Ostersunds vs Arsenal
Thursday 15th February
Europa League, Round of 32 -1st Leg

Jamkraft Arena, BT Sport 3 – 6:00pm

Ostersunds vs Arsenal – Arsenal seek Europa League glory to salvage their season and a trip to Sweden against Ostersunds in the Last-32 is the first obstacle in doing so.

After a crushing defeat to bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the North-London derby, Arsenal’s top-four hopes hang in the balance. Wenger’s side are in 6th place, now seven points away from Spurs and eight adrift of Chelsea in the Champions League places.

Winning the Europa League remains the most realistic chance of qualifying for Europe’s elite competition next season, and after defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup it is expected Wenger will play a full-strength side to do so.

Ostersunds are currently enjoying the best period of their existence. Established in 1996, Englishman Graham Potter has led the Swedish outfit from the fourth tier in 2011 (averaging attendances of 783) to the top division in just half a decade.

A fantastic victory in the Svenska Cupen (Sweden’s primary cup competition) signified the magnificent rise of the club, but perhaps even more excitingly has taken them on a European adventure for the first time in their history.

Finishing 2nd in a group that also contained Athletic Bilbao, Hertha BSC and Zorya Luhansk continues the fairy-tale and has rewarded the club with their greatest-ever fixture – a clash with English giants Arsenal.

When looking for clean sheets the blatant choice here would be to go for Arsenal, they have kept nine this season – only the top five and Burnley have more. The fact they are overwhelming favourites is another matter. Being prone to a defensive mishap it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to see Ostersunds on the scoresheet, however. It would probably take a miracle for Potter’s side to deny Arsenal the away goal for 90 minutes though.

David Fernandez Borbalan has been named in charge of this one, the Spaniard has been very active in La Liga this term – giving out 62 yellow cards in his 12 matches. This places him 7th from 20 in Spain’s top tier for average cards per match at a rate of 5.64. Arsenal are yet to receive a red card in the Premier League this year and have picked up a middling 42 yellows, so shouldn’t offer too much in terms of headaches for the referee.

With the Swedish league not starting until April, Ostersunds may not be up to speed in dealing with an Arsenal side deep in the midst of a multi-faceted season.

But, maybe that means the underdogs have had longer to prepare and focus their energy on what would be the most remarkable of giant-killings. There’s only one way to find out.

Prediction – Ostersunds 1-3 Arsenal

Realistically, Arsenal should be far too strong for the Swedish counterparts and easily push them aside.

Ostersunds vs Arsenal will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport from 6PM GMT.

FC Porto vs Liverpool FC - Match Preview - Wednesday 14 February, Champions League 2 Round

FC Porto vs Liverpool
Wednesday 14th February
Champions League – 2nd round – 1st leg

BT Sport – 7:45pm

FC Porto vs Liverpool – Liverpool resume their European dream as they take a trip to Portugal where face Porto in the first leg of their Champions League tie.

After successfully winning their group last year, Jurgen Klopp’s men were pitted against one of Portugal’s finest clubs. The Reds had a fantastic weekend; making Manchester United pay for their defeat to Newcastle with a 2-0 victory at Southampton. That win means they’re just two points off United who occupy second. The result also moves them four points clear of Chelsea in fifth, ahead of their Monday night tie with West Brom.

With just one league defeat in their last 18 games, Liverpool appear to be building a strong domestic push. The real test will come in Europe; will we see the exhilarating football played against Manchester City or the woeful defending in their defeat to Swansea? One thing is clear, the stakes are much higher. Unlike most January additions, Klopp has the added bonus of using Virgil van Dijk in the competition.

This is a tie the Reds should get through and the nature of their high pressing, free-flowing football could just take them to another European title. Given that on their day Liverpool can beat just about anyone, favourable draws could see them make a real mark on the biggest stage. The form of Mohamad Salah and Roberto Firmino has been impossible to ignore and coupled with the pace and power of Sadio Mane, they will give any defence in Europe a run for their money.

Porto find themselves top of the Premeira Liga standings, two points ahead of Benfica. Unbeaten in the league, the Dragoes have amassed an impressive 55 points from their 21 games this season. Porto have won their last three games in all competitions, including the semi-final of the Taca de Portugal as they seek domestic glory. The dynamic duo of Moussa Marega and Vincent Aboubakar pose Liverpool the biggest problems, with the pair netting a combined 31 league goals so far this season.

