-0 win at Watford last weekend was timely. The Potters’ boss had begun to draw criticism from supporters following Stoke’s stuttering start to the new campaign. Darren Fletcher’s first goal for the club secured three points and they will be hoping to back that up with a win in front of their own crowd on Saturday. If they could get that victory it would be the first time they have secured back to back league wins all season. It would also be the club’s third home win of the campaign.

Leicester got off to the perfect start under Puel last time out with a 2-0 win over Everton. Jamie Vardy scored the first goal of the Frenchman’s reign, just as he did under his predecessors Claudio Ranieri and Craig Shakespeare. The Englishman looked back to his electric best as he terrorised the ageing Everton backline and secured his team all three points. Puel elected to play winger Riyad Mahrez just in the number ten role, which worked a treat. The Algerian’s close control and eye for a goal was clear to see as he and Vardy linked up well.

Vardy and Mahrez have linked up well since the Algerian moved behind the striker Photo Credit: skysports.com

With Stoke’s failing to pull up any trees at home, Leicester will see this as a perfect opportunity for back to back away wins in the Premier League. It would also secure their third win on the bounce, which has shot them away from danger. It would also leave the Foxes’ unbeaten in six league and cup games, with things already beginning to look rosier at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester have lost only one of their last six games against Stoke but haven’t won at the Potters since 2014. Stoke have lost three of those matches, with two ending in a stalemate. Three of the last four games at Stoke have ended as a draw, with the last two meetings both ending 2-2. With both sides vulnerable defensively, I can see goals in this game as well.

Although Stoke got a great win last time out, I don’t think they’ll have enough to take all three points here, with Leicester in good form. My bet would be for Vardy to get himself on the scoresheet again, with the Englishman having recorded six goals in 12 appearances this campaign.

Lyon vs Everton - Europa League Preview

Lyon vs Everton – Europa League Preview – David Unsworth will be looking for his first win in temporary charge of Everton as they face Lyon.

The Toffees currently sit bottom of Group E and know a defeat could see them knocked out of the competition. Whilst going out of Europe is hardly ideal, Everton’s main worry is staying in the Premier League. Following the sacking of Ronald Koeman last week, Unsworth’s team were dismantled at the King Power Stadium by Leicester. That result leaves them 18th and in the relegation zone. Having won just two games this season, Everton have massively underperformed. The money invested in the summer hasn’t paid off and they appear to have gone backwards.

Speculation has mounted this week about who will be the next man in charge at Goodison Park. Many fans and bookmakers have pointed to Sean Dyche as Koeman’s replacement. Whilst there hasn’t been an approach from the club for Dyche, Burnley’s win on Monday night will only have raised their interest further. The Clarets are currently sat in seventh place with double the points haul of Everton after just ten games. Another name in the ring is Sam Allardyce. The former England manager has been out of work since leaving Crystal Palace in the summer but could be tempted back into management with a lucrative transfer war-chest on Merseyside.

Everton must perform or else be knocked out of the competition Photo Credit: skysports.com

In Ligue 1, Lyon are currently third, seven points behind leaders PSG. The club have performed well both domestically and in Europe and know a win could take them top of the group. If the French side and Atlanta were both to win then it would knock Everton out after just four games. Lyon will be hoping to secure another win, following their 2-1 reverse at Goodison last month. With in-form players such as Nabil Fekir, it’s no surprise they are doing well. The Frenchman has ten goals this season, with five goals coming in his last three games. He also grabbed the opener when these two met last time.

With Everton in disarray, it is important they produce a performance on Thursday, even if they don’t get a result. The fans need to see signs of recovery and a positive display in France could be the catalyst to reignite their season. Lyon are unbeaten at home all season and given this, I think it’ll be incredibly difficult for Everton to grab a win given their current form. I think Lyon’s class will win them the game but it’s more about how Everton react than the result itself.

Prediction: Lyon 2-1 Everton

Spurs vs Real Madrid - Champions League Preview

Spurs vs Real Madrid – Champions League Preview – Spurs host the current Champions League holders Real Madrid this Wednesday in Group H.

