Chelsea vs Manchester City: Premier league Champions Manchester City face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, bidding to secure the first piece of silverware of the domestic season, two weeks after beating the Blues 6-0.
Pep Guardiola’s side were on the right side of that 6-0 mauling just a fortnight ago, which will still be fresh in the memory. The Citizens will be looking retain their title – if they were to do so, it would be the first time Manchester City have defended a trophy in the club’s history. Defending a trophy would be a huge statement for City, more so than actually winning the cup itself. Each time they have won the Premier League, they have faltered that following campaign. That’s a trait Guardiola is looking to eradicate, to make them a real powerhouse in English football. In midweek, City came from behind, with ten men, to beat Schalke in the Champions League. Raheem Sterling scored the winner in the 90th minute, the fifth time he’s scored past the 80th minute this season.
Chelsea were also successful in Europe this week, after beating Malmo FC 3-0. Callum Hudson-Odoi was on the scoresheet after starting the game. The big story of the week has been FIFA charging the club with 29 breaches of regulations in signing young players. That charge means Chelsea won’t be able to sign anyone for two transfer window. That ban looks set to be suspended until after this summer, due to their appeal, however, it has cast doubt on a number of key players’ future. Eden Hazard, CHO, David Luiz, amongst others, deals all expire in the next 12 months. That puts the club under serious pressure, with an under-fire manager at the helm. Maurizio Sarri has a huge task to keep his job but a much-improved performance against the champions would certainly help.

Manchester United vs Liverpool: the visitors will be hoping to move back to the top of the Premier League table when they travel to Manchester United in North-West derby.
The Reds travel to Old Trafford to play out their game in hand over rivals Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit level on points with Pep Guardiola’s men but their goal difference is ten goals inferior. A win would move them three points clear at the summit, against their greatest rivals. Liverpool drew 0-0 with PSG in midweek, in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout tie. Virgil van Dijk was suspended for that game but will return to the Reds’ defence on Sunday. Klopp’s side beat United 3-1 back December, a game which ended Jose Mourinho’s reign as boss. Now the two clubs enter this game in very different positions, although Liverpool are still firm favourites. Sadio Mane opened the scoring against the Bournemouth, in their last league outing, which is his fourth goal in as many games. The Malian international could be a bet for first goalscorer.
Manchester United head into this fixture in a totally different mindset to that in December. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side impressed once again on Monday night as they won 2-0 against Chelsea. The Norwegian has now overseen wins at Stamford Bridge, Wembley and the Emirates Stadium. The last time United won at all three of those clubs for over thirty years, which underlines how well he has done. Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial’s absence will be felt but Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku both had strong games on Monday night. The Belgian is yet to score against Liverpool in his United career, however.

Burnley vs Tottenham Hotspur: Tottenham will be looking to close the gap on the top two when they visit relegation-threatened Burnley in the Saturday lunch-time game.
Spurs enjoyed a refreshing ten-day break after beating Borussia Dortmund 3-0 last Wednesday. Tottenham produced one of their best performances of the season against their German counterparts, despite being without several key men. Harry Kane is now back in training having missed the last seven games, although this game will probably come too soon for him. Spurs face Chelsea, Arsenal and Dortmund in the space of a week after this fixture. A run of games that will define their season. Therefore, they’ll want to go into that game in the best possible shape – with three points on Saturday.
Burnley’s recent upturn in form has seen them pull away from relegation danger. Sean Dyche’s side are still amongst the thick of things but are now 15th, three points clear of danger. Their 3-1 win over Brighton last time out was one of their best performance this season. Chris Wood grabbed a brace in that game, the striker’s third in as many games. Burnley are unbeaten in their last three home games, winning two of them. Saturday’s match against Tottenham will be a tough test for the Clarets, but given their recent form, they’ll feel capable of getting something from the game.

Derby County vs Millwall: Derby County will be looking to refocus their attention on the Championship and move back into the top six with a win over struggling Millwall.
The Rams were knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend as they went down 2-0 to Brighton and Hove Albion. That result allows Frank Lampard’s side to focus on their dwindling promotion campaign. Derby sit seventh in the table, two points behind sixth-placed Bristol City. If they were to win on Wednesday night it would take them level on points with Middlesbrough, with the same numbers of games played. It’s that home from that has been the bedrock of their promotion push – they’ve only lost twice on their own patch this season. Millwall were also in FA Cup action and sealed a place in the last eight thanks to a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon. The Lions will take on Brighton for a place in the semi-final. In the league, Millwall are just two points above the relegation zone. Neil Harris’ side have, however, played two games less than Reading and Rotherham, who are directly below them. They have won just three of their last 16 games in the Championship, which is a major concern. On the road, they’re without a win since January 1st, which was their only away win this season, away at Ipswich. That puts them fourth bottom in the away table, having taken just seven points from 15 games.

Liverpool vs Bayern: Liverpool will be hoping to take make the most of home advantage when they host Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knock-out tie.
The Reds weren’t in action this weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round. That timely break has set Jurgen Klopp’s men up nicely for this meeting on Tuesday night. Last time out, the Reds comfortably dispatched of Bournemouth 3-0. Gini Wijnaldum was back in the side, and on the score sheet, after missing the previous two games. The Dutch midfielder has been Jurgen Klopp’s most consistent selection in the heart of midfield this season. Wijnaldum has established himself as a core member in this Reds side and his energy will be vital against the German champions. Sadio Mane opened the scoring against the Cherries, which is his fourth goal in as many games. The Malian international is hitting a hot streak of form at just the right time.
Bayern Munich recovered from twice going behind as they Augsburg 3-2 on Friday night. Niko Kovac’s side were far from convincing and needed the hot Kingsley Coman to rescue them as he bagged a brace. The French international limped off with an injury in that game but has been given the all-clear to travel to England. Bayern sit two points behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund but having played a game extra. After six straight league title, it would be a massive underachievement if they were to miss out on the Bundesliga this year. That has cranked up the pressure even further on Kovac, ahead of this tie.
Gianluca Rocchi is the referee for this game. The Italian official plies his trade in Serie A and has averaged 4.89 cards across nine matches this season. Therefore, I would recommend a maximum of 60+ total booking points for this fixture.
Liverpool’s speed and fluidity could cause Bayern major issues on the counter-attack. The Reds’ form makes them favourites for this game, in my eyes. As a result, I’m going for a home win.