Liverpool have never lost to Porto and have drawn both their only two visits to the Estadio do Gragao. At Anfield, they have won both their games, with their last meeting ending 4-1 back in 2007.

Daniele Orsato has been appointed as the referee for this match. The Italian official, who plies his trade in Serie A, has an average of 4.1 cards per match this season. These 40 yellow cards and one red card across ten matches this campaign.

With Liverpool playing the first leg of this tie away from home, I think getting an away goal could be crucial. Given their good form of late, I think they’ll get a draw, which would set them up nicely to finish the job at Anfield. Porto are by no means a bad side and will run the Reds close, so don’t be surprised to see the Portuguese giants edge this contest.

FC Porto vs Liverpool will be televised in the UK on BT Sport.

Prediction: Porto 1-1 Liverpool.

Real Madrid vs PSG - Match Preview - Wednesday 14 February, Champions League 2 Round

Real Madrid vs PSG
Wednesday 14th February, Bernabeu
Champions League – 2nd Round – 1st Leg

BT Sport 3 –  7:45 pm

Real Madrid vs PSG – Defending Champions Real Madrid take on PSG at the Bernabeu in the first-leg of their Champions League knockout tie.

After a disappointing domestic season, Madrid will be looking to restore their reputation in Europe. Sat in fourth, the reigning league champions sit 17 points behind Barcelona. With the league title long gone, their main focus has to be trying to catch second-placed Atletico Madrid, who are currently ten points ahead of them.

Despite struggling for most of this term, Zinedine Zidane’s sides’ form has improved recently, with four wins in their last six matches. With 12 goals in their last two home games, it isn’t goals that will dictate Madrid’s future in this competition. With Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos both struggling with injuries, Los Blancos have conceded 23 goals in 22 games. Whilst this doesn’t seem a bad return, it is three more goals than Barcelona and Atletico combined.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s league form has been under much scrutiny this season. The Portuguese forward has 11 goals this season from 18 games; a much lower return than previous seasons. In the Champions League, however, the former Manchester United forward has been in scintillating form. With nine goals from six games, Ronaldo has etched his name into Champions League history again this season. No player had previously scored in every group stages game before the five-time Ballon d’Or broke the record back in December last year.

Many will feel that PSG come into this game as favourites, despite facing the reigning Champions. Unai Emery’s side topped their group, collecting 15 points and beating Bayern Munich in the process. Having assembled one of the most expensive forward lines in history, it is little surprise to see Les Parisiens top of the goalscoring charts. With Edinson Cavani now joined by Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in attack, there is no defence in the world that wouldn’t be nervous about facing this potent trio. With 69 goals between the three in all competitions, PSG look like serious contenders for this competition and could make a real statement by toppling the reigning Champions on their own turf.

Gianluca Rocchi has been appointed as the referee for this crucial clash. The Italian has officiated ten games in Serie A this season, with an average of 4.9 cards per match. He has shown 46 yellow cards and two red cards this season, so booking points could be a good bet to go with.

With the amount of attacking talent on display on Wednesday night, it’s impossible to not predict goals. I think, despite their poor domestic form, Real Madrid will come out on top. Whilst PSG have been very impressive this season, the biggest players show their true ability in the biggest moments and I think Madrid will secure a crucial victory.

Real Madrid vs PSG will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 3, with kick off at 19:45 GMT.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 PSG.

Suggested tips (BET365):

  • Correct score, Madrid to win 2-1 – (link no longer available)

FC Basel vs Manchester City, Tuesday 13th February, St Jakob-Park, Champions League - 2nd Round - 1st Leg

FC Basel vs Manchester City
Tuesday 13th February, St Jakob-Park
Champions League – 2nd Round – 1st Leg

BT Sport 3  7:45 pm

FC Basel vs Manchester City – Manchester City travel to Basel in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.

The Swiss side will be hoping that home advantage will be a key factor as they will look to build on their 2-0 victory over Thun in the Swiss Super League.

The gulf in class between these two clubs is rather transparent, with Man City being heavy favourites to advance to the quarter finals.