Both sides are sharing the same amount of points, goals scored and goals conceded thus far in the group stage. The last time these two met a few weeks ago they couldn’t be divided as the score at the Bernabau was 1-1. An own goal by Raphael Varane was cancelled out just before half-time thanks to a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Both sides are without some key players with the hosts missing Erik Lamela and Victor Wanyama whilst the visitors are still without ex-Spurs winger Gareth Bale, Dani Carvajal, Mateo Kovacic and Keylor Navas. The last day has seen a huge boost for Mauricio Pochettino as Harry Kane has returned to training, it is still unknown whether he is fit enough to play.

Son could replace Kane if the England striker does not recover from injury in time Photo Credit: skysports.com

Spurs have had their worst week in quite a while suffering back to back losses. Firstly, they threw away a 2-0 lead against West Ham in the Carabao Cup and most recently lost to Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford. Spurs created enough chances to at least grab a point, but it was clear that Kane was sorely missed up front. They created 13 chances which is a promising sign heading into Wednesday’s fixture.

A victory over Real Madrid would see them lead Group H with just two matches to go in Group H. Although a victory would be huge for the club and fans, Madrid are one of the strongest, if not the strongest side in Europe and pose a huge threat to Tottenham, so to even draw the match would still be an achievement for the North Londoners. Can Spurs turn their recent fortunes around?

Skybet Match Result – Tottenham to Win – 2/1

Real Madrid haven’t quite been clicking as of late in comparison to the Real Madrid of last season. They are currently eight points behind league leaders Barcelona in La Liga and most recently lost to Girona 2-1 despite taking the lead. With things not going their way domestically, Zinedine Zidane will put all his efforts into the Champions League to ensure a successful European campaign.

Asensio can muster up magical moments at any time for Madrid Photo Credit: skysports.com

Tottenham will be a tough nut to crack for the Spaniards, however their class on paper stands them in good stead to leave Wembley Stadium will some points. Cristiano Ronaldo will be the dangerman as always for Madrid, however he is accompanied by Karim Benzema, Isco, Luka Modric and Marco Asensio who are all world class players. Can Madrid grab a victory?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Real to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 3/1

Man Utd vs Benfica - Champions League Preview

Man Utd vs Benfica – Champions League Preview – Manchester United can qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League with two games to spare against an out-of-sorts Benfica on Tuesday night.

If Jose Mourinho’s side better CSKA Moscow’s result against FC Basel in matchday four – A United win and CSKA failing to win or a United draw and CSKA losing – then passage through Group A into the next phase of the competition will be guaranteed.

The Red Devils have a perfect record in the Champions League this season, with 3-0, 4-1 and 1-0 wins over Basel, CSKA and Benfica respectively in the first half of the fixtures.

Conversely, Benfica – who were heavily fancied to also get out of this group – have surprisingly lost every game so far, including a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of Basel in Switzerland.

United and Mourinho had been slated in the media for their own recent shocking defeat to Premier League new-boys Huddersfield Town, but a solid 1-0 victory over title rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday has put the 20-time English champions back on course.

Anything other than a Manchester United victory would be a surprise. Currently, United are on a massive 19-game unbeaten streak at Old Trafford in European competition (15 wins and four draws), stretching back to a defeat against Real Madrid in March 2013

Additionally, Benfica have only ever beaten The Red Devils once in the ten times the sides have met (2005/06 Champions’ League group stage) – with United never failing to score against the Portuguese outfit in those fixtures.

Jonas can be a threat to the Utd defence Photo Credit: skysports.com

Benfica are in a desperate scramble to survive elimination at this point, as no team in Champions League history (since the inception of the current format in 2003/04) has ever lost their opening three fixtures and qualified from the group.

This game does not look like the type to defy statistics, and United would expect to manoeuvre the obstacle of under-pressure manager Rui Vitoria’s team with limited difficulty.

In fact, after a slightly sluggish period, this could be just the game to reignite the momentum which saw Mourinho’s side favoured by so many to challenge Pep Guardiola’s outstanding Manchester City right until the death this season.

Team News

There are no new injury concerns for Manchester United, albeit with long-term absentees Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic still out. For Benfica, Luisao and Andre Almedia are ruled out through suspension and Jardel is unavailable through injury.