Pep Guardiola’s influence on Man City has been clear, with his Citizens having scored two or more goals in 80% of their Premier League matches. Their incredible attacking power makes them one of the favourites to go on to win the Champions League. However, they will be without winger Leroy Sane as he is still recovering from an injury he picked up in their FA Cup tie with Cardiff City.  The English outfit will also be without Gabriel Jesus who is also on the mend and of due to return in the coming weeks.

Despite their injury problems, the City frontline has shown no signs of turning the heat down, with Sergio Aguero netting four goals in the second half of their 5-1 victory over Leicester City on the weekend. The Argentine has now scored 21 Premier League goals this season, with many being set up by midfielder Kevin De Bruyne who has stolen the plaudits this year and will also be a key man for Basel to keep quiet. Their attacking prowess has led to them being awarded an average of 7.5 corners this season in the Premier League. The likelihood of them getting in behind the Basel defence and peppering Tomas Vaclik’s goal is very high, expect corners.

With many players to fear on Tuesday night, Raphael Wicky will be hoping his key men such as Swiss Born striker Albien Ajeti who is the clubs leading scorer in domestic competitions. Chances will come few and thin for the hosts, however their league form would suggest they could cause an upset as they have scored 41 goals in 21 games. Neither will they be a push over for the visitors, having illustrated their defensive solidarity during their league campaign only conceding 17 goals; the lowest tally in the league.

The referee for this encounter is the Swedish, Jonas Eriksson. The visitors will have to be careful, a trait they haven’t always illustrated well this season having picked up a total of 45 cards in the Premier League.

Man City’s Raheem Sterling and Basel’s Dimitri Oberlin have both scored four goals in this UEFA Champions League campaign as both sides have played free flowing attacking football that has said the hosts finish second in their group with 12 points. City topped their group with 15 points.

FC Basel vs Manchester City will be televised live on BT Sport 3 in the UK from 7:45PM.

Juventus vs Tottenham Hotspur - UEFA Champions League - Tuesday 13 February 2018.

Juventus vs Tottenham Hotspur
Tuesday 13th February, Allianz Stadium
Champions League – 2nd Round – 1st Leg

BT Sport 1 7:45 pm

Juventus vs Tottenham Hotspur – The Champions League knockout stages commence with a tantalising match between Seria A Champions Juventus and Premier League runners-up Tottenham Hotspur.

The last-16 has already began to pit the elite European sides against one another, Spurs won all but one game in Group H – containing double reigning Champions League Winners Real Madrid and German giants Borussia Dortmund – while The Old Lady gained qualification by coming 2nd in Group D behind Barcelona.

There is no question that Mauricio Pochettino is building a fantastic team at Spurs, but the dark cloud of ‘no trophies’ forever lingers ominously over the North-London side and their Argentinian manager.

86 points and finishing 2nd in the league last year signified huge progress but to really stamp a mark on Europe Spurs need either a trophy (the FA Cup is the most realistic opportunity to do so) or a run deep into the Champions League against the very best teams around – which this season seems to be the case so far.

A first-ever competitive meeting with Juventus is arguably the most difficult draw Spurs could have faced, Massimiliano Allegri’s side have made two of the last three Champions League finals and have won the Italian league on no less than the last six occasions.

And whilst a wonderful Napoli side have taken the league by storm this season, Juventus are still just one point behind – on a current unbeaten streak of 11 matches, winning the last eight and remarkably only conceding one goal in their last 16 fixtures.

Spurs have been in brilliant form themselves, riding the crest of a wave after thrashing both Manchester United and North-London rivals Arsenal and earning a dramatic point at Anfield couple of weeks.

All of this perfectly tees up a night of delightful football in Turin between not only two of the best sides in the continent, playing some of the most attractive football, but also under two of the most promising managers in the game right now. What a prospect.

This clash sees two of Europe’s best defences go head to head. Renowned for their defensive prowess, Juventus have an incredible record this season, keeping clean sheets in 14 of their 23 league fixtures so far (a league-leading total). Spurs have earned 11 shutouts in the Premier League – only behind Chelsea and both Manchester clubs.

As both sides also have imperious attack forces, a clean sheet for either team would be hard-earned but at their best both are more than capable of restricting the opposition. Harry Kane and Gonzalo Higuain, in particular, are constant threats to defences.

Felix Brych will be in charge of the game, the German referee has been one of the Bundesliga’s most active referees this season, giving out an average of 3.6 cards per game – including two red cards in the ten games he has officiated.

However, if league matches are anything to go by then Brych will be not made to work too hard, the 32 yellow cards Spurs have accumulated is lowest in the Premier League whilst also picking up two reds so have only amassed 14.2 average booking points per match. Juventus rank 17th in Seria A for average booking points per game with 16.7 with 36 yellows and one red card.

The sensible option for corners would steer towards Spurs, Pochettino’s side have received 170 this year (2nd only to Manchester City in the Premier League) whilst Juventus have surprisingly only received 112, ranking them as low down as 11th in Seria A.

Juventus vs Tottenham Hotspur will be televised in the UK on BT Sport from 7:45 PM GMT.

Prediction – Juventus 1-1 Spurs

FA Premier League, Chelsea vs West Brom, Monday 12 February 2018.

Chelsea vs West Brom
Monday 12th February, Stamford Bridge
FA Premier League

Sky Sports 8pm.

Chelsea vs West Brom – After back to back defeats Chelsea will be hoping to return to winning ways against West Brom as the race for the top four heats up.

After dropping six points against lower placed opposition, the pressure has cranked up on Antonio Conte. With many already speculation the former Juventus boss will leave at the end of the season, now was not the right time for his team to have a mid-season wobble. With a crucial Champions League tie against Barcelona to come, Conte’s men are in exactly the wrong form to face the former European Champions.

Their 4-1 defeat against Watford was extremely worrying as the Champions shipped three goals in just seven minutes. The Hornets were by far the better team across the 90 minutes, even before Tiemoue Bakayoko’s first-half red card. A run of just two wins in ten games has seen the Champions fall to fourth in the league and they now sit just one point above fifth-placed Tottenham.

Conte needs to try and re-create the atmosphere that saw them run away with the league last year in a bid to try and secure a minimum of a top-four place. With the FA Cup and Champions League still on offer, Chelsea’s season is far from over. With two lots of silverware still available, an upturn in form is critical before they fall behind in the top four race.

West Brom need wins; it’s as simple as that. Despite a recent upturn in performances, they still sit 20th, four points adrift at the bottom of the league. With Swansea and Stoke’s recent upturn in results, it has piled more pressure on the Baggies, who have won just one Premier League game since August.

The loan signing of Daniel Sturridge should help their cause, with goas in short supply for Alan Pardew’s men. With the World Cup coming up, Sturridge needs a strong second half of the season to have any hopes of forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s 23 man squad. With Kane, Vardy and Rashford all guaranteed a spot there could be room for one more striker and if Sturridge can re-discover his form from previous years he could find himself on the plane.

Chelsea have won four of their last five games against the Baggies. They haven’t lost at home since 1983, a record stretching nearly 35 years. Lee Mason has been appointed as the referee for Monday night’s clash. In his 12 games in charge, Mason has produced 27 yellow cars, averaging at 2.2 per game. Having shown two three red cards, in addition, this campaign, his average booking points total stands at 25.8, which is one of the lowest amongst the officials.

After a run of four games without defeat, back to back losses have left West Brom in the mire. Draws are no longer good enough, they need results and they need them quick I struggle to see them getting anything from this one. Although Chelsea have been poor, I can see Conte going back to what he knows best and getting a huge win.

Chelsea vs West Brom will be shown live on Sky Sports at 8PM tonight in the UK.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 West Brom.

Suggested tips (BET365):

  • Correct score, Chelsea to win 2-0 – (link no longer available).
  • Chelsea to win to nil – (link no longer available).

Suggested tips (SKYBET):

  • Hazard to score and Chelsea to win – 5/4.
  • Giroud to score first and Chelsea to win 3-1 – 22/1.
  • Willian and Sturridge to both score – 10/1.
  • Over 2.5 goals and Chelsea to win – 10/11.

The UEFA Champions League starts back this week – don’t forget to check out our tips and previews area. We will have match previews for both Spurs and Liverpool games this week as well as Arsenal’s Europa cup game.

Southampton vs Liverpool, Match Betting Preview, Sunday 11th February 2018.