Burnley vs Newcastle United - Match Preview

Burnley vs Newcastle United – Match Preview – Burnley will be looking to secure a first home win since early September when they face Newcastle United. A win for either side could catapult them up to sixth place in the league table.

Dyche has been a man in the media this week, with several outlets linking him with the vacant managerial role at Everton. Such attention is a testament to the job he has done at Burnley, solidifying a team with a far inferior budget to most of their rivals. Many would like to see Dyche progress to a bigger club as a reward for his hard work. With the lack of British coaches that occupy England’s finest jobs, it would certainly be a statement from the board at Goodison Park.

Burnley will be hoping to improve their home record this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

After failing to secure an away win until the 29th April last season, Burnley haven’t struggled on the road this year. In fact, it’s been at Turf Moor where they’ve dropped points. The Clarets home has been a fortress in recent years, so it comes as a surprise that they’ve only won there once this season. Burnley’s impressive form this season has been built on a defensive solidarity and clean sheets, with the Clarets conceding more than one goal just three times in the league.

Lascelles has shown his leadership skills for Newcastle this season Photo Credit: skysports.com

Newcastle have lost just one of their last seven games and have learnt how to pick up points on the road. Rafa Benitez’s side have lost just twice away from home this season and picked up an impressive point at Southampton in their last away game. During this run of form, the Toon Army have conceded just five goals and have picked up three clean-sheets. This has been largely down to the improved form of Jamaal Lascelles. The club Captain has risen to the challenge of becoming a Premier League defender after an impressive Championship campaign last season. Not only is Lascelles contributing at the back, he’s also a huge danger from set plays as well.

These two last met in the 14/15 season, where both games ended as a draw. Before those two games, you’d have to go back to 1983 for the last time these two met. This only further underlines the job that Dyche has done at Burnley by propelling them into England’s top division.

Whilst both teams have been good of late, I think Burnley can snatch the win here. If this ended as a draw, I wouldn’t be surprised but I’m going to hedge my bets with a home victory. A safe bet would be under 2.5 match goals, with both sides defensively solid.

Brighton vs Southampton - Match Preview

Brighton vs Southampton – Match Preview – Brighton and Hove Albion host Southampton this Sunday in Premier League action. Both sides are sitting comfortably midtable with Southampton two places ahead in 10th with one more point than their opponents.

Brighton most recently dispatched of West Ham 3-0 away from home with Glenn Murray stealing the headlines with a brace. Jose Izquierdo scored the other right on the stroke of half time in what was a good afternoon for Chris Hughton and his side.

Murray scored a brace against West Ham in their last game Photo Credit: skysports.com

In their previous outing, Southampton ran out 1-0 victors over West Brom thanks to an 85th minute goal from Sofiane Boufal. Southampton dominated the match, as they often do, but still struggled to find that clinical edge they require. The Saints have scored 8 goals in 9 matches so far, however in many of those matches they have had 15 or more attempts on goal.

Brighton have held their own since arriving in the Premier League, much thanks to Chris Hughton’s defensive tactics and their never say die attitude. They haven’t lost by more than a two-goal margin all season so far, meaning they are always still able to pull something out of the bag. They are likely to line up in a classic 4-4-2 formation that saw them get success away at West Ham. They often run a very rigid backline and their midfielders are often defensively minded first. Winger Anthony Knockhaert has won over the hearts of the Brighton fans not just for his attacking prowess but for his work rate. Can he help his side to victory?

Skybet Correct Score Group Betting – Brighton to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 11/4

Boufal has the creativity to break down the Brighton defence Photo Credit: skysports.com

Southampton have had a mediocre start to the season by their standards. Although they have won several matches, they have also drawn three matches against Swansea, Huddersfield and Newcastle who are all teams they would expect three points against. Brighton are of a similar level to those sides, so it is very possible that Southampton could have another poor day in front of goal as they so often do. Sofiane Boufal has really begun to come into his own after a shaky first season at St Mary’s. His pace on the counter has allowed Southampton to catch sides out this year, even if they haven’t taken full advantage just yet.

Skybet Match Result – Southampton to Win – 7/5

Man Utd vs Tottenham Hotspur - Match Preview

Man Utd vs Tottenham Hotspur – Match Preview – Manchester United host Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League action this Saturday.