This Sunday afternoon will be a day jam-packed with Premier League action, Southampton vs Liverpool being one from the St Mary’s Stadium.

Both sides seasons so far have seen very different outcomes thus far. The hosts are struggling in the lower end of the table, only two points above the relegation zone. Sundays visitors are flying high in third, however are checking their shoulders themselves as Chelsea and Tottenham are challenging Jurgen Klopp’s side for a Champions League place.

Southampton have enjoyed a decent run of form as of late, with their most recent outing seeing them in rather uncharacteristic scoring form. They defeated bottom of the table West Brom, 3-2 in an edge of your seat thriller. Charlie Austin has stepped up this season for the Saints, with 6 goals to his name. The Saints have scored only 28 goals all season and along with that, 26 points. Southampton often enjoy facing Liverpool, as it gives them an opportunity to get back at the club that just keeps buying their players; most recently, Virgil Van Dijk. Can the Saints pull off a huge win to reshape the bottom half?

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping Liverpool’s fortunes will turn following their thrilling conclusion against Spurs on the weekend that saw them drop two points very late on. His side are currently third in the Premier League, chasing Manchester United who are comfortably ahead of them for now. The game will also mark Virgil Van Dijk’s first return to St Mary’s Stadium after his prolonged transfer saga.

Liverpool are favourites and for good reason. Their attacking threat is frightening with Mo Salah stealing the headlines with 21 goals and six assist in 26 matches – outstanding for a winger. Whilst Liverpool’s attack is flourishing, their defensive mishaps don’t seem to be vanishing. With much of their fans frustration and dropped points coming from mistakes in their defensive third. Will their attacking prowess be too much for the Saints?

Southampton have only scored two or more goals in 23% of their Premier League outings this year, whereas Liverpool have scored two or more in 63% of theirs. The hosts have been awarded an average of 6.2 corners per match this season and the visitors, 6.1 corners. The referee for the match will be Martin Atkinson. Martin has awarded an average of 40 booking points in his 18 Premier League matches.

Prediction – Liverpool 3-1.

You’d be a brave better to think both teams won’t score, should be a goal-fest.

Newcastle vs Manchester United, St James Park, Sunday 11th February 2018. Match Betting Preview.

Another Super Sunday tie sees Newcastle vs Manchester United live in the early Sunday afternoon kick off.

The two teams are at different ends of the table, with the hosts checking their shoulder, only one point above the relegation zone. The visitors are second in the Premier League, 13 points behind league leaders and rivals Man City. The match will be the second of three Super Sunday fixtures.

Newcastle United are currently 16th in the Premier League, having accumulated 25 points from 26 games. Rafa Benitez was able to introduce some new faces late in the transfer window, with Chelsea loanee Kenedy getting the fans most excited. The Brazilian has impressed so far and could cause issues for the Manchester United midfield, that hasn’t set the world alight in recent weeks.

In their 26 matches, the Magpies have scored 24 goals with Spanish striker Joselu the most prolofic. He has scored four goals and got one assist this season, as Newcastle have found goals hard to come by for much of the season. It is possible they could scalp a result as Manchester United have found matches away from home against lower teams much tougher than they should.

Manchester United have accumulated 56 points in their 26 Premier League matches. They are the favourites for this fixture, having only lost one of their last ten games in all competitions. Their most recent Premier League outing saw Jose Mourinho’s side dismantle a Huddersfield side, 2-0, with new boy Alexis Sanchez opening his United account.

The attacking prowess of Manchester United at times can be deadly, with Romelu Lukaku proving his clinical edge with 12 goals and 5 assists. It shouldn’t be too tough for Mourinho’s side as long as they don’t experience any issues in front of goal, as many top sides have in recent weeks against relegation strugglers.

Newcastle have scored two or more goals in 23%  of their home Premier League matches this season. Manchester United have scored two or more in 53% of their away league fixtures. Newcastle have been awarded an average of 4.9 corners this season, Manchester United have been awarded an average of 6 corners.

Craig Pawson will take charge of this fixture. The referee has awarded an average of 42.9 booking points in his 17 Premier League matches. Newcastle vs Manchester United will be televised in the UK from

Prediction – Manchester United win 2-0.

With Alexis Sanchez having settled in, their attacking power seems just too much.