Both sides are occupying second and third spot in the league standings and are sharing an equal points tally, with only Manchester United’s superior goal difference the resulting factor.

Key players are still unavailable for this big clash with Jose Mourinho having to deal with Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Marcos Rojo, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick all still sidelined and obviously Zlatan Ibrahimovic still partaking in his lengthy recovery. Huge disappointment for Pochettino as Harry Kane will be ruled out at Old Trafford due to a minor hamstring injury. Fernando Llorente or Heung Min Son could replace the England striker. Both Eric Lamela and Victor Wanyama are still unavailable for Mauricio Pochettino.

Rashford will cause the Spurs wing backs problems at Old Trafford Photo Credit: skysports.com

The hosts recovered from their out of character 2-1 loss to Huddersfield last weekend with a routine 2-0 victory over Swansea City midweek in the Carabao Cup. Two goals from Jesse Lingard booked the Red Devil’s spot in the next round, however they weren’t given much competition from a depleted and low on confidence Swansea side.

Tottenham had their first major disappointment of the season as they came crashing out of the Carabao Cup in dramatic fashion midweek. Leading 2-0 at half time was clearly not as safe as many thought as West Ham staged a remarkable second half comeback that left Spurs red in the face. Spurs haven’t lost twice in a row for over 7 months, can they hold that record?

Llorente is likely to replace Kane upfront Photo Credit: skysports.com

Manchester United’s pace in attack has left many defences for dead this season, however the Spurs defence is a rigid one. There is no doubt that the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial can cause Spurs issues but games like this often require moments of magic from your key players. The big Belgian striker has enjoyed a fruitful start to his career at Old Trafford with seven league goals and two assists thus far. Can he spur his side on to victory?

Skybet Correct Score Betting – Man Utd to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 15/8

Tottenham enjoy to dominate possession in most of their matches and exploit the flanks to allow maximum service to the forwards. United will make it not only tough for them to come down the wings but to have the ball at all. Both sides enjoy possession football, however Spurs have players like Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen that can keep the ball glued to their foot when needs be. With Fernando Llorente likely to step in for Kane, expect runners coming off the Spanish striker.

Skybet Match Result – Spurs to Win – 13/5

Leeds United vs Sheffield United - Match Preview

Leeds United vs Sheffield United – Match Preview – Fourth play third on Friday as Leeds host Sheffield United in an all Yorkshire affair.

Leeds got back to winning ways last time out with a resounding 3-0 win against fellow play-off side Bristol City. Before that win, Thomas Christiansen’s men had won just one of their last five games losing four. Despite that wobble, Leeds still sit in fourth place, which underlines their promising start they’ve had to this season.

At home, Leeds have lost only once this season. That was last time out against Reading but previous to that game, they had won their last three. Leeds home form has been built on an ability to keep clean sheets. They’ve conceded just three goals at home so far this season and have shut out the opposition on four occasions.

Saiz has scored 8 goals in 13 appearances for Leeds Photo Credit: skysports.com

Leeds’s achilles heel has been their inability to come from behind in games. On each occasion they have gone behind in a game, they have lost. A worrying statistic for Thomas Christiansen which shows an inability to grind out results in the face of adversity.

Sheffield United are in dreamland. Following promotion from League One last season, United fans could have only dreamt of a start like this. The club are level on points with second-placed Cardiff and are just two points off Wolves who are top.

Whilst the Blades have exceeded expectation, all their defeats this season have come on the road. Chris Wilder’s side have won two of three of their six away games and have won three of their last four. Last time on the road they came unstuck at Nottingham Forest who came away with a 2-1 victory. The Blades’ winning run has been built around their solidity at the back. Only Cardiff have conceded fewer in the Championship, whilst United also have five clean sheets to their name.

Sharp will hope to star against his old club Photo Credit: skysports.com

Two players who could define the outcome on Friday are Samuel Saiz and Billy Sharp. Leeds’s number 21 has been a key figure since signing in the summer with eight goals in 13 appearances. For United, Sharp has continued to be an integral part of the side following his 30-goal haul last season. The former Leeds striker managed just five goals in his time at Elland Road but has already equalled that tally this season for the Blades.

This game will be a fiercely contested match, with little between the two sides. With Leeds’s impressive home form, I think they might just edge it.
